    Bluetooth Doesn't Connect on Sleep

    Posted .

The Kyocera Hydro Life is a relatively solid phone with one major exception. If the phone is asleep, it will not connect with your Bluetooth handsfree car kit. This is a major drawback and had me seriously considering returning the phone. Then I contacted Kyocera support, and my response from them sealed the deal. I’m returning the phone. If Kyocera is interested in gaining any market share whatsoever, they better hire a new tech support team. When I contacted Kyocera by email about this issue, I was told that “That’s the way the phone is supposed to work. You’ll have to wake up your phone before starting your car.” I’ve had several pre-android Nokia’s and Motorola’s, a few androids (mostly Samsung), and my wife has an iPhone 5s. Absolutely none of these phones necessitated me waking them up before I started my car in order for a Bluetooth connection to occur. I’m not a software engineer, but I’ve written some code in my day, and I suspect that to fix this for a firmware revision would take about half an hour or so, and I suspect that the whole OS would not have to be re-validated and verified, but maybe I’m wrong and this little fix could cost a whole lot more than I expect. But is the savings enough to warrant not fixing? Because I am betting that a whole lot of people like myself want their phone to pair with their handsfree car kit without having to remember to wake it up first, because that’s how it’s supposed to work. This connection failure would almost be tolerable if I could connect my phone manually after I realized that it didn’t connect when I started the car. But even though the Bluetooth device shows “paired”, the connection request fails on manual attempt. I’m very disappointed with Kyocera’s support. It could be much better, especially if they’re in business to make money. I tried to replace my Samsung Galaxy S3 with the much more economical Kyocera Hydro Life, but as the saying goes, “You get what you pay for.”

    Best Waterproof Phone For T-Mobile

    Posted .

The Kyocera Hydro Life is the best waterproof phone on T-Mobile and its large amount of storage for apps and games sets it above the other phones in its price range. The 4.5 inch screen does a good job with videos, the speakers enable you to clearly hear callers and the T-Mobile HSPA+ 4G network smoothly streams music and videos. Music sounds great with good headphones and you can install a 32gb microSD card to store your favorite songs. The camera takes acceptable photos in bright sunshine but mistly poor photos indoors, typical of most phones in this price range. The Hydro Life is a BIG step up from the Kyocera phones of the past. It is the best phone in its price range on T-Mobile.

Front Face Camera Is The Worst

    Posted .

If you wanna take at least a decent picture while in the dark or average lighting with the front face camera it is going to look like you are in the dark! I HATE THIS ABOUT THE PHONE. The front face camera is VERY BAD in low/average lighting . Other then that the phone works perfect! I threw it across the street and it still works like nothing. Got mine for 50 at metro.

Great camera if you need a cheap replacement

    Posted .

My Sony Xperia Z's screen cracked, and I wasn't going to pay $250 to fix it. So I needed a cheap phone to replace it. I looked around, and this seemed like a good deal. I just switched the SIM card into to this prepaid phone, and it started working on my contract network. I've had it 5 months now, and it still works great. The 8 gb internal memory is awesome, because 4 gb doesn't work once you start downloading apps. I play a few memory hogging games and so far no issues with lag or video, so I'm happy. The call quality is ok, and it syncs fine with my car and bluetooth devices. The only drawback is the camera and video recorder are not the best. But if you just want a good phone that won't break the bank, this is the one to get. Don't forget, Best Buy price matches, so I called them up and told them where I found the cheaper price and they matched it.

    Great for traveling!

My 2-year-old Google Nexus 4 developed problems, and I needed an affordable, reliable, and rugged no-contract t-mobile compatible phone for a European trip. After checking reviews of various phones, I chose this one, and got it promptly from Best Buy. The phone performed perfectly for voice and messaging, and the Google maps app got us out of many a tough driving situation in Italy.

    Loving Life...the Hydro Life!

    Posted .

After buying a Kyocera Event android phone, I said to myself that I would never buy a Kyocera phone again. The Kyocera Event must have been the worst phone Iv'e ever had. Having said that, and fast forwarding to today, Iv'e gotten my hands on the Kyocera Hydro Life, and it may be the best android phone Iv'e had thus far...The build quality is very good, and the "Feel" of the phone is a premium. (meaning that it does not feel cheap.) It does everything well...Browsing the internet is quick as my laptop,Wi-fi connects flawlessly, and all my apps run smooth as silk. Cameras are good...The outside speakers is very crip and output volume is just right, (even though some might complain it doesn't get as loud as they want, but no complaints from me.) I am now a new Kyocera fan, and when It's time to upgrade to a new phone, more than likely I will be going with the Kyocera brand.

    Excellent phone for the money

    Posted .

Just picked this phone up as a replacement for a damaged phone. I wasn't expecting a whole lot from this phone simply judging it by the brand name, but I was pleasantly surprised. The Hydro is an awesome phone. The screen size is nice and is good for almost everything I use it for. The big draws for me were the waterproofing and other rugged design features. While I'm not going to go out and intentionally try the waterproof mode out, this will certainly help when I go to a themepark and go on a water ride and I get splashed or at the beach. The 4G speeds are pretty good in my area and the overall coverage is nice too. The phone's quad core processor is really great and handles the games and programs I use on a daily basis without issue. Overall this is a big surprise for me from Kyocera and this phone will more than likely hold me over for a long long long time.

Worst customer service ever from Kyocera

    Posted .

We bought one of these brand new thru MetroPCS. Lots of features and apparent value, until it breaks. Ours worked for two weeks. Took it back to the Best Buy, they said take it to MetroPCS. At their store, they said we had to send it in directly to Kyocera for evaluation and repair under the one year warranty. "Should take about a week", they said. Here we are nine weeks later (!) and still with no phone. After I paid to ship it to Texas, they took two weeks to evaluate it. The verdict: "unrepairable" thru no fault of ours, and will be replaced, as soon as they have one in stock! Might be two weeks, might be three weeks....well, it's been three weeks, still no usable phone and no timeframe for receiving one. In short, stay away from this brand like the plague. Kyocera customer service is stupid slow and unresponsive. I've left three voicemails at corporate 'customer service', but no reply. I can't remember being treated worse by any corporation.

    Kyocera Horror

    Posted .

5 months, on the fifth replacement phone. Group text messaging has too many glitches that I can't mention. Kyocera says it is the software & they have no intention of fixing it. Back cover doesn't fit well. Third cover, fifth phone can't be waterproof. T-mobile reps try hard & offer credit to buy replacement covers on Amazon and e-bay but they still don't fit well.. Doesn't fit so it isn't waterproof. T mobile offers only $5 to trade in for a new phone. DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!!!!!!!!
