    Worst Device That Never Setup - 1 year Later

    Short version is after try to set this up FREQUENTLY over the last 16+ months I finally decided to just trash it. The only thing I did like about this product is reading the customer service replies on a bestbuy ‘help’ forum. Mariah* giving no real advice, simply repeating the same thing over and over. I literally ignored my child for HOURS at a time trying to set This single piece of paper weight up. I don’t get frustrated easily but this piece of trash near got me there. It does nothing. Deserves a 0-Star rating due to the money and time it wasted.

    This device only work for a few months then stops. Insignia customer service is the worst! I have 6 of these and 4 have stopped working I have tried everything insignia has asked me to do to reset them but nothing works. Insignia responded to my first email for help very quickly, then after sending email after email back to them to see if they will honor their warranty for their devices that wont work they don't bother to respond I have had the devices for 8 months and they claim they give you 1 year warranty on them, don't buy insignia products because they don't honor their warranties.

    Quirky setup APP

    I tried to add a new device (Smart Plug) 5 times from an IOS 11 device with no success. Every time my router showed it in the DNS table with an IP address & I could PING the Smart Plug, but it would never show up in the Device list of the APP. I factory reset 4 times and retried, no joy! I grabbed an old iPad 2 IOS 9 and setup (Add New Device, Smart Plug) worked first time. Once setup I signed in with both IOS 11 devices and can see and control the Smart Plug. Can NOT recommend..

    Worked ok in the beginning. However Best Buy sunset the product and broke its functionality. Monetary loss and unnecessary ewaste.

    Will not connect! Check the reviews for the app on the google store (2 stars) and you will see this is a very common issue. Waste of money.

    It does the job but I can't make schedules since the iPhone App keep crashing when trying to set times. Emailed customer support, they say they are working on it and to return the item.

    I had two of these plugs going, and going well for a few months and now, out of nowhere, they both stopped working. There appears to be no reason for this and even though I reset both to factory settings according to the paperwork, I still get nothing out of them. Now, apparently, I have let too much time pass to return them. The fault is not mine, yet I am being punished by Best Buy. Not happy. Not happy at all.

    Worked for four days

    Worked great for 4 days and then I woke up to the LED flashing and it wouldn't turn on through my Echo. I was able to turn it on through the app on my phone, but it wouldn't respond to my echo and the LED wouldn't stop flashing. I reset the device four times, reinstalled the app on my phone twice and tried to connect to wifi countless times. Now, I cannot even turn it off/on through my phone as it gets as far as the wifi setup (only after a factory reset each time) and then I get a registration error. I give up.

    Normally I wouldn't give new technology a 1 star review but in today's day and age Insignia/BestBuy really blew this one. I don't care if your stand 100 feet or 2 feet from router , it just doesn't connect in any reliable manor. Device would be great if it worked but due to really bad app and weak device , I really don't think these should be on the shelf for consumers to waste their valuable time until they at least solve the app or weak signal issue. Too bad , I had high hopes and will return the 4 I bought.

    It works with app, but not Alexa

    I have got two smart plugs, both works well with Insignia app. However, neither of them can be discovered by Alexa. Contact the customer service and it is helpless.

    These are almost impossible to install. They need to be registered to work and you need your gps location on to register them. I think that both of those requirements are strange and overstep the bounds of requirements of use of a purchased item. But the worst part is when it tries to register, the onstellation fails due to it stating the registration call failed. Not only are these almost impossible to install but they appear to want you personal and location information to use them. Steer clear.

    I gratified to learn that it isn't just me that couldn't get this thing to connect to my network. During the process I attempted to calll Insignia on the 1-800 number listed on the pamphlet that was in the box; after a long sales pitch the voice said "Thanks for taking our survey" and then disconnected the call. After about 2 hours I took it back to Best Buy for a refund. Bye, Bye Insignia, I will be sure to never buy any of your other products also.

    Setup didn't work at the first time @ iOS device. After following all instructions couldn't see the device on my iPhone. After many tentative, I installed the app at my Android device and could see/manage it. iOS (iPhone) still can't see my device. Somehow I couldn't do all the setup at Android device, It says that device is being managed by iOS... Very confusing setup, need an iPhone for initial setup and an Android device to manage it...

    Downloaded the app onto iPhone 7. Insignia never appeared as a choice under my Settings - Wifi - menu on the phone so basically I could never "set up a new device" (the Smart Plug). I have super strong wifi in my home and all other factors were fine; this should have worked. It's going back to the store. Really only wanted the product to be able to turn on coffee pot from another room in the morning, but never even got close to seeing if that was going to work.

    Don't waste your money

    Product worked great in the beginning. Then I had the novel ideal to move the devices to a different location in the house. Now the devices will not resync back to my WiFI. I have tried resetting the device but nothing seems to work. I really regret moving the devices to a different area. However, I never have issues with my TP-Link plugs. I would not recommend this device. I'm not sure what the warrant is on the device but hopefully it's a year.

    Worked for 2 weeks, now product is useless because the app is not letting me sign in to the smart plug. The app wont let me log in anymore and now the product is useless. Even try resetting password and the app still doesnt work. Now its just an expensive garbage.

    The plugs only stay connected to the network for a few days before they forget that they are connected. I have had to rebuild the network several times. Customer service has been absolutely no help. I am disappointed that Best Buy has released these plugs without the proper product testing to ensure they are able to stay connected and without training their customer service reps in how to answer the questions I have had. Avoid these smart plugs!
