This is a great garbage disposal. It is really powerful with 3/4 HP compared to a lot of the smaller/less powerful models out there. It was also really easy to install. I am somewhat handy but not the most, and was able to install it myself without issue and in a reasonable amount of time. It's also great that it has a plug and doesn't need to be wired. It's also worry-free as it comes with a 4 year in home part and labor warranty so if anything goes wrong. So if anything goes wrong, you know you're covered. On top of that, it just works really really well. I've had many garbage disposals in the past and this one works the best out of all of them. It's very quiet compared to other garbage disposals despite have 3/4 HP and also just sounds like it runs really smoothly. We have a decent amount of food waste with young kids and it never seems to have an issue handling. Overall, this has been a great addition to our kitchen and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a garbage disposal.

There are a multitude of garbage disposals out there, but InSinkErator is the one that always seems to come out on top. This disposal seems to fit that perfect niche of price versus performance. It covers all the bases you are looking for in a disposal at the right price. Firstly, right out of the box the build quality seems to be right on par with what you would expect from an InSinkErator product as it feels built to last. More importantly was how compact the disposal is as it allows for not only more room under your sink, but also an easier install. Speaking of the install, it couldn`t be easier if you are coming from a previous InSinkErator disposal as it has the "Quick Lock" sink mount feature where you basically just twist off your previous InSinkErator disposal and then twist on this new one. When I did install my previous disposal, as a first-time home-owner with limited handyman skills, I will say it was not difficult at all so I would assume if this was your first InSinkErator then the install would be very straightforward and able to be completed by yourself. The one thing I will mention if this is your first InSinkErator is to make sure you buy this model as it includes the power cord as other models you may find on other sites may appear cheaper, but they do not include the power cord. After getting it installed, which literally took 2 minutes to twist off the old one and twist on the new one, it worked flawlessly. I`ve been using it for a couple weeks now and have not had any issues in the slightest and it has been able to grind up everything I have thrown at it and much quicker than my previous model. The noise is what you would expect from a disposal as those thinking you`re going to have a whisper quiet disposal are not realistic so for me the sound was not out of the norm as to what I would expect. Overall, for the price you are paying I feel as though this model is the perfect bang for your buck. The compact design, ease of install, and overall performance are all absolutely superb and I would find it difficult to find another disposal at this price point that would be comparable to this model when looking at those characteristics. I would definitely recommend this product to those looking for a new disposal and for those with a previous InSinkErator model it is an absolute no-brainer decision.

    Perfect grinder for my house!

I chose the Insinkerator Power grinder for many reasons. First, well, it's an insinkerator! I have owned several houses and always go with this brand. The installation is a snap. First, install the insinkerator collar in the drain. Then, just lift it up and turn the collar. Done! Instructions with the unit are very clear for most DIYers. If your last waste disposer was an insinkerator, you don't have to install the mounting collar. Otherwise, disassemble the current drain and closely follow the instructions for tightening a new collar onto the sink. If you are replacing a disposer, you should already have a plug underneath the sink that is operated by a switch. Newer homes also have an on/off switch for a dishwasher and the two plugs can be in the same outlet. If you do not have such a plug already, you will likely need an electrician to install the outlet and switch so that it is in compliance and safe! On functioning, I found this machine to be fairly quiet, even when I put ice cubes in it. I live on well water and a septic tank, and having the Badger Insinkerator makes a world of difference to avoiding clogs in the drain lines AND to having a problem in the septic tank and drain lines. It grinds up things very small and they easily go on their merry way! If you have a dishwasher, you can have it empty into the disposal or into the drain tailpiece of the second side of the sink. So don't knock out that dishwasher connection until you decide! I typically use the connection on the Insinkerator because this does provide 'flushing' out of the unit with hot water. Either way is great! Once installed, this disposer is great for the house.

