It holds my iPhone 7 Plus securely, although I wouldn't stick it out of a moving vehicle, or dangle it over a cliff.

Successfull outdoor broadcast

Owned for 1 month when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.We used this tripod along with the "Sunpak - PlatinumPlus 5858D 58" Tripod - Black" to broadcast an outdoor event that had about 30 people in attendance on site and 150+ online using an iPhone and it was a tremendous success. The event was sadly a funeral and due to COVID-19 restrictions required limited in-person attendance. The people who participated via Zoom reported that it was one of their best experiences of the sort - smooth, good view, able to hear etc.
