Bought in October, went out in 6 months. Told by Best Buy to reach out to manufacturer, but I would have to uninstall myself and bring into store.

The InSinkerator - Badger 5 Standard Series 1/2 HP Continuous Feed Garbage Disposal is a solid member of Badger's well-established line of garbage disposals. I've used many Badger disposals over the years and have found them to be solid, well-made, and reliable products. It's a little hard to evaluate the relative strengths of a 1/2 vs 2/3 HP disposal. This is the standard 1/2 HP model and it confidently handles the full range of normal kitchen waste put through it. You do have to watch out for the odd item that can sometimes cause problems (such as a peach pit). But I've experienced that with the 2/3 HP model as well. Of course you also need to keep utensils out of it as well. Otherwise, it just works and works and works. If you have not had one installed previously, then you will need to make sure you have power available. You'll also need to make sure you have the right plumbing in place as well. For me, installing it as a replacement for a much older unit was a relative breeze. The hardware, etc. was already in place so it just took some muscle, basic tools, and it was in in no time. I like products that you can confidently rely on once they've been installed. This is one of them.

The weight to size makes handling the unit under the sink quite cumbersome. Make sure you orientate the unit properly before attaching to the under-sink latch. Having already had a garbage disposal the electrical was already in place. If this is a first-time installation, consider where the outlet and switch will be located. For a half horsepower motor the unit is quiet enough. The inSinkerator passed the celery test without any clogging. The instructions caution against grinding high fiber items, as clogging may occur. The unit is equipped with a hex key and a spot on the bottom for unclogging. The inSinkerator comes with a three-year limited warranty. The lift and latch system for easy installation. Dependable grind for most food scraps. The unit is sturdy and made with galvanized steel grind components. I would recommend this garbage disposal to friends and family.

Build Quality - Build is very good and durable. Packaging was very substantial. Unpacking was a breeze. All parts and components were in the box. We are really good with the instruction manual and the steps for installation of the garbage disposal. Performance - Used it for the past few days making stews and soups. Chicken as well as turkey debris and the peels of onion, potatoes, carrots went through the disposal without fail. Speed of chopping the food into bits was very quick and no issues Grinding the debris and having it go down the drain. Quietness - Very quiet machine - had a different brand before and it was rather loud. This one is very quiet and can still have conversations when it is chopping and grinding the foods. Installation and space under sink was very good. Used the existing drain kit that was from a different brand but was universal with the insinkerator brand. It took about 20 minutes from start to finish to get the garbage disposal installed, running and tested without fail. The plug was the best part, It came already installed on the garbage disposal, so one less step to have to manage.

The Insinkerator Badger 5 food disposer is a good value in my opinion based on several factors I will highlight here: -Fairly straightforward installation for someone who is DIY savvy. (The quick connect sink coupler is a big factor in this.) -Power cord comes attached so it is a quick "plug and play" unit, so long as you have the outlet under your sink. -After testing for several days, it has had no issue chewing up various food scraps we've thrown at it. As aggressive as Badgers can be, I'd say the disposer has a fitting name. :) -After the install process and using the product I can say with a fair amount of certainty that this disposer will be a dependable, long life product in our home. -The construction and build quality of this disposer seems on par, maybe even a notch above other units I have used in the past. -The 1/2 hp motor and galvanized grinder have been up to the task in our household (2 adults, 3 kids) and I personally would not hesitate to purchase this unit. Overall, this is a solid food waste disposer for the price and should not be overlooked when considering your purchasing options.

Just the right size for what's needed and very powerful.

This is the go-to, commodity-level, basic garbage disposer bar none. InSinkerator is one of the oldest and best-established names in the business, and there are probably more of the Badger 5 units out there than any other. These guys are available from 1/3 HP at the way the 1 HP, but I think this ½ HP unit is the sweet spot. It’s enough to do the job but not overkill in price or electrical demand. Installation is plumbing 101 and nothing tricky. If you’re replacing a plug-in unit, there’s no electrical work at all. Just … plug it in. If you need to hard wire it, then it’s up to you if you feel comfortable doing the work. This is wiring 101 and very basic. Just be sure to turn the breaker off first. If you are replacing an existing InSinkerator, you can leave the existing sink mount in place and use the new rubber seal and splash guard. That will make the new installation very quick and simple. It’s a twist lock mount and very straightforward. There are plenty of videos out there if you need coaching. If you check around, you will see that the Badger 5 gets overwhelmingly good reviews. However, with as many of these guys that are installed there will always be a few lemons, so plug it in and test it before you install it. When using it, do not batch-feed a bunch of garbage. It’s a continuous feed unit, and you need to run plenty of water … cold water. Also, do not expect it to eat heavy bones. Use it as intended, and it should last a good while. If you do have trouble, there’s a two-year warranty. This is a good unit at a good price but always check for sales. East to install and easy to recommend.

