Very happy with this purchase. I had purchased the non-portable version previously and was happy with that model. This model sports a battery so it can be used outside, and is also quite a bit larger than the non-portable version. You simply cant beat the fact that this is a portable Google Assistant that sounds pretty good, for half the price of a normal Google Home device.

nice sound and portable , of course out of the wifi area, then is just a blue tooth speaker with nice base. Google assistant is built in, however, google doesnt send the vendor the most recent firmware. It's doesnt have the option to listen for more commands, you have to say hey google everytime, like you did for the google home and mini before the last firmware update

This is a great blue tooth speaker with google assistance. Nice bass sound and loud. Also portable, battery lasts up to five hours. Only thing is there doesn’t seem to be any updates, also if connection to the internet is lost it does not connect automatically when internet is back on. You will have to turn it off and turn it on again to connect.

Great google home product. It has its own internal battery so you can use it as a portable speaker/assitant for outdoors activities etc2. Hardware wise is pretty good. Robuat build, great bass on speakers & pretty simple to use. Have to subscribe google music or spotify to get it to play your favourite songs. Otherwise, if you're more of a radio person, its free.

Insignia Voice Smart Speaker sound is very good, especially the portable one has better sound clarity than actual google home speaker. Digital Alarm clock with occasional temperature display is fun to see. One issue with this speaker is that it doesn't go in follow up mode even though the option is on in google home app. Loved for the price of $25.

This is so easy to set up, directions are clear, easy to use. Showed it to a friend and he bought one. Have purchased two additional ones as Christmas gifts for my Grandsons. Plays music nice and loud, which I like or if you perfer plays softer. It will accept more than one device where the one I had was difficult to change from one device to another.

This smart speaker is awesome. Very easy to setup, sound quality isn’t the best I’ve heard, but it isn’t bad either, and the Google assistant works amazingly. Battery life lasts a few hours just as advertised and I like the handle in the back for portability. I wish it used micro USB or something similar for charging, but a small complaint.

I bought one of these on sale for $45 & found it to be pretty good for that price. Then on a deal of the day it was only $35 & it was only 3 days after the first one so I bought another one & also got $10 back on the first one. Really like them but for some reason within the last couple of weeks it no longer shows me the temperature readout when I ask for it. Don't know what changed but I thought it was nice when it worked but not the end of the world without it. A lot cheaper than a real Google Home but a lot less features. Can't make phone calls & probably never will, Can't read text messages either. Sound is pretty decent also. Not the sound of a Bose system but no where near the price. Actually has some bass to it so not bad at all. Has a hard time hearing me when music is playing even if I really yell loud at it so have had to go over to it & mute it to get it to work. With more than one of them I can tell it to "Broadcast" to the other one so I can use it as somewhat of an intercom from downstairs to upstairs. All in all pretty impressed. Haven't used it yet as a portable but would have to be in my wi-fi range to do it.

I am not sure why this is getting some bad reviews. It states there is no calling in this speaker yet, but it may be added in the future. If you mark this device down because of a KNOWN lack of a certain feature, maybe you should research a bit before making a purchase. Here is what you need to know. Does this speaker work off the Google home app? Yes. Can you control devices such as lights, TV, harmony? Yes as long as you have the necessary hubs that even the Google home will need. The time display is a great touch for a bedroom device. Sound is very good from this speaker, it is in fact SLIGHTLY better than the Google home when tested with the same source, side by side. Temperature only displays on the screen for a few seconds when you ask Google the temperature. Overall with the free 15 dollar bonus gift, I basically paid 74 for this speaker. Is it worth what I paid? Definitely. Would I pay 149 for this speaker? No I rather than just by a home for full features for less. Ignore the people marking this speaker down for KNOWN shortfalls. Black friday will have the home at 79 vs 89 for this speaker. It's really a wash at that price. If you prefer the static time display, buy the insignia. Either speaker will work great. If I was buying for any other room other than the bedroom, I would just buy the home

I purchased 2 of these speakers so that I could put music anywhere in my house using the wifi capabilities. The sound is decent for the price. The fact that there is a battery to play even with there is no outlet nearby is a plus. I am finding that using wifi is better than using bluetooth as well. Having google built in is nice also.

