Worth the investment
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I run my robot a LOT. My floors have never felt so clean! Really durable and gets the job done quickly. I have dogs so I couldn’t keep up with doing the floors all the time but running the robot is so easy and effortless. Creating the map and assigning jobs are user friendly as well. You can even adjust the type of clean with multiple options. 10/10 would purchase again!! Saved my sanity as I love a clean house! If you are debating it, I couldn’t recommend it enough.

|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.iRobot - Roomba Plus 405 (G185) Combo Robot Vacuum & Mop + AutoWash Dock. It’s been a few years since I tried to use a robot to vacuum or mop our 2800 sqft home. The area to be covered, the mix of hardwood, rugs, and tile actually required a robot team as well as a complex homeowner strategy. This new all-in-one package from Roomba reduces the thinking necessary to create a cleaning regime and allows for one-place management. But, it does require planning and it comes with its own hurdles to cross, especially during setup. Once set up, I was more impressed by many of the elements of the feature set, if not all of them. SETUP: Day 1, the Troubles. Roomba needs some work here. 24 hours later, I could laugh about it, but day one? Issues included a Wi-Fi connection that took multiple tries, an update that failed repeatedly for hours, and a dock with a cord that was so loose I got blinking lights until I taped it down to make it more secure. (iRobot is sending a replacement) There was even a sticker hidden in the robot garage floor I didn’t discover for a few hours. Any one of these issues could have adversely contributed to the others. The app, however, is not informative about some of the errors in the setup, and even when it makes you aware of a problem, it has no way to solve it. The app is designed to walk the end user through a logical setup path, but when that path is blocked, it becomes unresponsive, sometimes hanging with a blank screen. Other times, it appears everything is OK, but the app requires repeated actions (Create a Map, Begin routines, etc.) when it is actually stuck in an error loop. As you discover later, after the faults are corrected, the app was hiding those next steps you don’t know were available. Reboots requested from the app or even Mapping requests never occur, and do not succeed at the robot though they appear to have been accepted in the app. Day 2, the Successes. Eventually, this all sorts out. Overnight my connection became rock solid, mapping requested using the robot buttons succeeded, and the app now revealed all of its previously hidden features. It’s tempting to say all is forgiven now that it all works, but these setup wrinkles need to be ironed out. I was unable to create the maps I show in my app screenshot. Mapping took minutes, improving greatly on previous experiences I’ve had with earlier robot vacs. The LIDAR technology does not need to touch surfaces, and instead captures obstacles, doorways, or wide-open spaces by scanning areas, not traversing them. The completed maps are very accurate. You can edit maps and assign areas that are out of bounds or need a special cleaning effort. A cleaning history is provided. PERFORMANCE: Once you are past the vexing startup issues, using the app becomes enjoyable. There are numerous ways to schedule the Roomba Plus 405’s features by creating routines. The routines are assigned to cards you subsequently select. So, for example, you can assign cleaning to selected groups of rooms, and then decide which features will be employed (mopping or vacuuming) singularly or together during the cleanup session. You can follow the mapping or cleaning in real time if you are really bored. Watching the Roomba in action reveals a well-designed navigation system, maneuvering that solves many home layout issues, and cleaning tools that come close to replicating my own vacuuming or mopping strategies. It improves on some. I certainly don’t methodically circle each bed or chair leg, but the Roomba does. It looks like a curious puppy chasing a toy. The Roomba never forgets to lift the rotating mops when it climbs my area rugs. My rugs stay dry. Vacuuming increases in power on rugs. The spinning sweeper is effective at capturing loose debris on my hardwoods. The moistened mops hold on to dust and leave no visible streaks on the floor. A map of the cleaning routine is created, showing the tight pattern of travel on wide areas, the somewhat more complicated cleaning where there are obstacles. The Roomba returns to the dock at more regular intervals than I expected, but those returns result in a frequent mop pad washing routine. I have not figured out if the the Roomba dock delivers water to the robot during those cleaning forays, other than these pad washing activities. A significant amount of water is involved in a full cleaning session. ISSUES OF NOTE: I covered the setup problems earlier. I found the overall Roomba Plus 405 robotic vacuuming performance to be encouraging and useful. I also think expectations need to match the inherent limitations with robot vacs, which do not reduce my enthusiasm for these tireless cleaning assistants. We have newer area rugs which are expected to shed lots of fibers for a few weeks of vacuuming. These excessive sheddings quickly filled collection bins and interfered with early robot cleaning sessions. It was also a reminder that robot cleaning bins are not comparable in size to manual vacs of any type. The Roomba Plus 405 is a very quiet robot vac, likely to occasionally scare you when it sneaks up on you. However, that docking regime for cleaning the pads, filling or draining the robot, is anything but quiet. We could easily hear it from a few rooms away. Speaking of cleaning the pads, you will want to be scrupulous about emptying the water collection bin with its dirty water. You will not want that sitting around for a few days. A spray of a disinfectant each time you clean it out is a reasonably precautionary measure. SUMMARY: iRobot’s Roomba Plus 405 represents a leap forward from the earliest robot vacuums. The design reflects realistic expectations from end users that the entire process requires less time and effort. iRobot has made the mapping very fast and accurate with much improved technology. It gets better at a higher price point, but this navigation technology truly works well. Editing maps is just as quick and more intuitive. Creating and selecting customized routines is so easy that you will actually do it. Really. Combining a vacuum feature with a companion mopping feature and having it work without a hitch was the big surprise. None of this is to say you don’t still have to be attentive to water changes or vacuum bin emptying. Your robot may clean up after you and your home, and it does a very good job at that. You still have to clean up after your robot. I can recommend the Roomba Plus 405 with the caveat that setup and initial glitches may be frustrating.

