I really wanted to love this fridge but.... :-(
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off, this fridge is beautiful. LOVE the platinum interior. Soft close drawers are great, slide out shelf/tray is super convenient. The plastic components (door bins, drawers, etc.) feel to be of a nicer plastic than other manufacturers - not brittle. The fingerprint stainless finish is awesome. I hope more manufacturers get on board with this easy to keep clean finish. HOWEVER....... 1) The ice maker is slow. If we didn't already have a separate countertop ice maker I would have bought one after a week with this fridge. You would think the cute little baby cubes (fit great in your water bottle) would freeze fast but nope. Our house uses a ton of ice but I don't think this unit could even keep up with a single person. 2) Freezer bins are very clunky sliding in and out. Unfortunately they're all plastic instead of wire. Son left a beer in there which of course exploded and there is no way to completely remove the drawers to clean under them. And no way for a normal human to reach completely back under them to clean either. 3) Water dispenser in door. I would have preferred no dispenser at all. This one is a bit confusing - two separate levers (one for water, the other for ice.) TBH I think the 'favorite fill' and other water settings are pretty useless but maybe somebody out there loves this feature? Lettering for 'water' rubbed off w/in the first three weeks. 4) DEAL BREAKER - I was willing to tolerate all of the above, but the unit continues to have problems freezing up behind the fridge housing and then it stops cooling. My Geek Squad repairman is great guy - but frankly I'm tired of seeing him. I have owned this fridge six months and am now scheduling my FOURTH appointment for the same problem. I am giving this unit 2 stars instead of 1 because I think the humidity here may have something to do with this unit failing. Even with keeping Energy Star setting turned off (a must in Hawaii), I just keep having the same problem over and over. And of course my last problem happened on Thanksgiving day when I had a ton of leftovers that needed to be refrigerated. I strongly suggest that anyone wanting to give this unit a try be sure and purchase a repair plan as 'insurance'. You're going to need it.

Please buy any other fridge
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We have had this refrigerator installed for just over 2 years. We are about to make our 3rd service call. 1 - ice maker stopped working. The flimsy part that broke could not be replaced without replacing the entire door. Several months later, because doors are not kept in stock, our door was replaced and we had ice again. 2 - the refrigerator started making a loud whining noise. Turns out the entire cooling system was iced up. Guys came and chipped it off and told us not to have to door open for more than a couple seconds. 3 - about 1 year later, fridge is freezing up again and starting to make that noise. There is frost visible in the interior bottom of the fridge. I will do all I can to get this significantly overpriced hunk of junk out of my house and replaced with a quality fridge. Not to be all negative - the interior does look nice. Unfortunately my food is all sitting on my deck (thank you cool weather) because the nice looking appliance won’t refrigerate.

Looks great, but problems - beware.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We splurged for the 4k+ fridge because we figured it must be a high quality appliance. And it looks so beautiful on the outside and in. Maybe it is bad luck, but our experience has been poor. We are on our second of this fridge as the first one was a warranty replacement when the first fridge started making super loud noises in its first year - and Kitchenaid was unable to source the proper parts. So we had to buy a new one and return the old. This unit we are on has always struggled to make ice even when things are going okay. But as of late it has been dumping water out of the ice maker which runs down and out the dispenser. The water that doesnt escape would freeze over and make the ice bin almost impossible to remove. So we have abandoned the ice maker all together shutting it off and recently been buying ice from the store and putting it in the bin to dispense for now. You will not have to look far to see similar complaints about the ice maker. But now the entire unit is not staying cold. We have had to move everything to our garage backup fridge and freezer as this stainless steel piece of art as lost significant cooling - and we are trying to get a hold of Kitchenaid or some other repair folks. Barely 2 years in this has been concerning thus far.

