    LEGION GO IS GREAT! But....

I love the Legion Go. I've had this bad boy for a month as of writing this review and it's one of the best gaming handhelds out there. BUT. The problem I have with it is the fact that Lenovo themselves are SLOW with releasing updates for the thing. If you are tech savvy and are able to install the latest AMD software updates yourself then go for it! If not, and your just an everyday gamer, don't! I'll update this review once (hopefully) Lenovo updates the graphics, till then steer clear!

Ive had this a bit over a month now and i can safely say this was worth it cheaper than a gaming pc and for those who like to take their steam/xbox games with them or play in bed like me this is perfect it runs good doesnt get hot at least not unreasonably hot, i personally like the size i hate staring tiny screens battery life is prolly what id expect for a hand held prolly about 90 mintunes maybe 2 hours on lighter games its like a switch and a gaming pc mashed into one which isnt a complaint charges pretty fast too i love being able to play on my tv if i want too all you need is a type c to hdmi works great tho the sound isnt as loud as i though itd be maybe headphones would be good to use with it. It does have pretty loud fans that may bother some people ? But over all its a good build quality the hindge isnt cheap at all i think for most people this is a good choice for a hand held

So I purchased this device with high hopes of using it right out of the box. Well that didn’t happen. The device itself hefty but fits in the hads very well. The kickstand is anazing and holds the device at multiple angles. However the drivers are not stable and aoftware does not run correctly on it. My biggest issue is when the screen goes to sleep you can not wake tge device back up, you have to turn the device off and back on to get going again and I know all I have to do is turn the standby or screen off time to never but its a windows comluter so these basic features should work properly. The other issue is with the on screen keyboard. When you first click on a text field the on screen keyboard pops up and your good to go but if you click directly to another text field tye on screen keyboard closes and will not re-open unless you click off the text firld and then back on to it. This is a no go for me. Last for this review but certainly not all the problems I experienced is the fact the GPU has no supporting software and even AMD cant determin the devices video drivers. It has AMD hardware. Come on man this device should have never been released in its current form. I will be returning my device tomorrow for a refund. I may try again in the future but for now your best to stick woth the Asus Ally as it seems to be the proven and fully correctly functioning Handled PC Gaming Platform.

    Still impressed after a year!

I have had the Legion Go for almost a year and I think it’s good time to share my experience. Aesthetically, the Legion Go looks great. The black finish looks sleek, and the controllers make it look very large. That’s because of the beautiful 8.8" (2560x1600) screen, which basically qualifies as a tablet on its own. This “tablet” has a convenient stand which has not become wobbly at all. The controllers’ edges did feel a bit uncomfortable at the beginning, especially on the lower palms, and holding it for long periods was limiting due to its massive 1.85 lbs. weight. I usually use it on the couch where I can rest my elbows, on the table when resting my entire arms, or in bed with the controllers detached. The physical gaming experience has been better than expected. As a handheld, I am impressed by the haptic feedback of the controllers. The buttons feel high-quality. The thumb sticks are super responsive and have not given me any drifting. The D-pad has good inputs with nearly no false diagonals. The trigger and shoulder buttons have nice travel and feel. I hardly use the back buttons, but they are there if I ever need them. As far as connectivity, I am happy that there are 2 USB-C ports that are compatible with data, monitors, and charging. When I want a bigger viewing experience, I like to plug the Legion Go into my 32in 1080p TV using a USB-C-to-HDMI cable or with the hub/stand I bought for it. The device features Bluetooth for devices that require it, such as buds, and I am relieved that there is a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is best for spatial audio content. As a PC, this device has been quite capable. With a full version of Windows 11, I can practically do everything I would do with my laptop. From productivity and browsing, to consuming content such as video. While there is an on-screen keyboard, I use a Bluetooth foldable keyboard. While there is a trackpad on the right controller, the right controller can become a physical mouse with the included base, so no mouse is needed. The Legion Go can be hooked to a monitor, just like a PC. But most importantly, how is the gaming experience and performance? Well, in that department I am happy to report that I am still impressed. Now there are two different experiences depending on the power delivery and settings (TDP). Unplugged, the resolution, frames (fps), and battery life suffer. I found that the sweet spot for AAA games at medium settings is at 800p to 1080p max. This would bring games closer to 60 fps., and still look great. When plugged into power, I can raise the TDP and run games 1080p-1440p, or at max settings at lower resolutions. Either way, the games look great, especially since the screen has excellent brightness and clarity. I am also glad that the device comes with 1TB of storage and allows for expansion via microSD cards. I tend to install large AAA games on the internal storage for faster loading, and less demanding games on the SD card. Not everything is perfect, though. The Legion Go, although being described as a portable device, is so heavy that carrying it around can be challenging. It is even worse in the included case. It has been confined to in-house use mainly. Another issue that affects portability is battery life. Typically, AAA games at full TDP settings, can drain the battery in an hour or two. This can be mitigated by lowering all settings, but the experience may suffer due to low graphics and fps. While you can carry around a portable battery, it would have to be a powerful one. While I have taken it on trips, I would not take it on my daily commute. This is a nitpick, but I find it worth noting, is that the speakers on the unit are very bad, making headphones a must. As you can tell, I am very pleased with the overall experience so far. Although portability does matter, even after a year, I continued to be impressed.

