Great device for some. Horrible dpad for all.

There's a lot of good to say about the Legion Go, but I couldn't look past a few issues that are hopefully fixed in the next model. 1) The dpad. 90% of what I play are fighting games. I have no issues whatsoever playing them on the Ally, but the dpad on the Go is so firm, flush, and flat that it makes diagonals very difficult to use. It's totally fine for menu navigation etc, but using it as a main control method was not even considered when this thing was designed. 2) Even after watching countless videos the Go's weight, size, and chunkiness was more than I expected. It feels premium for sure and the screen is really nice, but I found the weight and size shortened my gaming sessions because it became annoying and uncomfortable to hold. The kickstand is wonderful and helps with this issue, but if I need to sit it on the table to play it then I may as well use my laptop. 3) The coil whine was unbearable. I can deal with how hot the Go got and how loud the fans were compared to the Ally, but the coil whine was the breaking point. Sure, I can cover it up with headphones, but everyone in the room has to hear the screeching and whoooshing of the coil whine and fans. My wife's review is "what the $%@& is that noise??" 4) Joycon/controller wobble. I hate it on the Switch and I hate it here. I get why it's there, but for someone like me who can't stand it, it's a big issue. This is more of a personal preference knock than an actual device issue like the dpad. The Go is great, it really is, but had I been able to mess with the dpad and hold the device in person prior to buying it, I never would have made the purchase. I feel like this was primarily designed with "PC gamers" in mind (heavy laptop users, touchpad, large screen, 'fps mouse mode', kickstand etc) whereas the Ally was designed for "handheld gamers" in mind (smaller, lighter, better dpad). But when the performance is practically identical (Ally Z1 Extreme), then you just have to decide whether or not you want the specific features, and problems, of the Legion Go or if you want a lighter, smaller, more "handheld-y" device with the Ally.

Battery life is pretty good and the device charges quickly. I mostly play games in 800p and get decent performance. Like many others, had to manually download the latest drivers. To me, the device is comfortable in hand, and I do enjoy the bigger screen.

The 8-in screen is perfect for handheld mode play for me with my visual impairment. the ergonomics are top-notch better than the previous handheld I had. Built-in microSD card expansion is amazing although could be placed at the bottom of the handheld instead of nearby the fans. The ability to take the controllers off the handheld and gyro aiming makes Old School shooters on console play so much better in a lot of situations in combat. Well the FPS mode is great for being able to use the right controller as a mouse but also is great in standard handheld mode when playing classic dos platformers like Commander Keen, jazz jackrabbit and, the first two Duke nukems.

I love the screensize and the ergonomics of this handheld. There were some software issues, but updates having been rolling out over the last few weeks, and it seems to only be getting better and better. I’ve gotten back to playing single players games again because of this handheld; right now it’s Octopath Traveler 1. I hope lenovo keeps up the good work and continues to improve on this. The only thing I could say I wish was that the screen was OLED; if they make a version 2 refresh, that should be top of the list. It also would be nice if there was a 24GB or 32GB RAM model. 16GB is very limiting, especially when it’s shared between the CPU and GPU.

There is a lot to love about this handheld, picture quality is outstanding. Build quality is great. It plays pretty much every AAA game, though the most demanding will require lowering graphical settings. The one thing that I really am not happy with is the button placement. The buttons on the side of the right controller are just in the way. You can't help but hit them with your palm all the time. Now they don't do anything in handheld mode, but it's still uncomfortable and annoying hitting the two side buttons all the time. Annoying enough that I will be returning my unit and sticking with Rog Ally and Steam Deck. Also, it's heavy, a little to heavy for me. But popping out the kickstand and using detached controllers does alleviate that and is very fun to play that way, though unless your using fps mode, your still hitting those darn side buttons.

I was genuinely surprised with how well this actually works and performs especially when traveling. One recommendation is get a dock for it because I think it functions better as a mobile workstation that has the ability to play AAA games out of the box, for much less than the typical price tag of a higher end laptop. I've had mine for over a year now and have had absolutely no issues, it still works well with the newer games and has had no power issues, temperature issues, or OLED burn. The one downside I'll give it as it is a bit heavy for longer sessions.

The device runs well. Screen looks amazing. Can run gamepass, steam and epic games since you are running windows. My one issue is the thermals on the device. Some games require you to set the fans to max or the device randomly shuts off

Lenovo really grew in my eyes way more than any other PC companies A lot of people got legion go too early on launch and gave it kinda bad review. Like other handhelds also had horrible launch like ally and deck. Today That's not the case as we speak the device updated and fixed a lot with updates almost every week since launch and now it's the best handheld gaming PC. Best screen best performance of all other handheld. Iv tested it with a lot of games emulators everything runs on medium - high graphics smooth. I'm glad I got this instead of steam. I wanted windows not Linux this might be a PRO instead of CON for some. If you know how to deal with windows then this is the best device in the market if you don't know anything about windows then other handheld might be better for you

I bought this item mainly because the life cycle of the switch is coming to an end and thought why not?? After all the driver updates and window updates i finally turned it on and played cyberpunk on the go and being that i live on the ocean for three weeks at a time the legion go has been a life saver. With most triple A games ive been getting roughly between 55-70 FPS ON AVG. The battery life is kinda rough maybe you can get 2 hours out of it with some games. But in general i am very satisfied with the purchase. I would highly recommend it for anyone interested in getting a hand held you will not be dissappinted.

      Hi Jenniferl-

Thank you for choosing Lenovo and sharing your experience with us. We are happy to hear that you are enjoying the Legion Go. We aim to offer great user experience, and we would like to recommend a few actions to improve your battery life.

Firstly, we recommend running and installing all available drivers updates through Legion Space, these updates are crucial to the device’s health and power consumption leading to improved battery life. To check for updates within Legion Space begin by launching the application, then click "Disks and Drivers" located at the bottom of the display, then select "Check for Updates".

The Legion Go can also adjust the active performance profile and fan speed of the device based on your needs. To start press the hexagonal options key located on the right controller, then select the performance tab represented by the gauge symbol, from here you can adjust the performance mode. We suggest using Quiet mode which will enhance battery life. You can also toggle this at any time by holding down the hexagonal Steam button and tapping the Y button.

Please reach out to us through the Q & A section of this product webpage if you have any questions or need any assistance.

      Best wishes,

Was thinking of getting a gaming laptop, but decided to put my money into the Lenovo Legion Go instead! This powerful portable device with a HUGE 8.8" screen is the perfect way to play games when I'm traveling, or just wanna wind down in bed with some games. I love that it runs on Windows as well, so if I did need to go onto Youtube, or check my emails, I'm able to as well just through the Legion Go. The kickstand and detachable joysticks are an amazing way to play games as well. Only issue is, the battery life isn't super long. I can maybe get 2-3 hours max out of it, but I'd imagine you'd have an outlet to recharge wherever you were gaming on the go, so it's not a huge issue to me. Love this device! Would highly recommend it to people thinking of a gaming laptop alternative.

I’m happy with my Legion Go. Its my first x86 handheld. I like the 8.8 inch screen. Lenovo still needs to do more software updates for it, the device still freshly new. This is expected and Lenovo did mention their plans for doing upcoming updates. I also saw some videos on youtube that Chimera(Steam linux) can be loaded to it, so it should be interesting having that in dual boot later once that becomes more stable. To me it seems like the fan is quiet. I keep my device on balanced power mode and i can game for 2 hours and half then I’ll be reaching for the charger. I’m hoping future software updates help improve battery life more.