This is not my first InSinkerator, so I got to test how easy it is to swap out an InSinkerator for another one; and I found the process sufficiently easy (just make sure to follow the directions and maybe watch a YouTube video or two). That is just a reason to stay with InSinkerator once you get one, but that is a good reason as garbage disposals do need replacing every once in a while; though to be fair my first garbage disposal failed within two years of moving into my brand new house. I got an InSinkerator and it has been working perfectly ever since. So, this review is a little bit on the fact that the badger I have still works perfectly but also on this new one as well, that seems to work just as well as my old one but is smaller, which is a plus for being able to fit more junk under my sink. My couple of weeks with this one proved that it can eat through pretty much anything (except rocks, it still wont eat through rocks that somehow end up in the sink). The box says the next size up is needed for small bones and what not and I’m certainly not throwing rib bones in the sink but this one certainly eats up a fish bone or small chicken bone that makes its way into the sink. Egg shells, Kiwi skins, banana peel pieces, and strawberry tops have all succumbed to the grinder and it still sounds great. Overall, this garbage disposal just works which is what you want a garbage disposal to do at the end of the day.

InSinkerator Hits a Home Run - Again

The InSinkerator - Badger 5XP is just what you'd expect from this brand. Solid, powerful, and the setup was straightforward. The instructions were helpful and the Quick Lock feature makes it extremely simple to install when replacing a previous InSinkerator garbage disposal. This feature requires you to stay within the brand, but with the reliability record of these units, I am not complaining. It comes with the garbage disposer, flange, stopper, assembly components, Quick Lock components, power cord and user's manual. The badger 5XP also offers a 4-year 'We Come to You' In-Home Service Warranty - a nice addition that enhances your confidence in the product. It is noticeably quieter than previous versions we've had. That's not a small thing when you use it regularly every day. We recently spent most of a year in Canada and were surprised to discover that garbage disposals are not standard in most homes there. This made coming back to a brand new, upgraded, InSinkerator all that more sweet. Not really a lot more to say. It does what it should - and does it very well and reliably.

I had a builders grade 3/4 horsepower disposal when my house was built and I noticed that the performance of the unit was suffering (was only 5 years old). The unit was loud and taking too long to grind food up. So I got this unit hoping that even though it’s the same horsepower, it would perform better…by far and wide, this outperforms the builders grade model. I’m not plumbing inclined so I had a professional come out and do the install. Took about an hour and cost was on par with labor rates. I would recommend having a professional do this work, at lot of naughty words were heard and a few bloody knuckles later it was done. Right away this unit was quieter than my original one. Even when grinding meat and other hard foods, the sound difference is significantly noticeable and it was able to chew through hard foods a few seconds earlier than the original. I’m throughly impressed by this unit and give it my highest recommendation. If you’re looking to upgrade from a 1/2 horsepower or just looking to get a better quality disposal, you won’t be disappointed!!!!

InSinkerator Badger 5XP is a powerful garbage disposal. The installation was a breeze, and it is surprisingly quiet compared to my old unit. Make sure you have all the necessary tools to install it if you are going to DIY. The garbage disposal is made of galvanized steel and comes with a 3/4 HP motor that is strong and capable of grinding anything you throw at it. It comes with all the necessary hardware for installation - screws, bolts, gasket, tube, flange, stopper, mounting ring, etc. I like that the power cord pre-installed to the unit. So, no need to do any electrical wiring if you can plug it into an outlet. This Badger has the dishwasher connection if you have the provision to attach the drain line. It is recommended that you run the water every time you use the grinder as it helps with any build ups. You also get a 4-year in-home warranty from InSinkErator. If you are looking to get a new garbage disposal or replace your old one, consider this powerful and quality one you can't go wrong with.