Make Room For The Roomba Plus 405
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My Experience with the iRobot Roomba Plus 405 Combo Robot + AutoWash Dock Living in a 2,300-square-foot home with our dog, keeping our hardwood, tile, and low-pile rugs clean can be a challenge. Between muddy pawprints, crumbs, and dirt tracked in from the backyard are constant, and with busy work lives, juggling work, dog walks, and family life, my wife and I have been in desperate need of some cleaning solutions that save time. The iRobot Roomba Plus 405 Combo Robot + AutoWash Dock, a vacuum-and-mop combo, promised to handle these messes with minimal effort. After using it for the past week, here’s my detailed take on its performance in my home. First Impressions and Setup Unboxing the Roomba Plus 405 Combo, I was impressed by its sleek black design. It looks more like a modern tech gadget than a vacuum, and the AutoWash Dock is equally stylish, blending into a corner of my living room without clashing with my decor. Its compact size keeps my space tidy, which is important in a busy household. Setup was quick and easy. I placed the dock on my laminate floors, and downloaded the Roomba Home app. In about 10 minutes, the app guided me through Wi-Fi setup and started the first mapping run. The interface is pretty intuitive, letting me name rooms, set cleaning schedules, and monitor tasks like filter health. For someone with a packed schedule, this straightforward setup was a great start. Navigation and Mapping: Organized but Not Perfect After app setup, the Roomba used its LiDAR navigation to map my 2,300-square-foot home. It navigated my living room, kitchen, bedrooms, and hallways efficiently, creating an accurate map with neat rows. I could set cleaning zones for high-traffic areas like the entryway, where my golden doodle leaves dirty pawprints, or keep-out zones around her water bowl to avoid collisions. The LiDAR works well in low light, making evening cleanings convenient as well. One of my friends, who owns a Roomba, stated that they had some issues with mapping during the initial setup, but I didn't experience any issues at all. To be completely honest I was impressed how accurate it was. The robot did struggle a bit with small objects like charging cords or Luna's dog toys, so I had to clear the floor before each run. This extra step was a bit frustrating, as I hoped for a more hands-off experience. Although once the map was set, it navigated flawlessly, sticking to my designated zones. Vacuuming Performance: Great for Daily Upkeep The Roomba Plus 405’s suction power is strong, easily handling the occasional fur from my low-shedding golden doodle, along with dust, dirt, and crumbs on my laminate and tiled floors. It automatically boosts suction on my low-pile rugs, pulling out dirt and debris from my living room carpet effectively. The single roller brush works great, rarely tangling with fur or small debris, making maintenance quick and simple. That said, it’s less effective with larger messes. Random small dog food spills or small pebbles from the yard often need multiple passes or a manual sweep. While it’s excellent for daily messes, heavier debris requires extra effort, which was a littl bit of a letdown when I wanted a fully automated clean. Mopping: Helpful but has a few small drawbacks The mopping feature is a key reason I chose this Roomba. Its spinning DualClean mop pads scrub away messes like dried coffee spills from my daily routines or pawprints on my kitchen laminate flooring, leaving the floor noticeably cleaner than my old manual mop. The pads lift automatically on rugs, keeping my carpets dry, which is essential in my mixed-floor home and was a worry at first. However, mopping has a few minor drawbacks. The pads return to the dock often to rewet, which slows cleaning in my larger home. The single water setting can randomly leave the floor too wet, and I sometimes wipe up excess water afterward, which feels counterintuitive for a hands-free device. Corners and edges are also challenging, often needing a manual touch-up to be fully clean. Note: This did not happen consistently during every use this week, but thought I would at least mention it. The AutoWash Dock: Convenient but a bit Noisy The AutoWash Dock makes maintenance nearly effortless. It empties debris for days, washes and dries mop pads, and refills the water tank for multiple mopping sessions. Its self-cleaning cycle keeps things hygienic, perfect for handling dirt and pawprints. This low-maintenance setup is a lifesaver with my wife and my busy schedule. On the downside, the drying process is noisy and takes hours, so I avoid mopping at night to keep the house quiet. The dock also uses more cleaning solution than expected, which could be a hassle with frequent mopping. Its size requires a dedicated space, so I had to rearrange a corner to fit it, but was not an issue. App and Smart Features: Useful but Glitchy The Roomba Home app simplifies controlling the robot. I can schedule cleanings, adjust suction levels, and use Alexa to start a kitchen run with a voice command. It also shows cleaning time estimates and filter alerts, helping me keep the robot in top shape without much effort. However, the app has issues. It crashed a few times on my phone this week, disrupting schedule adjustments. I also wanted more customization, like adjusting mop wetness, but those options aren’t available. Alexa integration is convenient but took longer to set up than expected, adding a minor frustration. Final Thoughts The iRobot Roomba Plus 405 Combo Robot + AutoWash Dock has simplified cleaning my 2,300-square-foot home. Its suction handles daily messes like dust, occasional fur, and pawprints, while the AutoWash Dock reduces maintenance tasks. The LiDAR navigation keeps cleaning organized, and the app adds control that fits our busy life. Its sleek design blends into our home’s decor, which is a nice touch. Pros: Strong suction for daily messes AutoWash Dock minimizes upkeep LiDAR navigation maps efficiently Sleek design blends well Mop pads lift on rugs Everything looks and smells great when finished cleaning with little effort Cons: Mopping can sometimes leave wet floors Struggles with small objects App crashes occasionally Noisy, slow dock drying High cleaning solution use Overall, I am impressed with how well it cleans and maintains our home and would highly recommend to those who want to free up some time in there busy life and leave the cleaning to the Roomba Plus 405!

