Over time they do wear out to where the grooves and indentations on the top of the thumbsticks wear out and become flat/plain. That's when I usually go from small, to medium, medium to big. But you get a few months out of each if you play regularly on First Person Shooters.

And the interchangeable pads, give an upgrade to the gaming experience. I would highly recommend this product.