    Reliable, no-frills Workhorse

While they're not the sexiest home appliance, anyone who's used a garbage disposal knows the difference between a good disposal and a not-so-good disposal can mean the difference between a quick kitchen cleanup and a call to the 24-hour plumbing repair service. Insinkerator has been in the disposal business longer than most -- in fact, Insinkerator's founder is credited with inventing the "in-sink" garbage disposal as we know it today. I've been an Insinkerator user for almost a decade and have always found them to be useful and reliable when treated right. So when I had the opportunity to upgrade my disposer when I replaced my kitchen sink, I decided to stick with the Insinkerator brand and give the Badger 5XP a try. The 5XP is an upgrade of the unit I've been used to for the past few years, the Badger 5/500 series. This is the go-to workhorse of the Badger lineup; the 5XP's big upgrade is a more powerful motor, 3/4 hp vs. 1/2 hp in the Badger 5. If you've never installed a garbage disposal before, don't be intimidated; it's a bit more involved than your regular sink drain, but definitely DIY-friendly if you follow the directions (and especially if you have a helping hand). As I was installing a new kitchen sink along with the disposal, I had the benefit of installing the drain connection before the sink was in the cabinet, but Insinkerator helpfully includes step-by-step instructions for both situations. The 5XP is nearly identical to the Badger 5/500 on the outside, with the 5XP being just slightly taller and heavier. You shouldn't have any trouble fitting a 5XP in place of most common garbage disposals. The 5XP uses what Insinkerator calls "lift and latch" technology, which means the unit simply lifts into place underneath the drain fitting and tightens with the turn of a latching ring. While this part is easier with help, I had no trouble lifting and latching the 5XP into place by myself. You'll find everything you need for installation in the box, and this particular model comes pre-installed with a power cord -- be sure to check whether your current disposal is hard-wired or plugged in and order the appropriate kit. I found Insinkerator's straightforward instructions easy to follow, and had my current Badger 500 out and the 5XP in its place faster than I imagined. The only part that will look different for each installation is the drain piping to connect the 5XP to the existing plumbing setup; in my case, I was able to use one of those flexible pipe kits to connect the 5XP to the existing drain. Folks have strong opinions about the use of flexible drain lines, but in my case it made installation a snap, and I haven't had any trouble in the two weeks the 5XP has been in use. Being part of the Badger line, the 5XP is on the simpler side, without the marquee feature being the 3/4 hp motor. It does without the sound insulation, multi-stage grind and removable baffle designs of higher-end Insinkerator products, although Insinkerator's marketing materials indicate it uses some stainless steel grind components. If some of the upgrades of more expensive models are high on your priority list, it's worth looking at all the products in Insinkerator's lineup, which should have something to meet your needs and budget. While a little basic, the Badger 5XP does what it's designed to do, and does it well. I have been using it almost daily for the past two weeks, and not once has it given me a lick of trouble. Every time I flip the power switch I've been treated to a prompt pulverizing of whatever food waste I've put in, without any clogging, splashing or complaining from the 5XP. I was especially impressed with how the 5XP handled the apple cores and peels I threw at it while making apple crisp: the Badger made quick work of everything without so much as a seed left behind. For me, the 1/4 increase in horsepower over the Badger 5/500 series is noticeable in daily use. The Badger 5XP grinds quicker and more completely on the first try. I don't find myself having to let it run quite as long as I was used to with my previous Badger 500, which sometimes needed more than a few seconds to get everything ground down. Impressively, the 5XP doesn't seem any louder than the 500 it replaced, despite the increase in power, and I especially appreciate it taking up the same amount of space under the sink, so I didn't lose any storage space by upgrading. In my opinion, the Badger 5XP is a straightforward, reliable workhorse, backed by the proven Insinkerator brand. The power increase over lesser Badger models is noticeable and appreciated, and absolutely worth the upgrade. That power doesn't come at the expense of noise or size over its brethren, either, which is a win as well. While it's not the quietest or fanciest model on the market, the Badger 5XP does what it's asked to do without complaint, which is probably the highest compliment one can pay a garbage disposer.

