It's adequate for a mid-level subwoofer. Is it the best? No. But it's decent.

Subwoofer sounds good but controls are odd. Bass sounds non-existent until volume knob is turned almost all the way up. Otherwise, no complaints.

I bought this as a set with the 280f towers and center 245c . I returned it because there is barely any base . You need to turn the volume knob at almost 100% to notice anything and the cone doesn’t even move that much which I think is just under engineer. It has so much potential if they can fix that issue it can be a nice sub. I wanted to jeep it because it matched everything else but It would be a waste of money. If you want a good base do not buy this one, you will regret it and return it. Save your trip back to BB.

The JBL Stage 220P 12-Inch Powered Subwoofer is a game-changer for anyone seeking to elevate their home audio experience. As someone who values high-quality sound, I was immediately impressed by this subwoofer's ability to deliver deep, impactful bass that truly fills the room. Engineered at JBL's Acoustic Engineering Center of Excellence, this subwoofer boasts a powerful 500-watt amplifier that doesn’t just produce sound—it creates an immersive audio environment. The moment I connected it to my system, I knew this wasn't just any subwoofer; it’s a piece of audio equipment designed to impress even the most discerning listeners. The 12-inch Polycellulose ribbed cone woofer is where the magic happens. JBL’s attention to detail in designing this component really shines through. The ribbed cone design, inspired by legendary JBL woofers, enhances the rigidity of the woofer, allowing it to produce tight, accurate bass that never feels boomy or overwhelming. In my opinion, this balance is critical for a subwoofer, especially when you're using it in a home theater setup where clarity is just as important as power. The Stage 220P nails this balance, offering room-filling bass that’s both deep and precise. One of the features that stood out to me is the bass-reflex design with dual rear-firing flared ports. These ports reduce the air velocity as it exits the speaker, which eliminates any annoying chuffing sounds that can sometimes detract from the listening experience. I’ve tested subwoofers in the past where this wasn’t the case, and the difference with the Stage 220P is noticeable. The bass is not only powerful but also clean, which makes a world of difference when you’re listening to a range of audio, from action-packed movie scenes to the subtle basslines in your favorite music. Another aspect that I appreciate is the ease of integration into any existing audio system. The rear-mounted volume, crossover, phase, and power controls allow for precise adjustments, ensuring the subwoofer blends seamlessly with your main speakers. The Line-Level LFE input is another feature that simplifies the setup process. By bypassing the subwoofer’s internal crossover when connected to a receiver with its own low-pass crossover, the Stage 220P ensures you get the most accurate bass performance possible. In terms of aesthetics, JBL didn’t skimp on the details. The magnetically attached grilles and the unique trim rings add a touch of elegance that you don’t often find in subwoofers at this price point. The floating front baffle design gives it a modern look that complements any room décor. For someone like me, who appreciates when form meets function, these design choices were the icing on the cake. It’s not just about having great sound; it’s about having a piece of equipment that looks as good as it performs. In conclusion, the JBL Stage 220P 12-Inch Powered Subwoofer is an outstanding addition to any home audio system. Its combination of powerful, precise bass, ease of integration, and thoughtful design features makes it a top choice for anyone serious about sound quality. After testing it myself, I can confidently say that this subwoofer lives up to the JBL name, delivering an audio experience that is both impactful and refined. Whether you're upgrading your home theater or just want to enhance your music listening, the Stage 220P is a solid investment that you won’t regret.

JBL sells a great product but wasn't able to test/use this one. Purchased as an open box online. No mention of any damage to the product. Product was in original box when shipped with all the Styrofoam ect that you would expect. Once opened and removed from the box i saw damage to the bottom corners of the wooded enclosure. Returned to nearest store for refund. Best Buy needs to do a better job inspecting their products before selling as Open Item.

This rating will be, to an extent, misleading. I haven't gotten to check it out yet. The Geek Squad tech showed up without the proper cable to hook it up. He was unprepared plus the sales person made no mention of the cord that would be required, so it just sits there at this point.

