    Great Mop/Vacuum Combo!

The iRobot Roomba i5 Vacuum and Mop Combo is a great smart vacuum. It's suction is great for such a compact vacuum. After unboxing, I put the vacuum parts together. Make sure that you look underneath all of the cardboard for parts that you may have overlooked. I placed the base up against the baseboard making sure there were no obsticles that would prevent the iRobot from docking. I then downloaded the iRobot App from the Google Play Store. I installed the app, the app found the robot and it was ready to go. Using the robots Imprint Smart technology, I ran a map of the areas of my home that I wanted cleaned on a daily basis. This took a little while to complete. Using the app, I programmed the iRobot to clean only one room. I switched out the compart on the side of the vacuum. I used a regular floor diluted with water. When I finished mopping I emptied and cleaned then air dried for next use. It does a decent job mopping if you have light traffic throughout your home. Overall this iRobot i5 is a very good robot vacuum for a small uncluttered home. Would recommend.

Overall decent. It takes some time to learn the route. It may take a few software updates for it to get to the point that you are looking for. Solid suction and will suck up fairly large things if left in its route. Don't worry when it jams it shuts itself down and you just remove the item and restart it, no issues so far. When the battery runs low it returns to the charger to recharge itself. It does not get along the baseboard, leaves a gap. It can be loud on hard floors, but is quite over rugs. It can send you notifications on your phone to let you know when it has completed its job. You do have to switch the tray if you want to to mop versus vacuum so it isn't just going to do everything on its own. It is nice to have the option. The recovery bin could be a bit bigger, but overall reasonable size. Make sure you have a decent internet connection so it can easily run its updates, otherwise you are likely to be frustrated since those were required to get it on the right path. Overall decent buy.

    Tradeoffs with Combo Vacuum/Mopping Roomba

The iRobot Roomba Combo i5 is a combination robot vacuum and mop. It allows one device to replace potentially two which seems like a great idea. One issue I've had with using a separate robot vacuum and mop is that vacuuming and mopping about 1500 sqft of space can take a long time to complete on just the vacuuming step alone and as you'd like to mop after the floor is vacuumed, the only good times were either starting later at night or on a day where everyone would be out of the house for most of the morning and afternoon. As a result, mopping did not happen as often. The robot itself looks pretty similar to other Roombas. The finish on this one is a bit different, perhaps to convey it also has the mopping capabilities. Looks, build, and finish-wise, it seems the same as other offerings from iRobot - well built and robust. This one comes with the standard flat charging base, a vacuum only bin, and a vacuum and mop bin. Setup is pretty straightforward and after charging it up you're good to go for the first of several mapping runs. Technically, you can have it vacuum/mop and map at the same time but if you want a map so you can isolate specific rooms to be worked on independently, doing mapping runs will help speed things up. For this i5, took 4 runs to get a map. I did three mapping and one vacuum/mop which went surprisingly faster than when I'd done vacuuming with the i3. I'd later figure out that the robot seems to spend less time with the vacuum/mop attachment versus the vacuum-only one which apparently turns on some additional dirt seeking features in addition to being compatible with the base that can vacuum out the robot (you need to manually empty the vacuum/mop bin yourself). This being said I'm still on the bit on the fence on the simultaneously vacuum and mop action. The mop is positioned so that it is in the "back" and so the floor is mopped after the vacuum hits it. But my past experience is that especially when it's been 3-4 days since last vacuum (house with 3 young kids), the Roombas really need their normal deep clean pass to do a good job before you'd want to follow with a mop. This one isn't' any quieter than the i3 so I'm still constrained to only running it when people are well asleep or out of the house. Part of wanting to map is that by splitting my main floor into three rooms, I could setup cleaning that would ensure a particular room could be completed in a given period where the robots were free to roam. So, with the vacuum/mop combo, cleaning the entire first floor in one pass running starting later at night is feasible - no complaints about the noise. The downside is there are areas that don't get that clean due to the mop just dragging debris that didn't get vacuumed up around. The behavior after mapping still needs improvement - the Roomba still wants to do some "exploring" at the boundaries of room if there's no actual barrier where you drew a wall. If you let that happen and it opens up into a larger room, then it will actually just clean that larger room. So I'm still needing to make sure I put up the baby gate (which we already had in place anyway) to help keep the Roomba from wandering into the pantry area. Long term, I think we'll see if this one lasts. On the one hand, I can potentially run it more often so the mop/dirt issue may go away - though it still requires a lot of prep work to ensure legos and other small toys aren't getting vacuumed up or jammed in the rollers. Not being able to have the base auto vacuum it to clean it is also a minor annoyance though the need to refill the tray with water or cleaning solution means there would always be that manual interaction with the Roomba. The app does let you know when things are getting full/low so perhaps those with smaller areas to clean can get by with only needing to interact every 3rd or 4th run.

