This was my worst experience with Best Buy. I had received an old, rusted and a non-related that item in the same box. Best Buy should check things inside the box before delivering to customers I had to go return and face a lot of problems and finally could return the item. Best Buy should give me a courtesy credit for this hassle in the cold and wasting two trips and my time.

My home’s garbage disposal hadn’t been as efficient as before, so it was time for an upgrade. Luckily, the opportunity came up to give the InSinkerator a try. I’m not going to lie, I was a bit worried that the install would be a bit difficult and involving. Boy was I wrong. Installation could not have been any easier. With a couple of readily available tools, and a bit of patience, you’ll have this in within a matter of time. Unbolt the old unit, tighten the new InSinkerator, plug in, and you’re good to go. The InSinkerator feels like a really well built unit. A little on the heavier side, but is so much more compact than my old one. There’s actually room under my sink for a bit more storage, which is always great. As for the performance, I couldn’t be happier. It’s not too loud and does a great job of disposing residual food waste. I was a bit worried about performance due to the size of the InSinkerator, but the end result was great. If you are in the market for a new garbage disposal unit, definitely consider this InSinkerator. You can’t beat the price, performance, and the compact size of this unit. I’m really happy with it.

    Great Mid-Line Disposal

Most residential sink disposers are 1/3. ½, or ¾ HP. There are a select few that might hit the 1 HP or more, but they are not common in the home. This model being ½ HP, with an attached cord, a 3 year warranty, and made in the USA by Emerson Electric fills the bill for a great basic garbage disposal. It uses Emerson’s quick attach mounting ring that is used on the majority of residential disposals in the United States. This make is much easier and quicker to change out the disposal if your old model has the same mounting system. I found the instructions helpful for the various configurations you might run into with a change or a new installation. Situations where you might need to change the mounting flange as in new or retrofit installations. The instructions also discuss situations where the old disposer is “hard-wired” with no receptacle under the sink. I found the installation straightforward and no big deal. It took me no more than 30 minutes to change it out with the previous disposer. I especially liked the new power cord retainer on this new model. Its molded plastic with a built in 90 degree bend. It allows you to set the disposal on the floor during the installation and the cord is not bent in a tight 90 degree bend. It also keeps the cord pointing to the back and not down under the sink after installation. Great feature. One suggestion I have for the manufacture is to include a small packet of plumbers putty in the box for those that will need it to mount the ring. This model is a nice middle line disposal that will work for most people. It has more than enough power and comes with a “wrenchette” that fits in a hole on the bottom of the disposal to turn it if the disposal gets jammed during use. I’ve had to use the wrenchette on other disposals on more than one occasion and it’s quick and handy. This model is also fairly quiet. It’s not the quietest model out there, but it is smooth and you are only running it for about a minute or so during most uses. I find that noise is not an issue on this model. However, always run a lot of water when you are grinding with any disposer. It flushes the pipes and prevents plumbing clogs. CONCLUSION: This is a great middle of the road disposal for use by most everyone and it’s made in the USA. It has the features, power, easy mounting ring, and comes with a power cord installed. It also comes with a 3 year IN Home warranty. And the size is compact enough to fit under small sinks with tight spaces and those installations that have under sink garbage cans. I highly recommend this model.

One of the things I am always concerned about is how easy or difficult the installation will be. I have to say that with the InSinkerator - Badger 5 Standard Series 1/2 HP Continuous Feed Disposal, the installation was amazingly simple. The one and only thing that I had to purchase was plumbers putty, seeing as I had tossed the putty I had on hand, thinking I would not need it any more. This is the second disposal I have installed within the past year. This disposal went into the small kitchenette located in the Family Room bar. From start to finish it took less than 30 minutes. I was glad that it is corded with a standard plug-in, as it saved me from having to do all the wiring that would have been necessary in a wired-only installation. Because the other installation was so fresh in my mind, I didn't even have to read the instructions. If this is your first installation in a while, however, I would highly encourage to at least read through the instructions to familiarize yourself with what is required as far as tools etc. The unit itself appears to be very well-built and durable. In other words, it is not built out of cheap plastic and other materials, but seems designed to last for several years. The metal components are made of stainless steel. It comes with a 3-year parts/labor warranty. Now, three years really isn't that long, but this seems to be the standard warranty among all the major disposal manufacturers, so I guess it's acceptable. After getting the unit installed, I tried it out with some leftovers I had in the fridge, including some bone-in wings. The disposal performed wonderfully, making quick waste of all I threw at it. What more can I ask for? It did its job, and did it flawlessly. The one and only thing I'm not crazy about with this unit is that it is a bit loud. Not horribly loud, but still loud nonetheless. But at this price point, I don't think you will find any unit that is more quiet than this one. All-in-all, I have to admit I am a 100% sold on the InSinkerator - Badger 5 Standard Series 1/2 HP Continuous Feed Disposal. It is solid, well-built, and economically priced. It is obvious it will last longer than the warranty period, it is easy and simple to install, and is made by one of the leading disposal companies, a company that defined the benchmarks of quality. I would highly recommend this unit to anyone looking for a new, high-quality disposal.