Wonderful to Have Helping Clean the House
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve been running Roomba Plus 405 daily for a few days now, and while it's largely convenient, there are a couple of caveats. Here’s what I feel is necessary to share. Assembly was quick and easy. The contents were organized very cleanly and picture instructions were helpful. I got it together in just a few minutes. Keep in mind that Wi-Fi is necessary to get it set up, and practically everything is done through the app. Mapping is pretty reliable: the Roomba learned the layout of a 1,000 square foot space in seven minutes with its ClearView LiDAR technology. It even created a room for my patio when it looked through the sliding glass door, and that was impressive. For that "room", I simply don't have it scheduled or select it to clean, and so there's nothing to worry about. Navigation is smooth as it runs in straight lines whenever it can until it bumps into something. It can be a little challenged in tight corners, but this is true for any vacuum cleaner. I noticed it had made some random extra passes; while this probably ensures no spot is overlooked, it can feel inefficient. The dock is what the Roomba calls home and will stay here when it's not cleaning. It's a little large but not all that noticeable in a large space. As long as the home doesn't move, the map you have set up should always work, although moving furniture around would slow it down. Depending on the quality of mopping you select, the water tank can handle a little or a lot before needing to be refilled. In my case, it handled the entire first job and still had a little left before some spot cleaning. The lid snaps on tightly, and filling is easy as long as you use two hands. It's also easy to clean out. The Roomba does tend to leave a few crumbs at the base of the ramp, but this is easily cleaned. The Roomba Plus 405 shines when it comes to basic coverage and keeping floors looking clean. I have it set up on the first floor and covering about 1,000 square feet of hard floor and some rug. Using the vacuum and mop function on its first run, it took about one hour and fifteen minutes to complete. I have the rug area set up as a no-mop zone, too, which is easy to set up in the app. The floor dried impressively fast and the finish looked spotless . . . at least where it covered. After it was finished, I noticed it had missed a long strip of hard floor, and that's where I found another feature to make up for this. Its Spot Clean feature is a very convenient for those missed areas or wherever there is a small mess. It only covers an area of just over 3 square feet, however, and cannot be customized for stretches or larger areas. And don't mistake mop drying for mop cleaning after it's done mopping. The app doesn't make this very clear, and only after questioning why it was still cleaning the mop after an hour did I learn that it was simply drying (although I can't tell what it's doing to let it dry other than sit on standby). By default, this can take six hours to complete without intervention or setting to a different time. I thought I had encountered a bug, but no; it was just a misunderstanding. Battery life is solid; on its vacuum and mop run on the first floor, it was left at 60% charge. A few spot cleans later, and it was at 53%. It makes several trips back home to get ready for its next bit of cleaning, especially when mopping, and was likely using that time to charge. While it can take a while to complete a clean depending on how large the area is, it can do the job without having to rest. On the automation end, the Roomba Plus 405's automation is absolutely wonderful. I love being able to set up a full week's schedule based on typical traffic around the first floor. It isn't necessary for the floor to be free of clutter like random dog and human toys, or moved furniture; it will navigate around it. It'll even remember where those things are on its second visit during a Vac then Mop run. That said, the mandatory three‑hour gap between jobs can be constraining. I have automation set up by room, with the dining room getting the most cleaning and three automations running into each other on Friday, just before the weekend, to ensure we have a clean house for guests. But this will cause some conflict if it's running into other schedule. Not a huge deal, but having to wait three hours before it can move onto a new automation spaces out the jobs more than I'd like. Even if a job took fifteen minutes to complete, you'd still have to schedule the next one at least three hours from the previous job's start time. Some finer control like knowing how long a job might last in order to schedule with smaller gaps would elevate automation even more. On the downside, the front wheel is prone to dog hair getting caught in it, and cleaning it out is frustrating. The wheel is not easy to pop off in order to remove the hair from the wheel casing. The floor trim also picked up a few scuffs from where the Roomba bumped and turned, and they aren’t exactly easy to buff out. And keep in mind that it can't see and avoid liquid when vacuuming—it will just push it around, so it might be wise to know what's in the areas it's about to clean when it comes to certain messes; you won't want it doing this for thicker, stickier messes. And on a more minor note, whenever it's talking about what it's doing or where it's going, it can hardly be heard unless the room is completely silent. I trust it to do what it needs to do without me having to know, though, so it's not a big problem. The Roomba 405 is a dependable floor cleaner, with excellent mop performance and flexible app controls. Just be sure to watch it work occasionally and manage a bit of upkeep on the wheel if you have anyone in your house with long hair, and you'll come out with with consistently clean floors. It's been great letting the Roomba focus on the floor while we worry about other tasks around the house.

