Not impressed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My first impression after powering these speakers on was YUCK. I picked them up for a set of cheaper garage speakers. I also picked up a cheap 2 channel insignia receiver at the same time. The tweeters have a mild distorted sound all the time. There is not much low mid range. and the overall sound is muddy with a hard to put your finger on not pleasant high range. Also it seems that every instrument sounds flat with out any depth. Not the worst speakers i have ever heard but far from the best. Just for a test i hooked them up to a $3,000 Adcom amp with a marantz preamp and the sound did improve. With LOTS of equalization they can sound passable. There is just something about these that is unpleasant to the ear.

Older Is Better
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The build quality of the speaker is very solid and the looks are pleasant but the sound is disappointing. These were to replace an old set of Cerwin Vega AT-8 speakers from about 1995 in my den. The Vega's are 5 times a better sounding speaker than the Klipsch, period. Back to the store they went and now I am listening to my Vega's again.

Incredibly Disappointing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Having owned a number of quality Klipsch products in the past, I was tremendously disappointed in the R-15M. I bought these on sale for $125/pair to use in my workshop, and found that they were completely and thoroughly upstaged by my existing $70/pair 12 year old Pioneer S-H152B-K speakers. I gave the R-15M the benefit of the doubt and tried them with the high end systems in both my office and theater room and found them to have artificially bloated mids, lacking and muddled high frequencies, a narrow sound-stage, and a severe lack of resolution and overall depth. I use the Audeze LCD-X as my standard for comparing other headphones and speakers, and even at $125/pair, I don't feel that the R-15M is a worthwhile buy. In the <$300 market, these are easily surpassed by the HSU HB-1 MK2, EMPTek R5Bi, KEFQ100, and Ascend CMB-170 SE.
