Awesome for sleep tracking and resting heart rate!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really am pleased with the jawbone up3. I wanted a tracker that tracked my sleep and my resting heart rate. This does exactly that. The jawbone app is just amazing! One complaint, the up3 loses sync with my phone about 1 time a day and takes several minutes to sync again. I really believe you can't go wrong with this activity tracker!!!

Loving my new UP3 Unit
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Recently received my Jawbone UP3 and have to say I have been blown away. For starters, it's sleek design fits comfortably around my wrist. I have been most impressed with the sleep tracking capabilities and the fitness functions. The companion app for the iPhone is simply icing on the cake - very user friendly and intuitive. Overall, I would gladly purchase this item again and will be recommending to my health minded friends.

Great Product at a Great price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been using UP products since they came out, starting with the original UP band, then transitioned to UP 24, and now just got my UP 3. Each time a new band is released, it just gets better and better. I love the "one size first all" feature of the UP 3--huge improvement over the previous bands. It's a lot more comfortable to wear than the Fitbit, and honestly I think the quality and design of the product is much higher than the Fitbit. If you're looking for the best quality fitness tracking band, this is the one you need to get. Definitely would recommend this band!

Big promises, HUGE disappointment
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My husband pre-ordered in Nov. 2014 as a Christmas gift for me (at that time it said it would arrive by mid-December). It didn't arrive until April 2015. After months of waiting, I was very excited. For the first few days it seemed to work well --my only complaints were with the iPhone app. The app is not easy to use. It keeps one long running history of events. You can only view your sleep data one night at a time -- you can't easily view/compare data, for example, from last night to the night before. The food tracker is terrible. If you input several foods at the same time, you can't see the foods or access them to edit because the entry shows up on a hourly timeline chart. In other words, if you don't input what time you ate the food, every entry shows up at the same time food was inputted. On the timeline, each entry is stacked on top of each other so the only entry you can access is the most recent. There are no other view options -- trust me i tried. Also, you can't easily go back to see a past day entries. But enough with the app. If it was only issue, I could deal. Unfortunately it's not. You must manually double-tap the band to switch from sleep to awake and vice versa. The double tap has never worked for me. I have to double tap it at least 10-20 times before it does anything. There is no continuous HR monitoring. It checks your HR just once, just before you wake up (tHis "resting" HR is supposed to be an indicator of your health). Of course, the accuracy of your resting HR depends on you double tapping the band the very second you wake up. Because I am frantically double tapping a million times before I get out of bed, it raising my resting HR measurement. You can use the app to switch to sleep mode from your phone but you can't do the same for awake mode. It also doesn't sync regularly with my iPhone 6 although it's supposed to. There is no "manual sync" option to sync data on command when I want to view data on my phone. Instead, I am at the whim of whenever it wants to sync (which doesn't happen automatically when you open the app). To remedy this, Jawbone instructs you check your settings, restart your phone, and do a soft reset of the device. Why not just have a manual sync option in the app? But the last straw for me was the battery life. It has never lasted 6 days. I turned off all of the vibrating activity alarms and everything but the battery would only last a 1-2 days. Yesterday it died after only 10 hours which I didn't discover until i went to bed and the app wouldn't allow me to manually (i've given up on the double tap) turn to sleep mode but didn't tell me why. One last thing - the band is impossible to put on by yourself because of the slide in clasp that you have to do using only one hand. The band itself is not very comfortable and the metal loop jabs into my skin and is uncomfortable for typing. I've had it with this thing. Will be promptly returning.

Needs non-mobile data entry
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This fitness tracker was to replace a BodyMedia armband-type fitness tracker. Jawbone purchased and killed the armband products and I purchased this model based on positive reviews and the hope that Jawbone might have integrated some of the benefits of BodyMedia. My wife could not get use to wearing a fitness tracker around her wrist while she slept (sleep tracking was one of her favorite BodyMedia features) and occasionally scraped the metal in the bracelet against her skin. The biggest issue for her was having to do all data entry from her little iPhone 5 instead of from a desktop computer. In the end we returned the UP3 and may not bother with any fitness trackers unless someone revives the armband format. I'd still recommend this product to anyone who doesn't mind a bracelet style fitness tracker and has a tablet for ease of data entry.