NICE CLEANER - IROBOT ROOMBA COMBO

I have been quite pleased with the performance and cleaning capability of the iRobot Roomba Combo i5 Robot Vacuum and Mop! This isn't the first robotic cleaner that I own, but it is the newest and has the added capability of MOPPING after vacuuming. First off, this machine is much heavier than the others that I own. It operates the same but this COMBO ROBOT device has a much better cell phone app than the others. It was simple to create a new account and setup the device with the app. The COMBO ROBOT was very responsive to the setup done on the app and has been easy to quickly start using and modify the schedule. The vacuuming is equal to and a bit better than my other devices. It is simple to change the setup of the device from vacuuming to mopping. The actual operation of the mopping is ok and does a "surface" cleaning but it is for LIGHT cleaning only. If the hard surface is a bit more dirty, then I think these robotic devices are not the right tool to use. The COMBO ROBOT was quick to learn the cleaning area and did a good job of cleaning the entire area with rare "repeats". This is a good improvement from earlier devices. Overall, I think the COMBO ROBOT does a good job for automated cleaning, but for mopping, you need to be present. I would recommend the COMBO ROBOT!

This Vacuum is Impressive, but not at first!

When we first set up our Roomba Vacuum for the first 2 days we were not impressed. The vacuum seemed to have no rhyme or reason to how it was cleaning the house. We thought this was counterintuitive because the vacuum ran for almost 2 hours and just had sporadic coverage at best. We read that that the Robot was supposed to create a Smart Map, but it wasn’t until after the 3rd day did this map finally show up. Once the map was visible, we could define the different rooms as well as name each room. This was really starting to change the way we saw this. Once the Smart Map was created and all our rooms were set up, we started making favorites, such as kitchen, living room, dining room, bathroom etc... This means now we had the option to just send the vacuum on a cleaning mission for just the room we wanted cleaned! It also meant we could start setting schedules for certain days of the week and for specific rooms we wanted cleaned on that day. Honestly, this is one of the coolest gadgets I own right now. It’s truly the future. Performance seems good. I would say it gets about 95% of the debris on the floor within the room it is cleaning. The Roomba i5 does a great job going under our TV stand and end tables. This has always been a struggle to get all the dust under these pieces of furniture because they are low to the ground and have a very small opening which the vacuum just slides right under. The first time we saw this we knew this was a good decision to get this vacuum. The Roomba also does a great job around the edges of a room or furniture. It hugs the corner while methodically sweeping and sucking up debris. Watching it do its this you just can’t help thinking to yourself, this is Awesome! The vacuum also does a great job transitioning from hard floors to carpets. It lifts itself up when it must roll over something or if it gets stuck. One tip I would say is to make sure you lift all wires and cords off the floor in a room where you’re going to have this cleaning. In our experience we never had it suck up a cord, but it has pulled a wire or two and you’re always nervous when it happens that something will get damaged. So, we just prepare the room quickly and then send it on its cleaning mission. The Roomba has been doing a great job so far and its nice to walk around and see the floors clean pretty much all the time now. We have a dog so the floors get dirty quickly on a daily basis, but not anymore! Some Negatives: • After the vacuum has created the smart map, you would think it wouldn’t go beyond the boundaries of the map, well that’s at least what we thought. There were two rooms which had a lot of obstacles and wires, and when we were creating the map, we kept those doors closed to those rooms in hopes of not being able to include them in the cleaning routines. Well to our surprise, even though those rooms are not on the map, if the doors are left open when cleaning a nearby room, the Roomba did make its way into those rooms, and we had to pick up and place it back outside of the room. I was kind of let down by this, but it’s a simple fix to just keep those doors closed when the vacuum is nearby. • Mopping is one of those things that seems really cool when you’re watching the promotional videos by Roomba, but in practice I feel it’s more of a hassle than a benefit. To use the mopping feature, you must switch out the dirt bin with the combo bin after you have filled it up with water, and somehow put barriers around ANY area rugs you might have to stop it from going over the rug with the wet mop pad. Note: This is also what the app tells you to do. This to me is a HUGE failure. How are you supposed to stop the Roomba from going over all your area rugs? We have them in almost every room in the house. That means the mopping feature is useless to us. We just can’t use it and I feel that iRobot SHOULD warn people that “there is no way to prevent the Roomba from going on your area rugs with a dirty wet mop pad” somewhere on the box or in the first sentence of the description for the Combo models. So, if you buy this for the mop feature, I would give it 2 stars. To be honest it doesn’t even MOP well in our experience. We did see it go over some dusty areas and it didn’t really do that well, so we will be using it just for the Vacuum feature in which it does a great job. So I’m going to wrap this up by saying if your looking for something to automatically vacuum your living space to keep everything 95% clean while your tending to other matters, I say it does an AMAZING JOB and to give it a try. The technology of it mapping out your home is really cool and we think you’re going to love it…..Just have some patience for the first couple of days.

