For $1000 I would expect this dishwasher to last 10 plus years. After 3.5 years it is stopping midcycle. Do not recommend

Does not last more than 4 years

The dishwasher has stopped working in less than 4 years. It is suspected that the control panel has a fault and the wash cycle keeps cancelling automatically. The detergent tablet never fully dissolves as well. This is not expected that a big brand like KitchenAid would build a product that costs $900 but does not even last more than 4 years.

Bought this dishwasher 3.5 years ago. We have never been pleased with the cleaning quality from this dishwasher, and the cycle runs way too long. We regularly have to run a cycle with vinegar to get rid of the build-up that is left behind. But we've dealt with it for a few years, because we spent a lot on this dishwasher. Now, we can't run a cycle because the heater has gone out. (Can't even run a wash cycle and manually dry due to the heating going out???) Estimate to repair is $300. Instead of repairing, we're buying a new dishwasher, and it won't be KitchenAid, which makes me sad. I bought all KitchenAid appliances when we bought our house 3.5 years ago. The fan on the oven went out after 2.5 years and now the dishwasher heater for drying has gone out after 3.5. We had cheap appliances at our last house, & they were still working 10 years later when we moved.

    A Big, Expensive Disappointment

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I do not have enough words to describe how INCREDIBLY disappointed I am at the reliability of this dishwasher. When we were purchasing a new dishwasher only three years ago, we spent more to buy a KitchenAid since we thought that they were durable, high-quality, and reliable machines. Unfortunately, that has not been the case, and it has actually been the diametric opposite. We have had about 10 service calls for it in the past 2+ years. So far, we've had to replace: •The top controls- due to them randomly turning on and blinking when not in use •Main control board- after replacing the top controls didn't work •Door hinges- when it wouldn't close properly and the steam from the dry cycle would expand and push the door enough to make it think it was open and re-closed without pressing start mid-cycle, causing it to beep continuously until you press start again. These repairs were all made while it was still under its one year manufacturer's warranty. The issues all began before it was even a year old! Now it has failed again almost three years to the day that it was installed, and we are in need of a new pump motor. It is leaking and not cleaning dishes properly. It also is not getting enough water and if we want to use it, we will have to add water to the tub ourselves to run it and keep a cookie sheet underneath it to catch the leaks, which in my opinion, is absolutely ridiculous to have to do to use a $1000+ "high-end" dishwasher that is only three years old. To repair it will cost $500-600 (essentially the cost of a new, lower-end dishwasher). The features on it are great, and I loved it when it actually worked, which honestly makes it even more disappointing, but I would not recommend this problem-ridden machine to my worst enemy.

failed circulation pump after 26 months

Purchased from Best Buy in September 2016, worked great while it worked. Two days ago, the wife notices a hot plastic burning smell. I took a look and ran a cycle. Circulation pump with part number: W10902589 has failed. The pump gets very hot and does not work. Symptoms of the failed pump were no water coming out of the jets and the hot smell. Reading reviews from a variety of online vendors shows this failed circulation pump to be a fairly common issue with the KitchenAid kdtm354dss model. The OEM circulation pump for replacement costs $242 without installation. I generally do not purchase extended warranties from Best Buy but I would if I had to do it all over again. Nice machine but two years before a costly repair is not good.

    Good at first, terrible service

We really liked this product for about six months. It then began not to perform as well; the dishes were not getting as clean and once in a while it would pop open during the cycle. At the year mark, though, it broke with trouble draining. We have now replaced the motor and controller twice and it is still not working - technician comes back to replace the touch pad later this week. We bought extended warranty so we're not out any money, but having to be available four times, without an end in sight, and without a dishwasher, has been frustrating.