Second day I had the device I got a black screen with green stripes (see picture). I powered it off and on and it went away. Two days later the color display started losing color the whole display and everything faded. While gaming I would also see quick white flashes. I factory reset the Lenovo to get it ready to return it. That fixed the display color. There’s no way keeping this one. I’m going to give Lenovo Go another go! Hopefully this one works.

The Lenovo Legion Go offers a fantastic and truly enjoyable gaming experience, primarily driven by its massive, vibrant 8.8-inch screen and powerful AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor. Its excellent portability is boosted by the highly flexible design, which includes a sturdy built-in kickstand and detachable controllers, allowing for comfortable gaming in almost any setting. While the size might be bulky compared to competitors, the flexibility it offers is unmatched. As for the downside, the battery life is just okay. You'll get roughly 1-2 hours playing demanding AAA titles, but you can stretch that further with lighter games and lower power settings. Given the device’s power and screen size, keeping a charger or power bank nearby is essential. Despite the battery limitations, the combination of performance, flexibility, and a stunning display makes the Legion Go an easy device to recommend for anyone wanting a feature-rich, large-screen Windows handheld.

This is a unique device that I has the combination of an Asus ROG Ally combined with a Nintendo Switch with a bigger screen. The screen, hands down, is amazing! The beauty and size makes this a wonderful screen to use whether for gaming, surfing, watching videos, or doing homework. SD Card is great, detachable controllers are easy to detach and re-attach. Includes a case with a handle! The cons to this device are: for medium and small hands, it is way too big and needs a controller grip to reduce the weight. Hands went numb after about 30-45 minutes of use. The fan is super loud, comparable to my RTX 3080 XG Mobile and that is pretty loud. Volume is upwards firing, next to the air vent, being drowned out by the fan. The FPS mode may work for some, but it did not work for me and when playing it attached, constantly pressing buttons. I didn't have any refresh rate issues when playing this device, but having VRR would be nice. For the price and competition, it is good for those who don't mind the larger size and find the weight acceptable.

[Employee of bestbuy] There's a couple ways to approach reviewing the Legion Go. Out of the box with Windows, and after installing the Linux distro, "bazzite OS", a Fedora based distro designed to mimic SteamOS while retaining all the hardware goodness of the Legion Go. With Windows, it's an OK experience. Desktop Windows feels clunky, and while the software Lenovo has developed to bridge the usability gap, its still so so. Once you have all the games and content installed and setup in the Legion launcher, you're (mostly) golden, however getting there can be frustrating. Windows gaming works really well, and as long as you understand that this is effectively an entire laptop solved into a tiny box, the experience is great, aside form Windows being basically unusable on such a device. Moving over to bazzite OS. Having a Steam Deck, I found Steam OS to work incredibly well on handheld, even in the off hand need to dive into the gnome based desktop to set up emulation. bazzite very much mimics all of the joy that steamOS gives the Steam Deck, but with all the power of the Legion Go. It even support removing the controllers and the lighting effects. I find this "mod" to be a MASSIVE improvement in the usability and enjoyment of the Legion Go. Software aside, it's hardware time. the Z1 Extreme and 16 gigs of RAM are a solid combo, and handle most games at playable framerates with low the medium settings and playing at 1280x800 or 1920x1200, the full 1440p resolution isn't super practical for this chip, but the screen looks BEAUTIFUL regardless. The battery lasts me about 1 and a half to 2 hours most of the time, however if you push it, you may find yourself in the sub one hour range depending on title. The screen, while pretty, really pulls a lot of power, especially when the Z1 Extreme is pushing 30w for gameplay. Build quality is mostly great, The main housing metal rear panel, and the controls feel good, if maybe a bit angular. The detachable controllers is interesting, and very switch esk, but they work really well and the option to use the right controller as a mouse is also really clever. I'm very impressed with Lenovo's first entry into the handleheld gaming space, and I personally think it offers a lot, especially when optimized with an operating system more tailored to handheld gaming.

