Customers are saying

Customers are delighted by the quiet operation, excellent cleaning performance, and ease of use of this dishwasher. Many appreciate its large capacity and attractive design, while some find the cycle times longer than expected and the stainless steel prone to showing fingerprints. The adjustable racks and clear display panel also receive positive feedback. However, concerns have been raised regarding the long-term reliability of the control panel and dishwasher.

Poor cleaning, doomed by materials choices

    Posted .

We really wanted to like this dishwasher. Unfortunately, after 4 years, we can't wait to replace it. The front-mounted display is really great (though why they went with a bar graph that's 24-minutes per bar, instead of just displaying the remaining time, is beyond me). It never cleaned as well as the Bosch it replaced, and those cycles really take forever (2.5 hours is common). But some bad build choices doomed it. The plastic used on the upper rack adjusters and other similar components becomes brittle very quickly. Fortunately, replacements for those parts are readily available. But a core part isn't. The "docking station", where the upper rack's spray arm gets its water, uses a rubber flapper to seal to a nozzle in the back of the unit. Eventually, this flapper hardens, so the seal is lost, and cleaning ability goes off a cliff and you have to prewash absolutely everything, and find soap streaks. KitchenAid doesn't sell that part - nobody does. You have to replace the entire upper spray arm at $120. The inlet water valve on this model is also known to have frequent problems. The dishwasher also seems to accumulate white residue that even its recommended Affresh rinse (every 30 cycles) doesn't remove; and it has a fairly common issue of accumulating crud on the bottom front of the tub (where the door seals), though not as badly in this unit as some plastic-tub GE dishwashers we've had. When faced with the "repair or replace" question, then, everybody in the family voted for "replace": "I've always hated that dishwasher; half the time I've had to rewash things, even when it was new." Oh, for the days when KitchenAid was the gold standard: Made by Hobart (who makes commercial dishwashers), instead of being just another Whirlpool brand - built like tanks and lasted on the order of 30 years...

    Not worth the money

This one lasted only 5 years, the most short-lived of all appliances I have purchased up to date. Numerous repairs were required to keep the dishwasher running during these five years. Most notably the upper rack adjusters have all broken off and been replaced. Now the pump is not working. I am not going to bother with a repair at this point. Will replace it with a different brand. Totally not worth it.

On second repair in 9 months

Just scheduled our 2nd repair. Each time it takes a week or longer for a tech to get here. Last time they replaced the pump. Now the unit no longer powers on. They wont be here for 10 days, and then if they need a part, they will reschedule again. Half the time we have to run a load twice to get foul smell off of dishes. They say its a plumbing issue. Never had a smell issue with our old unit. Geek squad installed this one. We only run it maybe 3 times a week. Its crazy that it has stopped working this many times in less than 9 months. Unless the exact same part breaks 3 times, it looks like the no-lemon guarantee doesn't do much good. I would not buy this brand again.

    Horrible product!

Don't waste your money. Bought this less than 4 years ago. Had a repair guy out 2 years later. There was a small part (a ring) that he said is extremely unreliable and goes bad quickly. We paid the $400 repair bill but he warned us that we may have the same thing within the next two years... It didn't even last us 2 more years. We now have warped wood floor boards and will not waste our money on another Kitchenaid product. This is honestly highway robbery for the cost of the product and it's inferiority. Additionally, it only reliably cleaned things for the first year or so. It's gotten worse and worse. We switched to only the Cascade products recommended at the 2 year mark and ran it only after making sure hot water was at the sink (which defeats the whole purpose of the delay function), based on the service guy's recommendation. It only helped marginally.

I have had this dishwasher for almost a year. I wish someone at the time told me about the lower rack. The rack does not stand up the plates! The sprockets are to short for the larger round standard dinner plate. Needs to be 3/4 inch longer. The Kitchenaide engineer needs to try it at their home to know it does not stand plates up, they fall like dominoes when the water pressure hits it , leaving plates not clean. I called to see if recall, or maybe a insert to help me. But NO was the answer- Well maybe they need to engineer a solution.Yes, I looked at the loading instructions.

    Don't expect it to last

Dishwasher motors are expected to last ~10yrs according to our appliance repairperson, but the one on this KitchenAid lasted just over 4yrs. A new motor is about half the cost of a new dishwasher! Very unimpressed with the reliability of this dishwasher -- beware with other models from this manufacturer.

Our year old dish washer started to experience issues. All of our other appliances were Kitchen Aid brand. We were concerned about the look of a new dishwasher. The Kitchen Aid model we selected was a perfect match. Well done Kitchen Aid.

Major problems - Leaking & Control Panel Failure!!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Do NOT buy this dishwasher!!! After less than 2 yrs the control panel completely died. Ok I understand that things happen. BUT, then less than 1 yr after that major part failure, we realized it was leaking from the bottom of the dishwasher into the hardwood floors. We had to pay a lot of money out of pocket to dry out the floor. To repair the leak, the entire drain pump & related parts were completely replaced. Then less than 2 months later, it is leaking AGAIN. Maybe this is a lemon, but I wouldn't risk buying this - hoping I can save someone else the headache. Additionally, the protection plan only considers it a lemon if it is the same exact issue after 3 attempted repairs.

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have owned this dishwasher for 3 years now and am about to throw in the towel. I don't understand how the reviews can be so good. It absolutely will clean nothing. We have to prewash everything. If we leave even the tiniest amount of food on anything, it will still be there after the cycle. The warranty repair people came out and first blamed it on our hot water not being hot enough. Then they said our water was too hard. None of these things make sense as the prior dishwasher had no issues. I want a dishwasher that actually washes dishes. Why is that so much to ask for. The one positive is that it is very quiet, but that is the only positive.

Do not buy! Pump fails after 3 years

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Purchased this brand new 3 years ago. Just recently the water pressure was low and not cleaning the dishes. We reached out to whirlpool and scheduled a tech visit with Whirlpool Specialist. The technician said the pump motor was going out and had to be replaced. They quoted us more than $600 to fix it. That's closer to the cost of a brand new dishwasher. Do not buy this dishwasher or any whirlpool brand. The reliability and customer service is horrendous for the amount of money they want for unreliable appliances they manufacture. Our next dishwasher will not be Kitchenaid!!!

We bought this in 2019 and it never was as good as the one we had previously. Had to rewash several times and it was a waste of water to do that. Finally STOPPED working in September 2022. That is only three years! My repair man recommends Bosch, so that is what we are getting next. No more Kitchenaid.

    Annoying buzz during wash cycle

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I was really expecting this dishwasher to be quiet based on the reviews and sound rating, but ours makes an annoying buzzing noise that can be heard down the hall during the first 10+ minutes of the wash cycle. I am tempted to return it instead of dealing with a repair on a brand new dishwasher. I assume this isn't normal. If it is, then it's definitely going back. Either way I am disappointed. I posted a video on youtube, feel free to let me know if yours sounds like this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwjW52hBOzk

I have owned this dishwasher for 5 years. In year 2, it required a costly repair to the pump system. The dishwasher was leaking. Now, at the beginning of year 5, it is leaking again. KitchenAid will not help in any way to solve the problem other than to offer me a new dishwasher at a "discounted" price. We are replacing because the repair - labor and parts - is so expensive for a dishwasher that breaks every few years.
