It seems like a very good build product... But it doesn’t work very well, it messes up your wifi connection and only works sometimes... Go with the WEMO or the TP-LINK (Cheaper)

    Inexpensive Solution To Wireless Lighting

I have cafe lights strung up in my back yard, but was sick of plugging them in and unplugging them on the side of the house every time I wanted to use them. With the help of this little gadget, I can now power the lights on and off from my phone. The app itself is a little wonky, but it gets the job done. I wish it integrated with my Hue system, or even talked to Apple Home, but for the price, this is easily overlooked. Setup was easy, just follow the instructions.

I purchased 2 Insignia Smart Plugs because I wanted to have the convenience of voice commands for my lights as I own 2 Google Home devices plus the price was of great value. When I first bought the Smart Plugs they worked perfectly with a quick and easy set up. Now a few months later they are constantly disconnecting from my WiFi and my Google Home is telling me an error message as well as I cannot control the lights from the app. After resetting the plugs, they would work for like 2 seconds and then disconnect from WiFi. I know from the User Manuel, blinking green means that it is disconnected/WiFi signal is weak but after running a WiFi speed test as well as having my phone, computer, Google Homes and PS4 connected, the WiFi signal is not the issue. Will be purchasing the WeMo plugs to replace the Insignia Smart Plugs. For the plugs being $20 per smart plug you get what you paid for I guess

I bought several so I could hook up lambs to replicate activity while on vacation. While set up was relatively easy I did have to reboot my iPhone several times for software to take a valid home Wi-Fi access code. The programming of schedules is a super feature, I named mine based on the times and days they were active. Have devices go on and off at random times such as 4:12 AM to 4:18 AM to simulate activity. Program schedules based on normal activity patterns for each device for its location. Speaking of location the application shows signal strength for each device. This is very helpful when you're placing a device at the far side of your house away from your Wi-Fi router. I also suggest that you program all your schedules while at home. Remote changes can take minutes to save. Of course you always have the manual on off button on the application.

I bought two of these, and these were my first smart plugs ever. I took them out of the box and had them both fully functional on both my and my spouse's Android phones in LESS than five minutes! All the negative reviews about incompatibility and losing signal must be for an older version of this product; I've had NO issues. In fact, I'm currently about 15 miles from home and just confirmed that I switched on the lamps that are plugged into our outlets at home and it took about 3 seconds for the signal to go through. AWESOME PRICE, Great product. Highly recommended.

I have 5 of these in my house and can't be more happy with the performance. They can be a little tricky setting up initially, but once they are connected, they're great. And you can't beat the price of $14.99. I use the Alexa voice commands as well as the insignia app on my Andriod phone. I'm thinking of getting the wall switches to control wired lights...just wish they'd come with a dimmer. Also wish they would make an outdoor smart outlet. I want to stay with one brand so I don't have to use multiple apps to control.

What is worse? The product or the app?

I'm actually pretty surprised there are positive reviews. I bought 2 on sale for 12 bucks a piece. Had I spent $25 each which is the current price, I'd be furious. The application which is the only real way to control these things is awful. It is terrible on both Android and iOS. Constant delays, log outs, bugs, etc. They recently updated the app and I had hoped it would be reliable. Instead it logged me out of my account and made me delete it and try logging back in 5 times before it worked. This happened on two different devices. The plugs themselves just randomly disconnect and will not reconnect or don't respond to the app. Finally we gave up on both. Not worth the hassle. I will buy a better brand next time, and I'd recommend you do so as well.

I recently started to venture in the "Smart Home" world and recently bought a Google Home. I didn't want to go all out into the Smart Home world, so I decided to try out the Insignia™ - Wi-Fi Smart Plugs. I bought a few of them yesterday and they work GREAT! The set up was very easy and the setup with my Google devices were a breeze. I would highly recommend this product for anybody who is just curious or looking to add a few more geek like features to your home!

OK for Simple Use, if you have an Apple iPhone

Purchased 5 of these plugs to control my various Christmas lights. I have an Android phone (Note 5). The Android app is very flaky and crashes constantly when trying to do initial setup. After numerous attempts with multiple plugs, I was never successful doing initial setup with the Android app. I switched to my daughter's Apple iPhone 6s to see if it would be any better at getting the initial setup completed. Once I switched to the Apple app, the initial setup went OK for 4 of the 5 plugs. One of the plugs will not configure. I spent multiple hours trying to get the plugs to work because of the Android app and the one plug that would never configure. After the initial configuration, I am able to use the android app on my phone for control and scheduling setup. I primarily wanted these plugs to do scheduled ON and OFF times. I have configured the schedules and am waiting a few days to see if they work reliably. As others have stated, these plugs DO NOT work with any home automation and control devices (e.g. Amazon Echo or Dot, Google Home, IFTTT, etc). The only control you can do to the plugs is with the Best Buy's Insignia application. Also, you HAVE TO create an account with Best Buy to use the app and devices. If you have an iPhone and only want to do simple ON and OFF control of something (with the Best Buy Insignia app) or scheduled On and OFF times, then these are the devices for you. Pros: Seemingly solid physical design. LED indicator can be disabled. Easy configuration (with Apple iPhone app). Easy Scheduling setup. Price ($20) Cons: Response times to manual ON and OFF control can be slow (laggy). One plug (out of 5) appears to be DOA (dead on arrival). Forced to create a Best Buy's account to use app. Android app flaky and unsuccessful at initial configuration. No way to manually add a plug to app if auto-detect wizard fails.
