    UP3 needs improvements

The UP3 makes a lot of promises as far as features go, but it needs improvement as it still does not offer active heart rate tracking, only passive when you're still or sleeping. Too often it does not track sleep correctly, such as waking up in the middle of the night, and can report incorrect distance traveled. The app does have a nice interface and the band isn't obtrusive, but if you want a screen for stats this band is not for you.

    Terrible Device

Just got off the phone with Jawbone, after 3 months of waiting for my pre-ordered UP3 everything possible has failed. The touch face doesn't respond, battery last only 3 days, NOT WATERPROOF, clasp is cheaply built, removed features, the device can only handle two modes and you need to do everything else via your phone, and added useless features. This device changes modes on it's own, therefore none of my sleep was tracked. I paid $170 for a device that does nothing it was supposed to do. I'm disappointed that I waited so long for such a disaster. Please listen to the warnings and save your money, plus you don't get shipping back, so your out $30, original shipment and cost to return.

Started with UP2 worked great fro a year then died. Had the purchase protection plan so got the UP3 and it it lasted two months. Was hooking up to charge and it just died. Replace with another UP3 and oddly enough it just did the same thing this morning when I set it up to charge. Now the battery still had a couple of days left but I usually try to charge it when I have the time. Also discovered it does not track steps very accurately if you happen to be using trekking poles but lets be honest not sure how accurate these things are any ways. I use it to track steps and sleep never messed with the calorie input and lets be honest heart rate tracking can't be accurate either. If you get one make sure you get the product protection plan well worth the money. I repeat get the product protection plan.

    Better Than a Fitbit

The understated elegant styling makes it nice to wear in any setting and the app is much better than fitbit's. It offers all the functionality you could want in a fitness tracker, including heart rate, steps, sleep, detailed food logging and more.

Does what a fitness tracker has to do. It tracks steos, Calories, Heartbeat and especially sleep. Sleep tracking was my primary objective while buying this. Up3 gets all information about my sleep and is helping me become healthy.

    Avoid this product

Quick Review: Pros: *UP App Cons: *Tapping to adjust mode *Band clasp *Quality *Price When I heard about the new UP3 I pre-ordered it with the highest hopes for the product. I have had the band about 3 weeks now and it is a very poor quality. The band clasp is terrible for a couple reasons; 1) if you move in your sleep it will come unclasp and fall off, 2) because of the shape it gets hooked on everything that comes near the band, 3) the adjustabllity is terrible, when it is set it stays for a short time then loosens to position the clasp is able to hold. When taping on the UP3 it is suppose to respond back so you are able to adjust the mode it is in, the response is terrible at best. To change the mode you have to do it on the UP app for your phone. The best thing about the UP3 is the phone app, and it is mediocre at best. For the price of this band it should be much better than it is. The UP3 consists of poor quality and poor execution. I would not recommend this product to anyone.

I got my first UP3 through a review program run buy another retailer. In five weeks, the back of the panel fell off and rendered it unusable. After protracted talks and e-mails with Jawbone, they sent me another one. This one worked great at first, but I noticed the charges lasted a shorter and shorter period of time. Now it will not charge at all and I have tried with two different chargers on multiple devices. I had a Fitbit and other than being a little clunkier style-wise and not as accurate on sleep, it was far and away superior to this piece of junk. I wouldn't take another one if the gave it to me for free.

