The vacuum/mop combo is a game changer

If you are looking for a budget robot vacuum/mop this is a great deal. To be honest I was a bit confused on how it was going to work but essentially it is an iRobot but with a small water tank in the waste bin and has an attachable micro fiber cloth that fits on the back half of the bottom of the robot. You do have the option of just using it as a vacuum only but there is no option to mop only. When running it with the mop function make sure you have the tank filled. The guide recommends cool water only which I was skeptical of but there are no streaks at all on my hard wood floors. I will mention that this robot just goes wherever but remembers where is been but there isn’t any way to block out areas like some of their higher end robots. I had to put a 2x2 under my entertainment center to stop it from getting all tangled up in my wires hence the reason for a star deduction. The mopping pad is shaped like a crescent moon so if it rolls over a wire or cord those points grab it and get it stuck. After “wire proofing “ my first floor I love it. I vacuum every day with a cordless vac and I was so surprised by how much stuff was in the bin. I also used a spay type microfiber mop, not anymore. This replaced my cordless vac and spray mop. So glad I got this!

    Good Starter Robot

The iRobot Roomba Combo Essential Robot Vacuum & Mop is my first vacuum and mop combo so I was looking forward to trying it out. Took the Roomba out of the box and followed the instructions that was inside the box....the instructions was only two pages long. Since I already owned a Roomba, I checked the iRobot app and the app has the detailed step-by-side instructions the for Essential. I made sure I put the Roomba together correctly and then let it charge up prior to using it. Once charged, I let it run to test it out. This Roomba cleans in what's called a "bounce pattern". Basically, it goes around the room in a straight line, until it hits something (a wall, a table, etc.), then it will turn around and clean the other way until it hits another object. By the second time it returns in the same area, the Roomba will slow down to anticipate hitting another object. This Roomba does a good job cleaning, but the fact that it can also mop the floor, having a mapping feature on the robot would be more helpful in regards to make areas with rugs and carpets as a "Do Not Enter" zone. The mopping feature is nice and the floor is clean after it runs. It you choose to mop and you have runs on the floor, you will either pick up the rugs or stay in the room and block the Roomba, or put things in its way to avoid getting the rugs wet. My other issue with the Roomba is that you have to manually empty it after each use, but I also understand why it's not included based on the price. Overall, it's a nice starter Roomba and if you all non carpet areas in your home, especially if you don't want to pick up the rugs when you chose to mop.

This is the product of a mature company. iRobot has been in the robotic vacuum cleaner space for years now and this product shows it. I will call this "Essential" model a robot vacuum for the masses. Not only does this robot vacuum, it also mops - decently. Nothing is going to beat a good old fashioned mop and bucket, elbow grease-backed scrub down, but this robot can do a nice job maintaining an already mostly clean floor. That is really the use case for these robots. To maintain and not do the first cleaning job as it won't be a great cleaning just using the robot. I like to clean and mop my floor first and then use the Roomba for routine cleanings. I find this method the best practice and run the Roomba mostly when I'm away to come home to my floors in the state that I left them in. Since this unit can vacuum and mop at the same time, it's best to remove any rugs and have it avoid carpet while the mop attachment is on. This kit does not have the very handle waste bin to dump all your trash out when it's finished so when you do get home, be prepared to manually empty the robot after every cleaning. It's not that bad and up until recent models, that was the only way these robots worked. You had to empty them. The Essentials Roomba uses the Roomba app and you can schedule cleanings and get your firmware updates using it. This Roomba also integrates with Alexa and Google Home as well as Apple's offering though I was unable to test the latter. This Roomba really is a robot vac/mop combo for anyone wanting to to join the Roomba remote vacuuming era.

