Not worth the money.

Fantastic sound system and voice clarity
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This has been my first experience with a soundbar as well as the Klipsch brand and I must admit I’ve really been missing out. The Klipsch 3.1-Channel 440W Soundbar System with 8" Subwoofer has vastly improved my TV and movie watching experience, most notably when it comes to dialogue and vocal clarity. I used to have a difficult time hearing and understanding dialogue and would often watch TV and movies with the volume controller in my hand. I would constantly have to turn up the volume when characters were speaking but then turn the volume back down when they were done because otherwise the action scenes were far too loud. Now, I can actually sit and enjoy whatever I am watching without worrying about the volume since the dialogue really is so much clearer regardless of whether I am using the built-in “Dialog mode” which is a very nice added feature. The sound quality in general is superb but this system really reaches its full potential when paired with the Klipsch Surround 3 wireless speakers which I will review separately. As noted, the soundbar comes with an 8” subwoofer that is also wireless just like the Surround 3 speakers. The power cable for the subwoofer is 6 feet long which makes it easy to find just the right spot for it. Setup of the soundbar and subwoofer was very easy as the subwoofer paired right away without any issues. Various input options are available. Included are HDMI-ARC, Bluetooth, 3.5mm analog, and optical digital. I had no issues pairing my phone over Bluetooth and streaming music and it is nice to have this feature allowing the speaker system to be used in more than one way. Also included is a subwoofer output which can be used to either replace the wireless subwoofer that is included or to add a wired subwoofer to the existing wireless one. Overall, the Klipsch 3.1-Channel 440W Soundbar System with 8" Subwoofer is an incredible sound package product and I highly recommend it!

Excellent sound and styling but falls short
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Klipsch has a well known reputation for their audio devices being high quality. Straight out of the box the sound bar and subwoofer are beautiful. Connection: The hook up is short and sweet needing only the power cord for each. I hooked it up to my television via optical digital cord. The sub pairs wirelessly You can also connect via HDMI-ARC, Bluetooth, and 3.5mm Analog IMPORTANT NOTE! I could never get anything to pair with it through bluetooth. I tried multiple phones both Android, Iphone, and Ipods. Which is one of the reasons it doesn't get that 5 star rating and why I said it fell short. Build Quality: First I'll speak about the subwoofer. One word ..amazing! Solid Hardwood, downward firing ported 8 inch sub, you can see and feel the quality of the materials used to make it. The soundbar is 4 feet in length. It has hidden LED's on the right side of the face of it which shows what connection is being used as well as multiple white dots that show the volume level as well. The LED's are dimmable and also able to be turned completely off. It also comes with extra end caps that cosmetically change the appearance. The downside is they're just cheap plastic not actual wood. For this price range I wouldn't want to see any cutting corners on quality materials. It has two exposed horns on each each end directed at the subject. Midrange (4) 3" (76.2mm) oval fiber composite cone woofers High Frequency drivers (3) 1" (25.4mm) soft dome tweeters mated to Tractrix® horn Sound: The soundbar sounds excellent and gets very loud. Crystal clear and the subs bass is deep rich and punchy. I've had a few different soundbars and usually the subwoofer enclosures were some sort of plastic. With this one being solid wood there's an extremely noticeable difference. The remote covers all of the controls and is illuminated. and has a rubberized feel to the top and buttons. Overall this is the best my television has ever sounded Huge negative for me was the not being able to connect any devices to stream my music wirelessly. But that being said would highly recommend this to others

