Customers are saying

Customers are delighted by the quiet operation, excellent cleaning performance, and ease of use of this dishwasher. Many appreciate its large capacity and attractive design, while some find the cycle times longer than expected and the stainless steel prone to showing fingerprints. The adjustable racks and clear display panel also receive positive feedback. However, concerns have been raised regarding the long-term reliability of the control panel and dishwasher.

    Great Machine, Shifty Install Info

    Posted .

Salesperson (Garland,TX) was professional and personal (I later called and told mgr I was pleased). However, I was told I had a 3 week out, Monday install between 8 and 12 - then got a call 2 days before (yes Sat eve) and told the Monday delivery/install was 12-4. Think that might screw up a planned workday? Although a Supervisor was to return my call, NO ONE CALLED ME BACK. They showed up after 3 on Monday. THEN informed me that since my old machine was hard wired, they MUST install an outlet before installing the machine ($145) and since it was connected by copper tube (which would easily have connected to the new machine), they had to install a new valve with hose end ($115) or cut the copper tube near the valve and install a hose end ($65) so that they could use the install kit I was required to purchase with the machine. They had me over a barrel on install (reschedule would be 'weeks') so I authorized the additional work. My gripe - Best Buy KNOWS that 99% of the time old dishwashers are gonna need this because of their ridiculous install policy - they should tell you that you WILL INCUR these additional cost (instead of IF you need any additional work you will have to pay. THIS WAS MISLEADING! I could have done this in advance myself and saved $210 if they had been honest about it! I would recommend the product BUT would encourage BB not to mislead customers in cost and timing of install and would encourage their install company to address callbacks with supervisors. I would also warn POTENTIAL BUYERS THEY WILL BE PAYING ABOUT $210 ADDITIONAL AT INSTALL! Should anyone file a class action against BB for faulty practices, please let me know!

    A Clean, Sleek Upgrade

The delivery from Best Buy went great. Installed it myself and it's a standard installation, the only warning being that the control panel is made of fairly soft plastic and you have to be very mindful of the under counter mounting screws hitting it. It may be safer to go with the side mount, which is what I did. Only ran a few loads so far but I will say the machine is very quiet, about equal in sound level to the fridge when it's running. No surprises, everything comes out clean and dry, using Normal wash and ProDry. It's such a solid machine, that the small deficiencies really stand out. The knife caddy thing pops off the bottom rack if you look at it funny. The utensil baskets look like low quality molded plastic, and don't look like they will hold up. Time will tell. Also the little basket on the top rack should have a lid so you can wash small plastic items. That would make it actually useful. It seems the designers went 9/10 of the way to make a truly excellent product. Hence the 4 star rating. Still I would recommend it based on my experience so far.

4 stars so far as I have only tried 1 setting. Normal wash with heated drying. I like the steel tub and racks There are also some baskets which are plastic The tines in the racks are adjustable. Dries plates well. Mugs and glasses should be put at an angle for proper drying. Internal layout is flexible. Geek squad installed it. They were competent.

It gets the dishes clean when it’s working. I have had the repair team out 5 times and the dishwasher never works right. I have to manually fill the bottom with water for the dishwasher to run properly other wise it will start the cycle with no water unit and almost caught my house on fire. Now I am just months out of the warranty and it has stopped working altogether. Save your money and frustration and buy something else.

I bought this Kitchen Aid after I had a Samsung removed for not working correctly. Installers mentioned that they have removed several Samsung dishwashers. This Kitchen Aid model is exceptional. Entire stainless steel tub, easy gliding racks and attractive exterior. I have owned it for almost a year. Since I don't cook often, I use it about once a week which I realize is less than most. However, it never has a foul order, dries everything thoroughly, gets tea cups, stainless steel bowls & glasses sparkling clean. I just press pro wash & pro dry and the job is done. Highly recommend.