    Disappointed

Don't waste your money on this product. If you're really enthusiastic about Jawbone UP products, wait for UP4. It's clear Jawbone put the product out too early; neither the software nor hardware are ready for consumers. ***Heart Rate Monitor: (2)*** -If you're looking for a product that monitors your daily heart rate activity, it isn't this product. -This is really a "resting heart rate" monitor. UP3 records your resting heart rate once, when you up, then it turns off. No other data. ***Step Tracker: (0)*** -In accurate. For example, by the time I wake up I've already logged 30 steps. By the time I brush my teeth, shower, etc., 200 steps. Take the train to work, 1,500 steps. By the time I finish work, at my very sedentary job, I've already reached my very ambitious goal of 3,000 steps. The device can't distinguish between non-step related activities (sleeping/showering/riding a train/typing) and walking. ***Sleep Tracker: (4)*** -No complaints. It seems to generally know when I'm sleeping, even when I forget to set it. -I can only assume the measurements are accurate, but how could I dispute it? ***Wrist band: (3)*** -Quality of the band is great. -That latch that holds the band to your arm a bit flimsy even after just a week of using it. You WILL need to readjust the fit of this item at least once a day. You need the band to be somewhat tight because the sensors have to touch your skin. What you'll notice after several hours, is that the device starts off loose, then it begins rotating around your wrist. This is not good, because the sensor should be on the same as your thumb (per the instructions). ***Waterproof: (0)*** -Initially Jawbone stated that this product would be waterproof. 6 months later, the company reintroduced the product as splash proof. -The big selling point at least for me, a swimmer, was having this feature. But after receiving the $40 discount, the rest picked up by my company, how could I pass up the deal of having a really cool "sleep tracker" for $20? To be honest, I just don't trust the company anymore. They promised the moon and sky, and delivered pebbles. I would have much rather preferred them to keep the product for another 6 months, deliver a "solid" step tracker, and a "real" heart rate monitor even if they couldn't produce a waterproof product. I would have been disappointed, but I would have at least been satisfied that I had a "functional" product. Perhaps Jawbone should have spent less time developing UP4 when they had an obvious failing UP3. Jawbone Enthusiasts, wait for UP4. For me, UP3 has been quite the let "DOWN."

It's AWESOME! Very sleek and comfy on my wrist. Able to track all my progress working out as well as sleep and rest. Never had another tool to do it before so pretty happy being able to do it with this. I've had it for a few days now and collecting the data is so cool.

I don't recommend banging it against walls for starters. I hand a few oops during my work time. I think my band's top casing started to wear off. Then it decided to give up charging after a while. I used it maybe 4 months before it wouldn't charge and I gave up using my Jawbone. Oh and their servers are just as fragile. Every (Tuesday?) I had to use Twitter @Jawbone and tell them their servers are down. The food database shuts down so recording foods is pointless on Jawbone. So you might as well skip using the app now and then. What a perfect waste of $150.

After a 5 months wait, this product has zero waterproofing, and known issue being a clasp that snaps off. So after having mine a week the clasp broke off and disappeared somewhere. The touch sensor was terrible on the interface, the taptic feedback is barely noticeable this device was a massive disappointment on all fronts, the customer service is also terrible, don't expect them to follow through on any promises they've made. I reccomend to avoid this product at all costs.

These bands actually work pretty well with the exception of battery life and syncing. However, I have now purchased 5 bands in a 12 month period because they have no way to stay secured on the wrist. My first band was the UP, then I graduated to the UP3 when that one was lost. So far, the subsequent 4 bands have just fallen off and disappeared during hikes, runs etc. At almost $200 per band including tax, I have purchased my last one and will find a brand that has a clasping mechanism that works.

Great Potential, Not Quite Ready Yet

I bought this product & had it for 6 days before returning. I was absolutely in love with it, but after noticing several discrepancies, my love for the product started to dwindle. I loved the idea & potential that was set for this product but I feel it was released prematurely before it was even well tested by developers. I love how it's not just a fitness tracker, but a whole lifestyle wellness tracker. It just looks like a piece of jewelry. You can have it on & forget about it. I actually like that it didn't have a screen because that allowed me to not have to keep looking down at it. The app is great. The smart coach gives you tips to lead to a healthier lifestyle. The sleep tracker was really cool. Pretty much the information it gives makes you more aware of your habits and helps you focus more on healthy changes. Now what I didn't like about it & the reason why I returned it was simply, I'm not too sure of the accuracy. Now I'm skeptical on the accuracy of any fitness tracker, but this was blatant inaccurate information that it was "tracking." My Up3 would record steps taken when I was laying down on my phone, it would say I was awake when I was really sleep & vice versa, & it would record different heartbeats at different times while it was sitting on the dresser or on the charger. Once I figured I would return it, I had it sitting on the dresser for about a day. At the end of the day my Up3 gave me my daily summary and it had all this data recorded, sleep time, steps, heartbeat..... Really makes me question whether or not the data that was reported when it was on my wrist is truly accurate or not. The whole 6 days I wore the Up3 I felt as if I was a beta tester for the product. I didn't feel as if this was a great fitness tracker that I've spent over $100 on. Which now I see is on sale for $45. Because the price is so low, I would say go for it. Try it out. Maybe mine was a faulty version. Who knows. Again I love every part of the Up3....if I could trust the data. I would say wait for the Jawbone developers to get the product working great before spending money on it. It would be nice if the Up3 did everything it was originally promised to do by the company. The good thing is I can still use the UP app with the smart coach & all it's features. I ended up purchasing the Apple Watch & the UP app still uses my data to give me tips & reminders.