Disappointing...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We recently received our UP3 bands and were so excited for all of the amazing features we were promised in the looooooong wait for the bands. However, as we use them, we are disappointed time and again. I was the most excited about the heart rate monitoring while I'm working out (I have difficulties with cardio workouts), and the Smart Alarm feature (so I can wake up feeling refreshed). Turns out, the band doesn't monitor heart rate constantly as originally promised, only first thing in the morning to give you your daily "Resting Heart Rate". Now all of the information regarding the UP3 states "resting heart rate", but originally, it was simply a "heart rate monitor", and implied constant monitoring. The Smart Alarm should wake me up during light sleep, and vary in the time that it wakes me up in the morning (I gave it a 20 minute window), depending on my level of sleep. But every morning, it wakes me at exactly the same time--precisely 20 minutes before my set alarm, right in the middle of REM sleep. Which is absolutely the worst time to be woken up. Aside from these two major disappointments, I have been frustrated with several other of its basic features as well. I am supposed to be able to tap the band to activate or enter various modes/entries, but this feature either isn't available (for entering entries), or works terribly. I have to tap it repeatedly (and often simply give up and use the app) just to wake it up. Once it is awake, I can only switch between "sleep" and "awake" modes. I cannot get it to enter an activity mode, or anything else, even when I do get it to "wake up" by tapping on it. Another frustration we have with our UP3s is that they seem to vibrate for a number of reasons, a number of different ways, with little to no indication as to why. When the band does show an indicator light, if I do not happen to be looking directly at it before it begins buzzing, I miss the icon indicating why it is buzzing because it isn't lit for but a second, though it continues to vibrate. On the other hand, it's possible that it simply does not light up like it is supposed to at all when it is buzzing, as I have been looking at it when it buzzes at me, and nothing is lit up. It buzzed at me just this morning, 3 long buzzes, and no clue what it was trying to tell me. I haven't reached a goal, I wasn't idle for the set 30 minutes, I didn't have an alarm or a reminder set... it just vibrated in a way that it hadn't before. I was also excited about the features that might tell me more about myself, whether the sensors can indicate if I need water, how my heart is doing, or whatever all of the fancy bio-impedence, skin and ambient temperature sensors are supposed to know/collect, but the data is nowhere to be found. I not see it, it isn't tracked, and I can't learn from it. What is their purpose, if they are not helping me learn from them? Additionally, I find the band to be incredibly uncomfortable. I have a very small wrist (6" above the knob in my wrist where I wear it) and while I am able to make it tight, so it does technically "fit", the inflexible top is too long so does not sit snugly around my wrist. I am constantly having to twist it back into place. My husband's wrist is larger and his seems to fit just fine, so I would say smaller wrists may just cause an issue. All-in-all the UP3 has been a very expensive disappointment. It seems that all it does is track my steps and give me one heart rate reading a day. Which, since I'm not learning anything about that, that hardly seems like something I need. So far there has been no indication from Jawbone that there will be a firmware update that might improve the feedback or usability of the UP3. I am strongly considering getting the Fitbit Charge HR and returning this one, if there isn't a guarantee of the UP3 getting updates that seriously improve it.

Great Improvement
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently upgraded to the Up3 from the Up24, It's a great improvement. Music more ergonimic on my arm. I can wear it while using the computer. I'm appreciative of the improvement of the app as well. It's becoming much more intelligent and intuitive. After forgetting to place in my workout, it asked me if I had worked out in that time window. Cool little things like that, as well as an apparent increase in durability have left me happy.

activity tracking sucks, sleep mode good
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My old jawbone UP24 (the wrap style) was much better at tracking activity. Unless all you do for activity is walk, run, or an activity that includes swinging arms, this band is pretty useless for tracking activity. In the summer I ride my bike mostly. The UP3 can do absolutely nothing with this. A 25 mile ride may track 400 steps if lucky. I had to lower my goal to 12000 steps and am still not hitting it with daily bike rides of 20 miles. I did not even hit it on a 54 mile bike ride. I even have it paired to Map my ride so it understands and shows a biking activity - yet you get no credit towards your goal. Also when I change the activity effort from easy to in the zone or difficult it actually lowers the calorie burn?!?!? Bands keeps losing connectivity to that phone app. Have to constantly re-pair device. As I type this, my band is now not paired to my device, and appears to be unable to pair with it - have been trying for 30 minutes now. I did work with jawbone support and went through many steps to "calibrate" band (there is no calibrate) so it could better track my activity. Also other steps to insure latest app and firmware on band and phone - to no avail. Sleep feature is good. I am really bummed about this as i like the look of the UP3. I can pair it with other bracelets and it looks like it belongs. boo hiss on their developers. Why say you can link to all these other 3rd party apps when you can do nothing with the information.