These smart vacs are a really nice upgrade to your place, regardless of whether it's a house or apartment; carpeted or not. Having used a few different models over the years, these are a great way to keep your place clean without having to lug the monster vacuum out everytime. Also really handy if you have pets. At first glance, this is your "typical" smart vac. There is no self-emptying base with this unit so you'll have to manually empty the dust bin from time to time. This one is a dual purpose vac in that it mops as well as vacuums. For most applications, I think this is fine. There is an attachment where you can put on a cleaning pad (this comes with 2 cleaning pads) and attache it to the underside of the unit. Fill up the tank and the unit will basically drag a damp cloth around your place. For the most part, this is pretty good in that you're able to get surface stains out from your tile/hardwood floor without needing to get your standard mop/bucket. Doesn't do any deep cleaning but does a decent job at getting any spills or minor stains out.

Great proof of concept with some limitations

This is a great product, like most any that I've tried from Roomba. My general feeling about it, however, is that it is more of a proof of concept than a full-fledged product. PRO: It's cool that it can do both a mopping and a vacuuming. Having this option means that I can just use this with my vinyl plank flooring as well as my carpeted bedroom. The app connectivity is very easy and it is nice that if I'm away from home and think of it, I can just go into the app and have the roomba run while I'm away. I don't have to remember to press the start button prior to leaving, or creating a complicated schedule of when I anticipate being away. CON: I say this is something of a proof-of-concept because it can do the mopping, but it doesn't sense when to mop versus vacuum. When setting up the app, it shows you that you need to block off anywhere you don't want the roomba to go when mopping. Physically put furniture in the way to stop it from going onto an area rug. This is OK, definitely not ideal, for a small space like a 1-bedroom. If you have large areas, you'll have to roll up rugs or move a lot of furniture. You also cannot really start the mopping if you just recall while away from home. Yes, you can direct it to do so through the app while you are away, but you need to make sure the mop attachment is on and moistened prior to running. It is recommended you do not keep this attached if you're just vacuuming. Further, they recommend emptying out the used water shortly after running. This means it's probably not good if you're going to be running around all day, or working in an office. As a vacuum, it works as well as you would expect from a premium line like Roomba. As a vacuum/mop combo, there may be some additional work required before it's as easy to use as it is as just a vacuum.

I've owned several robot vacuum cleaners and am not new to ownership or use of them. I have never had a Roomba and was excited to test this. I was underwhelmed. First, the instructions were useless - if I were new to this type of product, I'd be lost. Print is tiny and almost impossible to read with glasses. Instructions are also wrong. Before you even do anything with an app, you should plug in the vac to the power supply (which has no power light to let you know it is actually working) and then charge the vac prior to use. This also has the vac where it can be picked up immediately once you download and to install the app. If you install the app like you are instructed to do, you can't access the vac since it will still be in the overused white bags that cover everything in the box. Vacuum is odd in that it only has one horizontal brush - another brand that is likely even less expensive than this model that I bought on Amazon, has two to bring in items into the main brush. Oddly in the packing container, there is apparently an area for a second brush, but when you turn the vac over, it has only one area to attach a brush. This alone downrated the product by one star. It should be noted you cannot even see instructions on the app until you actually install the app and connect it to wireless and to the vac! This is backwards! Product will talk to you so don't be surprised. One thing this thing will not do is to tell you the debris holder is full. If they went to this effort to make it notify you of an error, why not indicate the holder is full so you can stop the machine and enter. I wasted half an hour with it riding around doing nothing but moving. Machine is also much worse than average on how it does its job. Compared to the current less expensive brand that I have, this thing seems trapped in an area that is wide open and it just repeatedly does that area instead of moving on. I repeatedly had to pick it up and to move it to another area. This vac has some sort of "mopping" feature that is really a joke. It is effectively an attachment with a cloth that you install to the bottom and a place for water to be added. This was remarkably ineffective and pointless and adds no value to the vacuum at all. The overall travel time of the vacuum was no worse than the cheaper brand that I owned nor was it better in length of use. Highly disappointing product. I would recommend you buy something else.

