This is definitely a five-star item in my home!!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Hello, all you robot lovers! This is my review of the iRobot Roomba Combo Robot Vacuum & Mop + Clean Base Automatic Dirt Disposal mopping robot. This is my second j7+, my first one is the basic model that does not mop. The original j7+ is a phenomenal machine with great capabilities, so I wanted to add the mopping version to my lineup. The initial unboxing of this unit is great, Roomba put a lot of thought into the process. The instructions are simple and clear. You can have the iRobot Roomba Combo Robot Vacuum & Mop + Clean Base Automatic Dirt Disposal up and running in no time. It starts with a simple card you just follow the card step by step and you can have everything together in minutes. I like this approach because I'm lazy and don't want to read a manual or 40-page book. For me, the best part is the app, it controls virtually everything about the iRobot Roomba Combo Robot Vacuum & Mop + Clean Base Automatic Dirt Disposal. Some previous reviewers had issues with this. But over time Roomba has updated their app and fixed bugs etc... I found that Roomba just made a large update to the app that allows for seamless integration with all the models you have in the home that are connected. So when running 2 or more units, you don't have to have multiple apps or different windows open. Just one app controls all the models at once. If you have previously mapped out your home, you can access the maps right away and get your new robot on the path to cleaning. What is surprising to me is how smart the iRobot Roomba Combo Robot Vacuum & Mop + Clean Base Automatic Dirt Disposal is right out of the box. As it travels from room to room it can tell what type of flooring it is encountering. So no need to teach the j7+ what is in each area of your home it does it all on its own. Also, the folks at Roomba must be transformer fans. The way the j7+ changes from mopping to just plain vacuuming is very cool looking. It opens wings on the side and then swings the mop assembly up or down depending on the situation. The process is a beautiful thing. If you are a fan of transformers you will find it very entertaining. Now just to be sure you understand the limitation of the j7+, you will need to pick up large messes or spills yourself. This unit won't handle problems that are large like that. However, for everyday mopping and vacuuming, the iRobot Roomba Combo Robot Vacuum & Mop + Clean Base Automatic Dirt Disposal is a BEAST. It handles the floor level changes and the daily dirt and debris with ease. So if you have children or pets, and need an extra hand with cleaning. Then give the j7+ iRobot Roomba Combo Robot Vacuum & Mop + Clean Base Automatic Dirt Disposal robot a try. I think you'll love it as I do. This is definitely a five-star item in my home!!

Mop Vac Almost ready to replace full sizer's
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.IRobot Roomba combo J7+ Such an upgrade from the other robot vacuum mop. I didn't know what I was missing with my old Robot vacuum. It cleans my cat's hair off the carpet so well I don't need to run the big vacuum. I tried and found it was already clean. The mopping function also Is a trick to see in action. The arm swings up and down depending on if it sense’s carpet. Going over the carpet the arm raises in the stored position with ease. But I will say the very first time it paused for about 30 seconds then swung the arm up and into the storage position. But in the time I have been using it the arm goes up since the area is mapped out now. I have a more expensive Robot vacuum for another part of the house that I use for specific tasks. But for daily cleaning while you're away this is very nice. New toy mentality I need to adjust to every other day for cleaning because it does such a good job. But let's touch on the mopping portion since this excels greatly on this.the arm almost pushed down with some force while moving my kitchen floor. I cleaned some food spots the other mop vacuum didn't clean up. My cat hates the Roomba but It helps keep the house clean of cat hair and dander that I have allergies for. But don't have it clean over night while sleeping the vacuum is loud when it empties the bin. It is quick but load and can wake you up if you are a light sleeper. so by aware of this.