I have no idea if this is a good dishwasher or not. I will say the top rack is quite janky when you move it in and out and doesn't seem sturdy. The 3rd rack probably makes it difficult for wine glasses, too. This is more in regards to the installation. The delivery team was almost 2 hours late (past the 4 hour window assigned) pushing into dinner, and for those of you that has ever lived with a 2 year old you know this is the bewitching hour. When they arrived I had to finish 5 more minutes of cooking, get my kid fed, and then off to bed. They asked where my circuit breaker was to turn off the power, which I happily showed them probably about 13 feet from the dishwasher. They DID NOT TURN IT OFF and ALMOST CAUGHT MY KITCHEN ON FIRE. In front of the 2 year old because hey, why not cause a kitchen fire to boot and scare the toddler? It then turns out they sent a defective model, and I ask them to put my original dishwasher back in and that was declined. Then I had some guy on the phone saying he could come back in 2 days, blah blah blah, and it was just a mess. The delivery guys were just messy, made me feel uncomfortable having them around my daughter, and I just wanted them out of my home. I then called Best Buy to figure out what was going on, and they had NO idea about what had just transgressed. Third party delivery is not ok. Please read about the woman who was killed by her 3rd party Best Buy delivery people. So, after a hour on the phone I ended up purchasing another dishwasher from another company which will be installed this week, this KitchenAid will be returned, and I will never buy anything again from Best Buy. I will also have a close friend from the NYPD present for installation to ensure household safety. The end, have a nice night, shop elsewhere.

Multiple interior parts have broken over the years, then destroyed our hardwood floors due to gasket failure leading to dumping water out the bottom. We bought 4 KitchenAid appliances less than 4 years ago and only 1 of them is still working.

    Costly Repairs, Having to Replace

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Purchased almost 5 years ago. Year 2, the pump system was leaking and had to be repaired. Now, it is leaking again. KitchenAid will not help or stand behind their product. We are replacing because the cost of labor and parts is too expensive to spend on an unreliable dishwasher. In fact, we purchased three KitchenAid appliances - a microwave (has broken twice in 5 years), a stove (has broken once in 5 years) and the dishwasher (broken twice in 5 years). Prior to our KitchenAid purchase, we have never had an appliance repair. Cannot recommend this dishwasher or any KitchenAid appliance.

    Bad Lower Rack Wheels

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Does a good job getting dishes clean. However, the wheels on the lower rack break off at the center attachment. Even replacement wheel assemblies don't last. I have resorted to using bolts and washers to fasten the wheels back on. None of this should happen with a quality product that is less than two years old.

Pump and Motor Broken in Less Than 2 Years

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Purchased the item in June, 2019 from Best Buy. In less than 2 years, the pump and motor failed. While I do run the dishwasher on average once per day, I was told by a repairman that it is "excessive use". The pump and motor have been on backorder through Whirlpool for over a month now with no estimated delivery date. I called the KitchenAid customer service number to see if they could assist with at least covering the cost of service since the approx. $1000 dishwasher is less than 2 years old, they told me "no" since I did not buy the extended warranty. I was told by the customer service rep that it is a man-made part, and it can break down. Unless you want to buy your dishwasher every 2 years, save yourself time, money and headaches and go with a more reliable brand.

Very Disappointed Of Product & Service

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

We have had this model for about 3 or 4 years. After one week, the pump needed to be replaced. (Factory Warranty - a good thing!) After 2 years, it began making a noise and needed repeated "re-starts". After calling Geek Squad to send a repair person, I was told since it was no longer under warranty and we did not purchase the maintenance plan, they would not service. Had an independent repair person out and he did a factory reset. He said if we had further issues, the circuit board would need replacing - to the tune of $500.00. Here we are, 4 months later and it is acting up again. Will never have another Kitchen Aid product ever again. Also, will probably not buy another appliance from Best Buy due to their service department rules. There are other stores available that are more customer friendly.

    Buyer Beware

Buyer Beware. I purchased a new KitchenAid dishwasher three years ago and it's needed to be serviced twice now. First problem was with drying and the second was with the water diverter leaking all over my hardwood floor. Most new Kitchenaid dishwashers use the same diverter design. I now have $500.00 in damage to my floor...

First few month after I bought plastic soap dish broke. When one year warranty was done, broke again. I super glued it. Touchpad is dead very often. I turn the electricity of for few hours to it, and it would start. I am sick of it. But today it would not start at all. I would never ever buy anything Kitchen Aid again. I am taking dishes out and hand washing.

BRAND NEW: Bad Door Latch and Thumping Sound.

Just paid for installation a week ago. From the start I though the door latch did not shut securely. First full load tonight. Had to keep pushing on the door to try and get the machine to go. Filled and unfilled top rack to see if something was blocking the door. Found nothing. Also machine is making a thumping sound when it is filling. Not quiet. Third rack at the very top doesn't hold much but it does interfere with glasses on the rack below. Replaced a 15 yr old Bosch. Now wishing I had bought Bosch. Calling tomorrow.
