I got this because I thought it would be a good addition to our home security system. Installation is pretty easy though the directions in the included booklet contradict what the tab on unit says. As just a doorbell this unit isn't bad and very easy to hear the chime without it being too loud or obnoxious. Depending on what you want to do with it determines how satisfied you will be with it. To be able to change the detection zone or recording length you do have to purchase a plan. Though for under two dollars a month I guess it is not bad. It frequently does not start recording until the person is walking off unless they ring the doorbell with most porch thieves don't! We tested it at night as well and half the time it did not even see us moving at just a standard pace but if we were almost running then it would pick it up more often. The live feed will sometimes not work unless your connected to the same wifi as the doorbell. If your looking for a visual deterrent that won't break the bank then this would be perfect. I did appreciate that it could be hardwired or battery operated. Time will tell if I keep this unit or not. Though I guess it is better than the non video doorbell it replaced so I can not complain too much.

The Kangaroo Smart Video Doorbell with chime is an inexpensive way to add a touch of security to your home. The box contains the doorbell/camera, chime unit, usb charging cable, mounting anchors, hard wire connectors and 110 to usb adapter. Mounting the unit is straightforward and offers two methods. Double face tape as well as hard-mounted with screws. I also like that in addition to the rechargeable battery, you can hard wire to an existing doorbell setup. Connecting the doorbell and chime unit to the app is easy and there was a firmware update to do once connected. Once everything is connected you can view live video from the doorbell or view the last 24 hours of events. When viewing live video it takes about 30 seconds or so to connect. The doorbell is used in a hallway and when people walk by they are captured but only while walking away. This lag is concerning since if they grabbed a package I would only see their backs as they are walking away. Night Vision video is black and white vs color but is very clear and easy to see. If you flip your phone you get full screen video and can zoom in. The chime unit is compact but rather than being able to plug directly into the wall socket, it's USB and requires the adapter. The volume is adjustable and loud enough for a small space. I wouldn't expect to hear it if it were on a different floor or if the tv was on at a decent volume. It did automatically reconnect to the network from being unplugged using the adapter to charge the doorbell though. The app seems to be more of an advertisement to purchase one of Kangaroo’s security subscription plans which are required to unlock many of the features like access to videos more than 24 hours old and longer than 12 seconds, motion zones and person detection. It also seems the app is more designed to be used as a full security system with the doorbell function being just a small part of the larger system. At $99 a year, it would be an inexpensive security system if you purchased all the sensors and alarms. Kangaroo has Alexa and Google home integration. I was successful with connecting it to Alexa but unsuccessful with making it work. I was hoping I could see the video on my Echo Show but that wasn't possible. I give the Kangaroo Video Doorbell and Chime four stars. I think the hardware is capable but crippled by the app. Tighten up the motion sensing and create an app just for the doorbell function or have a toggle in the app to turn off the security features unless you have them. If you are in the market for a wireless bell, the Kangaroo Video Doorbell is just a few $$ more than a basic version and worth consideration.

Setup was quick and easy. I had the Kangaroo Video Doorbell and Chime up and running in just a few minutes. The Chime that came with this Video Doorbell is a USP-A plug in. The Kangaroo Video Doorbell has a rechargeable battery similar to cell phone and other rechargeable devices. According to the guide the battery charge should last several months depending on your settings. The Kangaroo Video Doorbell and Chime, comes with: Video Doorbell, USB-A Chime, Mounting Plate (which is either stickup or using the 2 mounting plate screws included), USB Power Adapter, 1 USB cable, AC-Line-in Cables, 2 Line-in screws, and a Manual Pamphlet. To use the Kangaroo Video Doorbell and Chime you need to download the APP for your Smartphone. The App is easy to use and has most of the needed features (depending upon the protection plan chosen). More on the protection plans a little later. The App is good, the website, not so much. The website is difficult to navigate and does not have any of the security features like other Video Doorbells have. The only thing you can really do on the website is to order a Protection Plan and access a Community Forum for questions and tip. You can’t download any of the videos from the doorbell or access any of the features of it either. You can only do that from the APP. Protection Plan – purchasing a protection is easy either through the app or the website. There are 3 types of plans, BASIC-no fee but can’t save any videos and can only see them in real time. CAM PROTECT – gives you 90 days activity history, 30 days of cloud storage, Theft coverage and damage reimbursement. COMPLETE PROTECT- The most expensive of the protection plans but give you the most features. The COMPLETE gives you all the of the CAM PROTECT features plus 24/7 monitoring, more theft and damage reimbursement and Homeowners insurance discount where applicable. Depending on the protection plan the APP only has certain features. I only have the CAM PROTECT which has limited features in the APP. I also can’t change the chime sound and have to use the default sound. The COMPLETE PROTECT plan is almost 5x more that the CAM PROTECT Plan. I will see down the road of the more expensive plan is feasible for my needs. The APP also notifies you almost immediately when motion is detected or the Doorbell is pressed. The WiFi connection for the Video Doorbell needs to be fairly strong in order for Doorbell to stay connected. Because my router is on the opposite side of the house where I have the Kangaroo Video Doorbell, I needed to purchase a WiFi extender. Before I purchased the extender, the Video Doorbell kept disconnecting. I contacted customer service through email (the best and fastest way) and they called me within an hour and helped me reconnect it. It was Kangaroo customer service that suggested I use a Wifi extender. I followed their advice and they helped me connect it to the Extender as well. Once I get both the Video Doorbell and the Chime working, I was able to connect the Doorbell to my backdoor and the Chime can be plugged in any USB-A with the AC adapter anywhere in the house. CONS: - Need strong WiFi connection otherwise will keep disconnecting if WiFi is weak. - Can only download videos from the APP and not on the website. - Need to transfer any downloaded videos from cell phones to PC if you want to free up space on your phone or SD-Card - Only the APP has all the needed features for controlling, the Video Doorbell and Chime. - The Kangaroo Video Doorbell and Chime work better the closer they are to your Router. - Need to purchase a good WiFi extender if home WiFi is weak. - The Chime with this Video Doorbell is only a USB-A plug in. The standard AC plugin would be better. I’d only recommend the Kangaroo Video Doorbell and USB-A Chime if you are on a budget and want a decent video doorbell. For not it’s OK. Not great, but OK.

