Worst Fridge Ever and We are Just Getting Started

We’ve had this fridge for about 3-4 months and the repair guy has been out 4 times because the water dispenser doesn't work. The repair man said our pressure is too high in our house. We turned the valve down and still nothing. He said this is a known issue and per the engineers at KitchenAid a pressure reducing valve had to be installed. It works now but it literally takes 3 to 4 minutes to fill a decent sized cup. It’s ridiculous that KitchenAid would sell a fridge for over $4k and you can’t even get normal water pressure. Tech said yeah these new valves KitchenAid uses are very sensitive. KitchenAid this is embarrassing and if I could get my money back I would do it. DO NOT BUY THIS FRIDGE. Awful design with the freezer. Can’t hardly store anything in there. The fridge is weirdly designed where nothing big fits right. Trust the reviews and buy ANYTHING other than this one.

Don't buy this piece of garbage

First, leaking water from inside the fridge. Second fridge, water dispenser broke within two days. Third fridge....the freezer just broke. We are storing our food in the $500 Fridgerdaire in the garage while we find a new, non-Kitchenaid brand.

Do not buy this refrigerator
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this unit in 2018, with Geek Squad protection plan. Since purchasing this unit, I have had to replace the ice unit twice. Thankfully both failures occurred within the second year of owing the unit. More recently, the fridge component stopping cooling. The refrigerator evaporator is clogged with ice. Apparently, this is a known issue because Whirlpool issued a Technical Service Bulletin in January 2019 detailing the issue. My unit is now out of warranty and I'll either have to pay out of pocket for repairs, or buy a different unit. This unit is not worth $4,500. Absolutely not worth it.

If you like constant buzzing this is for you!

This noise is constant, almost 24/7 and with tile floor the sound travels to the family room. KitchenAid say it's normal because that's the way the compressor works. So KitchenAid have decided that turning a quiet house into a house with constant buzzing is acceptable! Do not ignore this review! Do not buy this fridge! For a 4k fridge you shouldn't have to live with the noise, simply not acceptable KitchenAid.

Disappointed

We have already had 5 service calls all on different problems i.e ice maker was replaced, replacement ice maker is now broken again, freezer control board went, new control board for fridge is now on order, produce preserver freezes causing ice to build up in fridge, leaks water. To top it all off, every time we call Whirlpool (owner of kitchenaide) we sit on hold for 30-1hr. Whirlpool refuses to replace the refrigerator. Very disappointing!!!

Worst Refrigerator Ever! Dead after 2 years
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.The refrigerator is gorgeous and well designed. However, our compressor went out after 2 years. The service technician was great. Kitchenaid shipped the compressor upside down which made it unusable. Ordered a new compressor and had installed. Only to find out the condenser had been leaking freon which burned up both the condenser and compression over night. Had a new condenser and compressor installed last week within an hour it started squealing and blowing hot air. Technician coming back for a 4th visit. Hopefully to start a claim for a new refrigerator. Apparently the compressor are a problem for this design. Fortunately, our 18 year old GE profile still runs great because we have been dealing with trying the get it fixed since January 17th! I've always loved Kitchenaid, but think I'll be looking for a different appliance brand for our kitchen remodel.

Last month, contents started feeling warmer. Two weeks back, water came out from under fridge. Called tech. He said "common problem with these. the entire back board has to be replaced. 800$. Sorry". Right....me too. No extended warranty. Tech suggested calling Whirlpool and "nicely" asking if they would/could comp us since it's less then two years old and that you've read reviews where this is a common problem. So, I call and do exactly that. Lady on the other end toes the company line "we haven't had this feedback at all". Offers no help. This will be the last Whirlpool ( I guess they own KitchenAid) product I EVER purchase.

Defective ice-maker is over $1,000??
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.After reading other reviews, it appears that this refrigerator has a known problem with defective a ice maker. A technician came out today and said that the whole panel needs to be replaced and it would be over $1,000! I've only had the refrigerator for abour 4-5 years, and it's a very expensive, supposedly high-end product. The whole brain shouldn't fail in that amount of time. Or maybe the tech doesn't know how to troubleshoot and they just want to replace everything to make sure they get it right. I don't know. Super upset and frustrated.

Do Not Buy This Fridge

Ice maker has been serviced for times and they cannot get it to work properly. Ice becomes a solid chunk and must be completely emptied and defrosted at least once a week. Also, ice dispenser labels have when off after less than two years. None of the shelves are tall enough to accommodate a gallon of milk height container (hard to believe). I bought KitchenAid to avoid issues and regret it now.

