I’ve had the Zeppelin catalogue on CD for more than 25 years and never got swept up in the remasters and rereleases – until now. The promise of better sound combined with a companion disc was enough to lure me in. Perhaps it was the psychedelic interpretations of the album artwork that signified “Hey, this is different. Give it a try.” The first disc is the original tunes in the original order. The sound is good, but I haven’t been able to crank it up or listen with headphones for a true test. One thing I can tell is that the bass is nice and heavy, and it’s certainly no worse than before. The treat is the second disc. Some of the rough/alternate versions are interesting enough to perk up your ears. We’ve heard these songs so many times that anything slightly different forces you to pay attention. My favorites, though, are the backing tracks without vocals. Nothing against Robert Plant, but being able to hear the majesty of music without the extra layer of singing helps you to appreciate the intricacies, timing, pauses, and groove in a whole new way. My only gripe is that the packaging is a bit flimsy. I had hoped for something more substantial than the cardboard sleeves. As soon as I opened the package, one of the corners had already bent. With so much effort and attention paid to these releases, better packaging would have put it way over the top. If you’re a fan, then you’ll likely want to add these to your collection!

I was hoping that the sonic quality was going to be really improved here, but I don't really perceive that much difference from the other re-releases (I heard that Page used the actual masters rather than copies like the earlier re-releases???). I was hoping that in re-mastering Jimmy would have punched up the bottom end a bit and pushed the sound closer to what they got with the "In Through the Out Door" session. I really want to hear Bonham in that fashion, but if you're a "mid-range" sound guy and Page oriented I think you'll like these discs. Of their earlier matieral (1-4) I always thought this album was recored the best, and was really looking forward to this disc and the way that it sounded on the old analog equipment - maybe my mind it just making think it was better than it actually is??? One cool thing is the old album art has been faithfully reproduced. Nice to get some bonus tracks and alternative cuts - nothing to die for but nice to have if you don't already have those things.

If there was ever an album that needed a "making of" makeover, it was LZII, a powerhouse of rock history, some of the most well known and beloved tracks in rock, like "Whole Lotta Love" and "Heartbreaker." Sadly, the producers missed a golden opportunity not including the history of these tracks in the booklet, which once again only features pictures and not any written documentation to one of the greatest rock albums ever recorded. The sound, however, it terrific, and it's pretty cool to hear some alternate takes on some of the tracks, but otherwise a major album done in a minor way. But, hey, you're gonna buy it anyway!

What more can be said? Two random points 1. The best bonus disc is still for the first album. For most of these the disc is basically a rough cut of the album. 2. I never noticed before that Robert plant is whispering something at the beginning of Whole Lotta Love. I dug up my old copy of the cd and it's there but only if you crank up the volume and listen very closely. If you're not expecting it, you won't hear it. But as long as the volume is at least something decent, you'll hear it on this version. And I have no idea what he's saying.

As a big Led Zeppelin fan, I was eager to get these remasters of Led Zeppelin mainly for the bonus material. However, if you already have the complete set from previously, this release is not necessary for the casual fan. The demos are interesting to listen to, but after one or two times, I can't imagine repeated listens like the album tracks. I couldn't tell a huge difference aurally between the two masters (but I am not an audio expert). So unless you are a die-hard fan, you may want to skip this one.

This album is a prime example of why Bonham, Jones, Page, & Plant are legends in the Rock & Roll industry. It has everything a R & R fan could possibly want. A bluesy feel, tight Guitar riffs, solos from the soul, well constructed songs, layers of music, & passionate vocals. For me the true cohesion comes from the rythym section. Bonham's drums drives the band ever forward while JPJones is ethereal on the keyboards & perfect on the bass Guitar. There are no duds on this their Sophmore album.

Led Zeooelin ll remastered and repackaged with extra tracks. The sound quality on the remaster is excellent as well as the return to the original gatefold packaging. The bonus is the extra tracks included on the second disc. Rough mix versions of Whole Lotta Love, What is and What Never Should Be and Heartbreaker are awesome. & other bonus tracks included. Overall it is a great product and I am looking forward to picking up the other Led Zeppelin rereleases. I highly recommend this one.

The idea behind adding the second CD is great, however having to listen to backing tracks without even scratch vocals is stretching it. A better alternative would have been to include a few live tracks from the period of the issue of LZII. Over all, if you are a LZ fan, you should buy as this remaster is definitely superior to the other "remasterering" LZ have put out over te last 25 years.

It's hard to improve on something that's almost perfect to begin with but they did with this CD! The double CD edition that I purchased sounds amazing. The second CD includes 8 demo songs from the vault. This release also comes with a nice booklet filled with great pictures of the band during the late 60's. If you are thinking about purchasing this one, I highly recommend it!

I always loved this Zeppelin album growing up, but hadn't listened to it for many years. I think I got stuck on their later albums, which are different but equally great. It was a great experience to hear this again with such improved sound quality, and the extras on disc two are excellent and fun to hear, too! Great trip down memory lane.

It is nice to have a new release, but the live stuff should have been better as the is a whole lot out there that fan would love to hear.. The studio should have been better, such as original writes before final version. Half a this album has been released several different ways... We need more unreleast music...

I like the remastering job done this time. They got it right. It's a toss-up for me about the value of disc 2, even including the unreleased La La, but the cost is not that great from the single disc, so it was worth it for me to get it, especially since I got the deluxe versions of the other 2 albums.

Again, the remastering adds some clarity and crispness to prior releases that audiophiles will appreciate. The bonus disc is demo material that is interesting, but for some reason not as compelling as the music on the bonus disc for Zep III.

He did a great job remastering the 1st 5 albums. Packaging is fantastic & the bonus discs are good - I'm guessing there wasn't much left in the vaults as far as left over tracks so that's why there are a plethora of alternate mixes.

If you don't already have Led Zep II, then get this, but otherwise I'm not impressed. I'm not an audiophile and can't hear the difference between this and other remastered versions. If you want the disk of extras, then it's worth it.

Jimmy really did a wonderful job remastering the catalog, and the packaging and bonus disc of unreleased material really add to the Zep collectors catalog. Well worth it!