This Roomba is, in my opinion, aimed at entry-level users of a robotic vacuums. While it's nice that it has mopping capabilities as well as vacuuming, it is not "smart" in the sense that you can have it mop or vacuum based on surface detection. Instead, you are left setting it to mop *OR* vacuum, and instructed to *manually block off* carpeted areas with obstacles when you want it to mop your hard floors. Not convenient at all, which is why we have robot vacuums anyway, right? Convenience? Control is done via an app which is nice, but very minimal - only "vacuum and mop" or "vacuum only" and even then it's the *entire area* that the bot can get to. Which leads me to the next point, this botvac is only good for smaller areas as its dust bin fills up otherwise, and there is no included emptying station. So, you're left with decreasing collection on your floors as it goes on. I would estimate, depending on level of cleanliness, you could get max 1000sqft out of this thing - doing daily scheduled cleanings - before you're filling the dust bin and losing efficacy.

Have pets? You NEEEEED one of these! We have 6 indoor cats and recently lost our 18+ year old dog. The hair alone justifies daily sweeping, but dirty feet, wet food and water dribbles, upset stomach messes - they all add to the need for mopping as well. Who has time to sweep and mop every single day? Definitely not us. Add on top of that the need sweep extra around the litter box for litter that the cats track out of it. Then one day some absolutely brilliant mind got the iRobot Roomba to the level where it is today - sweeping, mopping, intelligent. We let it do it's thing daily while we're at work and come home to a wonderfully clean floor. I really couldn't ask for more! NOW - that having been said - had we still had our dog (RIP!) , that's a different story. These robotic vacs become poo distribution systems should the dog have an accident on the floor. I've heard there have been advances in avoiding feces on the floor, but I really don't want to risk it - one bad experience with dog excrement several generations of robotic vacs ago having been spread throughout the entire living room is enough for one lifetime! Of course, your mileage may vary! There may be other brands out there that do the job, but you really can't beat an iRobot - the original!

I love these little robot cleaners they really help save time when it is time to clean the house. They help keep the surface dirt under control allowing for faster deep cleans less often and that time saving for is totally worth having my house taken over by my robot overlords. This one I'm using in and around my kitchen to help clean up the tiny spills and messes you make in a working kitchen it's daily roam in mid morning really helps minimize the work I have to do to keep my kitchen clean especially since most of the house spends a. Large amount of time in there, plus these things amuse the doggies as they watch the little robot move around cleaning the kitchen. Will this replace your need to clean, no, but as I said it makes it much quicker and less frequent to break out the mop and bucket or steam cleaner. Overall iRobot has this down, setup with the application and options was very easy with no hiccups. Walked you through what you needed to do and got the robot off and cleaning very fast. I love this little guy and the time savings it provides. Highly recommended for anyone.

As someone who appreciates a tidy home but loathes the monotony of daily cleaning, I find the Roomba Combo Essential Robot Vacuum and Mop by iRobot a sound solution to my dilemma. This device is a 2-in-1 vacuum and mop, promising a thorough clean with minimal effort on my part, and frankly, it has lived up to most of its promises. Setting up the Roomba Combo Essential was simple and mostly effortless. Straight out of the box, it only took a few minutes to get everything running. The iRobot Home App was helpful, guiding me through the setup process with easy-to-follow instructions. Once set up, I could customize cleaning schedules and even set it to clean while I was away. Coming home to a freshly vacuumed and mopped floor without lifting a finger felt like a luxury. The Roomba Combo's performance is impressive. Its four-stage cleaning system, which vacuums and mops in one go, saves significant time. The edge-sweeping brush is a game-changer, reaching into corners and along baseboards where dust tends to collect. Additionally, its smart navigation ensures it moves in neat rows and avoids obstacles effectively—a stark contrast to the random patterns seen in older robot vacuum models. However, it does have its drawbacks. While the Roomba handles standard dirt and debris on hard floors and carpets well, heavier spills or more stubborn stains might require a manual touch-up. Also, the noise level during operation is noticeable. It can be a minor annoyance if you're at home while it's cleaning, but it is just something we have to live with when it comes to any vacuum device you decide to use. The Roomba Combo Essential is an excellent option for those who want to lessen their daily cleaning tasks. Its smooth and stylish design, intelligent features, and practical cleaning abilities make it a valuable investment for any smart home. The compact machine's convenience of having both a vacuum and a mop will meet the needs of many. However, traditional methods may still be necessary for those with specific cleaning needs.

