This is a great dishwasher! It is very quiet and seems larger than my old dishwasher. It has an amazing third rack that is better than its competitors. It cleans and dries very well.

If you self install, you find the KitchenAid Model Model KDTM404KPS Dishwasher has cheaped out on some things. The insulation blanket is not affixed to the unit and just lays over the top and down the sides. It does not cover the corners of the stainless tub. Because you have to adjust the back legs prior to sliding the DW into the opening, the insulation blanket will move and bunch up because there is nothing holding it in place. I had to tape the bottom back corner sections together so when sliding into the opening it keeps the blanket from being pushed out.
The use of a plastic garden hose connector for the hot water plumbing is just cheap. What happened to the brass? Oh, cost cutting. I have read where some complain about leaks because of this type of connector. Because this DW does not come with the 90 degree hose connector you have to buy it, or buy their expensive kit. The leaking complaints have to do with improper threads. Make sure the connector has the correct "Hose" threads.
Also this DW is designed to connect the electrical prior to installing. Newer homes will have a AC receptacle in the cabinet next to the DW and you connect the electrical cord and plug before install. Most homes still have a direct AC wire in the DW opening. If you have direct wire then you have to connect after the DW is in place in the opening. Because the opening for the wire in the DW terminal box is at the back wall of the terminal, it is very difficult to properly install the wire because of very little access. With the DW partially in so oyu have side access, you will have to measure the length of the wire end to install the "Strain Relief" first as there is no way to tighten the strain relief screws after inserting the wire into the terminal box.
As for the the operation of the dishwasher, I found it very good. It is more quiet than my high dollar Samsung that only lasted 8 years. Everything works as designed. I wash my dishes at night while watching TV and open the DW door slightly when finished. In the morning I unload the DW and everything is dry. I do not use the heated dry option as it is not needed in this scenario. For those who need dishes right after washing, I can see where the dishes can still be somewhat wet. If needed get the DW with fan dry option.
There are complaints about the basket design/layout. After 8 years with my other DW you get use to its layout and I too have some complaints, but nothing insurmountable. Give it time and you will adapt. Then when you get your next DW, not of the same brand, you'll complain again because it is not like this one.
Overall, I am satisfied with this DW and do recommend it if you can get it on a good sale. Now I have only had it for a week. There are no leaks, it is quiet, it looks good, the controls all work, and everything works as designed. Only time will tell how well it is built. The days of appliances lasting 20 years or more are gone. Most repairmen I have had out over the years, tell me major appliances are now designed to last only 7 to 10 years. The more bells and whistles, the more to go wrong.

Easy install. Make sure drip tray with float is correctly placed and empty before turning on. Any water in tray will engage float and you will get error message. Quiet. Like the 3rd row. Didn’t think it would be useful but it’s great for tongs and ramekins. Dishes are super clean after prowash cycle.
Only negatives are the prowash cycle is a long wash. The kick plate has been changed from steel to plastic...for the price you can’t go wrong with this.

We are very pleased with this dishwasher. It has a third shelf which adds additional load capacity to an already large dishwasher. It is also much quieter than my old dishwasher. The dishes come out clean and dry. This dishwasher offers an option setting to extend the heating cycle.
Quiet, cleans well, just needs a real Owner's Manu

The dishwasher is quiet, seems to clean well, and the 3rd rack is nice to have. My only complaint is the lack of a user manual. I like to read manuals and the one that came with the dishwasher has a one page diagram for loading ideas that is hard to read and the rest is installation instructions which we don't need. We had to search the web to find out what the lights mean (clean, running, etc.).

I bought this 2 years ago and I absolutely love it!! The third rack for coffee cups and glasses and long utensils is fabulous!! It is so quiet and the racks glide in and out effortlessly. Sometimes I just use my foot to glide them in!. The dishes and glasses come out sparkling and it fits so much!

With four children and with cooking the majority of our meals at home every day, we used the heck out of our dishwashers over the last 35 years. We've had many. The one prior to this was also a KitchenAid stainless steel dishwasher but, we had nothing but problems with it, including multiple failures that caused flooding of our hardwood floors, leaks, and repeated service calls for various issues resulting in having the dishwasher replaced under warranty. We had similar problems with the replacement unit but, they eventually settled down. This dishwasher finally wore out and rather than repairing it we also decided to get a new one. We ended up going with KitchenAid again because this model that we ended up purchasing had a difference motor system and met all of our needs. It vented from the front instead up from the top which rots out the underlayment for the granite countertops or from the bottom which deposits moisture onto the hardwood floors of the kitchen. And it has a low decibel rating. We really like the layout and design; the three racks are laid out nicely and there is still a lot of room inside the dishwasher to be able to accommodate large pots and pans and our normal daily dishes. The rack tines are laid out intelligently also. Many of the manufacturers these days are laying out the racks in these multi-directional designs that make it impossible to accommodate anything but a very set and small amount of dishes. So far this looks like a very reliable dishwasher. We'll know more in time.