I’ve had several robot vacuums, and for some reason, I also felt like I could find something equal to a Roomba without getting a Roomba. Don’t ask me why, and I’m finally convinced that Roomba is the first and best robot vacuum on the market. In terms of design, functionality, and useability, I’ve found that the Roomba is at the top of every list. Now throw in the iRobot mop combo and it’s kind of magical. Make sure you follow the initial setup instructions for registering, pairing, and syncing. Then you’re set to use one of the best executed functions on the Roomba, mapping. The other robot vacuums I’ve tried just can’t seem to get the mapping function right. The Roomba though, it learns your home’s layout and that’s especially important if you have carpet and hard floors since you have both the vacuum and mop in this Roomba. You can only create one map though, so keep that in mind. And then the best part, it cleans! It actually sucks stuff up! You know, not like some robot vacuums that just push stuff around the house. It reminds of the old I Love Lucy episode where, “It slices, it dices…”…except the Roomba actually works. I’m sold on Roomba and as someone who hates vacuuming and mopping even more, I will never go back.

My Roomba does a wonderful job on both my wood floors and area rugs, even in the corners, and on the plushy, heavy shedding wool rug. The only reason I didn’t give her five stars is her dustbin is kind of small. But since she actually picks up the dust, unlike my previous robot vacuum, I’ll take it.

The iRobot Roomba Combo i5 Robot Vacuum and Mop - Woven brings whole room/home floor cleaning to you without the need to break out a broom or mop, or call out for maid services while you are away. The iRobot Roomba takes on the tough work while you are away, at home, or asleep cleaning your floors by vacuuming and mopping. The iRobot comes with smart technology to memorize your floors and rooms to ensure it doesn't miss the hidden corners, yet not finding itself high-centered on cords or stuck under the coffee table. The app ensures you can send the iRobot out whenever your floors need a little extra TLC or to set up a regular cleaning schedule. I found the iRobot Roomba Combo i5 Robot Vacuum and Mop - Woven to be good at it's job. We have one dog that seems to shed its weight in fur daily. The iRobot tackles this mess and helps us keep up with the daily grind. The mopping feature works well but the overall mopping capacity is a bit small for the whole area we need to cover. The only thing this is missing is a way to empty itself after each vacuuming. PROS - iRobot's design, build, and innovations - Offers both vacuum and mopping in one - Battery lasts to cover your whole house in most cases - Smart technology to help clean and return to dock without errors or mishaps - Effective for in between deep cleanings CONS - Must empty the tray after each use which can get a bit cumbersome, especially for busy people on the go.