AWFUL WARRANTY from Whirlpool
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We purchased this refrigerator in September of 2020. 23 months later, on 8/19, the refrigerator stopped cooling. I contacted Whirlpool and was told they have 2 authorized service providers in my area and that both were scheduling 3-4 weeks out. I selected the one with the earliest availability. I called the service provider, and they were able to move us up to 8/29 because of a cancellation. They sent a technician, who thought it was the compressor, and he phoned Whirlpool (and waited on hold for 45 minutes). He explained the problem and provided Whirlpool ohm readings. Whirlpool told him that ohm readings didn’t matter in “these new compressors” and said the Orion board (a control board) needed to be replaced. The part was ordered and 10 days later, the technician came out to install it. It didn’t fix the problem. He again called Whirlpool (and again waited on hold). This time Whirlpool requested the ohm readings and immediately diagnosed the issue as a failed compressor. Since the compressor is part of the sealed unit, my technician said his company would not break into the unit to replace the compressor. He said that opening the sealed unit was like opening Pandora’s box and that it would introduce a host of new potential issues. I called Whirlpool and explained what the technician said, I was told they would find someone who was willing to do the work. The soonest Whirlpool could find an available technician was October 5 – another 4 weeks out. I contacted another certified Whirlpool repair person – hoping I could get him out sooner. He repeated the concerns of “breaking into a sealed unit” and said that if he did the repair, Whirlpool would blame him and expect him to fix any subsequent repairs (which he said he could almost guarantee would result). I called Whirlpool, and again voiced my concerns about the compressor repair. I was told (again) that the warranty states the refrigerator was repairable and that all they would do is replace the compressor. They again told me that the repair would be 3-4 (MORE) weeks out. They did offer to contact their “Resource Team” to see if they could find someone to do the repair sooner. I should hear back from them in a few more days. Since I had requested to speak to a manager, I also received a call from Whirlpool’s Escalation team. He essentially repeated the same script that all the others at Whirlpool had recited to me. He did offer the option for me to hire my own repair person to replace the compressor and said that Whirlpool would reimburse me. I explained that I had already contacted a second certified Whirlpool repair person and that he (like the first technician) was reluctant to break into a Whirlpool sealed unit – citing how difficult it was to work with Whirlpool on these types of repairs. His response was “well they’re just not trained properly” which confused me since both were Whirlpool certified. So, we are in week 4 of living out of a mini fridge; looking forward to another month or so without a refrigerator and then when it IS finally repaired the almost certainty of future breakdowns and months without the use of my very expensive KitchenAid refrigerator. I should add that before this issue, the icemaker was repaired twice, and we still must manually thaw it periodically. Based on our experiences so far, I would not recommend buying this – or any other product from Whirlpool.

Completely Worth It
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We had this on order for 10 weeks, but it was certainly worth waiting for. This fridge is beautiful, spacious and the build quality is excellent. The PrintShield stainless really works. It is a bit less shiny than bare stainless steel, but it is a very elegant look. The platinum interior is very classy. The fridge is also very, very quiet. You can hardly hear it running! The only negative is that the freezer lighting is really limited. Given the light show going on the in fridge section, you think there would be more lighting in the freezer. Other than that, this unit is first-rate!

NOTHING IS EASY!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a beautiful appliance that I have not been able to fully appreciate since I'm reaching 8 months on my kitchen remodel. Today I decided to set it up with the handles, filters, bins, etc. The water filter was simple, so yay for that. The bins were ridiculously labor intensive; the bin support things were next to impossible to get in place - one side worked, but the other would not go into place. It took me about two hours to get this to work. I cannot remove the removable ice deal because there's a tiny ice cube stuck on the top corner of the bin which is precluding me from lifting it up so I can pull it out. Finally, the air filter. I didn't have a foam piece to discard like the directions said I'd have. No big deal. I snapped the filter into place, but I can't get the cover to go on. If I take the filter out, it goes back into place. Filter in, NO GO. There is a hard dark foam piece stuck to the inside of the cover, and I can't tell if that's supposed a part of it , or if that's the foam piece the directions mentioned. It's secured to the lid, so I think it's supposed to be there. I'm and educated woman who's really good at problem solving, but for the life of me, I can't get things to work properly in this fridge. For what it cost, I feel I shouldn't have to battle with this appliance.

