"Isolate and Medicate" hits hard
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Usually when a band reaches their sixth studio album, they start experimenting with their sound in order to stay relevant -- especially if they're a post-grunge band, since post-grunge is steadily being replaced with more electronic sounds. Seether, on the other hand, just seems to keep getting better. "Isolate and Medicate" hits even harder than their previous album "Holding On To Strings Better Left to Fray" (which was also produced by Stone Temple Pilots producer Brendan O'Brien). Most of the 14 tracks here hit extremely hard, and even ballads like "Nobody Praying For Me" manage to keep the rock going without interruption Lead singer Shaun Morgan is certainly showing signs of maturity in his vocals and lyrics. While Morgan experiments quite often with falsetto, it surprisingly works, despite his deep, almost gravely voice. The music, once again, shows producer O'Brien's touch -- from the cleaner guitars and well-executed harmonies on "Same D**n Life" to the feel-good grooves of "Goodbye Tonight", which features fellow South African band Van Coke Kartel. If you're not familiar with Seether, this is a perfect introduction to the band. Their sound is the strongest it's ever been here, the lyrics and music are remarkable, and it's accessible to newcomers and fans alike. While there aren't any tracks similar to their previous hits like "Rise Above This" or the Amy Lee duet "Broken", this isn't a bad thing. Though some bands choose to stick with what works, Seether is ready to rock without sacrificing their sound. Even though this just came out, I'm already excited to see what they'll do next. DELUXE EDITION NOTE: The deluxe edition of "Isolate and Medicate" comes with a t-shirt that has the "Words as Weapons" single cover art on it, which only adds to the value of this set.

Solid CD w/ cool t-shirt
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After Seether's poppy last album, holding onto strings..., they returned with a solid rock single in words as weapons. Isolate and medicate has a few more rocking tunes than their last album but still has a few clunkers that I skip over when listening to the album. The bonus tracks aren't as good as they normally are but I like the t shirt that came with this bundle.