I have actually been pleasantly surprised with this camera. The picture quality is quite impressive and I’ve been able to make out details in both the videos as well as on the live stream. I was very disappointed when it arrived to see that the box was very damaged and I worried about the camera itself but it turned out that it was still in working order and the damage was just cosmetic. I chalked it up to careless delivery people. Out of the box the camera was charged and I was able to download the app and get everything registered and connected in less than five minutes so it was off to a great start. I didn’t want to hardwire or permanently install the camera right away because I wasn’t sure I’d even like it so I purchased a doorbell cradle and it fit into that perfect. Once I checked the fit I put the camera on the charger to get it fully powered and it only took about an hour for the battery to get full. I put the camera into the cradle, which was a couple weeks ago, and it’s still going strong. I am not at all happy that a subscription is required to store videos so I can’t speak on that aspect, but for the moment I’ll continue to use it to monitor when my son gets home from school and when my packages are delivered. Is a great value for the cost and as a former Ring doorbell user I can say I haven’t been disappointed in the change. It’s a great state camera so if you’re looking to try out a camera without a hefty price tag I’d highly recommend giving this one a shot.

When I received this Kangaroo - Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell w/ Chime in black, I was shocked at the packaging. It was shipped in a packing envelope and when I opened the outer packing the doorbell fell onto my counter, I was grateful that I wasn’t standing up when I opened it. It was packaged in a flimsy green box that literally was almost flat and all the included hardware was in the bottom of the packaging. Now on to the mounting of the Kangaroo Doorbell. I wanted to wire it directly to the wiring that already existed at our doorway, but unfortunately there just wasn’t enough room to wire it, especially w/ the included wiring nuts, I tried electrical tape and I could never get a great connection. So I resolved to use the rechargeable battery approach. I do like the fact that Kangaroo uses 3M mounting tape to adhere this to the doorframe, this stuff is exceptional and I have never had an issue w/ anything coming “unattached”. I had a terrible time trying to get the App loaded on my iPhone 12, and I’m not certain if it was my phone or the App itself, but ultimately I had to turn of my phone, delete the App, and download it a second time. After that, the rest of the process was okay. As far as the clarity and picture on this Kangaroo Video Doorbell, I was pleased w/ the video/picture. I was even more impressed w/ the night vision on this camera, the clarity of it was very good. I am still “tweaking” the settings to get the camera to pick up and that was partly my fault as I didn’t choose the right mounting location, and let me say again, the 3M tape works VERY WELL. If you are in the market for a reasonably priced video doorbell, I think you would be pleased w/ the Kangaroo - Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell. They include everything you need to mount the doorbell and it also comes w/ a chime, which you plug into an outlet, which I found was very neat. If Kangaroo would consider how they package this product, I would have given them 4 stars.