I had the good fortune of being able to replace a critical piece of plumbing before it failed, going right into the holiday hosting season with the InSinkerator Badger 5XP 3/4 HP disposal unit. A food waste disposal isn't the sexiest of kitchen appliances, but it's one that we lean on quite often. Ours was approaching 16 years old and I didn't want any issues - so I took the opportunity to replace my old 1/3HP unit with this 3/4 HP unit. As disposals go, Insinkerator is the first name I think of and there's a good reason why - they make a quality product and have for years. Installation of this unit took me about 15 minutes. I do consider myself quite handy, but really I'd rate this project maybe a 2 or 3 on a scale of 1-10 for difficulty in home projects, especially if you had an InSinkerator unit before. Even though my unit was 15+ years old, the mounting system hasn't changed. I was able to disconnect the old unit from electrical, disconnect from plumbing as my old unit was fit with hand tightened PVC fittings, and simply give the old unit a third of a turn on the mounting ring that was in the sink. Installing the new unit was essentially the reverse of the installation process - lift the unit in to place with one hand, use the included manual override tool to twist the mounting collar until it's snug, connect plumbing and electrical, and the insatllation was done. I checked for leaks with a small amount of water running through and all was good. I have nothing negative to say about this unit. From the moment I turned it on the first time, it has ran flawlessly and has not gotten clogged or required any manual intervention at all. Noise wise, it is indistinguishable from my old 1/3 HP unit. I am careful about what I put down my drain and use the disposal on - if I'm doing something where there's going to be a lot of waste, such as peeling potatoes, I always fill the sink and get the potato skins floating in the water, then pull the drain cover and start the disposal. This ensures there's a sufficient volume of water in the disposal so as not to create something that is going to be too thick and clog up the downstream plumbing. As disposals go, this is a solid performer and I would highly recommend this unit to anyone looking to replace or install a new disposal in their home.

I got this for a kitchen remodel, first garbage disposal ever owned and I must say I love having a garbage disposal. The installation was extremely easy with a help of a friend. The instructions were easy to follow. The unit came with everything needed for the installation with the exception of the plumbing. I highly recommend having it professionally installed because of the electrical and plumbing, also if you want to add an air button on the counter top. During installation it is also important to install the dishwasher piping first before positioning the disposal unit and electrical switch under the sink. The Lift and Latch feature made installation so easy to connect. Operation of the unit is very easy with the air button. If not on/off switch on wall or undersink. After washing the dishes I recommend running the water while it is turned on while grinding the contents it will also flush it through the unit and prevent build up and smell. The unit is a little loud because it is not an insulated unit like the more expensive units however not a deal breaker. The 3/4 HP also grinds chicken bones and veggies within seconds, the initial noise is scary but you know once its ground up the unit is quiet again. Overall, this is a powerful unit to grind chicken bones, fish bones and orange peels without issues. I recommend running water while grinding to ensure contents is fully flushed and does not leave any chunks in the drain to potentially clog the drain. No issues so far mainly because I run until the unit sound quiet. Every kitchen should have a sink grinder or a very good strainer also so you don't have to discard food contents after washing dishes. Just turn the unit on and your sink is clear of food mess.

Great, Easy to Install Garbage Disposal

The InSinkerator Badger 5XP is a great, easy-to-install garbage disposal. You get just about everything you need in the box, depending if your are just swapping out an old disposal or doing a fresh install. I was just swapping out my old InSinkerator, so it was just an easy swap for me. Before going much further, I'll just say that I am no plumber, and I am only about as handy as your average homeowner, maybe a little less. So I don't know how universal the connection is on other disposals, but the fact that I already had an InSinkerator, it was a very simple swap. In all, it took less than 10 minutes. They have videos you can watch to help, but basically you use the little wrench tool they supply to help twist off the old disposal, disconnect all connections, and then do everything in reverse with the new disposal. My old disposal was 1/2 horsepower, and I'm guessing just whatever contractor-grade model they use when building new homes, so it was never the quietest or most powerful, but it got the job done. The Badger 5XP is right around the same noise level, but you can tell it is more powerful. So don't expect the quietest disposal out there, but just know that if you need a decent replacement for your disposal, this will be a great option that is more powerful than what most people probably have, but won't be any louder. Overall I am very happy with this disposal. It was very easy to install and works exactly like I was expecting.

Was extremely excited to get a new garbage disposal my previous was not very old but I feel it was working as good as when we first got it and it had become kind of loud. The InSinkerator - Badger 5XP Lift and Latch Power Series 3/4 HP Continuous Feed Garbage Disposal wow nothing negative to say since we already had one it made the installation process super easy & because I installed the old one I pretty much knew how to replace it, but it did come with awesome very easy to understand step by step instructions. I did decide to replace all components including the Falange cause I wanted everything to be new although if yours is good you don’t need to. It does come with a wrench tool that used to rock back and forth in case something gets jammed by accident which has happened to me in the past. It has connections so your able to attach a dishwasher to it, it does come with a in home warranty for parts & labor, which I always make sure to register all my products for those just in case we need it. It is made up of galvanized steel parts and a stainless steel grinder works amazing and the sound is a lot more quite then I had become use to, my best friend really noticed how quite it is and will be replacing hers with the same one. It doesn’t take up much space under the sink which I like cause of the storage space I use underneath my sink. Overall couldn’t be happier!

