Customers are saying

Customers are satisfied with the Roomba i7's cleaning performance, mapping capabilities, and ease of use, frequently praising its navigation and suction power. However, some users point to the small dustbin size and relatively short battery life as drawbacks. The vacuum's noise level and high price were also mentioned as potential areas for improvement.

    Poor Battery Life

Purchased this little guy back in August of 2019, after absolutely loving our 860 and deciding it was time to invest in another roomba for another level of our house. The vacuum itself works pretty great! Didn't get stuck in weird spots like our 860 did on our main level, so we moved our 860 to an easier to vacuum (less furniture to get stuck on) location and made the i7 our main level vacuum. We have 1 dog and 4 cats, it kept up relatively well. However, in the same spots, everyday, no matter how often you cleaned the roomba brushrolls, it would leave little piles of fur. They were easy to pick up, nothing to complain about, and we continued to love the little guy. Fast forward to July of 2020. The robot was starting to fail to charge. Kept a charge of about 5% (which is not enough to start or run the robot), but would never charge above that. I did all the recommended cleaning of the base connection and robot connection, reset the vacuum, and then factory reset. Nothing. So I caved, and purchased a new battery from iRobot's website. Out $100, but cheaper than a new vacuum, and we still liked the little guy, so again, nothing to complain about. The battery was super easy to install, and our little buddy was back up and running with no issue besides dropping fur bombs in the exact same locations daily. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago (mid-October 2020). Similar issue starts occurring with the charge of the battery. This time around I'm adamant that I will not be putting another $100 into this guy. So I email iRobot. They get back pretty quick, tell me I need to remove the battery and reinstall. Ok, done. Still same problem. They say we need to talk, so I call. They say it may be the base. I admit to owning 3 roombas and ask if another base would work. They said my 860 base would be compatible (which I know works because my 860 still runs like a champ after more 3 years... and on the same battery!!). Attempt to charge the i7 that way, and no such luck. They then inform me that I have missed the manufacturer's warranty by a year and would need to pay $132 to send it in and have it repaired..... Which I assume means, they will replace it with another battery that will only last another 3 months. Soooo, I'm going to cheat on roomba and try another robot vacuum (likely shark, since we have historically loved shark). I'll keep our 860 around and happily continue to get my moneys worth on him, but it's definitely time to move on from the overpriced world of roomba. Would I recommend? the 860 for sure! the i7, not so much.

I had high expectations for this and after paying the hefty price it didn't work well for my house. It couldn't climb over little section dividers and was very noisy especially when it bumped into furniture. I use the shark ninja iq now, way smarter IMO... Doesn't aggressively bump furniture and it can climb over the dividers. It even cleaned better than the Roomba.

Purchased this iRobot about three months ago. Continually have trouble with undocking. It will undock about a foot from the base and then stop. We have looked up problem solving steps online and still get the same issue each time. We have to remember to empty it every other cleaning as well. Last complaint is that it is noisy.

This is a replacement for the a Roomba 960 which was purchased and did not have working WiFi. I reviewed this and other models and when this model went on sale for 399.99 I figured why not buy it. This baby connected to WiFi fast and easy no problems here. I like the dust bin even though it is too small with a built in pre-filter and the filter is small and easy to vacuum clean which increases it's life. There are a couple of issues it works well on hard surfaces but leaves a pile of debris the width of the brushes underneath the unit. I believe it is turning off the suction and brushes as or before it is docked in the recharge base. Second, there is high pile carpet on the second floor of our house and the i7 fails here. It does not have a large enough battery to last long on the high pile carpet and the dust bin fills very fast. It also sounds like it is laboring to move. I would not recommend to anyone with high pile carpet.

I Do not recommend the I7, I have an older model that seems to work alot better. The Battery doesn't last as long alot because the unit has many extra feature and functions that require more battery. The unit lasted a short time goes back to base recharges and comes back on at random time like while your trying to watch a movie etc. After several months the unit would run for literally 5 minutes shut off, I would restart and it would shut off after 5 minutes again and continued and wouldn't work anymore as normal had to return!

