Awesome robot vacuum cleaner!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the first robot vacuum I own. The sales rep did an amazing job at explaining the differences between the 675, e5, and the i3. Basically, the biggest differences are suction power... and the fact that the i3 cleans in linear motions as opposed to random navigation. I did not inquire about the highest end models as my budget didn't stretch that far. I own a 1,600 sq ft home, and the i3 is perfect for it. It cleans, a lot. On the very first pass, the bin was full of dirt and dust bunnies I would have never seen camouflaged on carpet and a dark wood grain floor. The vacuum does great on both carpet and hardwood flooring, I believe ceramic tiles would also not be a problem at all for it. I highly recommend this robot if you want to see the cleaning in action, it takes a while for it to know where it's going, but after a couple of days it knows your house. The one "con" I would say is that it does not have smart mapping... which means you cannot send it to a specific area of your house. But in a 1,600 sq ft home... it's not necessary.

Great Entry Level Roomba
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Roomba i3 is considered their budget model but it sure does a very good job cleaning. The i3 first few cleanings is a systematic row by row cleaning method that maps out the area you are cleaning and every subsequent cleaning gets faster and faster. I am very impressed at how much dust and dog hair this thing picks up. It has never had a problem finding its way home. From a loudness scale, you will notice that it is running but in honesty more noise will come from your pets if they don't like a round black object invading their personal space. The collection container holds quite a bit of trash and the collection container contains 2 filters to prevent dust from recycling back into the air. The more expensive model comes with a trash bin that cleans out the container of the Roomba but I don't think it justifies the cost over this basic i3 model. Nothing a 10 second pop out and shake in the trashcan daily can't accomplish and one less thing to worry about breaking. The biggest feature that is lacking in the i3 is the ability to set keep out zones. Since I have sloppy dogs that can't seem to keep water in the bowl, it always concerns me that the Roomba i3 might suck in water on the floor. That feature is reserved for the more expensive i7 model and cost significantly more. Therefore the i3 will require a bit more planning on your part before cleaning. This usually means timing the cleaning before the dogs typically drink water. Otherwise, this i3 model gives you everything you need to just press a button on your phone to start the cleaning or use your Alexa or Google Home to start the cleaning. It took me a bit to figure out the right key words to use with Alexa to start the cleaning. Google Home works similarly too once you figure out the proper key words to use. The initial setup with WiFi was weird because it did not like any of my home's 5Ghz networks. It tries and copies the settings from your phone. Once I switched over to the 2Ghz network, everything worked fine. This is probably for the best because 2Ghz spectrum has a longer range than the 5Ghz spectrum.

So Cool
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This roomba is so cool. This is my first robot vacuum. I love it. It cleans really well. I wasn't expecting that. Very easy to setup. The android app works as it should. I love that I can name it. It's like having a pet lol. Setting up the times I want it to do its thing is great. It transitions from carpet to tiles very well. It's easy to empty the dirt tray and seems simple to maintain. I'm so happy with this thing. Great product!!!

Works Better Than I Thought
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve never had a Roomba vacuum before so my expectations were pretty low. Luckily I was blown away by the performance of this little guy. Well, not that little. This sucker (haha) is huge! It actually made it a little difficult to fit under the table through the chair legs so we may have to move those in the future. Setup was super easy and I got started on the first run with the touch of a button. It didn’t seem to need to learn the room first and just mapped it out as it went. We have two bunnies so the dust container filled up FAST! I had to empty it four or five times. The machine also uses a little filter that will eventually need changing. The Roomba comes with one installed and one extra one. We have mostly hardwood floors but also a large area rug and carpeted bedrooms. Roomba did GREAT on all of them. I had no idea it could do carpet! The little wispy arm and undercarriage were extremely effective on all surfaces. I’m blown away and may never vacuum again thanks to little DJ ROOMBA!

