Had 4 visits to troubleshoot an ice maker problem. Finally the repairer replaces an $800 controller. 2. Had the ice maker replaced twice at $150 a pop. 3. Had to have the drain hose cleared twice. It clogs and the drain pans overflow. This puts a couple of quarts of water onto the floor. Due to the complex design, this cannot be done by the owner. It requires the removal of several panels and connections within the refrigerator and freezer compartments. Overall, very disappointed with the quality and reliability of the refrigerator. For the price, one would expect much better.

Buyer beware
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.BEAUTIFUL refrigerator! Unfortunately the ice maker is HORRIBLE. First off, it’s TINY! Most importantly though, it had to be replaced twice in the first two years. Now, 3 years in and no more warranty, it’s broken again and leaking water out the front and inside the door. The ice it does make comes out in a solid block and won’t come out of the dispenser. $5000 for a lemon! Don’t be fooled by the wood and pretty interior. Waste of money.

$5k garbage

I've used the warranty about 7x to 1) fix the ice maker as no ice was being produced 2) fix some electrical board that controls the fans 3) replace a fan that went bad 4) replace another fan that sends cold air to the ice maker 5) the electrical board that controls the water dispenser needed replacement 6) fridge electrical board died and needed replacement (this issue I didn't have a fridge, freezer for 1 month) 7) freezer keeps frosting the food on the top of the freezer, technician says its because the freezer is full and it sucks in warm air when its opened causing the frosting - conducted a test by only keeping few items in the freezer and not opening for couple days and frosting still occurred, the technician insists its normal - total garbage!!! Other reasons to not buy this garbage: - freezer is tiny - freezer creates frosting on the items that are on the top of the freezer - scheduling of servicing is a pain - always at least 1 week out and technician doesn't carry parts, what this means is that the first visit is to diagnose and then an order is place for the part. When the part arrives in the warehouse they call to make the appointment to come and fix- this translates to approximately 1 month to get the fridge fixed

Buzz/hum and whirlpool/kitchen aid refuse to fix

Has a continuous buzz or humming from the compressor rubbing or a bad fan, but because it “works” they appear to not think noise is an issue. The kitchenaid repair person had the nerve to say that if it’s noisier when it’s working harder then don’t open it unless you have to. Better get the Best Buy no hassle warranty. Even the Best Buy guy said he agreed it was noisier than it probably should be. This was 30 days after install. I didn’t buy their warranty. Kitchenaid customer service tried to tell me it was a bad install and the refrigerator has to be perfectly leveled or it will be ruined. Kitchenaid basically doesn’t wasn’t to deal with it until something is just completely not working, so I spent $3900 on a buzzing fridge that will probably end up in the garage. Our friends bought a Frigidaire for half this price and it’s silent. Go figure.

DO NOT BUY

If you are looking for a refrigerator to keep your food cold & make ice this one isn't for you. We will NEVER buy another KitchenAid appliance. Their customer service department is horrible and hold times are 45-70 minutes long. We purchased this refrigerator in May 2019 and we are currently waiting on parts for the 5th repair. Thank goodness we purchased an extended warranty. This time we have been without a refrigerator for 37 days because parts are taking 4-6 weeks. Here are the issues we have experienced with this unit. 1. Ice maker stops working constantly. Water leaks into the storage bin and delivery chute, creating huge glaciers of ice. We have to clean out the ice bin & chute at least 10 times a month leaving us without ice 75% of the time. 2. Refrigerator temperature issues. The refrigerator gradually drops in temperature and then doesn't stay cold at all. This has happened 3 times and every time we lost everything in the refrigerator. 3. Water dispense lever randomly wont dispense water. They have never been able to resolve this issue. 4. The freezer door handle does not stay secured. Several times a month we have to tighten the handle. While this isn't a mechanical concern, it is extremely frustrating to spend $4000 on a refrigerator that has constant issues. They have replaced multiple parts and some of them multiple times, but their 'complete replacement guarantee' has a lot of loop holes ensuring you will never get a new appliance even though they have tried to repair the same problem 4-5 times.

Unreliable, Multiple Major Repairs, Dead after 5yr

Bought in April 2019, original didn’t work properly so entire unit was replaced under warranty in May 2019. Major evaporator replacement ($1,000 repair) done under warranty on replacement in September 2019. Now needs same major repair again ($1,000 repair, not covered by warranty). Local service company STRONGLY advised me against repairing, as this is a notoriously unreliable refrigerator.

Worthless junk

It's insane. I refused to give up because of how much it cost, and in the meantime we've purchased a minifridge for our house and using an old Kitchenaid (with no problems) in our basement. I'm appalled by the ridiculous amount of time, energy, and food wasted, just for me to have to buy another refrigerator. I will never purchase another Kitchenaid appliance.

Do not buy even thought it's pretty!

We have had it fixed two times and condensation and ice keep building up under the bottom of the refrigerator. It leaks and has ruined our wood flooring underneath. We wanted something a bit higher end and we have been so disappointed. The warranty ran out and there was nothing more to be done. The sam issue keeps persisting. My husband is a contractor and just this last week had a client with this exact same issue in their Kitchenaid refrigerator. We are buying a new fridge and the salesperson said Kitchenaid is known for not having great compressor system to regulate temperatures.