Duality is Key with new Combo Vac/Mop

I recently welcomed the Roomba Combo® j5 Vacuum/Mop into my home, and I must say, it's nothing short of a revolution in the world of automated cleaning. I have had two other robot vacuums, and for years have always wished there was a robo-vac with a wet mop to replace my Swiffering. The day has finally arrived and I am impressed how the device seamlessly combines the efficiency of a robot vacuum with the convenience of a mop, cutting down my cleaning regime significantly. FEATURES: · Dual Functionality: Combines robot vacuum and mop capabilities in one device. · Smart Navigation: Adapts to various floor surfaces and maneuvers around furniture. · Performance: Vacuum function picks up dirt, dust, and pet hair. Mop feature wipes surfaces clean. · App Control: Mobile app for easy scheduling and monitoring. Notifications for full dustbin or when it's time to change the mop water. · Connectivity: Seamless integration into smart home systems (Alexa, Google home, etc.). · Battery Life: Impressive battery life covering multiple rooms on a single charge. Automatic recharge and resume feature for continuous cleaning. · Efficient Cleaning: Thorough cleaning on various floor types, including hardwood and carpets. Set “no fly zones” on app to dictate where your robot should or shouldn’t clean. · Time-Saving: Reduces manual cleaning efforts, saving time and effort. Set custom schedules for automated cleaning sessions. · Automatic Recharge and Resume: Returns to the charging dock when the battery is low and resumes cleaning once recharged. INCLUDES: 1. Roomba mop/vacuum itself 2. Charging Dock 3. Power Cord 4. Removable Dustbin 5. Mop Compartment: A compartment for holding the water and mop attachment during the mopping function. 6. Mop Attachment: Mop accessory for cleaning and mopping hard floors. 7. Water Tank 8. Cleaning Tools: Tools and brushes for maintaining and cleaning the Roomba Combo® j5, including a brush cleaning tool. 9. User Manual: Instructions on setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. 10. Warranty Information PROS: · Dual Functionality: · Combines vacuuming and mopping in a single device. · Smart Navigation: · Sensors to map navigation around obstacles and furniture. · App Control and Connectivity: · Compatible with voice assistants for hands-free control and allows easy scheduling and monitoring of cleaning sessions. Works well with my Alexa app. · Battery Life and Automatic Recharge: Impressive battery life covers a majority of my home on a single charge. · Automatic recharge and resume feature for continuous cleaning · User-Friendly Design: Intuitive controls Sleek and compact design. · Time-Saving: Reduces manual cleaning efforts, saving time and effort for users. · Customizable schedules for automated cleaning sessions add convenience. · Versatility: Suitable for various floor types, including hardwood and carpets. This is great because I have hardwood floors with lots of floating area rugs, so it can go back and forth between the two functions. CONS: - This version does NOT have the self-emptying dustbin. If I could do it over again, I would have prioritized the self-emptying to further automate my cleaning routine. - Water Tank Capacity: I wish there was a larger tank, but then the device would have to be bigger. The price you pay for sleekness, but I do sometimes wish it went further. - Noise Level: Although not as loud as my previous generations of robot vacuums, there is still a good amount of noise. - Occasional Navigation Issues: My device gets stuck or “confused” sometimes in more dense areas of the house. Every once in a while I do have to pick it up to “save” it. - Limited Deep Cleaning: While the mop and vacuum function is appropriate for handling light vacuuming or mopping tasks, it will never replace a manual deep cleaning. I like to use my Roomba for regular cleaning a couple times a week, but I still have to pull out my stick vacuum or Swiffer every once in awhile for a deep clean. For big messes, I can’t depend on the Roomba to get everything to my liking. It will never fully replace my stick-vac, but it is a welcome addition to make life easier and more automatic. - Learning Curve: It took some getting used to with the wet to dry. It takes a few tries to get an understanding its navigation patterns and setting up cleaning schedules and mapping certain areas. - Size and Obstacles: There is always the task of picking up the area to ensure that the coast is clear for the vacuum. If not, it can get stuck in a sticky situation and need my help to reset itself. Although the size is shallow, it can’t fit under my couch, but it does get in most hard-to-reach areas. Limited Wet Mopping Control: I wish there was more control over the wetness of the mop. The Roomba Combo j5's mop doesn’t allow for adjusting water flow or customizing the wetness level for different flooring types. CONCLUSION: In my experience with the Roomba Combo j5 Robot Vacuum and Mop, I've found it to be a game-changer in home cleaning. The seamless integration of vacuuming and mopping, coupled with its smart navigation system, has made my cleaning routine incredibly efficient. I appreciate the device's ability to adapt to different floor types and the convenience of controlling it through the user-friendly app. It's saved me a significant amount of time and effort. While I've enjoyed the versatility and advanced features, it's worth mentioning that there have been occasional navigation hiccups. Although it will never fully replace my stick vacuum or Swiffer mop, the Roomba is an integral part of my regular cleaning routine. Despite these minor drawbacks, the Roomba Combo j5 has become an indispensable part of my household cleaning arsenal, providing a thorough and convenient solution. If you're looking for a time-saving and efficient cleaning companion, this robot vacuum and mop combo is certainly worth considering.

