Don’t waste your money
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have owned this Vac for about 18 months and there has yet to be a time where I thought it did a good job. It almost never makes it back to home base, does not clean well, and dumbly bumps into anything any everything. I could not recommend this product any less.

Never purchasing Roomba again
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Loved the Roomba for the first 4 weeks then it became tedious to find it after repeatedly getting stuck. Finally got on the line with Roomba support and the first support person hung up on us in the middle of troubleshooting. Wait time was 30 min to get connected.

DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve owned several iRobot vacuums over the years and that have just been disappointing me. The best one I’ve had was the iRobot 980. I’ve also had the j7+ and now the j9+. They have just really disappointed me. They have only lasted me 1 year and then they all just stop working. The j9+ I was hoping to be better but after only 3 days of use it broke and couldn’t be fixed and they was on back order so I couldn’t even get another one. So I just went to a ecovacs robot and it is by far better then the iRobot is now.

Disappointed
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This robot has not successfully emptied itself once. I receive error messages that the bag is full or that the base is clogged, neither of which is true. I have reached out to customer care with no help.

Total waste of $$
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Total waste of money, navigation issues and motor head failed after 4 months. Best Buy only takes returns 60 days! The manufacturer offered to send replacement parts, expecting me to make the repair. $600 down the drain. Shame on Best Buy and Roomba for not exchanging it!

Amazing technology here
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is some serious technology. I can't believe how well this works and that it can actually make it's way back to the base, empty itself and then continue on cleaning the house. Truly incredible. I have had an iRobot before (maybe 6 years ago or so) and it's like night and day to how well this J9+ works. Setup was simple and straightforward. I was able to download the app on to mine and my wife's phone and it can be run from either phone. So cool that either one of us can fire this up and clean the house from wherever we currently are. I vacuumed the living room from work, 25 miles away yesterday. The app is easy to use and understand. I love how it learns the house as it goes. We haven't had it long enough to learn the whole house but it's well on it's way. My last iRobot kinda took off on it's own and eventually made it's way around the whole place. This one methodically goes back and forth and obviously is missing nothing. We have 5 cats, and there are toys all over the floor. The amount of cat hair that is around the house is incredible and the amount this picks up is astounding. We've begun to just trust it and run it when we're not home. iRobot actually guarantees a free replacement if it accidently goes over and picks up a pet mess. Luckliy we don't have an issue with that here but it's a nice guarantee in case it ever happens. The sound of it emptying it's load in the the base (which actually has a small standard looking bag inside) is pretty loud and makes the entire cat population in the house scatter. But it doesn't take long before it's off to continue it's job. While actually vacuuming, the sound is not very loud at all compared to standard vacuums that make all the cats run and hide. None of the cats ride around on it yet but 2 of our 5 have shown possible future interest in it. I can only hope. We do have mostly hardwood floors with a couple area rugs in the living room and hallway. It has no problem moving off the wood to the carpet and back without skipping a beat. Highly recommend this and have been talking it up at work to all my coworkers.

iRobot j9 complete failure and waste of money
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a terrible product. It has never worked since I bought it. It leaves dirt on the floor particularly at the foot of the base. The unit frequently does in the middle of the floor and doesn’t follow the map on the app. Very poor product for the more than $600 price point.

Flexible scheduling, easy map setup, good performa
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Initial setup was quick and easy, with no issues getting the j9 connected to my wifi. After a quick software/firmware update, it was ready to go. Aside from plugging the base in, there was nothing to assemble, and they didn’t overload the vac/base with annoying stickers that needed to be removed. Let it charge for a bit & then send it on a mapping run. The mapping run took about 20 minutes or so for our 1100 sq ft main floor. Once complete, it tries to identify the different rooms of your home, and it does a fairly good job. I only had to adjust a couple of them. Making adjustments to rooms is very easy, and MUCH easier than with one of their competitors. Instead of having to draw a ‘box’ to identify a room, you simply add a room divider. Boom. Simple. It even makes a guess at the room names, which it was okay at, but I needed to adjust those a bit more. Then you can add ‘Keep Out’ and ‘Clean’ Zones. Keep Out is, well, duh… A Clean Zone is just an area that you want the j9 to pay extra attention to, like in front of the kitchen counters. Overall, the mapping process is super easy! Scheduling is also very flexible. Much more flexible than a competing product that I have. You can schedule the entire house, specific rooms, Clean Zones, or even a combination of room(s) and Clean Zones. You can run multiple schedules per day, as long as you allow a minimum of 3 hours between scheduled times. You can even alter the suction and number of passes (1 or 2) for each schedule. Very nice! Noise while vacuuming isn’t too bad, around 65dB, but it jumps up to 80+ when the vac docks and empties its dustbin via the Clean Base feature. It’s definitely loud, so run your schedules accordingly. Speaking of the Clean Base feature, the base uses old school type vacuum bags, as opposed to a simple canister that can just be emptied. The bags seem rather small, so I’m not sure how often they’ll need to be replaced, but iRobot branded bags are anywhere from $15-$20 for a three pack. Depending on how often you need to replace the bag, this could add up. Not a fan of that particular design. Definitely prefer the competitors design that just uses a dustbin & washable filter. Cleaning performance is pretty good in open areas, but only so-so along walls/counters/etc… I put some flour down against the kitchen cabinets and it left about a 1 inch path next to the cabinet when I told it to hit this as a ‘Clean Zone’, but it did get it all when it ran through as a ‘room’ cleaning. Seems a bit backwards to me, but whatever. Overall, if this vac is one in your price range, it’s really hard to beat.