If you've been waiting to get a Roomba, DONT WAIT!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Roomba Plus 405 Combo Robot + AutoWash Dock is amazing. It comes packaged extremely well, with clear pictures on the packaging of the steps needed to put it together and get everything started. All you really need to do is take everything out, find a spot for your new robot and tanks to reside, and do a handful of tasks to get going. Flip it upside down, pop in the 2 mop disks (comes with 2 replacements), and the edge sweeping brush. The edge sweeping brush looks like a little propeller. Really couldn’t go together easier. Now to find a spot to set it up. You’ll want to find a spot out of direct sunlight, 4 feet away from stairs, close to a wall plug, and plenty of room around the base for the Roomba to turn around and back up into the dock for unloading, cleaning, and charging. You should also put it somewhere close to your home’s Wi-Fi coverage. There is a small removable plastic ramp that you’ll need to pop on to the base. (photo) There are 2 tanks that sit on the top of the Roomba base. There is one clean water reservoir, and a dirty water reservoir. You can add a compatible cleaning solution to the clean water reservoir. I didn’t have any so I just used hot water. You can’t mess up and put the tanks on the wrong side due to the design of how the tanks sit into their prospective hubs. It’s called Polka Yoke in the manufacturing world. (see photos) They’re physically made to only go into one side. Once you’ve got water in the tank, and you let the Roomba charge, pick up as much as you can on the floor and move obstructions as much as you can. For me, that’s dog toys, I swear my boxer is worse than a toddler. This is a super important step at the beginning so your Roomba can accurately map your different rooms. Doesn’t take long at all to map things out. Once that’s done you send your new little soldier off to work. This little guy can vacuum/mop… just vacuum, and there are settings for each function low/medium/deep clean. You can do just one room, a couple, or all. It will periodically return home to empty the tank of the dirty water, empty the vacuum. It gets rather loud when it returns to empty the vacuum bag. The vacuum bag is on the front of the machine, just flip the front cover down (photo). All the information to clean the Roomba and operation of the Roomba, is available in the iRobot app that you download. It’s all so user friendly. I feel bad for the Roomba cuz I’m so lazy sitting around while it’s going back and forth from room to base working it’s little wheels off. Talk about convenient though. I don’t see a downside to this little guy. It even cleans and dries the mop pads at the home dock, when it’s all done. It states to let it complete that process though, you don’t want to stop the mop pads while they’re in the process of drying. I highly recommend this to anyone and at the same time, I wonder why it’s taken me so long to give a Roomba a try!!!

