Customers consistently note the Roomba i8+'s excellent cleaning performance and ease of use, praising its intuitive app and effective mapping features. The self-emptying function is a highlight for many, although some find the noise level during this process to be high. Positive feedback also focuses on the robot's navigation capabilities and good battery life.

The Roomba i8+ is a top-of-the-line robotic vacuum with advanced features and technology to deliver a thorough and efficient cleaning experience. The standout features of the Roomba i8+ is its ability to map out your home and navigate around obstacles without causing damage or disruption. This allows for much faster cleaning sessions with less equipment wear than models that wander aimlessly covering the same areas multiple times in an attempt to touch every spot once.
The Roomba i8+ uses iAdapt technology to create a map of your home and determine the most efficient cleaning path. This technology allows the vacuum to navigate around furniture and other obstacles without bouncing off them like a bumper car, as some other robotic vacuums do. The Roomba i8+ also uses advanced sensors to detect and avoid potential hazards, such as clothes or other items on the floor, to prevent damage or spreading messes.
The Roomba i8+ is equipped with a self-emptying base that automatically disposes of dirt and debris, which is especially helpful for pet owners or those with allergies. If it fills during a cleaning session, it will return to the base, empty, then resume cleaning. The larger bag in the base station also means that the robot vacuum can resume cleaning till the job is done without human intervention to empty a dustbin or have it overflow. Since the base can hold the debris from multiple cleanings, it further saves time and effort.
The advertised run time on the battery is two hours. My older robot vacuum would need that much time and more to finish the whole downstairs with a recharge before the job was done. The Roomba i8+ has nearly cut that time in half while doing a better job. I suspect the batteries will last longer with them not being run down to empty on every use, which helps lower maintenance costs adding value.
In terms of volume level, the Roomba i8+ operates quietly compared to other high-end robotic vacuums. This is not to say this is quiet and you will run while working or watching TV, it’s not. Especially when the dirt is being sucked off into the base station bag. Especially on hard floors. But it is not as loud as a typical canister, upright vacuum, or other robot vacuums I’ve seen. I schedule it run when I am not home or when I am doing activities like cleaning on another floor or working outside. One feature that drove this for me is that my BravaJet robot mop will begin to mop the floors after the Roomba I8+ has finished. One step closer to living the life of George Jetson. Unfortunately, no robot vacuums on the market can do stairs, but then neither could the Rosie robot on the Jetsons.
As an allergy sufferer, a feature meaningful to me are the filters, which capture 99% of allergens, pollen, and dust mites. The Roomba i8+ has strong suction power, making it effective at cleaning a variety of floor types, including carpet, hardwood, and tile. I mostly have hard floors with a few area rugs. The rugs do not have a high pile. The Roomba i8+ managed these transitions very well. It went on and off multiple times without incident. Other robot vacs I tried would push them up and sometimes trap themselves under the rug. The spinning brush does well with the wall edge and furniture legs.
The Roomba i8+ is surprisingly heavy and made with quality materials. It looks and feels like the premium product it is, with higher price point compared to other robotic vacuums on the market. The vacuum bags and filters for the Roomba i8+ are also more expensive than those of some competing models, which could be a consideration for some buyers with hairy pets or a high amount of dirt. But one could argue that’s all the more reason to get this model. The Roomba i8+'s shorter run time, self-emptying base and high-quality filters make it an excellent choice, especially for those with allergies, respiratory condition, or pets.
The many advanced features, efficient cleaning capabilities, and superb performance make it worthwhile for those who want a mostly autonomous high-quality cleaning experience without the hassle of manually emptying the vacuum's dustbin. Add a BravaJet and your floor care cleaning is mostly taken care of. The iRobot Roomba i8+ is a high performance robotic vacuum that delivers efficient, thorough, and problem free cleaning with its advanced mapping and sensor technology to avoid obstacles and prevent damage while minimizing run time and wear. I highly recommend this model, it’s a big step forward from older models.