Almost Perfectly Cleans, Almost Perfect Product
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My partner and I got our first apartment. A rumba that does both vacuuming and mopping is a lifesaver since we both have busy schedules. Getting it out of the box was easy. At first the instructions were a bit confusing, yet they eventually became easy to read and follow. There is a QR code on the instructions that will take you to the app store to get the app. The app walks you through how to get running. It was a good transition. One page that confused me was the "Local Network Access." It was asking me to enable that. Although, if you press "continue" it will ask you to enable that with a prompt. Even the directions they provided confused me. It would be simpler to say check "Privacy & Security to make sure iRobot is enabled in Local Network." It first makes you create a "map" of your house. Depending on the size of your house it could take a while to finish mapping. If you want it to ignore an area I suggest putting some furniture to block it. I tried using cardboard boxes to block areas off yet the iRobot would run into them a couple of times, then get the idea it wasn't allowed there. I'm sure the camera is utilized at times but it must view the cardboard as air or something. I will say that sometimes it forgets the mapping. If you request for it to vacuum a certain area, sometimes it will start going into another area or go slightly beyond the border. Although, this is a rare case. We do have to empty the bag a bit more than when we used a regular vacuum as the bag compartment is pretty small. Whenever the bag is full and you have to empty it, you will find that it lets out some dust. I have been keeping my air purifier near it to grab the extra dust. I recommend keeping the base in an area you don't mind getting dusty. I've seen some smart trash cans seal their bags. I'd like to see such a feature. Or if it could be designed in such a way that it would not create a mess it's trying to clean... Occasionally you still do have to vacuum the old-fashioned way. However, I find myself doing that maybe once every other week. The iRobot does a pretty good job for the most part. In areas that my vacuum cannot reach (like under the bed) the iRobot helps. For tight areas and edges, I'll use my smaller vacuum. It does take almost two hours to finish vacuuming. Occasionally it will have to go back to charge or unload. Not counting it as a con necessarily, but if you are planning to clean quickly, try the old-fashioned way. As far as the vacuuming itself, it does an excellent job. It even does a good job of grabbing pet hair. When it comes to the mopping we have to fill it up with water and cleaning solution at least twice before it's able to finish our kitchen/washroom area. However, as I said with our busy schedule it still makes sense to have the iRobot do it. It will occasionally create a wet trail leaving the kitchen on the carpet. It is neat that I was able to connect it to my Google Home. Oddly enough, it separates the mop and vacuum on the app. You can put it in two separate rooms if you like. I want to point out too, that both icons look like vacuum's so I resorted to naming them. I suppose because in the app you can press start on the vacuum then it will vacuum. The iRobot application gives you more information so I'm not sure how much I'll be using the Google Home functionality. As mentioned in the beginning, the UI is not perfect. The setup, although easier than other smart products I've used, is still not the best compared to them. While I do think this would make a great gift for someone older, they may have a hard time getting it set up or diagnosing issues. It would be great for them because they could work less and bend over less. Overall, you're able to save yourself time which is a plus. It also does a great job cleaning. Perhaps once or twice a month you'll have to get some areas it may miss. I would not recommend this as your only or first vacuum/mop. It's a great substitute as long as you have the old-fashioned technology around.

The perfect assistant for really busy people
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had two previous robo-vacs from different manufactures, and by far this one has been the most thoughtfully designed botvac. From it's ability to switch dry vac to mop vac modes with out having to do anything, to it's ability to empty it's own waste canister. The Roomba J7 has me thoroughly impressed. In the box, you get the docking station with rubbish canister, two canister bags, the robot unit, two mop pads, and samples of the cleaning solution they recommend, and extra pieces/parts as needed. Setup is fairly easy. Place the docking station in an open area near an outlet and make sure the cannister bag is in place, turn on the bot and it will find the docking station or you can place it on the dock. It will charge and while it does, you can set up the app. BE CAREFUL not to grab the mop bar on top of the unit, it is NOT a handle. At first I was confused as to how it worked, but it will only lift up partially so you can replace the mop pad. And that's the coolest feature. The mop pad will deploy when needed automatically by the bot, the bar moves from above the bot to the floor during the cleaning process. It's one of those things that. The bot's onboard waste bin doubles as its water tank. This is where I am not sure if I love it or hate it. The fill limit is 210 mls which isn't a lot, and the intake hole is a bit awkward. I recommend measuring out everything in a separate container, 50 mls of cleaning solution and 160 mls of water seems to be a decent ratio. The bot itself is pretty quiet, while running, the only loudness from the unit is when the bot docks and transfers waste from bot to the docking station, so make sure you're not on the phone when that happens. The mapping system is a bit weird but at least you can see on the app, what the bot 'thinks' your layout is, and it's kind of trippy, but at least you can see it, my other two robos didn't have that feature. The app itself is fairly easy to use, it shows the bot's current charge level, waste bin and water levels, and will alert you if the water tank is low. You can set schedules and configure it for dry run, wet run, both, and spot cleaning.

