Customers are saying
Customers are enthusiastic about the Roomba 890's cleaning performance, ease of use, and effectiveness in removing pet hair. Many appreciate its simple setup process, although some users found the navigation system needed improvement and reported issues with battery life and noise levels. The small dustbin size was also a common complaint. While some found the virtual wall helpful, others felt it could be improved.

OK Product- Not so Great
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.WiFi function Doesn’t work with 5G internet. So essentially useless. IRobot product seems to be overrated. Cleans just OK. navigation is truly primitive (I am not even a techie), It moves randomly and cleans unequally. Very disappointed.

Good performance vacuum, but not too smart
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. While I was writing this review, I have to admit that I developed mixed feelings about this device. There are pros and cons that you have to take in consideration when you are deciding which model to buy. iRobot is a company that has been in the market for 27 years, and 15 years ago they developed the IRobot Roomba Vacuum cleaner, they were practically the pioneers in this technology along with Electrolux and Dyson, and they improved it more and more over the years. With that being said, I am pretty confident on the quality and reliability of this unit. The setup is very simple. Just following the instructions, you take out a couple of pull tabs, place the unit into the charger base, install the app, register an account, set up the Wifi, but first you have to pressed a couple of buttons on the unit and have the Wifi light indicator blinking, that means that is ready to set up the wifi . Then , in the app, you discover the unit, and after you have set up the wifi on the app, that it will automatically update the Software if it is required, and the wifi indicator on the unit will become solid. To have the battery fully charge will take a little bit more than 3 hours. Once the charge is complete, you can either start the cleaning by pressing the button of the unit, or through the app. The app is nice and very simple. You can assign a name for the unit, check the status of the filters, the job history, the number of cleanings. There is also an option that allows you to locate the robot, by generating a beeping sound. You also have to register your account in the I Robot Roomba Web page. Now, the battery last around one hour, and the unit cleans the floor very well. It can differentiate between carpet and not carpet flooring and changes its suction accordingly. I was worry about the round shape of the device because I though this unit was not capable to clean the corners. But it has a side brush that is constantly spinning and is designed specifically to cover the cleaning of the corners. Once the robot is running out of battery, it returns back to the charger base station by itself. I have seen that there are other reviews complaining that this unit does not return back to the charger base every time. But I think that is because, the charger base is not located in the place or area that is suggested in the manual, that you can find on page #3. For me every time that the device needed to return to the charger base it did it with no problems. To clean the dust bin is very simple. Also, this unit comes with an extra filter, and a virtual wall barrier, which it is useful if you want to prevent the unit to get into a specific area. To run a cleaning cycle, you just press the clean button of the unit or you can use the app, even if you are not at home, which is an advantage. The low profile height allows to the unit to get into below practically any furniture I have at home. However, there are some, let say cons, about this unit that is important to take in consideration. I have a Google Home, and according to the manual, you can link your Irobot app account to the Google home, then talk to the google home and give verbal instructions to the i Robot. Unfortunately I was unable to link my Google Home to the iRobot app, even if I followed all the recommended steps. Another thing that I noticed, is that this unit doesn’t have a map navigation, or to resume job after recharge. So when I checked the web site, the model that comes with that option is the 980, which is twice expensive than this one. So what you will have is a device that is going to bumping randomly in the room, there is no guarantee that it will cover the cleaning of total area. So to recap, the unit is powerful as a vacuum, but not too smart to do a total clean of your home, since it is uncapable to map the area, or to resume a job, if the area to clean is big. Probably works fine, if it is a small area like an apartment with not too much furniture inside

Great Robot Vacuum - Cleaning Pattern Sporadic
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall the Roomba 890 is a great robot vacuum. It does a great job picking up pet hair and general filth off the floor: hardwood, tile and carpet. Having the Roomba app controlled is great. It is very easy to set and/or adjust the cleaning schedule or start a clean on demand. It is nice to be notified when the bin is full and needs to be emptied. My only negative on the vacuum is the sporadic path the vacuum takes to clean the floor. It will sometimes travel back and forth all the way across a room while cleaning. Seems like this would reduce battery as it travels all the way across a room and then return back to the original side. Would like to have seen smarter tech to map out a room overtime and have the vacuum travel the most efficient and effective route to clean and save battery. Overall though, the device cleans well. Recommend if you have pets and/or hardwoods.

Can replace some vacuuming, not all of it though
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm not entirely sure what to make of the iRobot Roomba 890. On the one hand, it's nice to have this little guy zipping around the first floor of our house, keeping dust and dirt from building up. On the other, it's not really smart or effective enough to replace all of our vacuuming, and I just can't figure out why anyone would find the WiFi/smartphone connectivity all that useful. First, I'll talk about setup, which was very quick and easy. The Roomba 890 comes assembled, I just needed to remove some packing materials and plug the charger in. Installing the iRobot smartphone app and connecting to the device was easy, too. There's one included barrier device that works in one of two modes. In virtual wall mode, it emits a beam in one direction, and Roomba will not cross the beam. This is good for blocking off a doorway or closet, etc. In lighthouse mode, the beam goes all the way around, and Roomba stays several feet away (think of a dog bowl up against a wall or some other similar obstacle). Anyway, the barrier has batteries included and was super simple to set up. Next, cleaning: After a few hours of charging, I hit the big round "Clean" button on my iRobot app, and Roomba was off and running. It's a bit noisy, but quieter than a full size vacuum cleaner. As it bounced around our home, I realized that while Roomba 890 has sensors to help it avoid obstacles, it doesn't really have any idea where it's going. It seems like it just goes until it bumps into something, then spins around to a random direction, then tries again. If you're expecting smooth, straight lines back and forth across your room, you'll be a bit disappointed. The random bumping and spinning exercise continues for about an hour until the battery runs low. At this point, Roomba decides that the job is complete and begins to find its way home. This is just a continuation of the random bump and spin dance, except now it's looking for the infrared homing beacon. This is a lot more effective in one big, open room than in a space with walls and large obstacles that prevent it from seeing the light, so to speak. So far, Roomba has found its way home 5 out of 6 times. The other time, the battery died before it could get there. I will say that while cleaning, the Roomba picked up just about everything, transitioning smoothly from our floors to the rug and back, and its ability to get under furniture is super helpful. Given that this model doesn't really map out where it's going, and considers a job "complete" when the battery runs out, it shouldn't be a surprise that not every part of our floor gets covered on each job. Each time out is something different, and so far there are a few corners that the Roomba hasn't yet visited. Maybe with the right combination of bumps and random turns, it will get to them soon. It's not ever going to replace all of our vacuuming, but I'm optimistic that letting this run every other day or so will do a good job of light upkeep and prevent things from ever getting too out of hand. After each job, I've had to tend to the dust bin. Not really because the bin is full, but because Roomba *thinks* the bin is. There are sensors inside that need to be wiped down often or else they falsely report that the bin is full. Not really a huge hassle, but a bit frustrating. Finally, I'll talk about the WiFi connectivity, smartphone app, and home automation integration. These all really seem like a novelty to me. Sure, it's nice to be able to start and end the cleaning job from the app, or using our voice-activated home automation speaker (Google Home, Amazon Alexa, etc.), but even easier to just walk over to the Roomba and tap the big round button on top. Overall, I think this will make our lives a bit easier and our home a bit cleaner, especially under furniture like sofas and chairs. Still, it won't replace all of our vacuuming, and tending to those dust bin sensors may get old after a while.