Stopped working after 17 months. After almost 2 hours on the phone with iRobot, they said I needed a new base. IRobot wouldn't do anything to fix it or replace it and my local Best Buy store, Crabtree location in Raleigh, NC, wouldn't honor the 24 month warranty I purchased when I bought it. Roomba Earns Its Keep

Robot vacuums are incredible because they lighten the load of our everyday lives. Every little bit counts when it comes to having more time for yourself, right?
Through the years, I’ve had various brands of robot vacs. And out of all the brands, I found that Roomba makes a solid vacuum. It was only recently that my previous Roomba needed to be retired due to aging out after a few years.
It was time for a replacement.
Setup and Run It:
While some people might be intimidated by the notion of getting a robot vac due to it being ‘too technical’. I can assure you that setting up the iRobot Roomba i8 is so easy that my cat could do it. There’s no assembly. Just remove the robot and its Clean Base (that’s where the Roomba empties itself into), find an open area to plug it into, and let it charge.
Getting it to full charge didn’t take very long. I was setting up the Roomba app while it charged. The app setup is easy as long as you know how to connect to your Wi-Fi network.
When the Roomba is fully charged, just send it off to map out your home floor(s). If there’s a room or an area that you don’t want your Roomba to go into or near, then you’ll want to activate the tiny tower that comes with the robot. Turning this obelisk on creates an invisible barrier that the robot avoids. So, let’s say you don’t want the robot to vacuum a room, then place the small device at the opening of the room and the Roomba will turn around.
But don’t worry, you don’t need the device to prevent the Roomba from hurling itself off a set of stairs. It does sense when there’s a drop-off and will turn around.
But Does It Clean?
When my Roomba mapped out the hall, kitchen, bedroom, dining area, and front rooms, it seemed to have kicked up debris in the process. It had more or less created work for itself. I figured this was where the real test was. Through the app, I told the Roomba to clean. It took about 45 minutes for it to do a full clean. And wow, it CLEANED. All the dust bunnies and debris that it had kicked up during its mapping process was now gone. It got along the edges and corners. Almost comparable to using an upright vacuum’s wand extension.
During the vacuuming process, the Roomba docked itself a couple of times in order to empty itself into the Clean Base bag. There’s no need for you engage with the Roomba robot.
Schedule Clean Time:
Via the app, you can schedule a particular time that you want the Roomba to clean. Whether you are home or not, the Roomba is ready to clean at your command. If you happen to be home when it’s cleaning, you will find that the vacuum isn’t loud or annoying. It goes about its business without much noise until it arrives at the Clean Base where it then has a brief high pitch vacuum sound as it empties into the bag. And let’s say that you’re not sure if the Roomba ran, then you can go into the app and view the cleaning history.
Works with Google Home:
Another great feature that’s available is connecting the Roomba to Google Home. Doing this allows you to say, “Hey Google, start Roomba!” and the vacuum is sent out to clean. You can create a custom name for your Roomba. I call mine, Alfred.
I don’t think there’s anything else I can say about this wonderful robot vacuum. There’s nothing to date that rivals its ease of use or performance.
If this is your first Robot vac then you’re going to wonder how you managed life without it.

Life-changing iRobot vacuum!

The iRobot Roomba i8+ self-emptying vacuum is a life changer! What it can do is nothing short of amazing. It is an extremely “smart” machine! You can get started almost immediately by pressing the “CLEAN” button on top of the vacuum or telling it via the app to “vacuum everywhere.” You will be impressed with the sucking power of this machine. It does a fantastic job of doing everyday cleaning. When vacuuming, it goes in a line and logically adjusts as it meets up with obstacles, then turns to go back to where it left off and it comes back to do the edges. I had a different brand robot vacuum before and when it met up with an obstacle, it got very confused and seemed to go every which way with no logic at all. And this goes from bare floors to carpet without a hitch. I have wood floors with rugs here and there and it has no problem at all making the transition. AND, it has never gotten stuck anywhere - that is a huge deal to me! Watching the iRobot at work is fascinating and very satisfying.
This is a WiFi connected vacuum is run mainly via the iRobot app, for best results. With this app, you can even program the vacuum to run on a set schedule. Do you want it to vacuum before you get home from work so that you come home to a nicely vacuumed house? Or perhaps Friday evenings so that your home is clean for the weekend?
The Roomba i8+ has the ability to map your home as it runs and the mapping feature is amazing! It maps as it runs through the house and develops a map of the rooms with vacuumable areas shown and it even differentiates carpeted and non-carpeted areas. You can then adjust the rooms if needed and name the rooms! After naming rooms, you can have the iRoomba vacuum only certain rooms if you choose or you can have it vacuum everywhere. It is so awesome to tell Alexa (yes it links to smart assistants) “tell iRobot to vacuum the living room.” It automatically starts from its base and heads directly to the living room. It thoroughly vacuums the room and then returns to base and the vacuum automatically empties into the bin. Yes, it is very loud doing the emptying process, but what a convenience. It does require the use of bags. They are currently priced at 3 for $19.99 from the iRobot store which you can purchase from within the app. They claim the bags hold up to 60 days of debris. During vacuuming, if the vacuum’s bin gets full, the iRobot will return to the base and empty and go back out to finish the job! That’s more than I would do! (LOL!). It works the same with charging - if the charge goes too low, it will return to the base and charge up then go back and finish its work.
The iRobot Roomba i8+ is THE vacuum for me. As I write this review, I am lounging on the sofa and Roofus (as we named it - Roofus the Roomba) is vacuuming the house. Life is good! I highly recommend the iRobot Roomba i8+ (8550) Wi-Fi Connected Self-Emptying Robot Vacuum to anyone interested in having clean floors/carpets done on command.