On the whole, I really like this Roomba and think it's a significant improvement on prior robot vacuums I've used. However, that doesn't necessarily mean it's for everyone. Is it right for you? Read on to find out! If this is your first robot vacuum, there are few basics you need to know. First, regardless of what anyone tells you, these are not a substitute for a human with a good upright or cannister vac. They just aren't - they can't "see" dirt and target it, they have a hard time with tough spaces and whatnot. (In this case, since it's a mop as well, I'd extend that to say that they aren't a replacement for a human with a mop and bucket for the same reasons). They don't "scrub" or "dig in" to get that deep ground in dirt. And if your floor / place is particularly dirty, they'll fill up fast and this model doesn't self-empty (unless you buy the add-on self-emptying bin). They do nominally make some noise when they run - though in my experience less noise than a normal vacuum - so this is something to think about if you work from home, you won't want it running near you during the day (though it could be running downstairs if you're working in an upstairs office and you wouldn't hear it). So all that said, what are robot vacuums good for? Generally, I find they're good for either smaller areas / places and/OR they're good for maintanence cleaning between bigger cleanings. In that role of keeping things tidy enough to get by, robot vacuums can excel. And as far as robot vacuums go, this is a pretty great one (I told you it wouldn't all be negative!) This Roomba incorporates a camera and memory on top of the base sensors so that it can create a virtual "map" of the space that you set it up in. This mapping trip (the first trip around that it makes, it doesn't vacuum, just maps) and then subsequent updates let it clean much more thoroughly and efficiently than most other vacuums I've tried. While it still has a hard time with tight spaces, it does just fine with cleaning most spaces and does well to avoid / go around obstacles and furniture. You'll want to pick up a bit so there's no so many things for it to avoid (otherwise it might skip areas of your floor), but generally with either the vacuum or the mop it will keep your space reasonably tied between major (human) cleaning jobs. It does fill up somewhat quickly (though in the maintanence role, it's picking up less than if it's your ONLY cleaner, so it doesn't fill up as quick), so if you find that it's not finishing your space on a regular basis, you might want to invest in the self-emptying add on. The mop is pretty cool as does a decent job (again, at maintanence cleaning, not heavy duty scrubbing) but I do wish that it warned you when it was empty of water - it doesn't seem to be able to sense that. I'll probably mostly use it for dry vacuuming, as dust and whatnot are the main things that I want it to pick up in my space and it does a good job of that. The Roomba is easy to put together (it's really mostly set up, you just have to snap the drip tray onto the charging base and set the Roomba on it - the app setup is just about as easy as well, and the whole thing is easy to use through the app. Do note, you need Wifi for it to connect to and you must use the app to control it. If you want something that can be used offline or has a physical remote, look elsewhere. So all in all, where does that put you? Well, if you're the sort that likes to deep clean every 2-3 weeks (or perhaps you have a cleaner that comes once or twice a month) and you want to keep things clean in between, this can be a great choice. Likewise, if you have a smaller space (though still enough room for the Roomba to move around), then this could also be a great choice. And finally, if you just like gadgets, this is a fun one to have around. Just don't expect it to replace a human cleaning service and you'll be set - if you're ok with that, give it a try today!