good design, but poor construction and NOISY
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Refrigerator is designed well, but constructed poorly. As others have mentioned, there is spray foam coming out of every possible place. The doors are wildly uneven, and the KitchenAid Repairman has said they are not adjustable, even though the manual says they are. And most frustratingly, it is LOUD. There is a high pitched whine coming from the control panel, and the normal running volume is high. The fact that KitchenAid representatives tell people to check a youtube video to hear how a refrigerator sounds, and even puts that suggestion in the manual, tells you that they are not meeting customer expectation in terms of the noise their products make. (Hint: improve your fridge; your customers already know what a fridge should sound like.) There are much quieter brands on the market. For the price, the refrigerator should be much better.

Please don't buy this
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a shiny piece of junk that no one should even consider buying. We had the misfortune of buying this four years back. It broke down in a few months, won't cool enough. That unit was so bad, could not be fixed, so KitchenAid gave us a new one. Within a year, the icemaker stopped working. Water leaking from under the pantry, and freezing. There will be water leak on our hardwood floor every couple of weeks. Finally it stopped working again this year. Scheduled and paid for a KitchenAid service tech. They said the compressor broke down, needs to be replaced. Sure enough, KitchenAid couldn't find a compressor for three months! Even with the new compressor, this thing won't cool enough, the freezer won't freeze. Now they won't even send out a service tech without paying first, not to mention paying for the parts and labor. This now goes to junk, where it should have been all this while.

Worst Ice Maker ever
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This refrigerator has a great appearance but any positives stop there. It has hot and cold spots where some vegetables freeze. Freezer temperature is not consistent and if you want ice, this refrigerator is garbage. Better have another source of ice because this is the worst icemaker on the planet and on a refrigerator that cost $4300, this is unacceptable. Even installed a new icemaker and it is worse than the one I replaced. Do Not Waste Money on this Refrigerator.

Beautiful but not long lasting -value for $ not ok
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It is beautiful. There is not a huge amount of freezer room - that is just FYI but not a flaw. Our ice maker failed after 5 1/2 years and, now at 6 years, the compressor or some other major part has failed and the machine isn't working. One person said the compressor might be warrantied for 8 years but I can't figure that out. WAY to expensive to last this short amount of time. Authorized service people near us have hundreds of 1 star reviews.

Expensive lemon
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Have had this refrigerator a while. At about 2 years some problems started cropping up. The icemaker quit, Water leaked all over my floor and Kitchenaid did cover the repairs and replaced the damaged flooring. Last January ( appliance is now about 4 years old, ) same thing happened, but was out of warranty. The circulation fan iced over and the refigerator was behaving as if the door was open. ( It was not) The circulation fan was replaced, but refrigerator mad a loud noise when turned back on. Six week later same thing happened. It is still not working.

Avoid at all cost.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this fridge in January 2017, moved into our brand new house in April, we were so happy to start fresh with this gorgeous fridge. Gorgeous is all it is. We've had all the issues a fridge can have: - bottom of the fridge freezes and cause water to leak, and to fix it we need to completely turn off the fridge for a day or two - inside screen stopped working - handles have to be screwed in all the time - ice machine broke and we had to have a technician fix it Overall, we've had a technician come about 3 or 4 times in 5 years, until it just finally completely stopped working all together. The compressor is dead and unavailable in the US. The piece is under warranty but not the labor. The motherboards + new screen + compressor (free under warranty) + labor was about $2100. Are you kidding me? The technician told us this fridge has issues and has about 5 motherboards in it, which he does not recommend at all. We decided to call it quit and just bought a Samsung. Good luck to you if you decide to buy this one.

High Pitch Ringing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sadly we returned it. It has/had a loud high pitched ring, similar to an LED light bulb about to burn out. If you put it in "Energy Saving Mode" it would turn off the ring. When you open the door the ring would immediately shut off as well. I was ready to live with it in ESM but then condensation happened. Running down the walls and seals and everything inside had condensation on it. The pick up guy said he heard it and he hasn't heard one do that before. Can anyone tell me if theirs does this too or did we get a bad one and a new one would be fine?