Horrible
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Horrible for the price we paid. Always says it’s clogged and there’s no clog. Brush won’t spin to clean and it’s going in circles today. This will be the last one I ever purchase.

Good suction & self-emptying, clear clutter first!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall, this is another great robot vacuum from iRobot, but despite having a camera/improved suction and pickup capability, it still suffers with running into things on the floor and/or getting caught on cords and other low-lying items that are left on the floor. I've used other j-series robots from iRobot and this is the best iRobot for vacuuming quality and battery life per run. The self cleaning dock works well, but it's quite loud. PROS: The j9 does a great job of vacuuming all of the hair, dust, dirt and crumbs off my carpet and tile floors. Compared to the other j-series iRobot I own, the j9 has a much stronger suction capability and picks up far more hair and other detritus from my carpets than my other vacuum. The j9 generally was able to clean 70% of the area on the first charge, and successfully navigated itself back to the dock to recharge before resuming cleaning. The j9 comes with an extra bag in the box, and after a week of cleaning, I anticipate I probably won't need to change the bag for at least 4-5 months. The iRobot app has a good UI/UX and I was easily able to program and setup the vacuum the first time, and set a weekly schedule to have the j9 automatically vacuum when I'm not home. CONS: I have to make sure I remember to clear up any/all small clutter, cords and papers on the floor before the vacuum runs. The j9's camera and software is not "smart" enough to see small items on the floor or anything that's too thin or light to be detected by the robot's bump sensors. I also have to remember to clean the rollers, because the robot does such a good job of sucking up hair, but it doesn't do very well at keeping the rollers from getting wrapped up in the hair, which is similar to my experience with my prior iRobots.

Don’t waste your $$
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This has been the worst iRobot product I’ve ever owned. Sorry I spent this much on a subpar product. It rarely works as it should. It ALWAYS needs rebooting or reconnecting. It’s absolutely worthless.

Don’t do it!! So many errors constantly.
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It’s the worst. Can’t seem to get through one vacuum session without some type of error requiring my attention. So much happier with the inexpensive eufy that I had previously.