This former flagship of the #1 robot vacuum brand is a dud. After creating a smart map of our small, single level, 3 bedroom home, Tuesday it stopped cleaning my son's room because we moved a table, Wednesday it had an out of memory error, and today it stopped cleaning my daughter's room because we put a beanbag chair in the middle of the floor. It can't figure out obstacles once it creates a map. Out of memory covering a 1700 Sq ft home? Picks up a lot though. Wish it had a larger bin.

Cleans both hard wood and area rugs very well. The LOW rating is because it takes almost as long to clean and maintain the Roomba as it would to haul out my vacuum and just do the vacuuming myself. I've had to call customer service and/or reset the machine numerous times. It is definitely NOT WORTH THE MONEY

Vacuum worked well for 11 months

I have had an I7 and an M6 for about 11 months now. About a week ago, the vacuum started vacuuming all the rooms at about a 10 degree angle. See the video attached. The video shows that over the course of less than 10 feet, it moves over a foot to the left , hitting the cabinet. It does this in every room. So the unit is not longer navigating correctly and is missing spots because of this. I have worked with both level 1 and level 2 on the support line you find on iRobot. After a couple days of working with them and sending videos, they tried to tell me the unit is working properly. If you look at all the advertisement for this unit, it uses the camera to uniformly, and work adjust to your environment. Both units have been cleaning parallel and perpendicular to the walls and furniture for 11 months, and now the vacuum cleaning at an angle does show something is wrong. I do love having a robotic vacuum, but iRobot products are not cheap compared to their competitors. If this is how the company treats its customers, then I will have to stop talking iRobot's praises to everyone I know, and sharing my current experience with them, and look at other companies that care about helping their customers when there are problems.

It’s been 5 months since I purchase this iRobot and all brushes need to be replaced. The battery constantly needs to be charged and it vacuums the same spots over and over. 3/10 times it actually makes it to its charging dock. It’s the newest model with a hefty price tag, would I buy it again if I had the option no I would not.

It's a great convenience but have to empty the bin a LOT. I could understand the first few cleanings but after having it for 3 weeks we are still having to empty it too often. One of the problems is that dirt get stuck in the vacuum itself and doesn't even get to the bin. This should not happen. We have to dig the dirt out of the vacuum itself!

Worked well enough on hard floors but was next to worthless on carpet and rugs. I was expecting more from iRobot and the price point. I was enticed by the idea of the self empty, but it was not enough. iRobot seems to focus on everything besides the actual vacuuming. Would consider brand again someday if they decide to put vacuuming first. All the gadgets and gizmos only take you so far when you can't perform your main function. When vacuuming carpet, the Roomba would just roll up the pet hair and leave big clumps of it all over. Multiple passes saw no improvement. Returned this for a Neato D-series and am much happier. It did take a few passes to get everything, but it did not create clumps like the Roomba and in fact, it actually vacuumed up the clumps left by the Roomba.

We own two iRobots (upstairs and downstairs) so I thought I would get the latest version for upstairs. Although I like the upgraded software features, the bin needs to be emptied very frequently. It’s to the point that it is not useful at all. Make the bin larger and it would be a different story!

No happy. Stopped working first day. Sending sweep. Had to send to warranty. They sent me refurb. Unacceptable when I spent good money for this product. I should not have to get a used or refurbished products to replace my brand new product. I’ve asked Best Buy for some kind of monies back and nothing ever happened

A product needs to work as advertised. This one didn't work with the app for all the things it was advertised for. If you want a product that works 100% don't buy this one. I'm waiting for another year or so - they still don't have the kinks out and also keep coming up with small incremental changes - aka the "BIN" to offload the dirt etc. collected. If you are going to spend this type of money then the product should work well without any issues.

Had high hopes. However, I could not get this model to connect to the internet. Never had a problem with my iRobot 960 connecting, but this one wouldn't. Spent 3 hours unsuccessfully with 3 different support techs. Their advanced techs were never readily available and I just gave up.