I was quite hesitant to make the purchase on this handheld gaming pc, more so with all the careful research through YouTube videos and forum posts before deciding which one I wanted. I'm glad I went with this one. Albeit the battery was a concern, but it makes up for it with performance. i have a gaming laptop as well but I find myself using this more often just for how convenient it is to play the games I want to play without suffering too much on the fps side of things. Also since its windows based I can have the other services like epic games along with steam. It's mouse feature with the detachable controller was a little confusing at first, but it became a lot easier to use and was surprisingly innovative for what it was. I like this little thing, it does what it needs to and does a little more. I recommend this to anyone looking to do some gaming on the go.

*for certain individuals This device has been a great experience. The display is excellent; 8.8 inches is significantly nicer to look at the the 7 of the steam deck or Ally. It's crisp, vibrant and smooth. With the arrival of the Deck OLED I thought I would be let down with the display by comparison, the Go's display is fantastic. In the context of handhelds, performance is excellent. It does chew through battery in AAA games. Most of my gaming is on the couch while plugged in (so I'm not holed away from my family on my gaming computer) so I generally don't mind the battery life. When I do play it unplugged, I keep it to indie titles and JRPGs mostly. FPS mode is not a gimmick, but there is a learning curve and some key binding is a must to get comfortable with it. Once you get it down it works really well. Detachable controllers are so useful when my infant son is sleeping on my chest. I can just set the tablet on my lap and hold my arms however I need to support my son. Some cons: Lenovo has a good deal of work to do with Legion Space. A lot of features it should have (button remapping and stick dead zone adjustments for example) are not present. The dead zones are a huge fault and need to be addressed. Shooters currently are quite difficult. Button remapping needs to be implemented also - there are a bunch of dead buttons that are only used in fps mode that could be quite useful if they could be customized outside of FPS mode. The device is quite large, if you have small hands it may not be too easy to use. The bios: currently, 3, 4, and 8 GB of vram are selectable. The sweet spot with devices that have 16 GB ram is 6 GB for vram, with the rest allocated for the CPU (as demonstrated with the Ally). Lenovo has released a beta bios with this option available for those who want to download it (the official bios update is coming soon). All that said, Ben Myers from The Legion Go team has been very involved with receiving community feedback and has indicated that all of these features are in development and the dead zones are the priority. Lenovo's transparency has me confident that with some software updates, this will be the windows handheld to beat. Pros: hardware, display, performance, fps mode, detachable controllers. Cons: battery life (depending on usage) software, dead zones, no button mapping, bios Save for the battery life, all of these cons are likely to be resolved soon with software updates and when that happens, this will be an excellent portable gaming PC.

The Lenovo Legion Go is a beast of a handheld gaming device. The 144Hz display is absolutely stunning, and paired with the Ryzen Z1 Extreme and 16GB of RAM, it delivers smooth performance even with demanding titles. The 1TB SSD is a huge bonus—it gives me plenty of room for my game library without constantly juggling storage space. It’s also surprisingly comfortable to hold, and the detachable controllers are a nice touch that add flexibility to gameplay. Setup was quick, and Windows integration gives it serious versatility beyond just gaming—perfect for emulators, streaming, or light productivity tasks. Battery life could be better, especially with high-performance settings, but that’s expected with this kind of hardware. Overall, it’s an incredibly capable handheld that easily competes with or outshines others in its class.

