It's the Generic alternative to Google home
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Insignia portable speaker is basically the Generic alternative to the original Google Home. It is very similar size and a very close design. The Google Home and Insignia are pretty much fraternal twins.... what sets the Insignia apart is the permanent clock display and intermittent temperature display which is a great added bonus for a smart home assistant. The sound is great for the size of the speaker, the far field voice detection works very well, and it is aesthetically pleasing as a décor piece. I love that I am able to connect the Insignia to my Google Home group to play music throughout the house on all the speakers. The touch sensitive controls on top of the speaker also are very nice as they light up when you get close to pressing before you actually touch the speaker. Overall, this is a great option to add to your Google home accessories to control lights, thermostat, smart plugs, stream music, and be a quick informative assistant in your smart home.

At Current Price The Best Hey Google
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This little baby is simple to set up. Plug it in, and look for it with your Google Home app. It will be yours in a few minutes. The sound is quite a bit better than the original Home device, and its a plus to have the time displayed. The outdoor temperature does not linger more than a few minutes after you've asked. It is still tricky getting Home to communicate with things like Ambient Weather and the Honeywell wifi thermostat. And the Insignia Voice did not play well with the other Home device either. But it's not sold as an add-on so no loss of review stars, though I hope it will come soon. Just keep it in a different room and keep your voice down! At the current best buy price and the better audio quality, this is the thing to add Home to your house.

So Happy!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the first google assistant speaker for me. I bought this to replace an old radio that I keep in my kitchen to listen to music while cooking and cleaning. I never imagined I would be able to get such a great replacement for a super price! I love this and I am so happy I bought it. I am not super tech savvy so I have a lot of learning to do regarding the different uses for this but so far I am very impressed. I am able to listen to the local radio stations I like and I am having fun finding out about all of the other things this device will do for me like checking the weather, setting alarms and reminders, etc. I think the sound quality is great. I am really pleased with this product and I highly recommend it!

Great Sound! Glitchy with bluetooth & Apple
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For the price, you can't beat the sound quality, but when BT paired with Apple TV, the set top box seems to drop sound without warning, leaving me to enter Apple TV settings to disconnect and reconnect the speaker. There also seems to be an issue with the speaker itself. Sound level intermittently drops audio volume to level 20 and the controls flash on and off while audio playback. No pattern so far, but may be triggered by external sounds. Will have to call support to see what could be causing the issue. Google voice works flawlessly, and I really like how helpful it can be. I would recommend this speaker to anyone looking to save money and have decent audio playback. Hope the bugs get worked out though.

Good sound and feature for the price when on sale.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sounds great for the price when on sale (bought it for $45 from bestbuy), and convenient with the built-in battery. However, it draws 7W at standby which is substantially higher than other smart speakers which usually draw 2-3W at standby.

Great Google Assistant Speakers for the Price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Currently own multiple Google Homes and wanted a pair of these to use as speakers/alarm clocks in the bedroom. Bought two so that I could pair them to work in stereo. Each speaker was easy to set up (after automatic firmware update) and worked and sounded great. Very happy with the speakers when used individually. However, once they are paired together to get stereo, the right speaker just says "Set" on the display. Checking with Google only the left speaker will respond to commands in a stereo pair, but it would be great if the right channel speaker could show the time rather than just displaying "Set". Other than that, these are great sounding Google Assistant speakers that can't be beat if you get them at the sale price. Kept review at 5 stars because display problem with stereo pair may be Google's, not Insignia's , fault.

Great sound and features - need call support
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Speaker sounds great and Good Assistant features are quiet good. A bit disappointed that call feature is not supported after so many months on the market. Is Google Assistant call support coming, Insignia and Google support team?

Excellent speaker for price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first day with this speaker. So far, it's got great sound quality! Setup was a breeze. Easily added with my ecosystem of other Google home products. Added to two different speaker groups and tested the broadcast feature for the first time. I don't like that it doesn't continuously show the temperature, but it's not a deal breaker. It will show the temperature for your city or area when you ask it for the temperature, but then after about a minute it disappears from the display. I'm looking forward to using this speaker for years to come. At the sale price that I got this for, I should have picked up a few of them.

Great Alarm Clock Replacement
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been using an iLuv alarm clock with 30pin ipod dock for several years now. It sucks, but I bought it. I wasn't a huge fan of Amazon Alexa devices so I just started using Google Home devices with Google Assistant. So far, it's very useful and fun. I've set multiple alarms with this clock using Google Assistant. I'm a heavy sleeper so the jury is still out on whether the tone used for the alarm will be enough to wake me every time. I've just started using home automation, but I'm now telling her to turn my Christmas tree on and off with another Insignia outlet device. I also love the fact, I can say "Hey Google, play (program) podcast." and she'll start playing the latest podcast of that podcast. Absolutely no setup to make that happen. My next mission is to purchase a smart thermostat so that I can adjust the temp by voice to my alarm clock from bed. NOTE: There is an initial issue with the clock getting stuck in Eastern Time Zone. I believe the reason is that when doing the initial setup with the phone app, it will setup wireless and once the device connects to the internet it starts doing a firmware update and ignores the rest of the setup process on the app. Once the firmware is updated, you have to do a quick factory reset by holding the button on the back for 12 seconds and starting the setup again. The setup process will then pull the time info from your phone, just make sure your phone time is set to Automatically set.

