Burned out straightener

After a few days in Scotland, my hair straightener quit working. I believe this item caused it to overheat and burn out. The part of the straightener where I held it became extremely hot, so hot that it was difficult and uncomfortable to hold. My straightener had never done that before.

I initially checked into a B+B and plugged it in. It worked, then it popped a breaker and the converter no longer worked. I had to buy non electrical products to use instead