My new favorite thing
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I always seem to be in the market for a robot vacuum. I've tried many before, but have eventually had to give up each one due to my youngest having a deep fear of robots. She has gone full-on terror scream mode. I figured I'd give it another shot with this one and I do not regret it. We have introduced her and our bot does not seem super menacing so I think she's onboard to get us a little time back in our lives with the help of our new iRobot. This iRobot Roomba j9+ Self-Emptying Robot Vacuum is the easiest one to use I have found so far. It's pattern seems to be a bit more intentional and less erratic, which I think will help my daughter not think that it is out to get her. My cats can also plan their escape without fear that it will suddenly dart across their path as they try to go to a different part of the room away from it. Setup Setup was simple enough. Plug it in and let it charge. The app itself was intuitive and easily found the new vacuum and walked me through connecting it to my network. Unfortunately, it then required a software update. This took the better part of the day. I monitored the app periodically looking for progress because I had hoped to run the vacuum while my 4 year old was at school to avoid her shrieks of terror. No such luck. It was about 8 hours in total. When I got to the point of less than 1 minute, I gave up after 30 and restarted the app. It was immediately ready. My suggestion would be restart sooner if you run into the same challenge. I felt like I might mess up the progress and restart the clock if I closed the app, but I don't think that's the case. So be prepared for the wait and start in advance of when you want to use it, but hopefully I'm an edge case and just needed to restart the app. Time The vacuum works quickly. I've seen the battery die on many others before they have completed several rooms, but that doesn't appear to be a problem with this robot vacuum. I'm super excited to see if I can manage to get it to complete the entire house on a single charge. I'm anticipating it may require two rounds, but a single round should cover the primary living spaces so it's a good fit for us. Battery Life The battery life is strong. I appreciate that the app let me see how much battery was left this morning when I went to check on it. I had hoped to vacuum another area of the house but it had used much of the battery vacuuming the other space overnight and getting trapped. It still had enough battery to return home once I rescued it which is great. I've seen other products where the battery dies if not sitting on the charging station all the time, so it's nice to know this can hold some of the battery life even if trapped for a long period of time. Stuck much? I let it run overnight to avoid terrorizing children, which worked great. It did require help once before I went to bed and got stuck again overnight, but it managed to successfully vacuum the living room before doing so. I think it just got lost on its way back to the base. I've watched it manage to navigate wires and other objects to maneuver around them for a great cleaning, so I'm impressed so far. Noise This one is a loud one. No louder than a traditional vacuum, but I have had another robot vacuum that was a bit quieter. This isn't one we would try to use after the kids go to bed because of the volume level. The App Overall, I love the app. It's intuitive and simple. I've seen others that are overly complicated and super time consuming to navigate. This one is great and far superior to others I have seen. I love that I don't have to map my house before it will even start working. That's a huge improvement over other products. The app includes lots of options: - Time elapsed - Schedule - Option for do not disturb - Battery Life - Map of your home - Pause/Play button - Product Settings - Product Health Lots of options to get the most out of your vacuum but super easy in that you don't need to explore all the options unless you really want to. You can simply click the option to vacuum everywhere and it does. It's amazing. Clean the vacuum This roomba also comes with a tower that allows the vacuum to self-empty, which is a big plus. Overall, I'm really enjoying the new vacuum. It seems far more reliable than others we've used in the past. It's very straight-forward and reliable. No crazy surprises when it suddenly starts running a schedule that you didn't realize was set and scare your child. Cleaning it is even easier. Robot vacuums have come a long way over the years and I highly recommend this one.

**** Worst vacuum ever ****
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.DO NOT BUY THIS, few reasons 1) if you have a wifi mesh network, and you relocate the base iRobot is stumped and cannot connect to base 2) First Map run takes forever, it is still running for > 45 mins for a 2000 sq ft floor

Game Changer for house cleaning
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So we’re fairly new to these robot vacuums, I owned a cheaper one back in the day that was nowhere near this advanced. I’d be lucky if it didn’t get stuck after 5 mins of running or if it could get remotely close to its base if it ever made it that long after a cleaning. Long story short, we didn’t use it much because it wasn’t worth it. I have to say my experience with this Roomba is nothing close to that. What a spectacular design and research that went into this. I’m very impressed this thing rarely gets stuck anywhere. I’m not just talking about on edges or after running over a bump and getting stuck, I mean this thing will get caught in between 4 legs of a chair that are only a couple of inches between the robot and the legs, and still gets out. I’m also impressed with the sucking power for a portable vacuum, we have 2 dogs that shed a lot (small hair and long hair) and it does a great job at cleaning them up. As for the technology in this thing, I’m pretty blown away. It maps your house out for you and does a pretty good job at showing you the digital version of it. It will tell you the dirty parts of the house by showing you which rooms were dirtiest! That’s crazy. It can take a couple of times running it to learn your house, but it took us only once really. The sensors work well as it doesn’t just ram into thing, but can detect when there is an object in front of it and it slowly approaches it. The battery life is also impressive, it’ll run for around 2-3 hours and can be fully charged in 5-6 hours and it spends a good amount of time in each room. You also get live alerts on your phone when an issue occurs with your Roomba, so its not just sitting there stranded waiting for you to figure it out. It will even send you to a video of how to fix the issue. The app is packed full of features, including seeing the history of cleaning, total square footage area cleaned, check your product health including seeing how full your disposable bag is, among many other helpful things. The only downsides to this Roomba we’ve seen so far is that its made a mess when it was emptying itself out into the base, it has only happened once so hopefully it was just a fluke. It also has some trouble picking things up off a hard floor because it’ll just push it away. Minor issues though compared to the all the benefits this iRobot has to offer. Overall the experience is wonderful, even though its only been a short time of using it, its all an automated experience. All we do is make sure random stuff is off the floor before it’s scheduled to come on, and it does the rest. Its nice coming home to seeing those fresh straight vacuum lines on the carpet every day, knowing your carpet has been recently cleaned. Normally our regular vacuums bother our dogs, but this surprisingly doesn’t really affect them at all.