I have had this dishwasher for 5 years. It's still working great. A couple of mistakes with settings but corrected with online resources. Our other appliances purchased at the same time have had problems. They were Samsung not KitchenAid

I would rate this unit as zero if possible. It falls short of its advertised reliability and high-end cleaning capabilities. While it performs well when it's working, its frequent failures are incredibly disappointing. I initially thought I received a defective unit, but after reading other reviews, it seems like this dishwasher is attractive in appearance but poorly constructed with cheap components. It's frustrating that a machine of this caliber fails so frequently and at such an early stage. Around the two-year mark, the diverter motor broke and had to be replaced, but the cost of repair was disproportionately high compared to the small part. Despite our dissatisfaction, we decided to move forward. However, just over three years later, it has failed again, this time with what appears to be the washer pump. It's unbelievable to encounter such a major issue like a washer pump malfunction after only three years of use. It's become a joke. We are now considering replacing it with a different brand rather than spending money on fixing our three-year-old dishwasher.

    KitchenAid = Poor Quality Dishwashers

Top rack bracket on our KitchenAid dishwasher fragmented nine months after purchase, spewing plastic into the inner workings of the machine and seizing up / damaging the unit. Think that’s covered under warranty? Think again! KitchenAid/Whirpool’s service technicians don’t think so! Don’t buy KitchenAid!

Washes great, quiet, but get an extended Warranty

    Posted .

Picked up the Kitchenaid KDTM354DSS5 in Jan 2019 and an extended warranty, it's performed wonderfully, washing dishes well and being very quiet. I like the front panel display and wash options. Some other reviews noted that the unit takes a long time to wash a load but the wash time is not greatly better or worse than other Energy Star units when using a similar wash mode. I've read that these times will extend further in the future due to new energy star requirements.   I chose the KDTM354 due to reviews and knowing it was/is built in the USA as well as prior ownership of Whirlpool, Maytag and Kitchenaid Dishwashers. Given these are all one (parent) company I felt this a safe bet. However I also bought the extended warranty for which I am very grateful as the unit itself (at barely two years old) has developed a leak through the Diverter Motor (believed to be item W10537869 but I can't promise this) Seal. It appears one can't buy just the seal (believed to be  WPW10195677) any longer from what I've read online, I can only speculate that Whirlpool/Kitchenaid has determined that one should replace the assembly in case the motor was compromised and given the cost or service and/or improved item design, a more reliable repair can be made, but this is something Kitchenaid can comment on with certainty. Given the unit is only 2yrs old, used moderately and my previous "better" experiences with Whirlpool, Maytag, and Kitchenaid dishwashers, and current online comments on the leak being "common", very disappointed that this failure mode hasn't extended OEM coverage.   Perhaps this is a rare occurrence but IMHO given the amount of comments online of the same failure mode, having followed the appliance market and reliability trends, find it surprising as this may be a design or quality escape issue, again only Kitchenaid would know this with certainty. As noted, the machine works great (other than the leak) but for me happy I purchased the extended warranty. I will estimate the repair cost to me to otherwise be around $250-$300 (or more) given the MSRP on the Diverter Motor (if I found the correct one) runs ~$102 (at Kichenaidparts), and the repair service around $150 to $200 given some previous experiences for labor and time given the unit will need to be pulled. Being in the Midwest the repair cost guestimate may be low compared to big city pricing. If I didn't have the extended warranty I would repair this myself. I would take the chance and replace just the seal that appears to be available in the aftermarket (supposedly some noting improved with "better" materials) for $10-$20 shipped and accessible via the inside of the machine by removing a few "easier to remove" items -  no need to pull the unit. I suspect given I "caught" this quickly, the Diverter Motor would hold up. If not I've noted Knock offs far cheaper but I'd likely buy the OEM version as it's noted too online by various reviewers to have been "improved". In any case, given my unit is only 2 yrs old, and regardless of my having an extended warranty, can only give this a 2 star rating. I do not feel any major appliance should fail within 5 years and I would expect an upper end Kitchenaid unit should last at least 10 years given my use. There are other brands out there that I may consider next go around, if this turns out to be the only failure for the long term, then I may change my view as quite honestly, things do fail and maybe I just got unlucky. I can accept stuff happens but as noted, given other reviews on line including one law firm seeking those interested in a class action suit ... which I personally have little interest to support ... a word of caution and suggestion to pick up an extended warr if buying this unit. Finally I'll conclude noting that Kitchenaid may reply with their canned answer which really doesn't help me: "We sincerely apologize for the concerns with your Dishwasher and would like to look further into this for you. Please feel free to reach out ..... KitchenAidCare. We look forward to speaking with you."