Anything we buy now a days works great until it doesn't.
The expiration date on them has become much shorter.
Our last KitchenAid lasted 9 years with heavy use. After a lot of research we decided to go with this one.
This one has a top rack that handles smaller items. It also has a different water jet system that proposed to wash coffee cups and travel mugs by a rolling jet bar.
I thought this was a great idea, until I tried putting my coffee mugs in there. Mine would not fit. They are normal run of the mill mugs for size. I called KitchenAid to ask about it and it seems that on the little mugs 8 oz? will fit. So, I put cereal bowls, small condiment bowls & short juice glasses there. This top shelf also has area for small utensils or other items that may fall thru the lower racks that I like and put the tops to our travel mugs. Very nice!
This model has a TON OF ROOM! After utilizing the top rack, I now have so much room to put other items. There is a good amount of space from the top rack to the second rack and second rack to the bottom rack. I am able to wash my stainless pots and pans in the bottom with my dinner plates and still have a lot of room left in the middle rack for the other dishes. I wash the large Instant Pot Insert on the bottom rack and it washes perfectly!
It is fairly quiet, but we always run it delayed after we go to bed and can't hear it from our room.
I like buying our appliances from Best Buy as we have the yearly inclusive warranty plan that covers all the things we buy in that year at one time. No individual plans to buy. Plus we get lower pricing because of our status with Best Buy.

I've had this almost a month and I Like it! .. As much as one could like a dishwasher. No problems at all. I love that the third rack has a removable tray that you can wash things vertically but laying down. For example spatulas, wooden scrapers, big knives, etc. They just lay down but upright in the tray on the third rack. Awesome.
My only critique, and it's minor, and it's one I have with all dishwashers: The racks never feel sturdy enough. I'm sure there's a very good reason why the racks jiggle jiggle, and have so much play, but there it is. I wish the racks were more solid.
But that's super minor compared to the overall. It's very quiet, and you really have to stand in front of it to hear it. It cleans well, and I try to load it up as much as I can.
The towel bar is also really nice. The recessed handles always got dirty in there, and it never felt comfortable. The towel bar is stylish with knurling, and I think its' great.

This is my first experience with this brand and it's an excellent dishwasher. It cleans the dishes very well and is extremely quiet. I've had no problems with it fitting all of my dishes and pots and pans. I also like the 3rd rack on top. I use it for my cooking knives and smaller items. It has definitely exceeded my expectations and I would highly recommend it.

This Kitchen Aid dishwasher is wonderful. So quiet that you check to make sure it is running. The third tray I didn’t know I needed has become essential. It was surprising just how many dishes, glassware and utensils it holds. Everything is cleaned exactly as wanted. Clean and shiny. I would recommend this to everyone.

Love the dishwasher! It is so quiet we strain to hear it. The top third row is great for all the odds and ends or cups and glasses. Cleans great! Dries pretty well, I still will touch the top of my cups with a clean cloth to absorb the water that sits on top, but other than that, I love it.

Replaced my 8 year old dishwasher with this one after it died. I was blown away by how quiet it is. You almost have to do a double take to make sure it’s on. The 3rd rack comes in handy for small cups and silverware. Easy glide racks make getting dishes in and out easy. Dishes come out sparkling clean and dry. Highly recommend it!

It has only been a few months...but we love this dishwasher!! We upgraded from a 10 year old bosh that was held together with lots of replacement parts and good spirits. Wow has a lot changed since then... The inside of this unit is huge! It is more than enough to handle the dishes of our family of four. We have found it to be very quiet, great in cleaning and I will admit how much of a convenience it is to have heated drying. The dishwasher has a tiny light at the front that lets you know when it is washing (blue), drying (red) and done (white). My only somewhat negative is the third rack. The intended use for cups and utensils is great if your stuff is the same size as theirs, but with two teenage boys...we have oversized everything. So we have modified its use to our purposes and appreciate that it has its own rotating water spray for that level. It is a bit expensive... but that just may be my feeling since I haven't shopped for one in a while.

I'm happy with my decision! The 3rd rack has the best design above the competing brands. I hesitated to purchase another Whirlpool since my previous Whirlpool dishwasher only lasted 7 years. But the price was right and the 3rd rack was the final sell. It does an excellent job cleaning dishes, bowls, and all the gadgets you put in the washer. Quiet wash and a handsome design. I like it.

Our Maytag dishwasher, which we had for about 30 years, was failing. It sounded like an airplane taking off every time we turned it on. I was all set to buy an LG or a Samsung dishwasher, but then I read reviews on the Kitchen Aid dishwashers. I am so glad I did. This is the quietest dishwasher we have ever had, and it also has a drying element in it, unlike so many of the new ones, so when you get your dishes out they are dry. It takes a long time to run a regular cycle, about 3 1/2 hours, but we are never in a hurry so it is fine. There are 3 racks and so much space it takes days to fill it up. The dishes and the silverware come out sparkling clean and I couldn't be happier. It was a bit pricey, but it was worth every cent. I hope it lasts another 30 years!

Easy to load, third rack makes it possible to load small bowls/cups etc. Dishwasher is very quiet and does a great job of washing dishes. This is my third KitchenAid dishwasher and is far superior to the prior two.

This is by far the best dishwasher I have ever owned. I have never had a dishwasher that could get the dishes this clean. The cycle is long but the results are worth it. No leaks and very quiet.