A vacuum with lots of smarts
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overview: The vacuum robot has a lot of smarts and does a great job of detecting carpets and obstacles. It is a little louder than I would like, so I recommend using when out of the house. The mopping feature is nice, but the tank is a little on the small side. This is my second vacuum robot that I have owned and the iRobot j7+ in many ways is far superior to the previous Shark vacuum robot that I previously owned. Setup of the vacuum was simple. Just take the dock and robot out of the box, and follow the steps in the app. The dock is mostly pre-assembled, and you only need to attach the power cord. When you open the dock, you will see two compartments. One side is where the vacuum bag is attached, and the other side has storage for the extra bags. My unit’s battery shipped with a low state of charge. It allowed me to try out the vacuum, but to really use it, I needed to wait for it to charge overnight. Once the battery is fully charged, I would recommend having the robot go on a mapping run. This will give you a comprehensive map of your house. This includes detecting carpets on the floor. The robot was able to properly detect all the carpets in my house (opposed to my previous one that did not auto-detect any). In the map you will see a full view of your house, along with the separations of the rooms it finds. You can customize the room separations and give each one a label. Once your rooms are labeled, you will have the option to do a full house run or vacuum specific rooms. You can also make a favorite of a combination of one or more rooms. On each run you will get an overview of the areas vacuumed, along with any obstacles it ran into. A photo will be taken of each obstacle, and you have an option to indicate if the obstacle is temporary or permanent. Permanent obstacles will be marked in a red box on you map. One of the selling features of the vacuum is the ability to mop and vacuum on the same run. The robot did a good job off knowing when to use the mop and which floors to skip it on. Unfortunately, the vacuum only ships with small packages of the mopping solution and one tank only lasted a few hundred square feet. I wish the dock contained a storage compartment for mopping solution that would allow the robot to auto-refill itself. While this robot vacuum is far superior to my previous Shark robot in many ways, the one area that it falls short on is the noise level. While the noise level is not awful, it is loud enough that my family complained about it while it was vacuuming (They never complained about the Shark). Therefore, it is probably best to schedule vacuum jobs for when you will be out of the house.

Helps keep the house clean, with a few gotchas
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been a Roomba owner for years. I had my eye on upgrading to a model that was self-emptying for a while because we tend to have it vacuum daily while we're away from the house. It certainly gives the house a clean feeling even if we haven't dusted and wiped down surfaces in a while. The main floor of our house has three different surfaces - hardwood, tile, and carpet. That made this model the perfect solution, albeit with a few caveats which I didn't realize before purchase. This Roomba cannot differentiate between different types of non-carpeted floors (such as hardwood and tile). So if the solution you put into it for mopping is intended for hardwood, you'll want to be sure to use the room mapping feature to label those rooms and then set a routine that only mops the hardwood areas. We have a relatively large first floor, and we're only able to get about two mop runs done (either hardwood or tile) before the reservoir runs out of solution. Two other notes -the self-emptying mechanism is very, very loud relative to the Roomba itself vacuuming. Also, if you have thin throw rugs on your tile or hardwood, the Roomba will detect them but might still move them or roll up their corners which can be annoying.