Something doesn't sound right
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Klipsch Reference speaker set, consisting of the sound bar and powered subwoofer, is a good starter set, but I wouldn’t consider it a “reference” system. I was not impressed with the set at all, from the packaging to the performance. The speaker comes packaged with the subwoofer, making for a very long, unwieldy box. Unboxing takes forever due to the insane amount of packaging inside. While I can appreciate the care taken to protect the contents, almost an entire garbage can was taken up with the box, supports, Styrofoam, and plastic once it was all said and done. However, almost everything needed to complete the setup is included, from the speakers themselves, to a generic HDMI cable, to a generic optical cable, to the templates and pads for optionally hanging the sound bar or leaving it on a cabinet. The instructions left a little to be desired, given as how they’re nothing but stapled-together photocopies with unhelpful information. I started with the sound bar first, both because I figured I could test it by watching a movie as I got the subwoofer hooked up, and because it must be installed first before you can pair any other speaker. It’s a long beast; it’s as long as my 55” LG OLED, if that says anything. As my TV sits on a cabinet, I had to seriously rearrange the other items to make it fit, which included a Roku box and the base for the LEGO Dimensions game. My prior center channel tucked neatly out of the way, and I had room for everything. Due to the sound bar resting on the cabinet, as well as the television, it also turned out that the bar blocked the IR pickup for the TV. This meant that to turn the TV on/off, as well as adjust the volume, the remote had to be held up in the air for the signal to reach. The volume concern can be addressed via the sound bar set up, but I elected to run it through my home entertainment center, a Yamaha 7.1 receiver, so we suffered with the weird remote-holding-angle-tilt requirement. The bar is powered, which meant the first order of business was to find an outlet. My surge protector was full, so I temporarily ran it to an open outlet. The other end, the one that plugs into the bar, is probably the worst design I’ve seen for a power cord. I can appreciate the fact that the niche for the power and audio cables are set into the back of the sound bar, but the wiring should be set up so that the power cable doesn’t have to immediately be bent so that the sound bar sits flat on the surface. Rotating the input 90* would solve this problem. As it is, because the power cord exits downward, the bar tends to swivel at that point on the cabinet, making it almost impossible to keep it lined up with the television. The other bad thing with the input to the bar is that it *must* match the input to the source device, which is loathsome. I originally used the digital input of an HDMI from my Playstation4 to the Yamaha to maintain sound quality; my surround sound is wired through the receiver, not the TV, but there’s no HDMI-out to the sound bar. This meant that I needed to use the optical cable instead. However, because it was HDMI-in to the Yamaha, the bar required it to be HDMI-out to the bar; you can’t mix and match components. I had to change the input to the receiver to optical to match the optical-out to the bar. Now, not everyone will go through such an extreme setup, but I’m a fan of sound quality, so things are wired in a specific way. If you follow the instructions and wire the sound bar directly to the TV, you can avoid all that drama, plus, you’ll be able to control the volume via the sound bar, not the television, negating the weird angling of the remote I discussed before. The downside to this arrangement is that you’ll have full surround sound full-time, even while watching TV, not just a movie or gaming. Wiring it through my receiver also meant that syncing the volume from the bar with the volume from the receiver is impossible, even though I could program my receiver remote to work the sound bar. I was impressed with the fact that brown end-pieces were provided as well as black to better integrate the bar into the furniture. Now that that horrendousness was out of the way, I needed to install the subwoofer. To my surprise, this was much easier than the sound bar. Many manufacturers and retailers tout wireless speakers that run on Bluetooth, but the subwoofer, and the surround speakers (sold separately; separate review), are powered, which means there’s still a wire you must contend with, and this time you’re limited to where the outlets are for your placement. I’d rather have wired speakers that I can install to maximize sound quality. Right out of the box the sub was synced to the sound bar, so no additional setup was needed. This was the easiest part of the installation. Once everything was installed and synced, it was time to test. My baseline is a 10-year-old set of Definitive Technology BP tower speakers, a ProCenter, and a set of ProSurrounds. Right away I could tell the sound bar didn’t have the capability to reproduce the sound I was used to. It’s very bright and tinny, and volume control does little to improve it. Running it directly to the TV per instructions all but eliminates any type of equalization, and wiring through my receiver had minimal impact, even after I adjusted the settings. In movies that have a wide range of sound, such as quiet conversation transitioning to periods of intense action, use of volume adjustment is required. The volume must be almost maximized to listen to the conversation, and it must immediately be lowered once action begins. This requires the audience to be actively involved in the mechanics of movie-watching, which is annoying as I prefer to get set up and just watch and enjoy. As long as the bar is, there isn’t enough separation in the speakers to get a true front stage with left, right, and center. Everything is coming from directly in front of you, with no true surround that you’d find with separates. I tried moving my existing towers to front fill, and the time delay between the bar and the towers created an overwhelming echo that was awful. The subwoofer, however, does justice to its type. The bass reproduction is full without being overpowering, and it’s not specific enough so that you’re able to identify it in the room. Overall, if you’re just looking for a starter set of speakers to build a surround system off of, this is the one for you. If you’re not comfortable with setting up a detailed system, and you just want something that’s plug-and-play, again, you’d do worse than picking this package off the shelf. For those of you, however, who have specific tastes in the sound reproduction you’re looking for, who have some knowledge of running a true A/V system, and who would rather put together a system piece by piece, then you want to stay away from this one. The “reference” name is indeed a misnomer for a box set like this. This was a downgrade from what I had before, and I’ve since returned my setup to what it was previously.