    Great spartan combo unit

I have a variety of Roomba products including self emptying vacuums and the dedicated wet or dry mop braava jet m6. I will say the Combo Essential does not open as well as the braava jet m6, but it is still a winner. Self emptying vacuums are great until the self emptying noise which sounds like an airplane taking off causes your baby to wake up and cry or interrupts your work from home calls. I say this because self emptying is cool but it does have some drawbacks, mostly the noise. Now the Roomba combo essential is not self emptying and is a spartan approach at an all in one solution. The combo unit detects areas where it would fall and adjusts accordingly while systematically cleaning the area. The combo unit knows if you want it to mop when you have placed the mopping mount on the underside of the robot. In order to mop effectively you need to remove the dustbin area of the mop, look for the blue tab that has a water droplet on it, open and fill the bin with water. Once done attach the mopping unit onto the underside of the robot and your ready to vacuum and mop. In the app you can choose if you want low, average, or an ultra amount of water moistening the mopping pad. You also can select the suction level. From there you can start the combo unit from the app or physical on the robot. The cleaning level of this combo unit is effective for areas with hard floors that tend to get dirty fast. For us that is the dining room, kitchen, and guest bath area. The combo unit effectively vacuums and mops good enough for daily cleaning but not good enough to make someone feel like the house has gotten a deep cleaning. Dirt is consistently pushed and missed by the spinning corner brush on this unit but the space and time savings are worth it. With every all in one solution there is a drawback, in this case that weakness comes when you have rooms with a mixture of carpet you don’t want mopped and hard floors you want mopped. If you have an area rug that you want vacuumed surrounded by hard floor you want vacuumed or mopped, you will need to go into the map and set up different zones when you decide to mop. You can easily remove the mop pad and have the Roomba vacuum only and then put on the mop pad, but I am lazy and most likely won’t be doing that. That’s why this combo unit is great for hard floor areas such as dining room, kitchen, and the living room (if there is no carpet or area rug). If I am contemplating getting a combo robot and I don’t want to break the bank I would seriously consider this unit. If you want a self emptying variant, that will cost at least 4X more.

    Goofy

We've affectionately nicknamed this Roomba "Goofy". The first time we ran it through the upstairs, it did OK, but had a few problems: It would get stuck on the legs of an office desk, get tangled in cords we forgot to move out of the way and simply bounced into everything it could as it found its way around. But it still completed its task and returned home. On the second run, after about a minute or two of it running, I hear a loud CRASH. The poor kid didn't realize those were stairs (it figured it out fine the last time) and crashed down a whole flight - with the dustbin coming off and spreading dirt everywhere. OK. I cleaned things up and put the robot back together. To its credit, it's a tough one and was able to recharge on its dock and retry. This time it kept bumping into its charging base to the point that it rotated it to where it couldn't dock again. Alright, so I fixed that. Afterward, Goofy finished up the floor, after getting stuck between the legs of a side table. The poor thing needed some regular oversight - ironic for an automation device. Once done, it returned to its dock and seemed to ask me, "Daddy did I do good?" So, aside from its sometimes goofy behavior, it did a good job vacuuming. The mopping of the hardwood floor was simple, yet worked as long as the stains weren't heavy. Plus it easily linked with Alexa and I can start/stop jobs through that system. The app is also pretty simple, but works fine. I wish it would tell me what areas the robot has covered, but there's no mapping or location tracking - not surprising at this price point. The robot can sound a little clunky...and we hear it banging and flopping over whatever it finds. But its vacuum power still seems on point. Honestly, the little quirks give it a personality.

It's a full Roomba with all the "essential" features, and smart home support and worked ok but it does not have the mapping feature and misses a lot of spots. $80 more for the i5 model gets you smart mapping, virtual barrier support, and cleaning in rows. Realistically think the i5 is the true Roomba for budget minded folks. I returned this one and got the i5 and couldn't be happier
