Does Not work with Nintendo Switch

I didn't knock this item in the overall rating because I never found out if the product worked or not. I purchased this for the Nintendo Switch and was unable to get it to work. Not sure if it is because the switch was not yet patched and the USB ports were still operating in USB 2.0 mode at launch. Unsure if this product supports USB 2.0 and 1.1 or not. I purchased another brand that specifically said it had legacy support and it worked straight away..

A salesman recommended this product for use with a Dell - Inspiron 2-in-1 15.6" 4K Ultra HD Touch-Screen Laptop - Intel Core i7 - 8GB Memory - 1TB Hard Drive - Black. I later discovered it didn't work with Windows 10, The products customer service confirmed there was not a Windows 10 driver for this device.

Had an Issue with the Driver, but it works great

At first, I plugged in and everything worked fine, then I decided to add the driver, and my MacBook Pro freaked out. I couldn't connect to the internet. Apparently the driver that comes with it is incomplete. Went to the RealTek website and downloaded the correct and complete driver. Now, everything works perfectly! https://www.realtek.com/en/component/zoo/category/network-interface-controllers-10-100-1000m-gigabit-ethernet-usb-3-0-software If link doesn't work then, go to Realtek.com (may appear Chinese, click in the corner and change language to English) Click the menu button (3 lines icon), Download, Communications Network ICs, then scroll down to RTL8153 Download the software (may need to download on another computer and transfer to a drive) Uninstall and reinstall...should work perfectly

It might work for a day or two. Then the EEPROM goes bad. Also, it only supports an MTU of 4000. Cheap Junk. Not worth $5. This is the second one I've had that went bad... The only reason I got it was because the Best Buy brand was out of stock.

    Excellent-Plug&Play w/Linux

Linux Mint user here. Plugged into USB, Linux immediately recognized it, and it worked. Kids pc. Basically, we had installed an NVIDIA graphics card, apparently they are infamous for frying other things in your pc, in this case, the onboard ethernet adapter/card. So, we took a chance here, as the description on the BB Insignia box makes no/zero mention of Linux compatibility. Buy this, use this. You can return, but you won't have to. Or buy one online and hope it works. And then hope you can return it.

I have an ultra book which did not come with an ethernet connection. I generally connect wireless But I missed the ability to connect via a wired connection, especially when loading critical updates. This adapter solved my problem and with usb 3.0 it connected much faster than wireless.

My laptop did not have 10/100/1000 Ethernet so I tried this product. Software installed easy and it worked pretty good. Usually get 200-300 Mbps down. Even though I have gigabit speeds I guess that's all I'll get since this device is an add-on and not built into the laptop.

    Not 3.0?

My fathers on-board died, so we went out to get an internal PCI-E replacement from our local Best Buy, sadly, they do not have those in stock. We had to settle on this item, at the time thankful he had several USB 3.0 slots (never had a prospected use for them till now), however after a couple hours of trying to get it to work and trouble shooting with Insignia over the phone, we were going to return it as defective, I decided to just try a regular 2.0 slot. Turns out it worked right away, no problems, even runs just as fast as the on board did, at ~200 Mbps, according to speedtest.net. Not sure if this is a Windows 7 64-bit pro thing or what...

Guaranteed to mess up any Mac!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

There is a driver incompatability that rendered all networking functions on two different MacBooks that I own inoperable, including the wifi adapters on both machines. I followed the driver installation instructions precisely, using drivers that I downloaded for the product from the Insignia website. My machines are a late 2016 Macbook Pro with touch bar, running OSX High Sierra, and a 2015 Macbook Air with OSX Sierra. I ended up having to boot both machines into recovery mode and having to reinstall the operating systems on both machines in order to remove the Insignia (Realtek) adapter drivers and restore any networking functionality back to both machines. This is unacceptable to me, and this incident led to an extremely stressful day, considering one of the two of us in my household works from home and relies on conducting video conference trainings as part of her career. I am concerned that people who are not as competent with computer diagnostics and repair as I am will purchase this product and end up with non-functional machines. I whole-heartedly feel that continuing to sell this product as-is, and without any disclaimer whatsoever, is completely negligent behavior on the behalf of Insignia/Best Buy, and is also a prime example of false advertising, deliberately misleading consumers such as me. It is safe to say that neither my partner, nor I, will unfortunately never purchase or recommend any Insignia branded product again as a result of this experience. I hope that in the future you do more to protect your customers from potentially damaging their equipment by using your misleading products and advertising.