First klipsch product I’ve owned!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve never owned klipsch audio products. I’ve always heard good things. Tho I never found myself buying any. I figured, hey this cheapo soundbar or speakers will do. Like most people I felt ok with “OK” speakers or set ups. But man was I missing out. You pay for what you get. And this is 100% true. This soundbar paired to the 8 inch ported wireless sub is way above what I thought they would be. Amazing is what I’d call this soundbar and sub. Klipsch has touted that this soundbar has the very best vocals(mid range) in its class. It even says it on the box. Which is huge might I add(box). It’s states dialog being its strong point among many others. But this really has amazing center channel vocals that pop. I love that. For me it’s like being at a theater where you hear the center channel way more then the left or right or surrounds. But that’s not to say the left and right don’t work well with the center. Because all three parts of this 3.1 sound great. Horn loaded tweeters are tight, high and crisp as well. Another well known design klipsch has implemented into their high end products. Wood materials are a first for me as well. Feels solid and sturdy. Sub is wood as well. That’s premium material I believe. Klipsch thought of almost everything here. They have color coordinated 4 colors to each input(source) very smart. They also added a button to dim the leds on the soundbar itself. Or you can turn them off all together. They can be bright. Another thoughtful feature. Tho, the remote isn’t perfect. As it didn’t come with batteries But I always have plenty and the springs to hold the batteries are a bit short. The door to the back of the remote is a little flimsy. But stays closed. Now the sub. It’s like any other subs. But way better. Hits very very hard. Like to a point I have to turn it all the way down. I live in an upstairs apartment. So yea. But that sub hits clean deep and sharp. Best wireless sub Ive owned. I didn’t try Bluetooth as I don’t listen to music on soundbars. I did run audio through the included hdmi (ARC) and a digital optical wire. Both worked good and sounded just as good. Dolby digital and dts sound great. If you want higher quality you will not be disappointed with this unit whatsoever. Truly amazing. Good luck and happy shopping!

A subwoofer that comes with a soundbar
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you're familiar with Klipsch, then you probably know what to expect, and you probably won't be disappointed. If you're not familiar with Klipsch... well you won't be disappointed either. The only thing this doesn't come with is 2 AA batteries for the remote; so make sure to grab some AA's. Beyond that, anything I have to say about this is mostly nit-picking. Everything about this feels premium and you can tell they paid attention to the details. They even included natural wood colored end caps if you don't like the black on the ends and prefer a bit of an accent. This soundbar is obviously geared toward more traditional TV watching, and it really brings out the vocal range, and makes voices really clear and stand out. I can't decide if that's a positive or negative, because I don't always want voices to stand out so much; but when I do, they sound great. But everything else sounds great, crisp and clear without sounding sharp. And of course the massive 8" sub that this comes with is more than capable of picking up the lows the bar isn't able to reproduce. And boy does it ever pick up those lows with a wonderful roar. Equally as nice is the ability to turn on "night" mode, which not only adjusts the equalizer for clarity at low volume levels, but it also turns off the sub to avoid disturbing others. A very handy feature. (Also interestingly, this has a sub-out RCA port on the back, even though the included sub is wireless-only and has no RCA port. I suppose you could pair it with a smaller wired sub if you don't have the space for the large sub it comes with). The virtual surround setting is... interesting. It did well at simulating a surround feel, but I also felt it made the sound a bit too sharp, and I don't think I'd want to keep it on. I'd suggest picking up the Surround 3 speakers if you're looking for a surround effect. Setup was super easy and painless, no sync issues. If you're looking for the best soundbar money can buy, this is probably it, if you don't mind the emphasis on vocals.