vacuum mop combo to make cleaning easy
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The iRobot Roomba J7 vacuum and mop is the new line of Roomba's and it does an amazing job, although not with out a few missing features of other robot vacuums that I would like to see. Out of the box, the assembly is quite easy to handle and not a lot of work is needed to put it together. First get all of the packing material off of it like tape and any foam pieces that may be attached. Then get the base station unwrapped and plugged in. Set the roomba on the base station platform with the charging pads aligned and let the Roomba start charging. It has a pretty low charge when unboxing. It will take several hours for it to charge back up to 100%. In the meantime, you will need to download the iRobot app and you can mostly start setup once the vacuum is fully charged. When starting setup, the Roomba will need to get a layout of the house in order to make a map of the rooms and paths it will use. For a 6 room (Kitchen, Dining, Family, Living, Bathroom, Hall & Entry) Layout it took about an hour and a half for it to map it all out. You will need to get any debris or objects that are not normally in the way out of its path so it can what is supposed to be there or not. Otherwise it will vacuum around that stuff until you make a new map. It takes up quite a bit of battery to make a map so that is why it is important to charge it up all the way first. It makes quite a few passes around in each room to fully map. After the mapping is done, you can look at the map and edit the names or move room dividers. On the Roomba before starting a job, you will want to fill the mop tank. There is one bag of concentrated floor cleaner for tile and other flooring, and one bag of concentrated cleaner just for hardwood floors. You pour in the solution to the top of the tank, then fill up the rest with water. The dirty solution will get stored on the bottom of the tank. It needs to be filled and drained every mop cycle. You can go out and buy a large bottle of the cleaning solution after you use the starter packs. Upon set up you will also need to install the mop pad onto the arm. It slides onto the bracket and is easy to put on and take off. The Roomba comes with a manual, extra vacuum bag, extra brush, and extra mop pad. Once the map is set, you can start running the cleaning cycles and you can choose whether to just vacuum, or vacuum and mop. You are able to choose specific rooms to clean or make it clean the whole floor. Vacuuming power is decent. It seems to pick up good and vacuums well on short carpet. Longer carpet pyle is not going to get as clean, but it does do a good job of getting surface dirt, etc. When selecting the job, you can choose how many passes you want it to make and how much water it uses during the mopping cycle. It does a great job of transitioning between tile/hardwood flooring and carpet. The mopping capability is nice, but it is not the cure all. I think you will still have to hand mop the floor every once in a while, and the roomba just maintains it. The mopping tank is easy to remove and install as well, but I have had it open on me a couple of times during the cleaning, and you just have to push it back shut. Overall the Roomba J7 does a great job and cleaning and mopping. I do find it a bit on the slower side of cleaning though, and it would be nice if it had a live map of where the robot is in the house and the paths it has already cleaned. I would also like it if it could clean the corners and walls first before the open areas. You also need to change out the mop pad every few cleanings and wash it which tends to get a bit tedious. A lot of the changes I would like to see would mostly be software side.

Spare time for the Essentials
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Roomba IRobot J7+ is a camera-based obstacle-avoiding vacuum with precision navigation. I tested this feature by laying electric cords, socks, toys, and other small objects on the floor. The vacuum navigated around these objects with ease. I used the vacuum's Genius App, which provided me with greater levels of personalization utilizing new automation. According to IRobot, the App has the ability to get smarter over time, thus allowing the robot to deliver a more intuitive cleaning experience so busy people like me have more time to do what's most important. I first used the Roomba J7+ to create a house map while systematically navigating room by room. I created a" keep-out zone" (my small weight training area) that kept the vacuum from vacuuming in that zone. In terms of its most important function, it is the vacuum's cleaning ability. It did a decent job cleaning the carpet and hard floors. The IRobot J7+ is able to vacuum and mop at the same time. If it senses carpet (like an area rug), the vacuum knows to disengage the mop feature and reengage it when its senses hard floors or carpet. The dual brush design, together with the side brush, six sensors, and floor tracker, worked well on the carpets and hard floors. The side brush did a good job keeping the debris from scattering. It picked up debris from fine to large. The dual brush system, however, failed to keep some of the pet hair from spilling outside the vacuum. The IRobot J7+ has a self-emptying bin. The motor in the base sucks the debris out of the vacuum's dust bin and into the included bag inside the emptying bin. The regular maintenance of the IRobot Vacuum J7+ is pretty simple. Some parts require weekly cleaning, and other parts require monthly cleaning and adjustment. The bag inside the emptying bin can hold debris for weeks, depending on your cleaning habits, before it has to be changed. The iRobot J7+ is super quiet. The vacuum shuts down suction when moving to new areas of the house. The vacuum sits low to the ground, which makes it easier to navigate under furniture. The iRobot J7+ app has some great features. I was not able to explore all of the features this vacuum can offer. But this vacuum is for you if you value your time. You will have more spare time to do what is essential and enjoyable.