UP is best fitness app!!Best Sleep monitor

UP3 is the best general fitness tracker! If you don't need to look at your wrist and are fine with checking your smartphone for your stats, this is the best to get. The UP app provides better health tips & feedback than any of it's competitors like Fitbit. Also, the sleep monitor provides better accuracy than any other tracker & app provides more detailed information as well. The only reason I returned this is because it doesn't have a an active heart rate monitor. This is important if you need to know what heart rate zone you should be in for performance based training. The Garmin 235 uses a Mio optical active heart rate monitor, but it costs $100 more & the Garmin Connect app does not provide "health coaching" as well as UP.

I was patiently waiting for UP3 to be released since it was first announced. When it showed up in stock at BestBuy I pre-orderd it. Got it with the first batch and used it for a few weeks now and it is going back tomorrow. For $179 it is extremely underwhelming product, it tells your resting HR which is good, but it not that different in my case day-to-day, UP app is great, has great insights, but I just can help but think the device is in its raw form yet. Not excited and would not recommend it to anyone.

I would definitely recommend this to a friend but there is one thing you need to know about this band first. WARNING: The batteries are sensitive but last a lot longer once charged properly. IF you use almost any other charger other than a computer USB the first charge it will mess up your battery. I went through 2 bands before they advised me of that problem. THE BAND IS GREAT: The fit is great, easy to put on and off, and the battery has lasted for me close to 10 days (which is more than advertised!). The app is by far the best of all the fitness trackers out there. Only thing it doesn't do that hopefully will be in the next update is sending heart rate to your health app on your phone.

Jawbone Up 3 is a great fitness tracker. Step count isn't as accurate as my fitbit or phone, but the app is easy to use and the smart coach feature is nice. Also prefer the slim design of this wearable to any fitbit out there. Initially, I thought the lack of a screen would be an issue, but I actually prefer it, so no issues there.

The only thing worse than the product itself is jawbone's customer service. The clap brok on my first one, which I waited 5 months to receive, 2 weeks after the return period ended. They would not let me return it and sent me a new one which took 3 weeks to get to me. I charged it and put it on. The charge lasted 1 day. I then charged it overnight and again it lasted one day. I called and complained loud enough and kept asking for supervisor after supervisor and they agreed to issue me a refund, or so I thought... A day later a got a call from their customer service saying that they now wouldn't honor the refund I was promised. I called in again and was finally told that upper management had approved my refund... That was a week ago and still have heard nothing. Save yourself a huge headache and buy a Fitbit. That's what I am doing if I ever get my money back.

    Huge Disappointment

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I couldn't wait to try out my UP3, however, it quickly became clear that this glorified pedometer isn't worth nearly $200. Not only did the product not live up to expectations, but Jawbone's customer support was awful. With the advanced sensors, I assumed that the UP3 would accurately track my day. Not at all. The heart rate sensor only collects data for passive and resting heart rate. It does not monitor and record throughout the day. Unless you are actively swinging your arm, this tracker will not record your activity. If you push a stroller or workout without moving your arm (pull-ups, bike, cardio equipment). You have the option to enter it into the app, but that just uses standards to calculate calorie burn, nothing personalized for your performance. The band looks great, but in reality, the simplicity does not allow for feedback unless you use the app on your phone. Aren't we already looking at those screens too much already? As soon as I noticed that i wasn't getting what I had hoped to get from this product, I reached out to Jawbone directly. Their customer support seemed very uninformed. They had to look up answers to questions and then gave me misinformation regarding their return policy. To make up for it, they offered me a 25% discount on any two of their products I wanted. Sorry, but don't try to make it up to me with a marketing ploy to get me to spend more money on your products. Thanks to the awesome customer service at Best Buy, I was able to exchange the UP3 and purchase the Garmin Vivosmart HR which has exceeded my expectations for a smaller price tag than the UP3.

We have purchased several Ups since they were first introduced and have been really happy with all of the features and the great product support whenever we experienced problems. My biggest complaint with the UP3, has been the clasp that buckles it to your wrist. If you are wearing long sleeves or carrying something, there is a very good chance that it will fall off and you will never notice it. This has happened quite often and we have had to replace two of them. While it does have a GPS locator, it never worked well enough to find them. The other big issue is that sometimes they would simply not charge and customer service would have to send a replacement. They are great about replacing them, but in the end, it was getting to be too much of an ongoing problem. I think we will give Garmin a shot.