So upon receiving my InSinkerator Badger 5XP I just read the user manual and prepared my under sink for the install. I had to get some supplies prior to the install. The install took roughly 4 hours. Mind you that I am a computer technician not a plumber. So there was some trial and error in the install however, with patience and persistence, I finally was able to get everything connected properly without any leaking. I would say for someone who has more experience or has done these types of installs before would probably be able to do this in under an hour. My sink did not have a garbage disposal so this was a brand new fresh install. Overall, the unit is really nice. It has a stainless steel flange and is relatively quiet compared to other garbage disposals that I have heard. The unit send to be more than powerful enough to do light to medium disposal. This unit came with with a power cord which is a bonus as a lot of them you have to purchase this separately. Overall very happy with the product. I would definitely recommend it to someone who is looking for a straightforward install process and looking to spend less than $200.

I try to keep my reviews to technology-related products, but since I had a garbage disposal on the verge of death I decided to try out the InSinkerator - Badger 5XP Lift and Latch Power Series and now I get to tell you all about it. This review will be short and a little different than my other reviews as it’s not a tech gadget of some type. I’ll try my best to keep this short and sweet. I was able to swap out my old InSinkerator with this new one in about 2 hours. Most of that was because I had trouble removing the old one that the contractors installed. Putting int he new one was as easy as lifting it to the mechanism already installed and latching it on I tested for leaks after plugging in all the tubing and adding a little more plumbers putty on one of them to make it easier to slide back in and everything checked out okay. You’ll get everything you need in the box, but make sure you bring the required tools and maybe do a little stretching before climbing under the sink. You’ll be at awkward angles throughout the installation just to make sure everything is snug and tight. I was lucky enough to already have an InSinkerator garbage disposal, so my installation was extra easy, but it seems like it wouldn’t be much harder to install if you had a different brand of garbage disposal you were replacing. Overall I really enjoyed the installation experience as much as one can enjoy replacing a garbage disposal. This new Badger seems much more powerful and a whole lot quieter than the one it replaced. I’m very happy with how easy it was to install and I think anyone with average DIY skills would be able to tackle this in a couple of hours or less, from start to finish.

Grinds anything you put into it. This unit is very powerful and noticeably better than the one it’s replaced in my sink. I have never installed a garbage disposal before now and I gotta say it’s not that bad at all. The daunting part is usually running the electrical but since this model has a power cord attached, you don’t need to run any wiring assuming you have a 110v power outlet under your sink. That’s the setup you need to have to enjoy this garbage disposal. One other slightly difficult process was removing the old disposal as there’s not a lot of detail as to how to do this but online tutorials are your friend. Luckily there’s a lot of videos to assist with the removal and, if you need it, installation as well. The build quality can only be described as tank-like. This thing isn’t going to break easily. It will maim a stray fork that falls into it and will straight up destroy any plastic or silicone kitchen utensils so be aware of that. I highly recommend this garbage chewer and if you have a power outlet under your sink then this is a no-brainer.

I am no plumber nor have experience with plumbing, but I have installed my own dishwasher in the past, and installing this took me a little less than an hour. The hardest part was trying to do this on my own, but ultimately I had to ask my partner for help in holding the container while I tighten the screws. After the installation, there is not much to it. The grinder met my expectations and it really takes on chunky foods, although I would not recommend going above and beyond and letting it do that all the time. As most of you know, this is for whenever the sink gets clogged with food scrums but I wouldn't use it to purposely grind food I leave on my sink. I use a food catcher to catch the biggest food scrums. Overall, I would recommend this product because of the built quality and the warranty that comes with it to back it up. My partner was happy we replaced ours because our old once occasionally needed us to start it up again with an Allen key, and if you are starting to do that with yours, just save you the trouble and get this already!

Excellent value and pick-up was easy. I had a local contractor install it, he confirmed it was a quality unit.