The iRobot Roomba i8+ is a nice wi-fi robot vacuum that has more features than my previous robot vacuum. This unit has more features and a better app than my previous robot vacuum, and it has the ability to empty itself. The setup process was fairly easy and straightforward. There’s no long manual to read through. The step-by-step process of the app is all you need to get going. The app does an excellent job of guiding you through the setup process and learning how to use the vacuum. The process of connecting it to my home’s wi-fi network was also easy. Once connected, the unit was ready to go. It had a little bit of battery juice, so I was able to test it out briefly before it needed a full charge. As the unit vacuums my floors, it creates a map of the area that it vacuums. The app also allows me to edit the mapping area after the map is complete. It takes several cycles to have an accurate map. When the container within the vacuum gets full of debris, it knows how to return back to the base to be emptied. It does a good job of emptying debris into the bag that’s assembled within the base station housing. However, it’s very loud during that process. It only lasts about 10 seconds or less, but it’d loud enough to wake up everyone in the house. The vacuum will also return back to the base when its battery is getting low. Battery life is very good. It’s able to vacuum my hardwood floors for an hour and a half before it needs to return back to the base to be recharged. Overall, I’m happy with this vacuum and hope to get great service from it.

Improvement over i7. Happy with it.

I also own the i7 without the self emptying station. I was happy with that one as it did an ok job, but as with most robots were clumsy when a new obstacle is encountered. The dust bin is small and would need frequent emptying depending on how active its particular area has been. I regrated not having the i7+. It seems the i8+ improves on the i7 with better cameras and more intelligent mapping. The i8 definitely seems to bounce around much less randomly than the i7 did especially when it ran through the first few mapping runs. The i8 sounds a little less noisy when being run. Obviously not as quite in the same room, but when the i7 was being run on the first floor and we were upstairs, we heard it do its thing, but with the i8 I had to look down stairs a couple of times to see if it was still going while over carpet. But over bare floors the noise difference was slightly less discernable.
One noticeable difference with the i8 is when it detected more junk being sucked up it would stop and go back and forth over the same spot until less debris was being picked up then it would move on. I never noticed the i7 do that. So it does a slightly better job in that regard. The battery is supposed to be a bit larger in the i8 but I haven't been able to test that because the size of the area (three rooms) are taken care of before juice runs out even on the i7. So I have no complaints there. The biggest benefit with the i8+ is the self emptying station. It is great not having to unload the bin. 2 downsides i have found with the station are:
#1: it is LOUD when emptying it. I can definitely hear this from upstairs. But it is relatively brief and about on par with our upright so it's no dealbreaker.
#2: it uses bags that even our upright does not use... so added costs (and unknowing how readily available bags will be).
Aside from that I have found the i8+ to be a satisfactory improvement over the i7. Now to have them battle one another.