Entry-Level Disposal From a Reputable Manufacturer

Review for the InSinkerator Badger 5 Garbage Disposal (comes included with a power cord) SIZE -This product is relatively small so it should fit under most sinks - it's just under a 1 foot in height and just under 7" in diameter. - ~13 pounds - The chamber capacity is designed for 26 oz = 770 mL (~3/4 of a liter). MOTOR - Horsepower = 1/2 hp - Volts = 120 V - Frequency = 60 Hz - Rotation = 1725 RPM - Average Amperage = 6.3 A MATERIALS OF CONSTRUCTION - Galvanized steel grind components MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY - 3-year COMMENTS - InSinkerator has 3 Series of garbage disposal: Standard, Power, and Quiet Series. - The Badger 5 is from the higher end of the Standard Series. As you would expect, you can get more power and better noise reduction from the higher end of the product line. Comparatively, I would say this fits in with what you're typically used to when it comes to the sound generated when using an in-sink garbage disposal. - As the name implies, this Badger 5 is sufficient for a standard kitchen sink. Installation is easy as it comes with an easy latch system. This could easily be done with one person but I would recommend two people if not installed by a professional. It's just under 15 pounds but the awkward location of installing it under a sink is why I needed a little bit of assistance. - Keep in mind that this product is NOT designed for harder food scraps like peach pits and chicken/beef bones. - For the price, this is a perfectly sufficient and capable garbage disposal.

This Badger was an upgrade to a previous Badger that was installed. The nice thing about staying with Badger was the ease of installation with the new one. We just bought this house and the Badger that came with it still worked fine but would have a popping sound here and there (couldn't find anything loose in it) and it was only 1/3 HP, not to mention appears to have been installed about 20 years when the house was built, but that is not confirmed. I figure doing an upgrade would be best. I actually bought this exact model for my gf earlier this year when hers went out in her house, and she was able to do the install mostly all by herself. This was my first time installing a garbage disposal, and it went pretty smooth since the parts were nearly identical, putting it on was about as easy as remembering how I took it off. The built-in power cord is a nice option after reading some of the instructions for models without it. After the install, it runs much smoother and quieter than the previous one. Not to mention the extra power will be nice to have. The 3 year warranty is the cherry on top, along with the “we come to you” warranty. Can’t beat that type of warranty, plus its made in the US. I do recommend the Badger 5, my girlfriend’s has been working great this year and so far with this new replacement, its doing a much better job than the older model.

Installation for this was easier than I thought it would be. I replaced a 20-some-odd-year-old InSinkerator with this model, and I'm pleased. This model is a little quieter than my old one, and it works great. I like the lighter weight than some of the older models, and the plug-in version was an extra bonus. The way the unit installs under the sink is the real genius part. It's as easy as the videos show for installation. Unless you need a direct-wired unit or really want a disposal that is quieter, This fits the bill. Orange, lemon, & avacado peels are gone in one shot. Just about everything we put down there was gone in one quick 3-4 second run. I didn't feel like I needed more power for anything we put down the drain. It's been great. I like the three year warranty. This unit will probably last three to four times longer than that, but it's a great piece of mind that if something wasn't quite right, it's taken care of. This is usually where I have a comment about something I didn't like, but there really isn't anything to complain about unless you expect complete silence when running the unit. .

The InSinkerator - Badger 5 Standard Series 1/2 HP Continuous Feed Garbage Disposal with Power Cord in Grey is a high quality garbage disposal. It is quiet, but loud enough to let you know it’s working, so there is minimal chance of me accidentally putting something into the disposal that’s not wanted. It disposes of food waste and egg shells quickly and effortlessly. It’s also nice it plugs into a 110 volt outlet and doesn’t need to be hardwired. Everything needed is included in the package for efficient set up and install of the unit. A big plus is that it’s made in the USA. Also, it’s not a huge deal, but I like the color of the exterior as my last one was not as attractive. I’ve owned Badger garbage disposals in the past and am confident this one will last a long time with minimal to little rust and consistent disposing. If you’re in the market for needing a new garbage disposal, the InSinkerator - Badger 5 Standard Series 1/2 HP Continuous Feed Garbage Disposal is a good bet for a high quality unit.