Another Great Roomba
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me start by saying that I have been an owner of many robot vacs from many different manufacturers such as Neato, I Robot, Samsung & Shark. To this point the I-Robot Roomba Plus 405 has been a quantam leap in the day to day cleaning around my house. I was always a bit leery of the mopping function on a robot given the mixture of hardwood floors and thick rugs all over but I sure have been impressed soo far. It's fun to watch as you see the learning process and how it avoids things like my dogs, power cords, furniture and other items in its path with much more ease than my previous units. The roller brush system stays very clean and its much more efficient, I find it easier to clean and maintain compared to the older units. It maps your home and allows you to draw room boundaries, name your rooms and choose what rooms you are going to clean. I have two Maine Coon cats that shed big time and again the improvement in technology is wonderful. No more hair! . The self empty feature is wonderful and it's interesting that when the dirt container in the 405 fills, it scampers back quietly to its base and empties itself. Then amazingly it scampers right back to the spot it was cleaning and resumes finishing the cleaning. Same thing happens if the battery goes low. It scampers back to its dock and you get a message from the app that it is recharging with an estimate as to how long it will be before it resumes cleaning. Because it knows how much cleaning is left, you don't have to wait for a full charge too. I love that after it completes the map of your home shows the obstacles if any, that it encountered. The real show stopper for me was the addition of mopping since I have always had just the vacuuming feature. It has eased any worries that I had about mopping the small amount of carpet and any rugs that we have, it just stays away or will engage vacuuming only. I have to admit that whatever changes have been made to the mapping system in the 405 are fantastic, this unit maps my home quicker and more accurately than any unit I have ever owned, well done! It's quiet too. Much quieter than my old robots. My cats pretty much ignore it as it moves along the floor where before they would haul butt into another part of the house. Also noticeable is that it will turn off the vacuum motor when it is traveling to specific rooms or when it is returning to its base. It also seems to have an extremely powerful motor on the base to suck the particles from the robot, the thing sounds like an old school Kirby so just beware because it may scare you the first few times. The performance of the mopping function honestly shocked me when I went to empty the container of the used water, it was disgusting and I had just hand mopped the weekend before. The only thing that I will not say is 5 stars is the setup process/app which gave me a bit of difficulty in the beginning. It may be in part due to wifi on my end with sooo many IOT connections but even so the app could be more helpful in the assistance area, other than that I am totally pleased soo far!

Vacuuming and mopping in one package
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been using this daily to try out its functions and features and for the most part I am pleased with it although tome things could be a bit better. First off, this unit will not only vacuum your carpets but also clean your hard surface floors. Initial setup is straightforward, just make sure you download the correct app (the classic app didn't work for me). Setting up the main unit you will need to add water to the clean tank and make sure you remove all the shipping tape. Once the unit is ready to go you will have it map your floor space. It does a pretty good job of creating a floorplan. Once that is complete you can modify the map to your liking. Since my floorplan is open it created one big room so I was able to split it up into four smaller rooms. Once that was complete I was able to set a schedule for when to clean each room. I started with the vacuuming feature and it did an exceptional job even picking up some things my prior vacuum wouldn't. If cleaning a large area and it starts to run out of power, it will return to the dock, recharge and then pickup where it left off. Since the until vacuums and mops, it know what surface it is on and adjusts accordingly, it won't use the mop pads on carpet. As for mopping, it did a good job on my tile but on the hardwood, you could see the occasional spot where it didn't overlap from the previous track but did do a respectable job of cleaning. The unit uses just water for mopping and I'm not sure if any cleaning/polishing solutions could be used. When mopping was completed it returned to the station and cleaned the mopping pads and emptied the vacuum. Will I still have to mop or vacuum on occasion, sure but this keeps that down to a minimum.

