    Joaquin Phoenix is fantastic

Joaquin Phoenix is fantastic. Obviously it's hard to compare one actor's portrayal of a character to another. Lots of people will say well he's no Heath Ledger. But that's exactly the point. Joaquin delivered a performance completely separate from anything I've seen. The movie was eerily awesome and almost a bit too real at some points. I like the direction this series could go. I just hope if they do continue, they keep the same tone. Highly recommend this one to cinema fans everywhere.

Not just any comic book movie!

This film tells such an interesting version of the joker, that you can’t help but be at least slightly intrigued, regardless if you like gritty comic book films or not. This films main focus isn’t about Gotham city or the joker persona. it focuses on a broken, mentally ill man in a broken society, And his downfall into a symbol that the careless society made him. I wouldn’t even call this a comic book film. It’s a dark, gritty, depressing, and intense thriller/origin story. This is my favorite film of 2019 and I can list many more reasons why. 100 percent worth a buy.

    Joker Steelbook

The steelbook has a glossy finish, and the front cover seems to have film grain effect to it. The back cover is nice and hi res although I could done without the film credits obstructing the image. The blu ray looks and sounds great. I cant speak for the 4k but I'm sure it is as good. I'm a little disappointed that there's a spine slash in my copy but no biggie. Overall I am happy with how this steelbook came out. Side Note: My original shipment got lost in the mail, but Best Buy was more than accommodating on sending me a replacement and for that I am grateful.

Taking heavily from films such as "Taxi Driver" and "King of Comedy," Todd Phillips gives us "Joker" a study of how a meek lonely unstable person can be broken down by the by the world around them and turned into something else or maybe who they always were. Visually the film is stunning, the score is a haunting type of lovely, it's well paced and has a beyond stellar third act, but this film works on every nearly every cylinder because of Joaquin Phoenix. Phoenix allows you to empathize with him, sympathize with him, take pity on, rally behind and fear him. I think my only issues are that I feel that the script and director brought in a plot angle that upon a rewatch, isn't necessarily bad, but doesn't fully hold up in my opinion, there are some repetitive dance sequences which also don't hold up after a rewatch at times, and also how much it takes from Scorsese's previous works rubs away some of that authenticity.

The Greatest Comic Book Movie Ever

Joker did something no other comic book movie has ever done which is get people to start talking about mental health and mental illness. No one ever asks in comic book movies why do the villains act way they do or have that mindset but finally we have a movie that shows what it takes for someone to go off the deep end. Joker did another thing that most comic book movies don’t do is have a movie completely without action or a big battle scene, this movie is about the exploration of the human psyche and what it takes for someone to go to the extreme.

After seeing films like Parasite, Jojo Rabbit and 1917 I think I can say those are my picks for top films but Joker is no slouch. Joaquin Phoenix is amazing and deserved the Oscar, he was absolutely incredible in a guy wrenching performance. Overall, I would say I enjoyed it more than The Irishman, Marriage Story and OUATIH (haven’t seen Little Women or Ford V Ferrari yet) but honestly there wasn’t one Oscar now that I haven’t liked yet. This year was so rich and diverse in genres it was great to see. Highest recommendation, especially for a Batfan.

This movie in my opinion is the best movie of 2019. Yes. I have seen Parasite. And I would agree it being a better movie if it wasn't for the messy ending. The Joker touches on themes of mental illness, the poor balance of a bad economic system, and those effected by it. The movie leaves you in constant suspsense on what Arthur Fleck is going to do. The music won an Oscar for a reason. Having listened to the movie in a Dobly theater I knew this was going to take home the gold for the soundtrack. Just an amazing movie overall!

    This Movie Is No Joke

A deep psychological thriller with moments of superhero back story peppered in. A fresh take on the Joker character and a welcome change of pace, no CGI, no superheroes saying let's go save the world. If you find crime documentary style stories on disturbed people who go mad interesting you should appreciate this, I did. The acting is brilliant by J. Phoenix and the story unfolds with so many layers as the character becomes the Joker. Todd Phillips takes his time and doesn't rush scenes like so many movies today.

Talk about a movie that no one saw coming! No one asked for a joker movie, but everyone was ready for something different. And boy, is this different. This movie won't be for everyone. It's super dark, depressing, and shockingly violent. Definitely not for small kids. Contrary to popular belief it is NOT a superhero movie, nor is it trying to be. It's well acted and the cinematography, along with the score, really puts you in a downward spiral (small spoiler), right along with a certain character. I loved it and I hope other's will too. Enjoy!