Best robot vacuum we've ever owned.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The iRobot - Roomba® i3 (3150) Wi-Fi® Connected Robot Vacuum – Neutral is a very good robot vacuum! We presently have three robot vacuums, and each is a different brand. One of those three is a larger, heavier unit that scans the room and follows those scanned lines in its little brain to travel back and forth in straight lines, only deviating for objects in its path. The other two do not scan but run helter-skelter all over the place eventually covering most, if not all, of the floor area where they’re operating. Our fourth robot vacuum is the Roomba i3, and this is our first Roomba. When you set it in a room and press its Clean button, it scans (maps) the area very quickly (more quickly than our other scanning robot) and then starts off in straight lines to methodically cover the entire area. The first time we used it, I set it in our master bedroom, and I had the master bathroom doors open and the door open to our master closet. With our other scanning robot, I typically close all these doors because, if I don’t, it will go through the doors into the bathroom and closet and turn right around to go back into the bedroom not cleaning the other two areas. To get the bathroom and closet vacuumed, I have to set the other robot in each area separately with its door closed. So, I wanted to see what the i3 would do. While it was running in the bedroom, I checked it a couple of times, and it didn’t get stuck anywhere. It also easily traveled over an oriental rug lying on top of the carpet. Later, I went back to check on it, and it had vacuumed the carpets in the master bedroom, master bath and master closet completely! You could clearly see its little tracks where it had vacuumed all three areas completely! I think this is great because apparently the i3 just adds additional rooms to its map as it goes. I don’t know if it would act the same with more or larger rooms. Of course, if you want it to stay in one room or so, just close the doors to other areas. You download an app for your smartphone so that the i3 and your app are connected. You can give it orders through the app when you’re not at home, say, if you want it to start cleaning, or you want it to stop and dock. In addition, it notifies you if its dust bin needs emptying or if it gets stuck or another problem occurs. That is handy if you’re in some other part of the home than where the i3 is operating. You can also control your i3 with your voice assistant, if you prefer. You can program the robot to clean according to a schedule as well instead of using the Clean button on the robot. By the way, the i3 talks to you instead of just giving you an error code as the others we have do. It has additional sensors so that it gets stuck less often; it can sense, up to a point, certain places to avoid where it will likely get stuck. This isn’t perfect, but it’s better than our experience with our other three robots. It also senses where more dirt is present so that it will cover those places more intensely and less so if the dirt is less. It has dual multi-surface rubber brushes (the rear one rotates to kick debris forward while the front one rotates to kick dirt backward) that channel dirt into the intake duct. Our experience is that it cleans deeply, more deeply than our other three, so that the carpet, in particular, is cleaner than our others are able to do. The rubber brushes do not get bound up in hair as bristle brush rollers will do. Also, these dual rubber brushes or rollers will move or flex to allow them to keep in contact as much as possible with the floor surface. Finally, I know for a fact that the i3 runs more quietly and more quickly than our other scanning robot. As I said above, it actually cleans better as well. If it runs low on power before it’s finished its task, it will go back to the charging station, recharge, then automatically finish its task. The i3 Roomba 3150 is a superior robot vacuum to the others we have in all ways. You will be very impressed with its performance and satisfied with its purchase.