The iRobot Roomba i8+ came in at a great value, and has done a really good job keeping the floors in our home quite clean! I have been using this for a couple of weeks and I have to say I am very impressed with this little robot vacuum! Setup was a breeze and it was up and running in under 10 minutes which was such a relief, I expected a very cumbersome setup process but that was definitely not the case. After letting it charge for a bit it ran through the first run of our house in about an hour. It did a great job of mapping out every area, and the false wall system kept it out of my daughters room just like we wanted. We have it setup to run every afternoon while no one is home and so far it has ran without incident! Our floors are always clean and we never have to think about it, except to change the bags in the container! The only negatives I have are the fact that it is extremely loud while running, and the bags are a little expensive and I feel like the waste bin could be designed to not need a bag to save the consumer some money long term. Overall however this is an amazing device and cleans all floor types very well!

App easy to use
Able to navigate rugs that previous robo-vacs couldn’t
No mess disposable dirt bags in base station
Cons:

Found hair wrapped up around rollers after first cleaning.
Full Review:
This is the third robot vacuum I’ve owned. The first one was the dumb type that bounced off walls until the battery was low. The second had Lidar navigation. This will be my first with self emptying. I have my doubts on mapping ability without Lidar, but lets see how it does.
Setup:
The unit was packaged well, boxes were labeled nicely with an easy to follow instruction card right on top. I followed the instructions and got the I8+ ready.
The phone app was just as easy to install on my android, no issues. Ran the app, it found the Roomba, and I continued to follow the instructions in the app.
First run (mapping):
I decided to do a mapping run first instead of jumping right into a cleaning run. It took about 3 tries before the Roomba actually made it out of the laundry room. (This could have been because I had the charging/base station in a small room, and didn’t have the recommended clearances around the base station). Once it made it out of the room it was fine. I expected it to just randomly drive around while mapping, but it looked like it was doing an actual cleaning, and was driving straight lines back and forth. It also would hit everything it drove towards, which I guess without lidar it doesn’t know where all the walls are, until the maps are built. After the mapping run was done, it returned to the base station and within a few minutes I had a notification that the map was complete. I had doubts about the mapping ability without lidar, so I was surprised to see a pretty accurate floor plan map.
After the first mapping run when trying to setup room dividers in the app, I would place a divider, hit save, and 2 or 3 other dividers that were already set would disappear. This went on for about 20 minutes until I was able to get all dividers set as I wanted. This problem might be related to our home being ‘open concept’ with basically one room that is kitchen, dining, and living room. I was trying to divide that one ‘room’ into 3 or 4 sections as the living room is carpet and the others are hardwood.
Second run (cleaning):
First cleaning which shows 781 sq ft took 3:08 (1:44 cleaning and 1:24 charging). Our main floor is probably ½ hardwood and ½ carpet. I was impressed with the amount of dirt in the bag after cleaning (Even though the previous robo-vac runs daily on the same floor). Our previous robo-vac was unable to navigate on and over a rug which prevented it from cleaning about ⅓ of the main floor. The Roomba has no problem with this rug. This is a big PRO for me, now we have a vacuum that can reach the entire main floor of our house. I was however, disappointed to find hair wrapped around the better bar after 1 cleaning. I thought one of the advantages of the dual rubber beaters was less tangles than the single bristle type. Time will tell if this becomes an issue that I have to clean the beater bar daily or not.
Third run (cleaning):
Only things additional to note would be, the i8+ seems to have learned from the first run how long it would take to do the full cleaning. When it went back to charge during the clean cycle, it didn’t do a full charge, it appears to have charged just enough to finish the cleaning cycle. Kudo’s to the programming staff if this is the case. I’m always amazed at small little things programmers can pull off.
The mapping of where walls are seems to prevent the Roomba from running into those walls during cleaning, but for instance our kitchen island is not mapped at all on the maps, so the Roomba will bump into it as it cleans. I'll have to see if the map updates itself any better to prevent this.
Conclusion:
The best part of a robot vacuum should be that you can forget it is even there. My previous vac’s would get stuck in random spots, weren’t able to reach some areas, almost daily i’d have to clean hair from the bristle beater bars, empty the bin every few days, etc, etc. I couldn’t forget that I had a vacuum. So far what I've seen with the I8+ is I might just forget it is there, other than an occasional cleaning or dirt bag change. If I could give half stars, I’d rate this at 4.5 stars. Only deducting ½ star for the issues when I was trying to set up room dividers. Otherwise I am happy with the I8+ and look forward to forgetting that I have it.