Fantastic Combo Unit
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had the opportunity to test the Roomba J7+ combo for the last 2 weeks, and it is impressive. I was eager to try this, because it had the vac + mop capability in a single unit. My main floor is entirely hardwood, and this would be a timesaver if it worked. I previously had the older Roomba J7+ vacuum, and that itself was impressive, but this unit takes it to the next level. Feature wise, the vacuum features are identical to both models. In fact, during setup, since I previously had the J7+, I was able to skip the initial mapping requirement, and could simply import my existing map of the main floor, with clean zones, obstacles to avoid, dividers, etc already taken care of. That was fantastic and a bit unexpected. In terms of looks, the J7+ combo looks almost identical to the vacuum only J7+, with the exception of the retractable mop head. This thing looks like a spoiler on a car when it is lowering. It is quite ingenious the design of it. You can tell the J7+ to vacuum only, or mop and vacuum, and do a single or double pass. The mop does the job and does a really nice job working its way across the floor, mopping the room as it vacuums first. In my testing, it left no streaks. The bin performs two functions... it holds the dirt that is vacuumed up and also holds the cleaner. iRobot provides an initial package of concentrate, but in test, it only lasted two sessions before I needed to refill it. The app told me when the roomba needed more, so that was great. If I didn't fill it, the J7+ Combo would continue just vacuuming. When the dirt bin is filled, the roomba simply returns to the base, empties, and goes out to finish the job. Depending on the size of the job, it might need to return home and recharge. I love the fact that you can choose exactly which rooms you want to clean. That is so convenient and it will detect obstacles and give you the option to tell Roomba that the obstacle is permanent (and avoid it next time) or temporary, and try again later. Overall this unit is absolutely fantastic and great if you have a large space simply due to hits flexibility and hands off nature of cleaning.

Excellent Vac & Mop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So this new Roomba vacuum is amazing, its a vacuum and a mop all in one and much quieter than my old Roombo vacuum. It worked great on dog hair which the old didn't do such a good job on anymore. The self-emptying feature awesome but it does take a little investment in time to get it properly programmed for all the areas in our home. The dust receptacle sure fills up quickly through and it only does a so so job in corners and right up against carpeted walls. Leaves a bit of dust bunnies wherever the floor transitions from hardwood or tile to carper and back again but a second or third programmed pass takes care of that. A couple of timers it did not go back to its dock but all in all the majority of the time it works great even though we can only state this based off of less than one month's use. We have it set for three days a week for a 1850 square foot home and it does a very satisfactory job but of course once a week we still have to spend a couple of minutes with a manual vacuum touching up here and there just like with any other robotic vacuum. The major problem is that people have unrealistic expectation that when they spend a lot of money on a product it is supposed to be absolutely perfect in all ways.

Not as smooth as I expected for the money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Considering how much this is worth, I wasn't very impressed at the beginning. Mine came with a defective right wheel, which I had to fix myself because I don't live in the United States (I literally had to disassemble the bottom part and unscrew the wheel, thanks Youtube!). Once fixed, it worked as it should. The vacuum is really good and my floors feel clean, the app is also very easy to use. My only complaint would be that the dust bag apparently filled after just two runs, and according to the product's description each bag is supposed to last at least 2 months before getting full. I'm currently on my second bag and I am hoping this time it lasts the time it should. Besides that, I am very pleased with its overall performance, my floors feel very clean.
