Had purchased one of these adapters that was not powered like this one- it did not work. It took a decent amount of research and luck to find out that it needed to be a powered adapter- and this one is powered and worked!

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this so I could use the VGA output from my desktop PCs video card to a TV as a second monitor. It's easy to set up: just connect the VGA and USB to the PC and run an HDMI cable to the TV. My PC doesn't seem to want to save the configuration, so I have to fiddle with monitor setup after rebooting, and it wants to steal audio from my PC speakers, so I have to deal with that, but those are minor problems. Of more importance is the noticeable video ringing adjacent to large changes in picture contrast. So this device is good enough, but not perfect.