Decent mopping and vacuuming robot!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Robot vacuums have come a long way. At the head of the spear, one name has always been involved. That name is iRobot. In this latest version of the Roomba comes a vacuum that not only sucks up debris, but also mops your floor as well. The whole setup is fairly self sufficient. The vaccuum comes out of the box with everything you need to get started. With very minimal assembly, you can pretty much snap a few pieces together, plug it into the wall, and add water to the reservoir. The tower is pretty neat. On top, it has a clean water tank and a dirty water tank. Below that is a compartment that holds a debris collection bag. Nestled beneath that is the robot vacuum itself. Where it rests has the function of charging the robot, as well as cleaning and drying the two circular mopping pads attached to the bottom of the robot. Now, once it is charged and ready to go, the app on your smartphone allows you to get things going. The robot vacuum will first aimlessly explore your home and create a rough map. You can edit the map to divide it up into rooms. Once this process is done, you're ready to clean! The robot does a very good job of navigating and cleaning my house. I specifically like how it vacuums the edges of the room before vacuuming the rest. The mopping feature is nice as well. The vacuum sweeps and mops at the same time, or you can set it to sweep, then mop. It automatically lifts the mopping pads when it detects carpet, however, if you have thicker carpet it may get a little moisture on it. I didn’t find it to be a big deal. My only complaint about this robot vacuum, hence the four stars, is the lack of a water reservoir on the robot itself. The robot must regularly return to the base station to wet the mop heads throughout the entire cleaning process. This I found to be slightly annoying. I wish it had a way to carry water and keep the cleaning going in one trip. Once it is done cleaning, the robot vacuum returns to the base station, where it cleans and dries the mop heads. People looking to purchase a mopping robot vacuum should understand that this in no way completely replaces traditional mopping of your floors. It does, however, allow for a relatively clean floor in between mopping. You can also purchase an approved floor cleaner to add to the water tank. I would highly recommend that because if you choose not to purchase the approved cleaner, your floors are only being scrubbed with water. All in all, this is an effective cleaning maching that helps keep your home in better shape in between your regular cleaning routine.

Excellent household addition, home automation
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Roomba is amazing. Very easy to setup out of the box and get going. The tank system has the clean and dirty water containers, as well as the bagged Hepa filter for emptying itself. Initial setup is done through the app from priming the system for its first run and performing the mapping of your home. Mapping of your home does not take long at all, but will vary by the size of your home. Once done, the system will perform its first cleaning and from there you’re off to a nice healthy start with automated home cleaning. The supply tanks are large to clean your entire home without having to refill. As the unit cleans your home, it returns home (its base) as needed to clean the mops pads, as well as empty itself when needed. The first cleaning does take quite a bit to clean your home as it verifies the map and updates as needed. The more the unit is used, the more familiar with your home it becomes and performs cleaning very well. There is an extra set of mop pads that are easily swapped after cleaning as they use a Velcro system. The bot is controlled through the app and everything you need to know and do is done within the app. The one main thing I have seen change is the loudness of the robot, it is now quitter than it had been in the past with previous models. The iRobot has done some initial redesign of the robot as it is smaller than it was before. Going back to the home automation piece, we have ours setup to clean through out the day when no one is around and just after our evening meal to ensure the house stays clean. We do our own deep cleaning based on our schedule. Overall, we are very happy to say this is a highly worthwhile investment for our family due to how busy we are at times and this helps out a lot.

