Most drives from Lacie have Fire Wire and USB. Although the packaging doesn't indicate it had fire wire I was shocked when I opened it. Once I opened it Best Buy wouldn't take it back even though it was unused.

When the connection to my first one of these drives started failing at the drive port, I bought a second one (reviewed here). Brand new cable and drive. Same problem, resulting in some corrupted video files as the drive shut off unexpectedly. The only thing "Rugged" here was my loyalty to the Lacie brand. No longer.

I was looking for a fast and reliable portable drive to carry files when I travel. This one had a rugged design and seemed to be exactly what I was looking for, so I gave it a try. I've been using it for a few months now, without any issues. It's a plug-and-play device, very solid, fast and totally silent. I would definitely purchase another.