30 Day Honest Review
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Alright, so you're reading reviews to see if this thing is worth the money, right? So did I. TL;DR at Bottom. So I'm a huge skeptic when it comes to this stuff. Full disclosure, my mother-in-law bought this for us because thats her love language, she likes to treat us to something nice when she visits. BUT. I WISH I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT SOONER. We have two dogs. Both are in the house the majority of the time. They stay downstairs, in roughly 400 square feet of space that is all tile. Before this unit, we would try to vacuum at least once a week, or whenever you get that dirty feeling when going downstairs in the morning and feeling dog hair and dirt on your bare feet... because who wants to vacuum every day? NO ONE. BUT THIS BAD BOY DOES! EVERY DAY AT 5AM BEFORE WE WAKE UP! It truly is wonderful. I was a huge skeptic at how well this thing would work, how thorough it would be, and how much of a nuisance it could be (dying mid clean, getting lost, getting stuck, etc). But let me tell you the pros and cons. Pro's. - It has not gotten stuck, died, or lost. It cleans very thoroughly. - It runs every morning at 5am. And gets the dirt bin pretty full, like a handful of dirt and dog hair (we live in the desert with two dogs). - It can go about two cleanings without having to empty the bin. - After seeing the map thing on the app, it really does get everywhere. and you can see spots like table legs that it doesnt mat. Pretty impressed with that. - the app says it cleans about 400 square feet of space. (kitchen, living room, hallway) - I seriously am bummed we didn't invest in this sooner. Cons. - if there's anything oblong, like a bobby pin or wood splinters dragged in from the dogs chewing on logs, the entrance to the dust bin is oblong, and they tend to get jammed up before entering, causing it to think its full when its not. Just after removing the bin, there's usually a ball of hair with a twig still in the hose area.. It has never completely jammed or stopped cleaning because of it. - the app does kind of suck and doesn't load sometimes. You would think a big company like this could get a decent working app. - NOISE. It is definitely noisier than you would think, specially on tile. Its not super great to try to watch TV while the thing is running, which is why I have it run at 5am while we are sleeping upstairs. If by chance it doesn't run because of a full dust bin, I just have it run when we leave the house. - The carpet performance is okay, we have big area rugs, and you can see some twirled up hair balls that escape the suction/rollers sometimes. But it really isn't that bad. It happened with our cordless shark vacuum too. - It does not work on a 5ghz network. It has to be set up on a 2.4 network. I struggled with connectivity issues for 30 minutes until somewhere in small print it said this. This thing does its job, and now makes it so I just use our Bissell spinning mop thing about once a week. And our floors are in so much cleaner shape than trying to keep up with the vacuuming. I know I didn't personally buy it, but knowing what I know now, I wish I would've bought this thing years ago. This i3 Model does everything we need it to do, so I don't know if the newer more expensive is worth the money. However, we decided not to do the tower auto dust bin emptying one because you have to buy their custom garbage bags for it and thats just dumb. They're expensive! its not a big deal to just empty the bin every other day..

