It is a cool concept and if you can get it set up CONGRATS! I have set up 4 with no issue...the other 4 I have been a nightmare. It's been three weeks and still can't get them to connect. No videos on trouble shooting. No web pages with "things to try". You are alone. Again if you get them set up you have done an amazing thing. Enjoy! If not. Return them ASAP. It isn't gonna happen for you in this lifetime.

    Insignia Wifi Smart Plug

It works instantly with the app alone. You can connect it to the Amazon Echo or the echo dot it works you just have to add the skill directly through the amazon alexa app but the respond is kind of spoty its a hit or miss which i believe and update of some sort could be done to fix it but it definitely worth the try..

    Excellent Smart Plug

The plug was easy to configure using the Android App. Once configured, I added it to Google Home and it can now be controlled via a voice command. I am please with it. My only wish is that the smart plug be available with the prongs on the right side.

    A fancy strobe light

For this being called a "smart" plug, these things are dumb as dirt. I own 4, given to me as a gift. About 3 times a week, sometimes more but never less, these will stop working. Sometimes they won't respond, but more than likely, they will just start flashing. The light flashing is bad, it's like a dance party at 2 in the morning. When I see it flashing, I know all hope is lost, because that means it's lost connection. You can unplug it (to reset it) or reset the internet until the cows come home and it will NEVER reconnect again. I have to always delete the device and reinstall it. I hate the hours these things have wasted. Spend your money on a better product.

    Did not work for me

App is not good at all and kept me from actually trying out the plug. Took several tries to connect to wifi. Once I was able to, it would never accept my created name for "home". When I would start over, it would then not connect to the wifi anymore After about 45 minutes, I just gave up.

So- once you connect to the plug directly for initial setup, it's supposed to then move forward in the Connect app. It doesn't. Tried with new iPhone, also with iPad... would prefer to do things using a computer, it sucks that everything requires a phone. Anyway, it just doesn't work. Tried several, since I bought four plugs to integrate into my Alexa and Harmony Hub based home automation system. None work on any of three devices. After reading SO many other similar reviews, plus all the complaints about having to be logged in on the app for the plugs to run schedules- it's just a ridiculous setup and I can't imagine how the design team thought this was a good idea. I'm a senior engineer in high tech and I've had FAR more than my share of gadgets over the years and this is truly one of the worst. Now I have to box them up and lose out on the shipping cost to return them. For what it's worth the Wemo stuff has been rock solid.

Its a good price for an appliance controller. It setup easy with the Insignia app. And controlling with the insignia app worked, But thats where it stops. Although the package says works with Google Assistant, it does not work with Google home. Also Insignia support only has one solution, reboot everything. I'll switch to Belkin.

Got five of these smart plugs to connect to my Google Home. The setup proocess using the app is slow and clunky - you'll need the patience of Job. Worked okay for a few months. Now, every other weekend the Insignia server goes down and I guess the engineers don't work overtime. The plugs will not work without the server so it's back to manual mode - totally defeating the purpose of a smart plug. Then suddenly on Monday's all's good - when the engineers return from their trouble-free weekend. I set a schedule for the plugs to go on and off while I was away for two weeks - the plugs worked only two days my house was dark for the rest of the time - thanks Best Buy! These plugs belong in the garbage along with all Insignia products. Wake up Best Buy - I like shopping in your stores but your line of electronics SUUUUUUUCK.......

I had nothing but trouble setting this device up. I factory reset it 4 times before it would finally connect. I almost gave up and was ready to return it. It FINALLY connected and works properly.......now. I would NOT recommend this device to anyone. I would suggest looking at a different brand to serve the purpose.

I purchased one unit to control Christmas lights and seemed to work OK. Setup instructions are not correct, but you can download the app from the google store and figure it out. I installed the Insignia App and then went to smart home in the Alexa App and Alexa found the device OK. The unit worked correctly about 90% of the time although I had to do a reset once. Overall it was OK, so I went out and bought 2 more. After a few weeks they all stopped working. I did a reset and deleted all devices and then re-installed, but they still only work about 10% of the time, so basically useless. I will say the unit works a bit better with the Insignia App than it does with Alexa, but I don't see any point in using a smart device if I need to open an app and click a button on my phone just to turn on a light. I might as well just use the switch. I will not by another Insignia product.