This is a good solid basic garbage disposal. It is compact, so there is little soundproofing (the great big garbage disposals are mostly sound insulation). The missing sound insulation isn't a huge deal, garbage disposals don't run for a long time. 1/2 horsepower is typically more than enough power for most kitchens. This unit has a three prong power cord attached. It can be modified for hardwiring. If you do not have a switched outlet under the sink, air switches are available to plug in, they use a clean small hole through cabinets, and are discreet. Installation is like any other garbage disposal. The twist lock feature is nice, but really isn't the main difficulty with installation. Twist lock allows you to install the sink flange without the weight of the disposal. The nasty part of this job is removing the old disposal (rotten smelling traps / plumbing) or routing traps with a new installation (if you are not familiar with the correct way to include a trap, please have a plumber install this - the instructions do not cover how to properly install a trap). This does have a knock out for a dishwasher connection. In addition to all the usual plumber tools, the sink flange requires plumbers putty. Be sure to roll the putty into a thin sausage before applying it. Instructions are on a single massive fold out sheet in three languages. They aren't great and they aren't bad, just basic.

This replaced a previous Insinkerator brand garbage disposal, so the mounting hardware was able to be reused and installation was a breeze. I'm a woman in her 20s who has almost no homeowner experience, let alone plumbing experience, and this took me about an hour to do from start to finish, including packing up the old one to get rid of. I would recommend watching some youtube videos on how to install as I felt the included instruction guide to be a bit lacking. The sound is a little quieter than my old garbage disposal, but it feels as powerful if not moreso and it's handled my family's regular daily use with food scraps like rice, leftover meat, veggies, etc. We are careful to filter out things like seeds and fish bones. Advice for install: + have some youtube tutorials on hand + you will need to use more force than you think you will (most likely) - ours had a bit of trouble "catching" the ridges which was a bit of a struggle + this thing is HEAVY. it's fifteen-ish pounds so you will probably want to prop it up under something or have someone help you. it doesn't seem like much when you're just carrying it around but being under the sink trying to manoeuvre will be harder than you think it will, full stop. Overall highly recommend and hoping it lasts a long time! Our last one was starting to go but it's been with the house for years.

I’ve had a InSinkerator Badger 5 XL for as long as I can remember. Pretty sure it’s a rebranded version of this unit for a different retailer. My trusty Badger doesn’t have a problem but I ended up with a clog last week that the disposal wouldn’t clear. Everything would go down when I’d run the disposal and then come back up. After nearly $2000 in plumbing repair downstairs and in the interest of preventative maintenance, I decided to change out my disposal because water had been sitting in it for three days. A friend told me that it was super easy to change one, so I cleared out my stuff and went underneath the sink. There was a romex wire going directly into a hole in the bottom of my Badger and that was attached to a makeshift plug end with a ton of tape. Yikes; glad I never looked down there. I took off the Badger with a pretty simple twist and brought the grimy thing into the metal recycling. This new unit came with a black cord end. Luckily, it snapped right in to the existing bracket with a clockwise turn and when I plugged it in, it ran same as the Badger. Tested some orange peels. Have been using it for a few days. Working great. Same 1/2 horsepower, same chop chop.

I been shopping around looking for a Garbage disposal I found the one I needed at a great price plus Best buy gives me a bonus with it. I enjoy shopping at Best buy at store and on line thanks Best buy for making it easy for me!

The garbage disposal arrived well packaged and seemed to be in new condition. The instructions that came with the unit were very detailed and easy to follow. I wanted to install it myself, but due to the way the piping under the sink is constructed, I would need to custom make adapter pipes so that this unit could be fitted in. I ended up calling a plumber to have him install the unit. The plumber however, found out that the ring on the top was defective so the unit could not function. The plumber was so nice to install a unit from their vendor and discard this unit. I really wanted to give a good review because this seems like a solid product, but it just wasn't working. We absolutely needed a garbage disposal because our current one was old, rusted and was not working anymore. I am trying to make the best of this review which is not easy because what am I supposed to say when the garbage disposal was not functioning properly, My suggestion is to make sure to check the units for these kind of issues before shipping them. It was great that you all sent it out for free unfortunately it didn't work.

First garbage disposer broke within two seconds of operation. Best Buy exchanged it for a new one which has worked as expected. Selected this product because its latch is interchangeable with the Whirlpool garbage disposer, so it saved installation time. The three-star rating is due to the first one immediately breaking.

After a month of operation the disposer is working well.
