Good if you don’t have newest iOS device.

I had a terrible time setting this up apparently it has a very hard time working with iOS 11 which is what I was told by insignia. This is a problem with their app not the plug. I set it up using a friends android phone and now it works fine and shows up in my iPhone insignia app. Update the app and the product would be great.

I was shopping for a Wifi outlet and stumbled across this in the store. Liked the design, so when it's plugged in it does not block the other half of the wall outlet. Bought 3 to try out with my Christmas lights. Downloaded the App on my iPhone and super easy for the initial setup. Adding the additional outlets was a breeze. Love the large indicator light showing when the outlet is on and you can even turn this feature off. The scheduling feature is very easy to customize. I will be buying 4 more

    Doesn't work

I have several Laneco brand smart plugs in my home so I got this as a gift for my family. It's unfortunate Best buy only sells this one brand in the store because it's terrible. Id imagine the hardware is the same on all of these but, It's the app that really kills it. I tried on both android and iOS and couldn't get the plug set up. Aside from the headache of having to create accounts etc. It's very frustrating. What's dumb is that the app for the Laneco plugs is simple and easy to use. I set them up first try and connected them to an Amazon echo and haven't had to even open the app in months. It's too bad that the accompanying app was given so little thought and effort that it simply doesn't work. I'll be returning this product today. Check the app store, everyone is saying the same thing about Insignia Connect. Just go to Amazon, it's much simpler and by the way, they cost MUCH less

    Only on 2.4GHz

It's able to see only the 2.4 GHz wifi network and not the 5GHz. So fair warning if you plan on using it on the later, do not spend your time and money. If it doesn't matter to you which wifi then go ahead, works as advertised. Please do not try calling Insignia support, they have an attitude problem.

    Would not connect to wifi

This item was a total waste of about 40 minutes of my time, trying in vain to get it to set up. I am not a novice at smart items...I have an Echo, 2 dots, a Nest Thermostat, 11 smart light bulbs, 2 wifi cameras, a Harmony hub with all my electronics(and Alexa) linked to it, and 2 door locks. I have had zero issues setting any of them up.But this plug just would not cooperate not matter what I did. I followed the directions to the letter, tried all the troubleshooting steps, including a master reset, but got nowhere. The plug kept switching the internet connection on my phone (and I assume the plug) to an Insignia connection, which had no internet access. But the setup function in the app just kept spinning for what seemed like forever, until it gave up. After about 40 minutes, so did I. It's going back to the store tomorrow.

Worst smart plug you can buy

I spent hours trying to configure this plug and finally got it working. I upgraded my phone and had to reinstall the insignia app which required adding the smart plug which I finally gave up on. Don't waste your money on this.

What a frustrating product. Don't even waste your time. Tried multiple times over the course of an hour to add this to the horrendous connect app and each time it completes, crashes, and does not show the plug added.

I bought two and they worked well through the Insignia app and Alexa for just about a month. They started to disconnect after awhile and now I can no longer connect them at all. Spend another $10 and get the Wemo.

    Horrible App

    Posted .

I finally pulled the trigger on a smart plug for a lamp that I could no longer easily turn on and off. I was inspired when the plug connected right away and I could turn my light on and off with the app effortlessly. Then I went to work and when I returned home I could no longer log into the app. In fact, when I tried to log in the app just returned me to the login screen or it just crashed completely. I uninstalled the app and reinstalled it. Same thing. I factory reset the plug. Same thing. Unfortunately, there's now contact information in the iOS version of the app to even report the issue or seek support. I'm returning this to the store tomorrow and getting something that integrates with my Apple Home native app because smart plugs are supposed to make life easier, not harder.

I own 5 units. I spent a lot of time trying to re-program this units to a new router. I was able to do it after spending about 8 hours. I have several units from other brands, and they get setup without any issues.

    Constant server issues

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

1/06/17 after having two of these plugged into lamps in home I have experienced several issues, which I can only attribute to bestbuy having server issues lasting minutes to today 1/06/17, hours without resolve. Other connected devices (thermostat, LIFX, etc ) have no issues connecting. The insignia connect app continues to say "invalid token" even though no password have changed. Additionally Google Home is unable to control either of the two plugs installed. If Best buy corrects the constant issues that this product has I'll update the review.

Only 2.4GHz + Poor App Seemed to connect only to my 2.4GHz network, then the app hung. At least the reset button works so I got to try 5 or 6 times with no luck. Will return it tomorrow.

    Doesn't Work

Bought several of these. Worked great for a few days after moderately challenging set-up. Then stopped working suddenly. Spent a half day rebooting, doing factory resets, etc. Finally called customer service number. Cut off on the first call after lengthy hold. Second call couldn't help. Third call indicated that an update had rendered it inoperable for the next 4 days. Surprised they couldn't notify anyone since your account number is your email address. Baffling. Decided to return them. Store made a huge hassle. Surprised by the return hassles given that it is house brand. Never buying Insignia brand again. Sketchy on ever shopping Best Buy again.

This device has been awful since purchase. Insignia boasts that they update the app every week to two weeks, which is great except every time they do the app deletes or no longer sees the device, OR the device no longer connects to the wifi and you need to factory reset the device, and delete the info from your app and then go through and set it all up again. Every update has gotten worse and now it just blinks all the time and no longer connects or factory resets. My recommendation is to go for a slightly pricier smart plug elsewhere, the money saved on this one has cost a lot more in terms of aggravation and time wasted.

Just bought a Home Mini. Thought it would be great to use this to control a entry light. At first, it worked great. It worked so well, I bought a second one the next day. As soon as I started to setup the second one, thing went down hill fast. The first plug stopped working and I could not setup the second one. I've gone thru resetting both units. Uninstalling the app (many times). Nothing. Trying to reinstall the app, it would give me "Token is Invalid", Registration error, or not even install. I've looked on the internet for fixes. no solutions. Sent off an email off to Insignia, no response. I'm taking them back.

Unit needs wireless B/G/N, unable to wireless N only. If using such product, all devices on the network will negotiate at the slower speed. App does not allow only on or off without the other setting. IE want to make sure lights are always off when I head to work. Unable to connect to Google Home app on phone unless one has a Google Home devices, more failure on Googles integration. One should only need an android device to use Google Assistant which is not so. Also unfortunately also designed in such a way that should one want to turn on a light, one would NEED to use the app instead of the devices switch.