These smart plugs will work well on DECENT WIFI. If you have trouble setting up with a particular device switch to another. Also, don't try to use apple homekit and an Android device to setup/controll these devices. Homekit locks out other users which has little to do with Insignia and more with apple..Customer service was great when I needed help with this device!

Purchased the item today for a lamp located in my bedroom away from the bed. It was annoying to get out of bed to turn off the lamp. The app and plug were very easy to set up, and works rather quickly. My only complaint is that the app has crashed a few times on Android 7.1 since i started using it, and I had to log into my Bestbuy.com account after every crash. It would be nice to have a feature to save my login information. Other than that, a good experience overall. Hopefully there are more devices you can connect to the insignia connect app soon.

    Buyer Beware !

This is junk and all you will get for your money is wasted time and a trip to the store for a return. I bought 3 of these, set them up which was easy and they worked perfectly for 2 weeks. That's it 2 weeks and now I can't login to the needed "Connect" app on my iPhone or even my Android phone. After wasting my time changing my password, resetting the plugs and even creating a new account along with reinstalling the app on multiple devices the issue persists. The online forum for support is a joke and I am being kind so these are being returned. Also BestBuy offers no direct support line. After some investigating this problem is well documented online and here in the reviews and has been a chronic problem that obviously Insignia / BestBuy has failed to correct.

Hello, We appreciate the feedback you have given us. The reason for the failed login attempts is due to the fact that we experienced some issues with our application servers. Nonetheless, our engineers quickly identified the issue and this problem was resolved in an expedite fashion. Once again, we apologize for the inconvenience and wish you a great day! I purchased 3 smart plugs - got shipped quickly. I was kind of impressed that they were pretty inexpensive, and yet the product and even packaging look high quality. Best for me is that it was easy to set up without reading any instructions... it just worked. Even better, once connected, the speed is great: very fast response time to turn on/off.

Hardware works, but the software is terrible

The product is decent and once you get them setup they work well with Google Assistant. I've had to move my plugs a few times and reset them and each time it can take anywhere from a few minutes to over an hour to get the device to connect to wifi. I once tried for two hours and just gave up and finally the next day it randomly worked during setup. I'm not sure what the issue is with software and firmware and why it's so buggy but it's just bad. They have got more responsive overtime but Best Buy will need to give this product more software love in order to bring them up to par. They may need to upgrade the server this system runs off of or overall remake the app and software. The product could be great but it's just ok. I'd by the WEMO or other item over these.

I wasted a LOT of time trying to set this up with my newer iPhone which has iOS 11. Luckily I still have my old iPhone with iOS 10. It set up just fine with that. AND with the Insignia Connect app on my newer iPhone, I can still access the plug, once it was set up with the older phone.

I bought this product for my Christmas tree lights because the outlet is in an awkward spot in my kitchen. This "smart" plug seems like a great solution, but its not a perfect product mostly due to its instability with its connection to wifi. Overall its okay, but for the $20 price i paid i dont feel its worth that. I have very strong wifi on my private home network and this could barely connect to that. -error messages appear maybe 1/8 uses -five - fifteen second delay when tapping "device on/off" -loses wifi connection and you have to set up again For my needs in my apartment this smart plug by insignia barely meets the cut. I would recommend a stronger one from a different manufacturer if you need more dependability for your outlet and devices. Its a cool idea when it works.

I purchased an insignia smart plug a couple of months ago along with a smart switch from another manufacturer. Up until today the insignia smart switch would have been rated a 4 to 5 star product. Tonight when I tried to turn on the light plugged into the switch clicked on the app and was directed to sign in, anoying. I tried signing in with my BBY ID and PW as directed. Was returned to the sign in screen. after several tries i reset my password. Tried to sign in with the same results. Not sure having users use their BBY ID and PW is the best way to do this. Tried using the app support button in the app store and all I got was the BBY web site, no sign of app support. Now I own a paperweight that cost $30. Next I will buy a switch from the other brand I mentioned that also has Home Kit functionality.

I have U-Verse internet and google home. I was able to install the Insignia app on my Iphone. I was able to find the smart plug on my wifi. But when asked to link the smart plug to the app to the wifi - it would not connect. I had bought two plugs - I tried to do this several times with both plugs but in the end neither one would connect. I returned both and bought the TP Link smart plug (double the cost of one Insignia plug). It was a breeze to connect and works perfectly so far. Not one 'connection failed' response. You get what you pay for. The TP Link also works with Google Home for voice activation.
