Customers are saying
Customers enjoy the Roomba 980's impressive cleaning performance, ease of use, and smart navigation. Positive feedback also highlights its effective pet hair removal, strong suction, and convenient app control features. However, some users find the robot vacuum to be noisy and have noted that the dustbin fills up quickly. The relatively high price point is also a recurring concern for some customers.

Downgrade from previous models
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had the Roomba 890, which as the time, was the latest and greatest model and did an excellent job. When the 980 came out, the biggest thing that made me want to upgrade was the fact that it was app-based. That meant setting/changing schedules was incredibly more simplified and when it shouts out random error codes (like you actually know what these means), you can simply go into the app and it explains what the problem is. The biggest issue I have with this model are (1) the collection tray seems smaller than the 890 and I have to empty it after almost every cleanup job. (2) It is incredibly louder than the 890 - iRobot explains that this is due to a new enhanced suction mode for carpet, but suction on both carpet and floors seemed to have taken a step backwards and at times, simple things like pieces of paper (from my paper shredder) get knocked around the floor instead of picked up. The biggest con is that they made a HUGE deal about this model being smarter and not knocking into appliances, etc. as much. I don't know which model they were comparing that too, but out of 30 jobs, only 13 completed. Most of the time the Roomba finds its way into weird spaces and jams itself into them (usually under the couch, for example) or it runs around ignoring the fact that its low on battery and dies randomly somewhere in the house. For reference, the 890 rarely ran itself out of battery. And to also didn't get stuck at all and I have the same furniture and I had NONE of the "fences" for the 890, yet even after buying two fences for the 980 it gets stuck all the time. I'm contemplating selling this and just getting a Dyson, as the new Cyclone V6 Absolute is $100-$200 cheaper (depending if its on sale or not) and the suction and cleaning is supposed to be better. I guess that old adage is true - if you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself.

Long Time Running, Hardly Any Results
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After 8 + hour of elapsed time (3 time re-chargiong), the vacuum had only cleaned 850ft of area! In a 2,800 Square foot home, that is unacceptable. (This was according to the app on my phone). The vacuum got caught twice. Once on a Carpet in the powder room and once in a confined area under a piece of furniture. Had to manually go and find the Roomba and extricate it so it could start cleaning again. What a waste!!

The 980 Model - It Actually Works as Advertised!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It Actually Works as Advertised. - The 980 Model Navigates every accessable inch of the House. The battery lasts about 100+ minutes, and it takes 90 minutes to recharge, so it's going to take a few (3) trips to the charger, to clean the entire house (it resumes where it left off!). - The design, intelligent software, and rugged effective hardware driving this iRobot 980 Model has Finally made this robotic idea a serious product, that is worth having. - If you have Dogs (that shed) like us, and mostly hardwood floors, this model is really worth the $$$. - This model automatically increases it's performance whilst it's on any carpets or rugs. - We already have a Great Dyson and an upscale Electrolux Vacuum, but it's pretty cool not having to break them out all the time, to consistently have clean floors! Note: If you have dogs that shed, you need to clean the bin on every cleaning trip, because this rig works, and the bin does not hold a lot, and it picks up a lot of dog hair, even when the floors really do not seem to need cleaning just yet... I have my Roomba set to 'pause', when the bin is full (so I can empty it) - the default setting is set to first finish the current cleaning job, even if the bin is full.

Not worth the money
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was really looking forward for the vacuum but it gets stuck so often I need to constantly watch it which beats the reason why I even bought it, it does not help me save time.

Cleans better than my vacuum cleaner.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Our first experience with Roomba caused a lot of laughing. We had read the manual and put it to work. Then the laughs turned to aggravation. As with most things we buy, we had to experience this thing and learn all is not explained in the manual. The first thing I learned was the best way to clean the dirt collector. I used my vacuum cleaner with a crevice head. One can see the filter but by just shaking it over a trash bag will not get it clean. The vacuum did an excellent job. Our home is all on one level and is fairly large. I placed the dock in the dining room and started the cleaning. Our hardwood floors were never this clean and the floors stay clean longer. It was less obvious with the rugs but I'm sure they are cleaner too. I expected Roomba to go from room to room until it was finished, but it would enter each bedroom and leave without finishing. We can't just leave it run because of the noise and we like to relax and watch television. The manual said it would remember where it stopped and return when started again to finish. This is not the case! With some exception, it starts all over again and cleans what had just been cleaned! I finally decided to place the dock in the bedroom, erase the prior memory, start it and shut the door and leave it. I did this with each bedroom and it worked. To sum up, it cleaned the dining room, living room, study, half bath room, guest bathroom, kitchen and laundry room along with involved halls. The bedrooms had to be done as described above. It gets under beds and tables but occasionally gets stuck under a recliner. It then lets one know the problem so one can free it. Since I learned how it really works, we love it and sometimes talk to it as though it were a child who needs help.

3 year life span
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Loved this vacuum when worked. I have owned it for almost 4 years. Over the last year I have been getting error 15 almost every time I try to use it. I have had to do reset on it before it would run. Now it won’t reset. Called the service line like it suggest and they tell me the only thing that can be done is to purchase a new one! $950 and it lasted less than 4 years with using it only one time a week. No other options no other help from them to repair it. Just that it can’t be repaired because it is an internal error!

Not worth the money
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Does a great job when cleaning, but keeps stopping because of "cloud" issues, keeps saying full after i empty it. You have to clean the sensors frequently. For the price it shouldnt have this many issues

Do not buy if you have wool rug
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We have 3 C&B wool rugs that allow beater bar on highest pile. I set the roomba to clean on eco the lowest power it has. After 3 days our house looked amazing but our rugs were ruined. Pilling on all 3 rugs that are all less than a year old. Spoke to roomba- they had no suggestions and did not offer to help correct issue. I had spent hours researching this product before purchasing and no where does roomba warn you about possibly damaging your rug. Very sad- left with $4000 I’d ruined rugs and a returned roomba.

Not our first Roomba
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We just purchased this after owning the 600 series model for a few years and I have to say this one is very impressive. The vacuum suction is variable which saves on run time. On our hardwood floors the vacuum is fairly quiet but on the carpet you can hear and feel the power. My home is 3000sqft single floor and the old roomba could maybe tackle 500-700 sqft but this one got the whole house. It systematically maps out the house and if it can't finish the job it returns to the dock to charge up to finish. I am also impressed how it navigates with the camera. It does a much better job cleaning under the table as it doesn't rely on bumping to know there is a chair leg in the way. The app has features like a bin status for when to clean out, battery status, and a locator for when and if it becomes stuck somewhere. Scheduling couldn't be easier now with the app where you can set the time and day via the phone instead of the unit. So far very impressed.

The best yet from iRobot
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've owned a 400 series, 500 series, a 700 for about a week. After owning the 770 for a week, I decided to upgrade to the 980, I am sure glad I did. The mapping technology that iRobot has implemented into this model is what makes this a complete vacuum replacement. It gets everywhere! It even knows which rooms it's been in and which to go to next, mapping your entire house, very cool. The vacuum is simply amazing, saves my injured back, and my wife time, especially with a toddler running around. The 980 is definitely worth the upgrade, scheduling and controlling from my phone is a plus. The build quality is superb as well. Very pleased with my purchase!
