I had the kangaroo doorbell camera for a little over a year and loved it so when i saw they came out with a video doorbell I immediately got excited and purchase this. BIG MISTAKE! Its not sensitive at all and misses 98% of any movement outside my door. I have tried reaching out abd troubke shooting but it doesnt help. If youre like me and thought of the video version as an uograde, ITS NOT! Stick to the camera version and save your money. Ive reinstalled the original kangaroo doorbell camera but sadly ive passed best buys return window. What a WASTE

The Kangaroo Smart Wi-Fi video doorbell with chime in black is a decent doorbell camera for the price, but has some drawbacks. Setting up the doorbell fast and simple. It is all done with the downloadable app, which takes less than 5 minutes. You do have to creat an account though. Installation of the doorbell is simple. You mount it on any flat surface suing the 3M heavy duty pad on the holder, or the more secure way by using the screws that come with it. There is also a safety screw that screws into the doorbell itself, making it more difficult to steal if someone wanted to. The camera's video and image quality are crisp and clear. The field of view is also good. I have mine setup at the front of my house. The speed of notification delivery is decently fast. About 3-4 seconds, and the video lag is less than 2 seconds. Their is an included doorbell chime that plugs into either the included charging and/or power block directly, or any other USB adapter. The doorbell charge is quick, and takes around 2 hours to completely charge. I have only had the doorbell for a few weeks, so I cannot say how loing the battery lasts. I assume over a month, seeing that mine drops about 3% per day. I wish this device had Google Home integration. I use a lot of other devices that all support Google Home. I would have gladly paid a little more to have that feature. In short, the Kangaroo Smart Wifi doorbell is decent for the price, but lacks some features of a few other doorbells in it's category.

The Kangaroo smart wifi video doorbell has all the bells and whistles as it's competitors, but lacks consistent software, has connectivity problems frequently, and hides a lot behind an expensive pay wall. The set up is simple. Connecting to WiFi and adding both devices (doorbell and USB chime) was straightforward and quick. I had no issues with the app or connecting it right away. Ringing the doorbell activated the chime right away and all seemed well. Installing the doorbell was also very simple. It's some 3M adhesive on the mounting plate and you stick it on the wall outside where there is a good strong connection which the app lets you test before installing. If you ever need to remove the doorbell, it's also simple. Just a screw away from removing it from the mounting plate to charge. Everything so far has been less than perfect. The app is great and has a lot of features but I'm having trouble connecting to a live feed much too often. It buffers for more than a minute at time to get the live feed. I have to constantly exit and restart the app to be able to get a live feed. The motion detector is great to have but it doesn't work all the time. It is very hit or miss and I have walked in front of it a bunch of times but it only alerts me of motion it seems at random. The picture quality is good. It's not stellar by any means but it's a clear picture and the recordings are good quality. The sound is audible but not the best quality. It is passable in the event of people talking to the doorbell. You can understand each other but it is somewhat strenuous. Overall, the doorbell works as a doorbell. You click it and it chimes indoors. The chime is loud enough to cover one small 9x9 bedroom but you will need multiple chimes set up throughout the home to get full coverage unless you have a small open space studio. The video quality is good and takes good recordings. The software + connectivity needs some work. I would not recommend this video doorbell to my friends if they cared about those complaints I made. Otherwise, it is good enough to have something there that can record for free and more peace of mind but it may fail you when you really need it due to it's pitfalls.

Pro: -Battery or wired -Optional non permanent installation Con: -Spotty live connection -Recording upon trigger is slow to start -Some common features locked behind subscription Setup and Installation The doorbell was easy to set up. Once you create an account in the app, you use the phone to scan the QR code and pair the camera and it’ll run through the wifi setup. The app really pushes the subscription but you can select the basic option towards the bottom. You can either install it by hardwiring it or using the battery and clip it to the door. The clip can attach with screws or use 3M tape on the back. There’s an optional security screw to keep the doorbell from being removed from the clip. The chime can be plugged into any USB port or with the included adapter. Functionality It works well enough, with the video quality being ok for both day and night time. The speaker is somewhat muffled. When talking through the mic, I got some feedback and echo from the speaker on the doorbell. It also feels like the recording upon being triggered is a bit too slow. For instance, I had a delivery that triggered the doorbell, but in the recording, the delivery person was already at the door and walking away. It would be too slow to capture any useful information if the subject was moving fast enough. An issue that I have often is the connection to watch the live view. It’ll take anywhere from 5 to 10 seconds, but a lot of the time it won’t connect at all until I close the app and retry. It doesn’t affect recordings, which usually take a few seconds to view. The battery seems like it would last a long time. I’ve had it set up for a few days now with recordings and live view and so far it’s still showing full charge. Free vs Paid The free version is more limited but probably enough for daily monitoring. You can set it to notify and record upon motion detection or doorbell rings, with video clips up to 12 seconds. It will only trigger once every 5 minutes. The videos will be saved for two days, but you can also download them. You can also adjust the detection sensitivity between normal and far. You can subscribe to their annual plan for $24, which will unlock more features, but some of these probably should have been in the free version. The plan will unlock: -Longer recording time up to 60 seconds with battery and 90 seconds with hardwired. -Saving recording up to 30 days -Person Only mode, detecting and recording only people. -Shorter cooldown time for alerts, down to 5 seconds. -Motion Detecting Zones It’s not great by any means but for the price it’s not bad. It doesn’t have the premium build feel to it but both the day time and night vision works well enough. It’s easy to set up and install, and gives you the option between hard wired or battery. The issues I’ve had are that recordings take longer to start upon triggering and the connection for live view was spotty. The free basic plan will get you by, and the subscription price for the extra features isn’t that much. If you need a cheap video doorbell, this will get you by.