Great value for wireless doorbell camera and chime

I have held off getting a wireless doorbell with camera for several years, since I already have a home security camera system with coverage of my front entryway. I keep track of the options on the market occassionally so that I can compare whether it's worth adding a doorbell camera for the notifications and communication aspects compared to my existing 4k security cameras. What I found really impressive with this Kangaroo Smart Wi-fi Video Doorbell with Chime is that it includes pretty much everything I want in this product at an incredibly low price - and does so without requiring a cloud subscription for even basic features. Set up for the Kangaroo camera was super easy. The included quick start guide as well as the bright yellow pullout tab on the camera's battery bay tell you all you need to know. You download the app for your phone, create an account with Kangaroo, then it quickly finds the camera and connects it to your wireless network (2.4ghz only). Pairing the included Chime is similarly easy. The Chime plugs in with an included USB adapter, although I used a wall outlet that I already have which has USB ports built in. Video quality and features are very good with the free (basic) account, with notifications, live 'calling' and 24 hours of recording storage in the cloud. For about 2 bucks a month you can get 30 days of recording storage, and there's an additional option that includes 24/7 remote monitoring for about $100/year. Each of these options includes insurance against theft and damage, which makes the total package price of this Kangaroo video doorbell even better. The field of view is wider than a few other doorbell cameras I've trialed, and I appreciate that the camera is aligned so that you get a wider FOV rather than taller.

    Kangaroo door bell works

The camera works really good. The chimes only have two options and aren’t that loud. Alexa does not announce a guest like other door bells do. Looks like the company is trying to sell entire security packages rather than just a door bell with a loud chime. I setup with Alexa and it wants me to arm the security system components which i don’t own. The door bell works better than my last which is consistent. You better have your phone or watch on or nearby to see the notifications. I really let wish the chimes had multiple options for sound notifications but only two as i mentioned before. Easy to install and will replace the existing doorbell you currently have without a doubt. My last doorbell had several different types of sounds for the chimes. Hopefully kangaroo will upgrade the device to allow more options. Convenient chimes small foot print so can be placed anywhere you have an ac outlet. Just make sure it’s in a central location that can be heard from any place in your house.

This is a nice little home security system. I like the more basic options, I wasn’t looking to go all out with a home security system at this time. We are renting currently and try not to make many permanent changes to our home, this is a great option to give a little security without having to install an entire wired system. The app is great, easy to download and set up and I haven’t really had any issues. I do with the packaging had been a little more solid, when it arrived the flimsy bottom had come apart and the pieces of the doorbell and mount etc were kind of just free floating in the bubble mailer it came in. I am grateful they used a bubble mailer though as there was no damage to the contents inside the packaging at least. It’s a minor complaint but something to be aware of if you are ordering this online and having it shipped. I like the size of this doorbell, some of the other companies have giant options and that’s not what I needed. We order online a lot more with the pandemic happening so it’s been a big relief to be able to know our packages are secure if they are delivered when we aren’t home. The pictures are clear and for the price point this is an excellent option for anyone looking for a little more security around their front door.

I have learned is that if the packaging is poor one needs to dive in a little deeper. This was certainly the case with this product. The shipping package was a heavily padded envelope and inside the device was barely surrounded by a very flimsy light weight box. (is it still a box when it isn't a recognizable shape like a cube?) Seriously it started unpacking its self the second I put my hands on it. Bravely I moved forward and the installation was quite straight forward. However, to get any useful features you need to pay: Here are some of the features of the lowest cost plan Called Cam Protect - 1.99/month Billed at $23.88/Year Per camera plan, add premium device features and $250 of theft and damage reimbursement to any specific area of your home. Unlocks features + coverage for one camera per plan. Indoor + Outdoor Cam Features Unlocked • Person Detection • Full Event Capture • Two-Way Audio • 3 Custom Self-Recorded Siren Sounds • Motion Detection Zones • MicroSD Card Playback They should have you pay for the subscription and give you the device instead of the other way around. Now that that is off my chest, I can say that the video is sharp and crisp with good color night vision which switches to B&W at a certain point but is still quite useful to identify who might be "out there." If you are not opposed to subscription services (and they have a multi device plan too) then this might be a good solution for you. Although the packaging was poor, the device has a very sturdy feel and I think it will last with all the weather we have up here in the north with cold winters etc...

Installation was relatively easy. I like that you just face your phone and the camera of the doorbell toward each other for the pairing process. I would have preferred a sturdy base and/or if they had not already pre-applied the 3M adhesive to the base. I chose to screw mount they doorbell. Due to the flimsy base and the compression that occurs on the adhesive as you tighten the screw, it starts to warp. I was trying to be mindful of this that I didn’t warp the base so much that the camera wouldn’t go in properly. It’s also disappointing that they use just a basic phillips head screw to secure the camera to the base. Doesn’t make it tamper resistant at all. With the camera installed and paired, the camera image looks look. The display format cuts off more of the ground than I would like. If want more of the ground, I’m going to have to move the doorbell lower and that would just look odd. There’s a lag when viewing the live camera as well. Enough of a lag that if you’re trying to view current activity, you might miss said activity. The app and chime function fine. Unless the camera loads speeds is a result of the app. At the most basic level, the camera does work and should suit your needs if you just want to monitor activity. Personally, I would not use this at high traffic doors. I’m using it on my shed in our back yard, which see less activity and thus I’m okay with the less responsive time for live viewing, plus I have another brand camera spotlight in the general area too.