This sub moves bass and is one of the best sounding I have heard at this price point. It does well with all types of content (more on that later), and absolutely adds texture and depth to the sound you are consuming and more immersion to whatever you are experiencing. As for looks, well, it is a big dark brown square with a black grille. It looks good. About what you would expect. Personally, I think it looks better without the grille, but that is a personal thing. It comes with floor spikes, which is a nice add, but I did not need them. Features-wise, there is a good bit of power and some nice tech in the cones. All inputs (line-level LFE) and controls are located on the rear. I always appreciate a removeable plug, and the crossover and volume dials offer a nice level of control and feel good in use. Power mode and phase control are also present in the form of switches. All in all, pretty standard here. When it came to music, I tried to hit it with a bit of just about everything I listen to. Admittedly, that is just about everything, save country and metal. Across the board, it more or less nailed it. I was having a little trouble dialing it in “exactly” how I wanted, ending up going a little more on the aggressive side, but I really couldn’t be much more pleased. The bass was deep, but refined, and seemingly never really pushing too hard. Punches in spots, blankets in others. As for movies, well, this is what I was really looking forward to. I listen to music in so many formats, on so many devices, but most of the time on the go. Movies, there is a little bit of that, but when I really want to watch something, it is on a nice panel, sound blaring, popcorn in hand. Here, I could not be more pleased. It just added another layer to my experience. It is just THERE…yet not feeling like an intrusion or struggling to keep up. It seemed to deliver the right amount bass at each moment. Not only the large-scale events, but also the small and subtle ones as well. All in all, just a great addition to my movie viewing experience. Ultimately, I really like this sub. It seems to deliver all the power you need, while also sitting back when that is called for. It does great with music, and absolutely excels in adding a deeper feeling of immersion when taking in movies. I think it is a very good value for what you get and would great add for most systems.

It booms and rumbles exactly as it’s supposed to do. It’s way more than powerful enough for my relatively small living room in a multifamily condo, so I haven’t dared to max out the volume for fear of upsetting the neighbors building. I appreciate having a crossover, especially because it’s for now paired with only two other bookshelf speakers acting as fronts. I haven’t had to try the phase switch, but it’s nice that it’s there. The magnetic speaker cover is a nice touch, but as with the other speakers in JBL’s Stage series, the cover does not have any detents or alignment pegs to keep it in position. It’s held in place solely by the magnets, which means it’s quite easy for the cover to slip out of position if you handle the subwoofer in the wrong way, for example when moving it into position. I guess it would be better to just take the cover off when moving subwoofer. Its minimal aesthetic means it sits pretty inconspicuously next to my TV stand/bookcase. It comes with carpet spikes in case you need them. A subwoofer cable is not included, which I guess is a typical practice these days. In sum, I’m happy with it.

The subwoofer came packaged very well, and this is quite heavy. I needed a handcart to get it in the house! It has a magnetic cover that snaps onto the front and the cabinet is quite vintage looking with espresso wood grain around it. Setup was very easy and quick. I paired it with a set of JBL speakers & a JBL MA310 receiver. The sound with the speakers is very good , loud, clear, crisp. It has 150 rms and 300 watts dynamic power and works well. Good bass response, I have it sitting on the floor and it vibrates the floor! It has an 10” cone speaker and a single RCA out cable to connect to your receiver, I’m still figuring out how to set the crossover which determines the highest frequency and helps achieve better transition with the speakers, I haven't quite figured out how to do it. This is heavy & fairly large yet fits in a small space. I’m pretty impressed with the sound of this subwoofer especially when paired with the other components so I’d definitely recommend this as an addition to your stereo system.

Straight TRASH! I will never buy another JBL sub. This sub is nowhere loud enough. I had to turn it all the way up just to hear it. For the price it should be better. Don't buy!