Great sound, easy setup!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted to find a soundbar for my old Samsung 6900 TV as the speakers on the set were shot. I originally purchased the Samsung HW-Q60R/ZA 5.1 soundbar and I was disappointed by the quality of the sound, the lack of bass from the SW and the connection issues using The HDMI-ARC connection which kept on cutting out when playing a Dolby Digital sound track. I returned it to BB the next day. One of the managers recommended the Klipsch Bar 48 and said that even though it was only a 3.1 soundbar I wouldn’t be disappointed. He was right on all counts. Connection: using HDMI-ARC which the manual recommends it immediately synced to all of the power, volume and mute functions on both my cable box remote and the Samsung remote. The soundbar turned on and off when the TV was powered on and off without any issues which did not happen with the Samsung I returned. The wireless SW connected in 15 seconds upon following the manual’s instructions. Other functions like virtual surround, dialog enhance, SW volume and Bluetooth are controlled by the Klipsch remote. There are 3 settings for the LED lights, bright, medium and off. When set to off they light up for a few seconds when volume commands are sent. Sound: the 3.1 system sounds much more powerful and has a richer and more robust sound than the Samsung that I returned and the wireless SW had a fabulous deep sound. Appearance: the Klipsch Bar 48 has a really solid wood and metal build with a black mesh like covering. The wireless SW was a solid wood. This is not a cheap plastic build like some of their competitors. Bottom line: the only feature it lacks is WiFi but delivers on everything else. You should not be disappointed with this Bar 48 model and you can always add rear wireless surround speakers to make it a 5.1 system if you so desire.

Back in the day…
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this back in Nov ‘19. Immediately needed to upgrade the subwoofer, but was definitely happy with that decision. Fast forward to today, when the the sound bar suddenly failed to work. Now I’m left with two paperweights. Remember the days when you bought electronics that actually lasted for years and years? Seems as though these days entertainment has a very short lifespan. Back to the drawing board I go.

I wanted to love it, but was ultimately let down.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am coming from a couple of older systems, and when I saw this come available after CES, I just knew I had to give it a try. A reference series with an 8" down firing sub? Klipsch down firing subs never disappoint. Except when they do. I was extremely excited to get this thing out of the box and get it fired up. I removed my old sound bar, plugged this in to my LG 8000 series 4K SUHD TV via HDMI ARC, plugged in the sub and turned everything on. Put on a YouTube video, and it sounds.. alright. I'm sure it needs a little bit of playing around, so I reset my audio settings and went for a Netflix show in 5.1 - That's odd, where are the voices? All I can hear is background music - so I turn on the dialogue mode, same thing. I press different buttons and try to come up with a solution, but nothing works except changing the audio source from 5.1 to PCM. I tried another movie, and this one sounds great, vocally. The Virtual surround is on, but the sub seems really flat. I checked to make sure nigh mode wasn't on, and I turned the sub up from 0 to +3 - there's some rumble there. I was hoping that this sub wouldn't be boomy like so many of the other sound bar subs out there, and it was most definitely a smoother, more floor-shaking bass, which is exactly what I like - however, even at +3, it seemed to get lost in the mix a LOT, and while it rumbled a bit when it was supposed to, it seemed the background music/effects would overshadow it with a sharp, piercing level. It just didn't sound right with some content. Other content was fantastic, but if I never know what I'm going to get when I turn on streaming content via Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Vudu or YouTube, then I feel I should move on to a different setup. At first, I thought it was just the ARC connection, so I tried with Bluetooth - a brand new show, 911, streaming on Hulu, had 0 up front vocals, and all background music. Dolby signal did not process correctly. I set up the TV to broadcast over Bluetooth to the bar, with the same result. I'd have hooked it up with Optical, but I wouldn't have upgraded to something with ARC if I was going to just continue to use optical. I hooked up another sound bar, a cheap Vizio, with the same ARC connection, and changed absolutely nothing. I tried all the same content that I did on this, and it all played with vocals front-and-center. I don't understand why this sound bar isn't processing it - maybe I just got a bad unit out of the box. My store doesn't have a demo unit yet, so I don't know how it is supposed to sound, but I'm not going to exchange it and risk the same thing happening when I get it home - so I guess it's back to the drawing board for me. It's a shame, because adding a second sub, or changing to an even bigger Klipsch sub was a real motivator for me buying this - but how am I supposed to use it if 75% of the content I watch doesn't sound right? I need this to be easy to use for the other members of my family who don't care as much about sound as I do and just want to turn it on and have it work. I love what this COULD be, but something about it definitely didn't work for my setup. I give it 3 stars for features, and the great sound it had on the 25% of stuff it worked well with - but really, it's more like 2.5