Good product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I liked that there where how much it can do and that the wrist band was adjustable. Also there was a website and app that work really well with the up jawbone which was nice to us to keep track of my steps and sleep.

A complete disappointment so far
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This device fails on almost every level. The good: The app is great. It provides not only data, but also practical advice on what to do with the data. The band itself is attractive and small. The bad: Pretty much everything else. The steps are not accurate. The calorie burn is not accurate. The band is supposed to provide resting heart rate when you wake up. It provides this even if you are not wearing the band, which makes all of those numbers suspect as well. It does not make use of any of the sensors to calculate calorie burn, it only uses the accelorometer for counting steps and the info you put in for workouts to calculate calorie burns, and it does that poorly. The clasp on the band continuously comes open for many people. It is difficult to get the band to recognize a double tap to change modes. You have to put the band in sleep mode or else make an entry for sleep mode the next morning...for whatever reason, it is unable to recognize sleep until you give it a time period to look in, and then it records light sleep while you're awake watching TV. The list goes on. Supposedly there will be a future update from Jawbone to unlock the rest of the sensors and to provide more functionality (and accuracy, perhaps?) but Jawbone has not provided a time frame beyond "soon." This is probably the same "soon" time frame in which they shipped their pre-orders...and that took 6 months beyond the date they originally promised.

Cool but...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My UP24 broke due to the wrap design getting caught in snug sleeves over the winter. I was still under warranty and decided to take advantage of upgrading to UP3 since at the time I was not going to pay much. I picked Jawbone originally because I did not need a display but did like the bluetooth with my phone. PROS - The greater sleep detail is interesting. I still enjoy the coaching. The resting heart rate is interesting as another gage of fitness. CONS - I do think the design is lacking and overpriced when I have to tap the device many times to get it to switch modes (tapping it many, many times!). Closure for band is a challenge to use and while it is not sharp is still prominent enough to snag on clothing - damage in the few short weeks I've had it already. And I will not often carry my phone for a workout to start a workout on the spot - I used to use the feature to initiate a workout on the device - but it does not matter significantly to me. I just won't log workouts and rely on steps & my knowledge that I worked out.

Won't Stay On!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Works well. Set-up was easy. Battery claims are 7-10 days, but it only lasted 5 days. My biggest problem is that it VERY easily unclasps and falls off my wrist. I've had it for a week, and it's fallen off at least 5 times. In a couple of cases, I didn't feel it fall off, so I was lucky to have noticed it in time to find it. Unless they find a way to better secure the unit to customers' wrists, don't spend money on it. I am returning it.

Great for beginner fitness tracker
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love what this does. It tracks everything from sleep even the different cycles, steps, workouts, weight, drinks of water, and food.! This is an excellent and styllish little fitness tracker. However, the price is a little pricey. I wish it was a little less expensive. The charger works fine. It is a little bit of hassle to get the right connection but its ok.

Poor design and functionality
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just got off the phone with Jawbone, after 6 months of waiting for my pre-ordered UP3 everything possible has failed. The touch face doesn't respond, battery last only 3 days, NOT WATERPROOF, clasp is cheaply built, removed features, the device can only handle two modes and you need to do everything else via your phone, and added useless features. Even with a public statement from the CEO saying they will fully return your UP if you bought it for its waterproofing no questions asked, but you still have to pay for the shipping back ($20-30). I have backed Jawbone from day 1 with the beta UP and I have had 5 replacements due to the device failing, and they have always paid for the return shipping. I stuck with them because their customer service was so good, now they just don't care. This device is no better then the UP2 and that is half the price, the UP2 is no better the any other tracker (fitbit, shine, vivosmart). So due to Jawbone not delivering on the product they promised, I am still out $20-30 to ship it back to them. They have lost 2 backers that have been on their side since day 1 over two years ago... way to go Jawbone.