Surprisingly agile robot vacuum
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let's get this out of the way up front. I love this thing. I've always wanted a robot vacuum, but the reviews were always all over the place. Given the opportunity to test one out ,I figured it was time. I am not disappointed. So let's go over the features. In the box uou get the i3 roomba, charging base, extra filter, and a bunch of documentation. Setup is very easy. You place the charging dock in an appropriate location, run the setup through the app, and you'll be up and running in no time. **I would strongly recommend letting the vacuum charge to 100% before starting its first job. the app recommends starting immediately, but waiting is better** Performance: I wasn't sure how well the roomba i3 was going to handle moving from hardwood with throw rugs, to tile, to carpeting, but it never had a problem. We live in a single-story home so I can't really comment on edge detection, but moving from different surfaces was seamless. In terms of how well it vacuums, it does an amazing job. We have a dog so pet hair and dander are a daily issue, but the roomba has basically taken all of the work out of it. The initial plan was to use the roomba to supplement our regular vacuuming routine, but so far it's supplanted our regular vacuum (with a few exceptions). The "dirt detection" seems to work really well. Upon first use we kept one of the carpeted bedroom doors open and of course it found it's way under the bed. It spent a ton of time under there navigating around things stored under the bed and getting deep into an area that is very rarely dusted/vacuumed. It spent so much time under there in fact that it had to return to the base to charge back up before completing the job. It did as good of a job on the carpet as it did on the hardwood, but we ultimately decided that it wasn't worth the extra time/effort as this bedroom is where the dog keeps a lot of its toys. It wasn't worth it for us to move everything the roomba could get tripped on so we've cut that room out of the regular routine. Still great performance while it was in there. Some other thoughts. You'll have to pay special attention to where and how power cords, cables, low hanging drapes, or any other potential obstacles may lie. The roomba is pretty great at navigating around obstacles, but you really don't want it say going behind a couch and getting trapped on a power cord. Personally I'd rather not have to move my furniture to retrieve it so plan ahead. I was really concerned about pathing/mapping for the i3 because neither the box nor literature mention if/how pathing is accomplished. No need to worry though as the roomba has become more efficient with each use. From the first run (after excluding one of the bedrooms) to today, it's shaved almost 10 minutes off of it's cleaning time. I'm also really impressed with how well it handles itself around frequently moved items e.g. kitchen chairs, shoes, ottoman etc. It seems like once it identifies the outer edges of the expected obstruction it knows exactly where to go. I'm really impressed. Alexa/google assistant integration: This is perhaps one of my favorite features as I don't run the roomba on a regular schedule. Our dog is somewhat terrified of this thing, so I try to run it when she's sleeping or in one of the bedrooms. Being able to have google/alexa start a cleaning cycle using only your voice feels great. I also like that I can tell it to pause, resume, return to base, or cancel with a simple command. It just works. As I mentioned you can also set roomba to run on a regular schedule if that's your thing. Cleaning/emptying/servicing the roomba is extremely simple. A simple button press releases the dustbin and the filter just pulls out. I like that the filter can be repeatedly cleaned instead of requiring being replaced. As of yet I haven't had to clean any of the sensors, but the process is extremely easy and straightforward as well. My main concern here is irobot will stop producing filters and I'll be unable to find aftermarket solutions, but right now that's not a problem. Probably a good idea to stock up. I really like the app as well. It has all of the controls that you would expect plus after a cleaning job has been completed you can tap the summary and get a visual representation of what the roomba "sees". It's not actually seeing anything, but it's generating a map that it is constantly refining to make cleaning more fast/efficient. This is really cool because you can very easily see where you can help your roomba out by slightly moving obstructions. For example we leave our shoes at the front door, but the roomba doesn't like it when they're side by side. It takes a few extra minutes to path around them, but if we place them one in front of the other it goes around them faster. This probably has to do with the roomba only finding one edge and moving more quickly around it, but whatever. The map is a cool feature and I love it. You may find yourself asking what the difference is between this and the more expensive i3 option, and the answer is simply the self emptying dustbin. For me it's not worth 200 dollars more to save myself the effort of occasionally bending over. That said, if I were looking for something for someone with restricted mobility I would strongly consider buying the more expensive i3. Overall I couldn't be happier with this thing. It's exceeded all of my expectations, quickly slotted itself into my regular cleaning routine, and gives me endless entertainment watching the dog try to figure out what it is. Would strongly recommend to anyone in the market for a robot vacuum.

I really wanted to like this more but...
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not the “maid” I thought it would be. So only three stars. My house is 1200 square feet, so thought a Roomba would be ideal to keep the main living area floors clean. The first problem was finding a convenient docking spot that met the square footage requirements around the Roomba. To get started we cleared out a corner of the living room, which is tile with a large area rug. Once we got everything connected, and gave it a nudge away from the dock, we watched it map that portion of the living room which was tile. When the Roomba got to the area rug, it stopped and instructed us to manually move it onto that surface. We then decided to move the docking station to an area in a hallway, inconvenient for sure; however, the Roomba when turned on set out to map the dining room, guest bath, and kitchen, all tiled. Quite mesmerizing to watch, and it did a fine job, especially sweeping up the corners. It again stopped when it came to the living room area rug. I was hoping that I could get the Roomba started and it would clean my floors on its own, but it required quite a bit of attention to manually move it about the space. It maneuvered easily around the dining room table and chairs, but any change in elevation stopped its progress. It was also much noisier than I had anticipated. Could not run this while watching TV or listening to music. I think this product was designed for a larger space where it could roam free and do its cleaning once programmed. all that said, I would recommend this to friends but only after I made them aware of its limitations.
