I sure do love my new ice maker! Its compact but mighty! I orefer the smaller size that makes approximately 10 cubes at a time in around 7-8 minute intervals. The best part for me? They crush up easily when you bite them. Its like Sonic ice to me in comparison, only bigger. Be sure to fill up your cup pretty high for IMO best results. We let ours run for a day and fill up my dinosaur 1997 fridge and use the front dispenser for rapid delivery. However, if you do this be prepared to grab a kitchen tool to beak them up ahould they clump together. Its not a flaw in the machine itself.

This device is a clever piece of engineering! We bought this because our townhouse provides a refrigerator that's smaller and doesn't have an ice maker built-in. After fussing with ice cube trays (and needing more room in the freezer just to be safe during this pandemic) we opted to give this a try, thinking it might not be as advertised. We were proven wrong. Within 5-6 minutes, the first ice cubes are made and drop into a basket, which also doubles as a recycling of any melted ice cubes: the tray lifts out and reveals the basin in which you fill with water to make the ice. The cubes come in two sizes, and have holes in the center to help prevent any choking hazard. There's a fan on the side which can get noisy (think of a computer case fan) but the entire package fits well on a kitchen counter and has become one of our go-to gadgets. The only caveat, and not enough to remove a star from the rating, is that the ice will sometimes stick near where it comes out - there's a sensor which detects the tray as "full" but it's not. Just take the small scoop and push them down into the basket and another batch (or batches) will continue being made. I imagine this happens just because the ice is wet and gets stuck to other cubes easily, rather than any design or device flaw. And it's not that much of an inconvenience as you'll usually have more than enough ice made already.

This is great for a backup ice maker I’m in the fridge. For two people this works just fine and keeps up. Any higher demand for ice I would buy the next size up

Nice little counter top icemaker. Makes ice quickly. I hate my fridge ice. This ice tastes fresh and the two different options for size are nice.

Very nice Ice Maker, With nice features. Good Price, nice & quiet operation. Makes 2 size ice cubes. And this unit can make up to 26lbs in 24 hours. Solidly built, but nice to look at in appearance. Easy to add water, and easy to clean.

This unit produces ice quickly and uses very little water. With that being said, the ice melts rather quickly but if you want ice and don’t have an ice maker in your freezer, this will give you what you need! I saw many reviews around the internet about it producing quite a bit of noise but in my opinion it’s no more sound than what your regular fridge and freezer sound like. After the first use, I really forgot all about any sounds from it and I’m very sensitive to even the smallest of unwanted sounds. I do recommend storing the ice in a freezer bag so you can smack it on the counter because it does get melty pretty quick so when you do freeze the cubes, they stick together. Hope this helps someone make their decision.

Nice, compact ice maker for a kitchen counter. Makes ice fast but isn't insulated well so the ice melts soon. The melted ice goes back into the water tank so there isn't any waste. I would buy again.

Works well when new. Makes ice fast. The problem is that none of these last very long. The one i had prior to this one actually lasted 14 months. Expect about a year and make sure you purchase the geek squad protection.

Without a water hookup to the fridge, we didn’t have the ice maker connected. This small ice maker is perfect for making batches of ice when needed. It’s quick and makes very little noise. Definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a countertop ice maker

This fit perfectly on my counter and did not take up hardly any room at all. Production is fast and I did like the choice of 2 sizes fit the ice . Easy to clean , fill and very easy to set up and operate definitely worth the 5 stars I gave it.

    Makes Ice, But Has Trade-Offs

I picked up the Insignia Portable Ice Maker mostly for convenience, and while it does technically make ice as advertised, the experience has been pretty middle-of-the-road. It produces small batches of ice reliably enough, and the auto shut-off feature is useful so it doesn’t overflow the bin. For casual use (like making a few drinks throughout the day) it gets the job done. But over time, several drawbacks have kept it from feeling like a truly convenient or worthwhile appliance. The biggest issue is the slow output paired with the very small batch size. If you only need a handful of cubes here and there, it’s fine; but if you’re trying to keep up with multiple drinks or guests, you end up waiting around for the machine to cycle through more ice and it takes a while. The reservoir also runs out of water fairly quickly, which means you’ll be refilling it more often than you’d expect. If you forget to top it off, the machine simply stops running until you notice, which is the opposite of “hands-off” convenience. Another drawback is the noise. When the machine is actively making ice, there’s a noticeable humming and mechanical sound that can be distracting, especially in a smaller kitchen or open living area. It’s not unbearable, but definitely not something you’d want running overnight or during a quiet movie night. The ice itself is also on the smaller, softer side and sometimes comes out partially melted or inconsistent in shape. It works fine for basic drinks but doesn’t have the firmness or size you’d get from a standard freezer ice maker. Maintenance is another factor. Like most portable ice makers, this one requires regular cleaning to avoid odd tastes or mineral buildup. That’s fine in theory, but paired with the other limitations, it makes the overall experience feel more high-maintenance than it should be. It would be a lot better if it had a built-filter. Overall, the Insignia Portable Ice Maker isn’t awful; it works, and it does produce ice. But the slow production, frequent refilling, noise, and somewhat inconsistent ice quality make it feel more like an occasional-use gadget rather than a reliable everyday solution. If your needs are light and you don’t mind babysitting it a bit, it may be fine. For anything more than that, it’s just okay.

This does a much better job than I thought it would. The ice cubes are produced about every 6 minutes. They are smaller than a refrigerator ice maker. But, it makes plenty of ice in one day. The unit is quiet and doesn't take up a lot of room.

    Weird taste

It makes ice fast and easy but there's a weird factory taste to the ice, even after having it for about a month and cleaning it frequently. I have ran water through it to try to help get rid of the taste and I keep getting black floaties out of it. I recently cleaned it with vinegar and that has helped a bit so far. Hopefully after a few more uses it will finally go away.