Value for money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are in the market for a decent speaker which also has a voice assistant(as a bonus) then this is what you are looking for. I have both Echo & Home at home and can provide comparison against them. Personal story - I was looking for adding a clock into my bathroom, where I am told I loose sense of time while taking shower. However I also play music at the same time. This speaker combines both aspect of my needs. I now have spotify on decent sounding speakers while also keeping check on time. Anything extra I can ask assistant is a bonus. Recommended buy.

Nice dorm or nightstand alarm clock replacement
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Positives; For me using it as an alarm clock on the nightstand is perfect. You can change the brightness level of the full-time clock display. Also setting an alarm is easy and you can use hand motions above the speaker to access some functions. Insignia site states speaker is built by Sony. I have had good luck with their products so hope that continues here. The speaker is compact - as it is more or less a small tower design – and feels quite solid. Very nicely packaged. Its comes with an AC adapter and also has a usb port to charge a device. Kind of nice if you have your phone on the nightstand too and want to keep it charged. It has Chromecast audio capability built in but I could not find whether it uses 2.4 or 5 Ghz wireless or both Initial setup was done quickly as I already had Google Home installed on my android phone. Bluetooth sync is done separately, so be advised Sound quality is OK with 8 watts RMS rating. If you need something to really pump out the volume – this probably isn’t what you are looking for. A nice feature is if you ask it to turn volume up/down it shows the percentage of volume you are at for a few minutes. Same goes if asking what the temperature is (outside), it shows for a couple of minutes I have another Google assistant speaker and they synced up with no problem. You can play music on 1 or the either or both. Negatives; The display to me isn’t as clear as it might be. States its portable but it went “dead” when unplugged. Portable to me means it has its own battery and can be used with no AC power. To this point you cant change the alarm sound or use music to wake up to. Firmware update? If you turn off the microphone there are 4 lights at the top that turn red and stay on. While you can change the brightness it seems a tad much to have to do that at night on the nightstand. Cant make calls – but I cant on my other Google assistant speaker either (different manufacturer). I did some research and it seems you need certain firmware version for Google Home (1.28.99351 or higher) and Google app version (7.17 or above). I have the latter but not the former and cant seem to figure out how to update Google Home on my phone. Overall a nice addition to my “smart” home.

Love the clock!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I replaced my Google Home with this device. The sound is amazing, I love the clock, and the fact that I can carry it around like a portable speaker (though it is heavy and quite big). Definitely worth it!

A Nice Option
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've only used this device for a short while. Though the sound is much improved over the original Google Home it is not currently able to make outgoing calls. It simply respond that it isn't able to make calls "yet" but the documentation simply says it is not possible. For the user who is wondering where the temperature display is you must ask Google what the temperature is and it will display it - briefly.

Decent for the Sale Price, but Flawed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For the sale price this is a decent device. Better sound than the mini, Clock display. But there are a few flaws. 1. The mic is not as responsive as the Mini. You have to shout at it, and it seems to fail to lower the volume of the media it's controlling when speaking to it, though it's supposed to. I don't think continuous instructions work with it yet, though maybe in the future. Despite the pics showing, and it stating so, it only shows the Temp when asked, and only for a minute or two. Overall it was definitely worth the $25 I paid

Great smart speaker with caveats
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great smart speaker, but it's not perfect. The microphone on this thing is incredible. I've been standing in my kitchen (a full room away), and this speaker still hears me. I have another Google smart speaker, and its microphone isn't nearly as good. Like my other smart speaker, this does have trouble hearing me over itself at certain volumes. Bear this in mind before cranking up the volume. I like the digital clock face on the front. It just screams that it wants to be used as a bedroom alarm clock (except for one glaring problem - more on that in a moment). The audio is clear and loud (except for when it isn't - again, more on that in a moment). I love the black aesthetic. It goes well with my apartment's decor. Unlike a lot of 3rd party smart speakers, this one is capable of making phone calls right out of the box. Now for the bad: The alarm is super quiet. It's weird. I have the volume turned up to 50%, and the assistant's voice is quite loud. That being said, when the alarm goes off; you can barely hear it. I've tried cranking the volume up, but the alarm volume appears to be constant. This is a major problem if you were planning on using this as a bedroom alarm clock. Still, this makes a great living room smart speaker for controlling my Chromecast and smart plugs. I definitely recommend this speaker (except for as an alarm clock).