This iRobot is myRobot and should be yours too!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The iRobot Roomba Plus 405 Combo vacuum and wash with docking station. I have owned several models made by two brands of robot vacuums (all purchased with my own money from Best Buy!) over the years and to date the best have come from Roomba's iRobot series. For the last 1.5 years our iRobot j7+ has been working hard keeping the carpeting on the first floor of our home clean as can be! Prior to that it was our iRobot Roomba i7+ which is now upstairs and has been working in our home non-stop for over 5 years now! To say that we are familiar with and rely on these vacuums is an understatement. When I bought the i7+ my wife was skeptical about a self-emptying robot vacuum but after learning the first floor layout and keeping it clean for the first week of ownership she was SOLD! I also bought and gave an iRobot Roomba 690 to my brother and his wife and it has been in their home working tirelessly for well over 7 years now! Fantastic? YES!! So when I had the opportunity to test out this new iRobot Roomba Plus 405 Combo Vacuum & Wash with docking station I was thrilled and eager to give it workout. I first downloaded the Roomba application for this new series of iRobot Vacuums, logged in to the account and set everything up. This only took minutes to do! The new Roomba Plus 405 is without a doubt the best mapping and vacuuming iRobot I have to yet to use! I installed it upstairs alongside the i7+ for a head to head comparison of their cleaning abilities. Suffice to say that the new Roomba Plus 405 is vastly superior to the i7+ in every way. Mapping our upstairs layout took roughly 15 minutes and then it returned to its charging station and sent the message that it was ready to clean. The Plus 405 Combo uses the BEST version of LiDAR I have used on a robot vacuum. LiDAR stands for "Light Detection and Ranging" and believe me, it is outstanding in use in the real world! Each upstairs bedroom as well as the hallway were quickly and efficiently mapped out and given a temporary name which you change if you so desire. After mapping and being fully charged, I had the vacuum go on its first cleaning mission and told it to "clean everywhere" and it did without a single mishap. The LiDAR performed beautifully with the Roomba Plus 405 Combo navigating around obstacles in bedrooms and the hallway with ease and carefully cleaning along the base of the bookcase in the hallway as well as cleaning to the edge of the stairs without a single mishap! It went to the edge of our staircase and did not have any "tip-over" problems but simply and safely navigated and cleaned the carpet at the edge of the top of our stairs! Once done the unit returned to its docking station to empty its dustbin and recharge for its next mission! The docking station's dustbin comes with two dust-bags, one installed and a spare next to it in the compartment. They are easily accessed under the folding down front cover of the docking station and thankfully use the same replacement bags as do my other 2 iRobots! It also uses the same efficient tangle-resistant center vacuum roller as my i7+ and j7+. OUTSTANDING! Speaking of which, the i7+ is now going to our daughter's home and the Roomba iRobot Plus 405 Combo will be taking over the upstairs vacuuming duties for the next several years! As I said in the beginning, I have purchased several Roomba iRobot vacuums at Best Buy over the years and this newest version is the best yet and I cannot recommend it enough. My wife and I are both seniors and I am physically handicapped and the iRobot line of vacuums have been a tremendous help to us over the years. I am a retired Electronics Technician and can attest to the ease of maintenance on these vacuums. I keep them and their sensors and charging points clean and replace the rollers and brushes as needed. In fact, the robots themselves will also alert me when they "think" they are in need of replacement parts and I simply verify if they need a cleaning or it is time to replace them with new ones. The j7 still has the ORIGINAL battery and it works as well as new but when the time comes to replace the battery it is easily accessed and done in minutes and I have no doubts about the quality and durability of the new Roomba Plus 405 Combo given that it is an iRobot! So is the iRobot Roomba Plus 405 Combo that good and easy to use and care for? Yes! Is it fast and efficient? Yes! Is it a quality made product that should last for many years of excellent service with proper care and maintenance? Yes! Do I highly recommended it without hesitation...YES!!

Robovac+mop to help keep your space clean
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Roomba has been my go-to vacuum for several years now. I have always looked at these models with a tank to swap out the dirty water and refill with a fresh water to continue it's mopping. In the box you get the Roomba Plus 405, the auto wash dock with the tank attached and two bags to empty what is collected from vacuuming, the little spinning bristles to collect while vacuuming and two sets of Mop Pads. During set up, I was initially using the iRobot app used by my previous vacuum, the app did guide me to download the Roomba Home app which I was able to sign in and set up my Roomba. Set up is pretty straight forward as you're simply following through the prompts. After the update I allowed the Roomba to create a new map of the house. Not 100% if I could have reused my old map, but I opted to simply create a new since a few things had been rearranged. Once all of the setup was done, I let the Roomba run a cleaning in each area, there is a Vacuum+Mop setting which it ran, and it seemed to do well. I then created my scheduled cleaning with this Roomba and opted for the Vacuum then Mop option. This has each room vacuumed, then mopped, as this runs while no one is home it's only bothering the cat. The cat is always curious, but the new Roomba has continued to work with the cat watching, they seem to be getting along fine as new roommates. I did forget to refill the tank with fresh mop water one day, whoops! With the Roomba in a waiting state, it wasn't allowing me to cancel the cleaning or do anything that I could find. I was eventually able to get around it remotely by rebooting the Roomba under robot settings. I then manually started a vacuum task. With two kids and a pet, the robot vacuums have been a great help at keeping the floor clean. I don't treat this as 100% replacement for a manual cleaning, but the Roomba has been a great help at keeping the floor clean of dirt (living in a desert) plus and spills the kids didn't do that great of a job at cleaning. The water tanks for the mops is a great addition for us as we don't need to worry about removing the built in tank on the robot anymore!