Clown Prince of Crime Nothing else needed to say. And you can see the reviews of the movie everywhere. So, the steel box was well worth. It’s not something I normally do but happy I did. I rarely buy movies and if I did I did it digitally. I stopped trying to collect movies after living through all the different waves of formats. This steelbox and this movie made get out to a Best Buy day of and had to hunt it down at multiple stores. As I said well worth it. It looks great has a nice feel to it. If you can find it get it and display it proudly.

I absolutely loved this movie. I was a bit skeptical at first, because I believe no one will ever be able to top Heath Ledger's Joker. However, Joaquin puts a totally different spin on the character. This is not super hero... this is real life. Incredibly believable acting. Don't expect Batman and Robin to show up here. This is not super hero. But I love the underlying application of familiarities, such as Gotham City. It gives a compelling creation of the Joker character. I will watch this over and over in afraid.

This is an outstanding movie. However please understand this is NOT your typical fun cute comic book movie. This is mature audiences only level. This is a different interpretation of the Joker character and if you are a fan and understand the rating, you'll appreciate it. Just don't expect the kids version here. Joaquin Phoenix is outstanding in every way and again, a highly recommended film.

Mr. Phoenix's character portrayal was compelling and disturbing, exactly what I had hoped for. I never moved from my seat to grabs snacks or use the bathroom. I was completely absorbed. All the hubbub and hype prior to the mass release in theaters over what crazy movie-goers would do after they saw it was just that. I am not a fan of most sequels or prequels as to my experience thay tend to disappoint. In this case, and I know Mr. Phoenix has an adversion to doing them, I hope and pray he and the director absolutely collaberate on at least one!

This is a movie that only those who have felt alone and isolated can truly relate to it. You understand the motive and you feel sorry for the character. A lot of people will see this movie and think that it encourages violence. But truly, this movie should encourage each and every one of us to become a better person, treat everyone with respect and make each other feel like they belong in this world, instead of making them feel isolated.

This movie is only good as it’s leading actor. With that being said, Joaquin Phoenix deserved every bit of his Oscar for is portrayal as Arthur Fleck in the movie Joker. As a struggling party clown and striving to be a stand up comedian, Arthur deals with a medical condition, mental illness, and the crooked ways Gotham city. Arthur turns into the perfect antihero. The dark tones, score and cinematography of this movie fit perfectly. The 4K really showcases the sounds and colors of the movie, which is almost for certain set in the early 80’s.

This film is up there with TDKT (The Dark Knight Trilogy). This film was a masterpiece and worth every minute. It also was a perfect commentary on our current society in the U.S., it has the same feel as The Dark Knight, if not even darker. It was once reported that this was a Prequel to The Dark Knight in early reports regarding Warner Bros. It easily makes sense that Joker may inspire, The Joker and keeps authenticity up to the fans. This could easily precede The Dark Knight with no plot holes.

This was an excellent movie. It was a dark movie but again it was meant to be that way. I heard a lot of people say this movie was extremely violent. Yes, there were some parts that were violent but the director wanted to get his point across as we all know the joker had issues :) The movie was never dull at any time and really showed the truth and never sugar-coated people with this mental illness could be like. I would recommend this movie as it was awesome and no wonder he is nominated and getting awards for this role. Well deserved.

Joker is a complex phycological thriller about a man slowly losing his sanity in a world that does not care for him. It shows what caused the famed comic villain to decent into madness. All it takes is one bad day. And in Aurhter's case, he had too many. Intiseing film from start to finish, Joker has you constantly asking questions and second-guessing every aspect of the plot in the best way possible, has an incredible up for interpretation ending, Oscar-winning acting, and just overall a great thrill ride.

I've literally been in love with Joaquin Phoenix since I was a teen seeing him in to die for and inventing the abbots it's no surprise why he was the second joker to pick up an Oscar if that means anything his talents have always been great but his heart has always been greater fortunate enough for him to surprise me at an audience screening for you're not really there and he literally saved a calf and it's mama a block down from my house great plain a villain but exceptional real life hero

The film is an amalgamation of Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy, and it wears its influences on its sleeves, but almost to the point of having no identity of its own. But the movie is saved by Joaquin's performance, you pity him very much so, and you also empathize with him because we've all had bad days, and for him, as he states "all i've had are bad days" and you see that and hear that and you do wonder how many people have had lives like that, how many people were abandoned by society, by the government, and left to fend for themselves. Now, I'm not making excuses for people's actions, but I think the film was timely for when it came out. Also....no, it's not that violent, and no... it won't cause people to suddenly burn down homes, or riot or whatnot because it's just a movie.
