    New lighting brightens the interior

Love the spacious, well lit interior. The three drawers make it easy to keep organized. I prefer the side by side models because it is easier to find things and access them in the freezer. This model has a new, smaller cone shaped ice maker that I like a lot more than the old crescent shape. The new textured door handles give a more secure grip for opening and do not show fingerprints.

Water dispenser doesn't work. KitchenAid said to turn up the fridge temp setting because the line was probably getting frozen. Plastic drawers break very easy. Icemaker went out and they had to replace the whole freezer door because it was a wire that broke at bottom of door. Luckily that was a warranty repair but we were without ice for a few months.

We purchased this to replace our old Kitchen Aid of 17 years. We chose the very same refrigerator because it fit our counter depth space. The energy efficient label means less space inside - 2 cubic feet smaller, which is very noticeable. Side holders are smaller. Drawers are flimsier and don’t slide smoothly. The bottom drawer for vegetables is VERY small. There are more lights inside which is nice. Freezer space seems good. I like the shape of the ice cubes. I’m not thrilled, but it fits our space and chills our food.

    I got a lemon?

I bought KitchenAid Refrigerator side by side/Counter Depth 22.6 CU/FTT in 2019. A year later after warranty expired, the refrig side fan failed - twice a year apart. Each service parts and labor $300 total $600. Few months later refrig side not cold. Called service again found thermal stat failed. Parts and labor cost $200 (FYI, parts were all Whirlpool). 2023, found water builtup on the refrig side and also moisture on the wall. I was wiping moisture every other day to avoid mold. Service guy came and checked was told it needed new door seal but upon checking refrigerator model/seral number, he said the model I had the door seal is not replaceable. I needed a new door - $1300 and the door is on back order minimum wait time is 3 months. I declined and paid $85 for service call. Less than 5 years. Total repair costs were over $3000. Maybe It’s my bad luck that I bought a lemon??!! Good or bad, you decide. For $1300, I went ahead purchased brand new Samsung. So far so good. Let’s see how it goes.

    Very disappointed with Kitchenaid

We bought this refrigerator for our new home about a year ago. It started making a funny noise and froze up about 3 months later. We called Kitchenaid and they had their repair company ASI come out. It takes at least 2 visits for every repair, one to see what it needs, order parts and one to replace. They use a hot air dryer to defrost the refrigerator. It quits making noise until the come to fix it. We did this in September and again in January. Both times the repair technician said this unit does this a lot. He thought by the third time Kitchenaid would replace the unit. So, today I called again, because it is frozen over one more time. They are sending out the same repair company again. Now they have replaced the specific part twice and the motor once for good measure. I don’t know how replacing the same part for the third time is going to help. We got a lemon and it needs to be replaced! I bought Kitchenaid because it had a great reputation. We bought an oven, stove top, microwave, dishwasher and the refrigerator. I am sorry that we bought this refrigerator that needs to be fixed every 3-4 months! Very disappointed!

Don't Buy This Fridge: Electrical problems

We bought this fridge 6 years ago and it's been nothing but trouble. The wires that run to the freezer door, to power the ice-maker and water dispenser, have broken 5 times in the 6 years we've owned the fridge. The movement of the door flexes the wires and they just break over and over again The LED lights in the freezer stopped working 4 years in, and now the defrost unit in the back of the fridge is dead. Call me crazy, but a fridge should last more than 6 years. We're never buying Kitchenaid again.

Just wished the shelves had more height adjustable options. After 9 days the water stopped flowing but KitchenAid sent a tech which fixed the issue by sealing the reservoir tank inside the refrigerator. Hopefully it continues to work.

Worst purchase ever--freon leak after < 3 months

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Worst purchase ever. Freon leak after less than 3 months--refrigerator spewed freon fumes into our entire house, made us sick, and ruined our food. This is clearly a manufacturer defect but Kitchen Aid is refusing to replace the unit. Their policy is to attempt to fix the unit, even though the parts aren't available, are on backorder, and they will not provide any estimated date for when they'll be available. They also refuse to provide updates, forcing us to call and wait on hold for 30-60 minutes just to get an update that there is still no estimated date. We will be without a working fridge for the foreseeable future--minimum is the 3 weeks they have to fix the unit under their policy and likely more because replacing it will take even longer. Best Buy similarly refuses to do anything to fix or replace the unit more quickly, despite selling and delivering to us a defective product. I purchased two Kitchen Aid appliances (this fridge and a microwave) in November and both broke down entirely within 1-3 months of purchase. Being without a microwave for 3-6 weeks while Kitchen Aid replaced it was one thing; that long without a working fridge or freezer is untenable. Buyer beware.

Very serious design flaw - Ice builds up

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This refrigerator has 2 design flaws – one is very serious and affects functionality, the other one is use related. Flaw #1 (very serious functional problem): This refrigerator builds up ice on the evaporator (cooling manifold) inside the refrigerator section (the one that operates at 37F). Usually, there is a heater that is attached to evaporator which supposed to come one periodically and melt the accumulated ice. Apparently, this refrigerator has 2 evaporators – one in the freezer section and one in the refrigerator section. The freezer defroster heater is working fine, but KitchenAid decided to cut cost and did not install the defroster heater on the refrigerator section. And this is BY DESIGN. This cost cutting measure totally compromised the performance and the ice builds up every week, blocks air circulation and food on the top shelf get spoiled every week. Refrigerator is in warranty. Call KitchenAid and they sent in the repair technician. The factory solution was to re-program the control board for longer time between cooling cycles hoping to slow down the ice accumulation and hoping that ice will melt away. Did not help at all. So, if you do not want to spend 2 hours with hair dryer fan in front of your refrigerator every weekend doing defrosting – stay away from the “High Quality” KitchenAid refrigerator. Flaw #2 (small shelves): This is the 3rd refrigerator that I’ve bought for the same kitchen. All 3 of them were “counter depth” refrigerators and were in the same location in my kitchen. When, I tried to load up KitchenAid fridge, I’ve noticed that I am able to fit much less food in it with the same number of shelves. I measured the size of the shelf and it was 13” deep for the KitchenAid. I measured my old Samsung fridge and it had 16” deep shelves. I measured my original Frigidaire fridge (still serving me in the garage) and it has 18” deep shelves. I guess installing the 2nd evaporator in the fridge section (which does not work) ate away 1/3 of the usable shelf surface. So, unless you are planning to go on a permanent strict diet, I would not recommend buying KitchenAid.

I am extremely disappointed with this fridge as it only lasted me barely 2 years and it already broke. Overall within those 2 years this fridge was a good one but definitely not worth the price if it's gonna be damaged within the 2 years of use.

Make sure you get the extended warranty with this refrigerator. Maybe ours was just made on a Friday and everyone was tired after a long week but it's definitely a lemon. Or maybe everyone was hungover on a Monday. We bought our last fridge used and it lasted 25 years without a problem. The bottom half of this fridge freezes all the lettuce and other produce while the upper half is warm so the milk curdles and the meat rots... potato salad anyone? We had a repairman come out but to no avail. If we defrost once a week it hobbles along until the next defrost. I might add the drawers are difficult to remove and replace for the defrosting chore.

As soon as the warranty expired the fridge part stopped defrosting and filled with ice. Spent a fortune on repairs and wasted produce. Had KitchenAid Appliance Repair Professionals technician come over four times, installed new filter, new drain, new fan, new motor etc. etc. Problem never solved. Last time the repair guy told me, "if it happens again call someone else" . At this point only solution is to buy a new fridge, no technician can fix the problem. Absolute garbage, stay away!!