Bad Refrigerator and Horrible Service
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Since our refrigerator went out in September of 2023 we had a 3rd party tech come out the first time, then we had 5, yes 5 visits by the Geek squad techs to try and fix this. It’s now February of 2024 and our refrigerator is still not working. The Geek squad tech, who has been responsive, says it’s likely a sealed system issue. So now we have the initial 3rd party tech coming out again in a week for our 7th appointment, but their scheduling service has been clear: if it is a sealed system issue, they won’t be able to fix it and I’ll have to schedule another appointment. So that will be appointment #8 over six months and still no functioning refrigerator. BTW one of the times we discovered the fridge wasn’t working was Thanksgiving am when the internal temp of our turkey was 50 degrees for days. Thanks KitchenAid and Best Buy. This has been a horrible experience with both of you.

GARBAGE

Major REGRETS with this Major Appliance
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.We’ve had to have repair services performed on this refrigerator more times than we’d like for the 5 few years we’ve owned it. Our latest issue is that our refrigerator/freezer completely went out right before Christmas. No cooling, no freezing. All our holiday groceries ruined and left unsalvageable. We waited for not just weeks but MONTHS for parts to be available. After a few frustrating calls with Kitchenaid/Whirlpool support where we were promised a NEW fridge but then told that we were not being given one a part was suddenly “en route” and a gift card for the inconvenience. They refused to honor the policy to refund price of the rotten groceries as well. Our appliance repair technician was far from surprised when coming out to fix this model and stated it’s probably the worst appliance I could have chose. Once our repair was done we noticed that only the refrigerator part now works but our freezer is still out of service. We are waiting indefinitely for another part to fix this issue. I’m writing this review SIX MONTHS later to warn others that while this appliance is beautiful it’s extremely flawed and the customer service from the manufacturer is beyond unsatisfactory and absolutely unacceptable.

Looks great

Offered me a buy back or replaced with lower end models. I was going to live with the slow ice production until the refrigerator section stopped working. You'll have to wait for the fix before you can buy. Good luck.

This has serious design defects

KitchenAid offered to buy it back and refuses to repair it, as the design flaw cannot be corrected. I believe they are coming up with a new design, but that might be months out. People who write the positive reviews are doing so because it is an absolutely gorgeous appliance, but they will think otherwise when it fails.

Nightmare Do not purchase

Still under manufacturer 1 year warranty and they are going to be replacing the evaporator cover for second time. Froze up again and leaks all over the floor. Just found out it also needs main control board replaced because the one installed at factory was made before this model produced. They installed an old control board in $4000 fridge! Of course manufacturer will not replace. They claim you must have same problem 3 times within a few months time for lemon, or it has to be deemed un-repairable. I paid the money for a product I thought was reputable but they really are no better than any other company. Don’t forget to calculate lost wages into cost of this for sitting at home for half a day to wait for technicians...multiple times in my case.

It's going back

Due to backorders we understood the delay. This fridge is beautifully as many have commented; yes a Cadillac just like the salesperson says in the store. However, we are returning this immediately; it's so annoyingly loud, constantly humming and high pitched; there has been a few minutes of quiet, then it starts again. It's awful.

Unreliable - Do Not Purchase
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Within two weeks of purchase, the ice maker leaked water in and outside the refrigerator. I visited Best Buy at 17 days after purchase and was told I could not exchange it for a version with the icemaker in the freezer because I was two days past my 15-day exchange period. Within a couple months the icemaker completely failed. Service has been out twice, and it is still not repaired. The entire door must now be replaced to fix the icemaker. I was told it could be a couple months before a new door is available. As an electrical engineer, I saw the cause of the original failure (wires for a heating element were held up by tape, which failed, causing the ice tray’s motion to break these now unrestrained wires). I also observed the attempted repair, which was unsuccessful because there was no practical way to replace the bad part. I lost confidence in the product. I am also tired of losing time for work every time there is a service call. I will not be willing to replace the door when the icemaker fails outside of the warrantee period. (How long will complete doors even be available as a repair part?) I again contacted Best Buy and Kitchenaid politely asking to exchange the refrigerator for a Kitchenaid model with the icemaker in the freezer. They refused. Bottom line. As an engineer I was skeptical of the complexity of the icemaker in the door of the refrigerator section, and my fears appear to be justified with this Kitchenaid model. Do not expect support from Kitchenaid or Best Buy beyond what is their written policy. Expect icemaker failures. I included a photo pointing out where the defective part plugs in, and where the wires were taped to the inside of the refidgerator. I can't help but wonder if other parts of the refidgerator are built in a similar manner.