I bought this model almost six years ago. It worked fine until it died. The repair people say the parts to repair it (something to do with wiring) are no longer available. I sure wish I could have gotten at least a few more years out of a thousand dollar dishwasher.

    Had to cancel order

My low rating owes to quality control by Kitchenaid. This unit was delivered to me twice and twice it was broken on arrival. In both cases, the item appeared to be packaged broken, presumably by Kitchenaid. This was especially true of the second unit. The right door hinge was bent inward, such that the door was hard to open and close. The metal hinge does not look easily bent, so I'm guessing considerable force was used. Remarkably, the carton in which it was packaged had no damage in that area whatsoever. The drawer inside was also broken. BB scheduled a third delivery, but after Thanksgiving for an order made Nov. 1 with items listed as in stock. And I don't see how they could guarantee that the next item would not be damaged, given that the cartons didn't show evidence of damage. I cancelled my order. The contracted installers were great both times. I wish I could say the same for BB service. It required a great deal of persistence to cancel the order or even to talk to a live body. Ugh. Thanksgiving plans are ruined. Because they hauled away the old dishwasher before finding the first new one to be broken, I am without a dishwasher. I'll live but I can't recommend Kitchenaid products to anyone, at this point.

    Disappointing from Kitchenaid!

Worked great for about 4 years, then the top tray literally began to fall apart. It's like it's can't deal with the water and has disintegrated. Tried to repair it a few times but now think I'm just going to have to replace the dishwasher as I would have to order a whole new top tray and get somebody to fit it, would be very costly and I'm not even sure I could get the part anyway. Very disappointing from Kitchenaid. It is 5 years old and appliances should last longer than than. Also I agree with some of the other reviews about the stainless front surface getting damaged. Has worn very badly.

This dishwasher lasted a few month short of 3 years light use before the touch control panel just stopped working one day. It’s a 300$ part and is in such demand due to breaks downs that the part is on back order for 2 months. When it worked I was pleased with the quietness and washing quality. The racks were a bit cheap and parts of them started to break after one year of use. Over all however I regret buying this appliance. I shouldn’t have to replace it after just 3 years use.

I bought this bc I was told kitchenaid was the best for the money and reviews were great. I really tried to keep this but I just couldn’t get used to the things I hated. it was quiet, pretty, I like the front visual of what cycle it’s on. The top drawer rolled very smooth and it had lots of little extras to hold all sorts of difficult items. Those pros did not out weigh the cons for me. It did not dry the dishes. I had to let it air dry all day or hand dry. It was also smaller inside. I could not fit my big skillet on the bottom rack or even large utensils without hitting the top rack and getting stuck. I felt we were running this after every meal. Family of 4. I went back to the whirlpool w a heating element and more room inside.

Replaced a 9 year old Kitchen Aid with this model based on Consumer Reports review and rating and the ratings at Best Buy. First one was quiet for 2-3 cycles then the motor made this terrible noise, it was louder than our 9 year model. Installers came back with a replacement and when they were testing the machine, the drain was leaking. Appears to me that Kitchen Aid has a quality control problem, too bad, it cleaned the dishes well, but it sounded like an airplane taking off in our kitchen, they are coming with a Bosch tomorrow. I've spent way too much time replacing a dishwasher, should be simple,