Don't Buy

Three weeks later water and ice not working, inside of fridge was measured at 65 deg. Contacted warranty service who came out 1 week later and said they need to order an evaporator cover, which is on backorder with NO timetable. Asked KitchenAid to replace it since it's defective and they said NO, it would have to break 3 times in a month for them to replace it. So it's been since mid July and I have no working fridge and No idea if/when it will be fixed or replaced. I have 3 small kids and have been keeping food in a cooler filled with ice. Hasn't been easy. Bought this because it's American made and wish the company would stand behind its product. Maybe I got a lemon, but i suggest not to buy it, or any other KitchenAid product for that matter!!!

Buyer beware

After owning for 1 year it broke down, and has been for the last 5 months. Manufacturer not having replacement parts and authorized repair people trouble shooting and totally replacing just about every part. They are telling me that I must have a lemon. Now the extended warranty people (AIG ) want to buy me out where I will l lose $ 1800.00.

Pretty on the outside....junk on the inside!

Had everything inside replaced by a certified rep (control panel, thermoster, evaporator cover, seals and more). and still didn't cool. I've only had this for one month and still can't put anything inside. I finally got the truth about what's going on with all the problems with kitchenaid, whirlpool and jennaire. All are owned by Whirlpool and all have the same problem of the bottom shelf in the fridge freezing up where the cooling panel is and the top of the fridge not cooling at all. Whirlpool states after more than 4 years this problem has been solved. Consumers...it has NOT been solved and save yourself money and a headache and don't even think about purchasing any of these brands.

Still love it after 7 months

I have owned it 7 months now and I am pretty happy with the purchase. The fridge is beautiful and of course everyone marvels at the interior when they see it. Knock on wood I have not had any issues. One minor complaint is that sometimes after getting ice, a rouge ice cube will fall out onto the floor. It does make some groaning noises but I haven't had a fridge that didn't make noise.

Pretty - but doesn't work and 4K!

No updates till April and then the manager offered us lower end model till the new one comes in. Literally 2 days after we received the lower end model Best Buy called and said our Fridge was in. (thought that was odd but in the moment was happy to get the fridge I wanted). To this point KA were known to be built well. 27 January 2019 (while on manufacturer warranty) Fridge stopped working. (freezer works) Called Whirlpool for repair - below are our 5 appts. And still no refund or new fridge. every time we call we are told they are waiting on technician paperwork, however the technician confirms he's submitted it. Now I'm unsure who to believe. I think they are running the clock out so then our Best Buy warranty will then have to cover. 9 FEB first appt Tech confirmed not working 14 FEB replaced electronic component - doesn't help 09 March confirmed still not working - this day the technician discovers from the serial no. that this fridge didn't come from the new batch of fridges that had the issue fixed, we got something from a warehouse (old bad ones) explains why we got 2 days later after BB mgr offered us lower end model till it came in. 20 March replaced compressor and not working 24 hours later - called again. Today 25 confirmed still not working. Whirlpool said they would approve replacement but must have the above from the Technician. Our manufacture warranty runs out in April. Still unsure why this fridge is still advertised, Costs a lot and too many issues. When it worked, I liked it.

Ice builds up somewhere in the back of the fridge (not freezer) and melts during the warmer months. The bottom of the fridge section ends up being a flood. I had a repair guy come in twice to fix a part that is causing the issue, but it only remains okay for a bout 6 months before breaking again. He says to expect the same for the life of the fridge and that it all comes from a design flaw.

We love the volume compares to other counter depth fridge, but sadly, it comes up short in reliability. We have this fridge for about five years. I numerous service call on this. We finally gave up. First the fridge make tons of noise. We had to get that repair. I believe the parts was still under warranty, but we had to pay for the labor. Next the freezer stopped working. It was "repair", but it never worked correctly since. Now both the fridge and freezer is going out on us. We are willing to spend anymore money on this lemon. I would not recommend this fridge.

Loved the look but the ice maker occasionally will drop out ice randomly, and even though we use it throughout the day every month or so the ice will freeze up into a block, causing us to have to empty it out. But we loved the frig so much that we learned to live with these quirks. But after owning it just over 2 years, it stopped cooling. The repair man said the evaporator was found to be flawed in this model and had to be replaced. This repair visit cost us $800 for parts and labor!

We got 4 months of cold from our fridge

It worked for four months before it stopped keeping food cold. The authorized repairman said KitchenAid couldn't get the parts and has a month to get them before they "have to try another way", so god only knows how long that will be. We've been eating out of coolers and ordering takeout for over a month (to say nothing about the hundreds of dollars in food we had to throw away) while a $4500 steel doorstop sits in our kitchen.

DON'T BUY THIS FRIDGE

In the 18 months we've owned this fridge we've had to have 6 service calls. The fridge now only cools to 60 degrees and the evaporator is back ordered which means it won't be working again for at least two more weeks. All of the wasted food, and necessary expense of eating out for weeks for a family of five has earned me hours on hold, and a $75 gift card from KitchenAid. Since we've owned it we've had issues with the water dispenser, ice maker, cooling unit, 2 of 3 shelves have broken, handles won't tighten, seals have worn away and now it won't even cool. They refuse to replace the unit. Did I mention it is only 18 months old?? It's gorgeous, but SO NOT WORTH IT!!!!!!!!

Broken after only 3 months
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Not working after only 3 months and Kitchenaid sent a defective evaporator cover to supposedly fix the suspected problem. It seems that this is a common problem with this model. We are now 2 weeks without a fridge, and all they can say is they are searching the U.S. for the part and will expedite shipping...otherwise the part is back-ordered for another 2 weeks. Do not be tempted by this nice looking fridge....it is junk! If I could give it no star, I would.