The iRobot Roomba i5 has some benefits, but it also has many flaws. The Roomba i5 is both a vacuum and a mop all in one. To my surprise the i5 only has one spinning brush on its side, yet there is an empty hole on the other side where another brush should be. I’m not sure why this is…The box also includes a water tank attachment for the mop, a microfiber mop cloth, an extra filter, and a plate for the i5 to dock on. To get started, you have to install the iRobot app. Through the app is where you control everything, such as setting cleaning timers, selecting areas to clean etc... Setting up the i5 is very simple, the iRobot app walks you through the setup process, making it easy for anyone to understand. The first time the i5 runs, it has to map out your floor. I didn’t want the vacuum to go into every room, so I closed a few doors in the house. The mapping process is accurate, but it did have some hick ups along the way. For one, it kept trying to go under one of my recliners only to keep getting stuck. Then there were a few times that it didn’t realize there was a wall in front of it and kept trying to go through it (this was both disappointing and hilarious at the same time). After it was done mapping out my home, the results were pretty accurate. With my home mapped out, I was able to run my first cleaning. The i5 didn’t seem to learn from the first time and got stuck under my recliner again, even after having to push it out, it kept trying to go under it again…It took the robot 40 minutes to clean a 271sq ft area. So, my results are in…While it did clean my floor pretty good, it took a long time. And if I wasn’t in the room, it would still be stuck under my recliner until the battery died. Another issue I have is there is no sensor to tell the vacuum when the trash bin is full, it just keeps trying to vacuum not really collecting anything. The mop feature doesn’t clean the floor that well, as it’s just a microfiber cloth and water that brushes the floor. Unfortunately, this won't replace my mop. Overall, I think robot vacuums have come a long way since they first came out. The mapping software is surprisingly accurate, and the cleaning ability is great even if it does take a long time…But I think they still have a long way to go. I’m shocked that my i5 kept trying to go under a chair, in the same spot that it would keep getting stuck under. I also am surprised that there is no sensor that tells it when the trash bin is full. With that being said, it does do the job it was made to do.