49.99? Best alternative to Google Home OG there is

Well almost....It can't do phone calls like the original line of google homes but that's not a bad thing if you leave the speaker in a high traffic area. I know there is voice match but sometimes I feel a little weary that someone can mimic my voice and maybe make phone calls anyway. So if you're paranoid like me, losing the calling feature may not be such a bad thing. I love the portability option though I rarely use it. I can bring it downstairs or to the garage or backyard when I'm out there. I'm just afraid over charging may kill the battery. I'm not sure if there is tech in the speaker to prevent that. Sound is loud and bass is above average for a speaker of this design. It does all the same things as the Google home minus the one feature at a fraction of the price. The clock part is the best. I know if you're single, you can just scream out to the OP homes and it'll tell you the time but when you share a bed with someone, it's best you just open your eyes and check it yourself. TLDR: Money well spent! -1 star for not being as fully featured as the OG Homes but it's close. 4.5 stars if I could

I was looking for a bedside Bluetooth speaker that sounded better than my cell phone. This is way more than I bargained for, with rich sound and a built-in battery that makes it totable. Icing on the cake is Google Assistant capability: Just ask to set an alarm, check the forecast, get a news briefing. It even has a clock display!

You get good sound. The google home feature nice. I stream Spotify off of this speaker as well as my Echo. But the portability makes it convenient no need to pair with a bluetooth speaker like I do with the echo. Only issue I have is the Mic not as sensitive as the Echo. But this is a fraction of the price.

Bought the item on black Friday for cheap and compared it to other Google home speakers and for the price the sound quality was great. I do like the fact that it has a built in rechargeable battery (honestly I don't see myself moving it too much) and display for time and temp. Overall you'll be satisfied with the product.

I already had a google mini and google home app, so connection was a snap with my smartphone. Mostly listen to music. The voice command works quite well and music sound is decent. Love the portability of the speaker, no wires and a built in handle. Where ever I go around the house the speaker goes. WOWED. .

    Affordable Alternative to Google Home

I got this when it was on sale and the same price as an Echo Dot or Google Home Mini and currently use it side by side with an Echo Dot so that's my main point of comparison. The Echo Dot has better mics and seems to pick me up much better but the Google Assistant seems more able to answer what I ask for than Alexa. The Insignia speaker is much better sounding - which is a given because it is bigger - but the main feature I like is that it is portable and has it's own battery. I can use Google Home wherever my WiFi reaches. About that, it is very much WiFi dependent. No internet and it doesn't even work as a clock (a recent Internet outage resulted in the display not even showing time). Ironically, the portable version is bigger and better than the non-portable one. Bigger speakers and better sound. For negatives, the display isn't too bright but I wish there was an automatic night mode - even if just based on time and not a sensor. Also, the power cord is not a standard micro-USB or USB-C so it isn't 100% portable as in bring it anywhere and charge with anything.

Love the battery component so I can take it anywhere. Very good bass sound, but just don't crank up beyond an 8. Get's fuzzy then. Good battery life - at least 5 hours. Like the carry handle built in which makes it easy to carry. Got it on Black Friday sale for $25.00 so unbelievable functionality for the price.

I have two of the smaller versions of this item and they make great speakers and alarm clocks, but when this item went on sale for $25 we couldn't pass it up. When I went to pick it up, I knew it was bigger than the others I already had, but I didn't know it was that big. It took a big part of the shelf just for this device alone. However when I started using it I was blown away by the clarity of the speakers and how well the Google assistant responds when asked a question. Besides being bigger the only difference I have noticed between this one and its smaller sibling is that this is portable so you can take it with you when you go places, or outside if your having an outing. My only complaint with the item is that sometimes you will ask it a question and the assistant will say "Hold on while I connect to Wifi" and that is annoying, especially when the smaller device in the next room answers the question that was asked, and this device sits next to the wifi router.

This was originally running in the hundreds but the associate at Best buy recommended this because it's portable despite it being large and it has a rechargeable battery so it doesn't need to be plugged in. Google assistant runs smoother than Alexa but I like the smart home interface regardless.

I bought a bunch of these on the day after Christmas for a great deal. For the price, you get all the functionality of the Google home devices plus a better speaker, bigger body, and portability. Major downside is this thing is a heavy paper weight without WiFi, which it needs to function.