Stay away - big disappointment
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me start this off by saying, I am a Klipsch FAN. I have a full Reference Premiere set up in my basement, a nice Reference 2.0 sysetm in the master bedroom, an old SXT in the garage, etc, and have owned and enjoyed many, many, many Klipsch products over the last 15+ years. Nonetheless, this soundbar is a BIG disappointment from Klipsch. Let me cover what I like, and what I don't. PROS: Design - I really like the look of this soundbar, and it has a distinctive and elegant design. Sound - When listening to music, this bar sounds pretty good. Not knock your socks off (which is a staple for any Klipsch product). Convenience - Easy to set up and get going. Once connection to the TV, plug in the bar and sub, and you're off. Bluetooth works good for me as well. CONS: Sound - TV and movies sound only OK. The sound is very thin and doesn't deliver any punch. Subwoofer - I went through a couple units before I finally got one that would connect the sub most of the time. It still does not connect 100% of the time. Very annoying. That isn't even the worst of it. Sound wise the sub leaves a lot to be desired. I think because the bar is so small, it is crossed over at very high frequency? I think it sounds very muddy - and I am NO audiophile or an expert. Overall, I kind of wish I would have gone with something else. I think there is much better out there for the money. I got this on a very good sale so I live with it. Two stars because it does sound good with music - but that is it.

TERRIBLE PRODUCT
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this product because of how good the demo model sounded in the store. The demo model was not connected to a TV, but was playing prerecorded music. When I got this sounbar home and connected it to my tv the cound was as good as my old $200 Samsung sounbar. I bluetooth music into and it sounded great. When I attempted to disconnect the bluetooth source it caused this entire system to lock up. None of the buttons on the bar or remote worked and I had to unplug the unit in order for it to reboot and be useable. I returned the unit, spent an additional $100 and but the Samsung HW_Q70R and couldnt be happier, worth the extra money. My new Samsung sound bar blows this unit out of the water.

Bad product and support is WORSE!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I returned this soundbar a week after I purchased it and exchanged it for a Samsung. I have not had any issues with my Samsung. It sounds just as good and is a 5.1 channel. I'm very upset with Klipsch and even more with their support. If this is how Klipsch stands behind it's product, they won't get my business again. It took 8 days to get a response from support and in my opinion that makes them unreliable. I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to all the specifications of of electronics but I know what I like and I definitely know about customer service. Having worked in customer service for over 30 years, I know that the support I received from Klipsch was very disappointing. I do not recommend this product

Terrible!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We purchased this tonight after returning the Polk. It was open box excellent, no missing parts. When we got home, not only did it not turn on, but the hdmi cable and wall mounts were missing. We called the store and were told there was nothing to be done. They would need to reinspect the box. Gee, why didn’t they inspect the box to begin with? It would have saved us an 1.5 hour drive to get the product. What’s worse, the supervisor could have looked up the purchase on the phone and at least tried to help. Worst customer service. Will return and not shop here again. This is the second defective sound bar.