Can't we just be like the Jetsons already?!?! Where is my flying car and robot that cleans the whole house for me? Oh well. At least we have vacuuming robots. So this Roomba is my third robot vacuum. My previous 2 were both by Neato Robotics. I don't remember the model number of my first one, but my most recent one was the D8. The Neato's were fine, WHEN THEY WORKED. But I kept having intermittent problems with them. Most often they would seem to lose the stored map and disregard the "no-go" areas I had set up. I would sometimes come home to find the robot stuck in some area it wasn't supposed to be in the first place. Since Roomba is the name that you think of when you think of robot vacuums I figured I'd give this one a shot to see if it was better. * SPOILER ALERT * It is. If you've never used one of these types of vacuums, they work like this: You set the robot up by putting it's home base somewhere in the room where it is going to live and you have it do its initial cleaning run. Now you are most likely going to have some places in your room where you do not want the robot to go. Unfortunately the robot has to complete this first run before you can set the keep out areas. Like in my situation, I have a tarp on the floor below my parrots' cage to catch food and droppings. Of course I don't want the robot to try and go over the tarp and get stuck, so I put books and other solid objects around the tarp so the robot can't go there. Then after the robot has created the floor map, I place a keep out square over this area so the robot knows not to go here. One thing I don't like about setting the robot up is that it only comes with an instruction card that tells you how to set up the base and then tells you to download the app. It is so annoying to me that NO company seems to want to pay the money to print out an instruction manual anymore. It's always, "Scan this QR card for instructions". The app doesn't really tell you anything about how to set up the robot or create keep out areas. Luckily this Roomba works pretty much the same as my Neato so I was able to figure it out. But if you've never had a robot vacuum you might find the set up process a little confusing. This robot also has a mopping feature. Honestly I think this is a little silly as the robot just has a little microfiber pad attachment that you have to swap out from the regular vacuuming dust bin and add solution to. So all it does is drag this little wet pad around the floor. I wouldn't really call this mopping as the robot isn't really putting any pressure on the floor or doing any sort of scrubbing. Again to harp on the lack of instructions that come with this robot, it doesn't say any where on the app what sort of cleaning solution you are supposed to use. Water? Pine-Sol? Combination of the 2? I had to Google it to find out. I will say though that the Roomba seems to do pretty much everything better than my Neato did. It runs a little faster and is easier to use. Since IRobot has been at the vacuum robot game the longest they seem to have the engineering down. However the Neato robots "D" shape works better for getting into corners. Even with the Roombas large sweeping brush it still misses the corners.

Everyone needs a helper in their lives. No one likes to sweep floors or even mop them up. It’s a task that’s mundane- luckily there’s help! iRobot Roomba to the rescue! This amazing tech device is a delight to setup and get going. Setting it up and getting the app installed takes minutes, but the real fun is when it ventures out to do the work. I have a fairly large house, so I shut doors I didn’t want it to go into once it did it start up and travels around.once it maps everything out you can the. Set it to go out to a certain area to do the work. Also a cool feature you can have it vacuum or even clean up via the mop function those messy foot prints or in my case dog prints. How well does it do? I purposely crumbled up crackers and put them in various spots in the kitchen and it got 99.9% of them up! I was very impressed by the suction and brushes working in unison. It even made multiple passes , paused scanned and went back over area and got the last few pieces. Mopping? Well yes it was able to get the light muddy dog prints off the tiles and even laminate wood floors. I was suprised but also curious. The residue from the mop function was not noticeable which made my OCD stay calm. So if you are in the market for a helper, pick this combo up you won’t be disappointed!

I've been using a previous version Roomba 630 for going on 8 years now and have generally been pleased with its capabilities, especially given how long it's been used. This Roomba j5 is a SIGNIFICANT improvement from that model. I would say the greatest change comes to the upgrades to the AI system/learning processing accompanied by the iRobot app. It goes through your home systematically to learn the layout, it uses cameras to use lights and windows to help navigate and map out your home, and it has LEDs to locate and avoid potential obstacles - after it does that the app gives you the option to go through various camera images to teach the vacuum what obstacles to avoid. The app also has settings for cleaning preferences for choosing the number of cleaning passes, how to behave when the receptacle is full, and what obstacles to avoid. It's a serious change from where iRobot started out and I love that you can choose how it behaves and learns. Another thing to note is that the Roomba learns over time and cleaning will actually get faster- you'll notice that areas like under dining tables or complicated areas, the machine will bounce around a LOT but after some time, it will learn and figure out a more efficient means to clean that area the next time around. The sound of the vacuum is also reasonably quiet for what it does (at least compared to the older models). The receptacle can be replaced with the mop head, which is generally, a little bit disappointing. The Roomba is clearly designed more for the vacuum component with the mop side being more of a secondary function. The replaceable mop is pretty thin and doesn't do a great job, honestly. After running through a small 600 sqft space, it sort of comes back sopping wet and is more of a hassle than it needs to be. I would not recommend this for the mopping function, specifically. As a vacuum, this machine is FANTASTIC, especially with all the available settings in the app. The mopping capabilities are disappointing and it should be used as a backup option should you be in a bind.