I ultimately did end up returning my Legion Go because it got too noisy to be using in bed next to my wife while watching TV or when she was trying to sleep. For that, the Steam Deck OLED is still better and much quieter, with similar performance in most games I play. I really like the screen and size of the Legion Go and definitely recommend it over the ROG Ally. I have had a ROG Ally and tried the Ally X, the additional 1.8" of screen makes a HUGE difference, and the colors are far crisper, with a higher refresh rate and resolution. I cannot say enough good things about the screen. I was used to Armory Crate and the shortcuts the Ally had for Windows (which I actually find very well mapped and easy to learn), but after getting more used to the trackpad and Legion software, it was not bad. Driver installation is annoying because Lenovo does NOT package the video driver well (nor update them / support as well as ASUS) but there's tons of threads about sideloading the AMD Adrenalin software. Once I did that I got much better framerates and access to other features, otherwise things like RSR did not seem to work from the Lenovo menus. The detachable controllers are great and not gimicky at all! I found myself using that feature more than I thought even just laying in bed by kickstanding the tablet on my fat tum tum. I did not use the mouse style controller setup, but did find some of those extra buttons useful to map to other functions for Windows in general. GOOD: - Screen and resolution - Kickstand - Controls and detachable controller are good - Trackpad works well MEDIOCRE: - Thumbsticks (feel a bit loose) - Legion software is slow to respond sometimes - Not a deal breaker, but annoying where the buttons are placed to access menus and stuff in games; very counterintuitive to other handhelds and controllers with those stupid bottom left buttons BAD: - Loud/kinda hot compared to other handhelds - Not great ergonomics as a handheld (found that the controllers almost dug into my hand no matter how I held it, with medium to large sized hands). If you plan to detach controllers more often should be fine. - 16GB of RAM is not a ton with the extra VRAM needed to drive the screen/display resolution I really wanted to like the Legion Go, but am going to wait for the MSI Claw 8 AI+ most likely due to quieter operation and better ergonomics (although software seems to blow on that). I would still recommend it, just try to get your hands on one and feel it first and hear the fans, etc. On sale < $600 it is a good buy overall. If your wife is less susceptible to fan noise than mine, you will probably enjoy it and keep it :)

Coming here from a console, this is a great machine for gaming on the go, but its fans are REALLY loud, it needs a lot of setup to get going, and the battery can be bad depending on the game. The screen, though, is amazing and it can run some AAA games. For me, it's great when I'm traveling and want to game in the hotel or something. The controllers are not the most comfortable, but having the option to detach them makes up for that.

I ordered an open box excellent condition and it was basically brand new. Still had the plastic protective piece on the track pad. I've really been wanting a Windows gaming handheld but wanted something that also had a track pad. It was down to this or the Legion Go S and honestly I'm glad I went with this one. I like that I can detach the controllers and just use it as a tablet. Even though its big and bulky (do not purchase for a child, too big) I love the screen and the versatility. Battery life is not great but 90% of the time I'm on my couch or laying somewhere around the house near a charger so I don't mind. The mouse mode is neat but I'll never use it. I have connected a regular mouse and used the left controller for movement and it actually works pretty good for most fps games, I just can't get past the feel of an upright controller as a mouse. I can play 90% of my games fine with reasonable frame rates. There are one or 2 where I feel like the game just isn't optimized very well. It definitely has more buttons on the controller than I'll ever use and one of them I'm constantly pushing on accident so I purposely never bind it to anything. However, it actually has a scroll wheel on it which none of the other handhelds have. I couldn't justify spending $300 or more on top of the price of this for a Go S or an Ally X when they have the exact same processor in them. I do wish it had just a tiny bit more performance in it but this is the first gen of a device like this. I'm happy with purchase so far, might consider getting a Go 2 next year.

I’ve been using the Lenovo Legion Go for a while now and honestly, I couldn’t be happier with it. The build quality feels premium and solid in the hands, and the display is just gorgeous—sharp, bright, and silky smooth with that high refresh rate. Games look incredible on it, and it really makes a difference compared to other handhelds I’ve tried. Performance has blown me away. It handles AAA games so much better than I expected from a portable device, and I love that I can tweak the settings easily to balance battery life and performance. The detachable controllers are a brilliant touch—they feel comfortable and responsive, and being able to switch into FPS mode with the right controller is such a fun bonus. Battery life is decent for the power it’s packing, and I appreciate the quick charge when I need to top it up between sessions. The kickstand is sturdy, the software is improving steadily, and overall it just feels like Lenovo put a lot of thought into making this versatile and gamer-friendly. If you’re someone who loves handheld gaming but also wants something powerful enough to double as a mini-PC, the Legion Go is absolutely worth it. It’s been a joy to use, and it honestly makes gaming on the go exciting again.

I finally pulled the trigger on this guy and I'm happy with it! I will start with the negative. The battery sucks. Unplugged on mid settings I may get 1.5 hours. But I keep mine plugged in and it works great. I personally haven't found a reason to detach the controllers except when I got it and I was unable to figure out how to use the vertical mouse feature. Is it user error? Definitely. But it is not straight forward. I don't have a major issue with the device running windows considering I only use it for games but if you wanted to use it as a computer too I can only imagine using it while docked. Now the good! Screen is huge and amazing. The whole device is heavy but I'm a strong growing boy so I can handle the weight. Ive only dropped it on my face like twice. It runs any game I've thrown at it with no issue so far and I've only had to lower settings to mid a few times when using battery. The triggers and buttons are responsive and the build quality is high end. I'm very happy with my purchase.
