Works Well but Little Loud
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.The Insignia Portable Ice Maker makes nine “bullets” of ice every 8 minutes. We ran it for around 12 hours when we first got it and it filled my LG Refidgerator Ice bin which hold 25lbs of ice. I find I have to refill the bin once a week so let the machine run for 6 hours or so to do so. The way the machine works you have to be present to empty the bin and fill the water when it gets low. If you don't empty the bin it will stop making ice once it fills up and the ice it has made will begin to melt, if left alone like i do sometimes overnight the ice in the bin will melt and once it melts enough the machine will start making more. This process will continue till the bin is emptied. If the water gets too low in the tub the machine will stop making ice and alert that more water needs to be added. There are two sizes, big and small, however I hardly notice any difference between the two. I just leave it on big all the time. The machine is kind of loud, it scares my anxiety ridden dog badly. Measured using an iPhone one foot away from the running machine the sound level was 61.0 dB(A), 4 feet away from the running machine the sound level is 51.6 dB(A), and 4 feet from the shut off machine the sound level is 46.0 dB(A)… It is a little louder than my LG dishwasher which was surprising to me. Would buy again.

The GE Opal ice maker is nice and makes ice just like what you get at Chick-Fil-A, but it's also really expensive. So, I have been looking at other options. This was on sale for $50, so I gave it a shot. I have to say, I love it. If you love chewy ice, I recommend actually making this about 3 to 4 hours before you actually want ice. The best thing I have found is to let the ice sit for a while, it becomes perfect to chew on. Don't get me wrong, it's still nice when it first drops, but letting it sit for a while makes it perfect.

I want people to be able to easily have ice for cocktails without leaving the bar. I have to tell you I am really thrilled with the performance of the solar unit. It's easy to set up, and it really cranks out ice! When they say 9 pounds a day that is no lie. It's absolutely perfect and definitely the best price I've seen for some of this quality.