A Game Changer for Smart Mopping
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve spent time with plenty of robotic cleaning solutions, but the Roomba® Plus 405 Combo with its AutoWash™ dock stands out for three reasons: intelligent mopping, precise navigation, and a truly intuitive app experience. I have a robotic vacuum on each floor of my home – and this one has earned the main spot on the first floor as it is the most used and also has hardwood floors. Unlike hybrid robots that just drag a damp pad around, the Combo 405 uses adaptive pressure mopping that adjusts based on floor type—whether it’s tackling tile grime in the kitchen or gliding over sealed hardwood. What impressed me most is the AutoWash™ Dock, which cleans and dries the mop pad automatically after every run. That means no post-cleaning bacteria farm, and no musty mop smell. The robot is smart enough to lift the mop pad when transitioning onto carpet—no soggy area rugs here—which makes it ideal for mixed-surface homes. Setup was a breeze. The robot mapped a 1,500 sq ft area in just two runs. Its PrecisionVision Navigation and LiDAR-based mapping make it shockingly accurate, even remembering where furniture shifted between runs. You can name rooms, set no-go zones, and assign targeted cleans with remarkable precision—say goodbye to that dusty corner under the coffee table. Bonus: it cleverly avoids pet bowls and stray socks—yes, it spotted a crumpled sock and detoured like a pro. The iRobot app may just be one of the cleanest interfaces I’ve seen in smart home tech. With just a few taps, I created a multi-room cleaning schedule, assigned specific mopping intensities per room, and set up automatic dock maintenance. Real-time progress updates let me watch its path like a digital cleaning ballet. Final Verdict The Roomba® Plus 405 Combo + AutoWash™ is more than a floor cleaner—it’s a well-designed daily routine optimizer. For anyone who values hygienic mopping, responsive mapping, and app control that doesn’t make you want to throw your phone, this robot delivers with confidence.

Intuitive but sometimes falls short in cleaning
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The iRobot Roomba 405 Combo was very nicely packaged so unboxing and setting up the components was easy to do. The boxes had finger holes, and even the base unit was in plastic with handles, which made lifting everything out of the box a breeze. Attach the plastic ramp to the base unit and snap the two cleaning pads and the brush to the robot, and assembly is complete. It comes with extra cleaning pads, but a nice touch would be for it to come with an extra dust bag and a bottle of floor cleaning solution as well. One of the reasons I can’t say I love this Roomba is the accompanying app can be a real pain. Installing the app itself and connecting the robot to the internet only took a few minutes. (Sidenote, it’s best to use the included QR code to be sure you install the correct app for your robot.) Beyond that, though, using the app ends up being an irritation and rather annoying. After connection, the robot needed to update, and the app ended up stuck on the install screen. I finally had to restart the app. The app is also a phone battery hog and freezes a bit too often. Mapping (learning the floor space) is not the most accurate but with some effort, you can edit the maps to better define the areas you want cleaned. The Roomba 405 can be programmed to mop and/or vacuum and is intuitive enough to remember where it left off whenever it has to return to base to empty itself or rewet the floor pads. Its auto-sensing technology can tell the difference between flooring types and uses the vacuum or mop function accordingly. The vacuum does an okay job on carpet but struggles slightly with some of my rugs. Suction is surface level and doesn’t pull deep from the fibers like I’d like, even when set on high suction. The mop feature doesn’t get the floor too wet which is good, especially for my hardwoods, but it does seem to just move the dirt around instead of picking it up so I still have to sweep and mop. Being able to set up Keep-out zones and spot cleaning are appreciated features though. And I like the self-drying pad drying feature once the robot docks, even though it’s louder than a vacuum cleaner. Overall, the iRobot Roomba 405 Combo is smart and intuitive and has great potential with some tweaks and a much better app, but it hasn’t saved me as much time with my regular cleaning routine as I would like.

Good combo robot for the money.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall I am pleased with this product. It does a pretty good job of both vacuuming and mopping for my use case. I have mostly hardwood floors with some area rugs. I can set it to vacuum and mop and it does a pretty good job of detecting when and where to mop. The vacuum is a little on the noisy side, so having it run at night while trying to sleep is a bit of a stretch. Its my first vacuum that maps the house, overall I'd say it does a good job, coverage is good.

Great vaccum clunky design
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the ease of use on this product. It works decently well and has a lot of features i enjoy. The only downside is how clunky and loud it can be ive had errors on this device of mop heads tangled and when i pick it up there is nothing there. Also the loud empyting of bag and mop head cleaning is a great feature if you have this in a room you won’t be in. I love the ease of spot cleaning my house until im ready to mop myself but ive had times when i program it to do my Bathroom and hallways and when i walk in my babthroom after the job is finished there is still dust and it has visibly not been mopped. All in all use this for cleaning your house until you need a deep cleanse great timesaver.

iRobot Review
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently upgraded to this unit, and I can’t say enough good things about it. I have two dogs, and this robot does an incredible job picking up all the small debris, pet hair, and dust that used to build up daily. The suction power is strong, the navigation is smart, and the mop function leaves the floors spotless and streak-free. It’s made keeping my home clean so much easier—definitely worth the upgrade and highly recommended for pet owners!
