Good but compatibility issues with SteamOS

The Legion Go S with SteamOS is a great handheld but I ultimately returned it because of SteamOS and compatibility with anti-cheat software. If you want to play games with anti-cheat you will need a windows handheld. Games without anti-cheat work well and honestly SteamOS is a better experience, it just didn't fit my needs. I ended up getting the MSI Claw 8 AI+ instead, performance wise the MSI is better but ergonomics the Legion was much better. If you want performance and compatibility go with the MSI Claw but if you want a more "comfortable" gaming experience and do not intend to play games with anti-cheat I would recommend the Legion Go S instead.

For it being a handheld it runs everything pretty good and is really handy for when you travel and still wanna game, I’ve been really stuck on playing arc raiders and this makes it easy for me to catch up on everything even when I’m not home, there are things like battery life and the sound of the fan but it’s a handheld so it’s nothing that I wouldn’t expect.

      Hi EdgarZ-

Thank you for choosing Lenovo and sharing your experience with us. We are happy to hear that you are enjoying the performance and portability of the Legion Go S. We aim to offer great user experience, and we would like to suggest a few actions to improve your experience.

Firstly, we recommend running and installing all available drivers updates through Legion Space, these updates are crucial to the device’s health and power allocation leading to improved battery life. To check for updates within Legion Space begin by launching the application, then click "Disks and Drivers" located at the bottom of the display, then select "Check for Updates".

The Legion Go can also adjust the active performance profile and fan speed of the device based on your needs. To start press the hexagonal options key located on the right controller, then select the performance tab represented by the gauge symbol, from here you can adjust the performance mode based on your needs. We recommend using Quiet Mode to extend battery life and reduce fan noise. You can also toggle this mode at any time by holding down the hexagonal Steam button and tapping the Y button.

Please reach out to us through the Q & A section of this product webpage if you have any questions or need any assistance.

Good buttons and display. I like the color. The color looks like a dark nebula purple color to me. The ergonomics are nice in my opinion. The switch 2 joycoms felt too small to me and I am glad I made the switch to lenovo. Imcan run most of my games at balanced tdp of about 16w. I look foward to keeping my device for a lomg time. Nice Black Friday deal. Thank you Best Buy.

This thing is the Steamdeck 1.5. Same or better battery bc you can run games with better FPS, but at lower tdp/profiles. Great ergonomics, great 8” screen for a non oled. Yes its a little heavy, so is the steamdeck. Yes the battery could be a little better, but so could the steamdeck. I don’t recommend paying full retail as I got mine for $650, but 0 regrets.

This is my favorite console I’ve ever had. It runs way better than I expected, nice in the hands, the only flaw in an otherwise perfect product is the teeny tiny touch pad that’s inconveniently placed, but it’s an easy fix to turn it off!

Solid Refresh/Upgrade from the Steam Deck

I was highly skeptical about this machine since the Steam Deck has already done an amazing job of hosting SteamOs. However, the Legion Go S blew all of my expectations out of the water. Z1E Chip + 8" screen + comfortable ergonomics is a nice refresh and processing boost/screen from the sd. This device is a home run only IF you know what you are getting into. Drawbacks come down to a lack of Windows OS, for which there is a Windows version of this device and you'll have to pick the red pill or blue pill.

This thing is a strict upgrade from the steam deck. SteamOS operates flawlessly, it's capable of handling every game I've thrown at it with 60 fps, I was able to put discord on it, and it has gyro controls like the switch if you have the patience to sit down and map the inputs (SteamOS makes this easy,) and it has the biggest cooling fan I've ever seen on a handheld. Heavily recommend. It's basically an entire desktop computer but put in handheld form. My next goal is to put an office space program to handle word docs so I can do everything all in one space.

I work in front of a PC and recently ive found myself playing less. I got this handheld to try out and ended up keeping it. Works well and is comfortable enough to hold. Battery life is a little short. If I wasnt able to get it at the black friday price i would have gotten a SD oled tho.

I was debating on getting this or the one with detachable controllers and chose this one. Didn’t really have the need for the detachable controllers and I like the way this one felt in my hands better. It was a little confusing first starting off but one started it’s amazing. Graphics are smooth and steam is easily accessible. If trying to decide between the two, I would say this is like the getting the lite version of the switch. Highly recommended.

This has been great for all of my games so far. SteamOS is a must have for these handhelds. Only critique is the battery life can be a bit short if playing more demanding games but that is just part of all handheld devices. It charges super fast as well.

Best Handhled on the Market (right now)

The best PC handheld on the market right now. The Legion Go S is not as powerful as it's older brother, the GO 2, nor is it as compact or ergonomic as the Xbox ROG Ally X. In fact, I would say that is not the "best handheld" in any of the major categories such as performance, battery life, or screen type. Still, the combination of things it does well elevate this handheld to the top spot among it's competitors. SteamOS is wonderful and easy to navigate. The performance is good enough to play most games at acceptable settings and resolutions. It is comfortable and the buttons are responsive.

This was definitely a luxury purchase for me, especially as I decided to go all-in and opt for the 32Gb, Z1 upgrade. Is it worth the price? I don't know. Do I regret buying it? Absolutely not. I love it. As far as power goes, I'm not big on playing AAA games the moment they come out, preferring to wait for price drops and fixes; nor to I freak out about frame-rate and such. The more technologically taxing games in my collection would be Cyberpunk 2077, Final Fantasy 14, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Silent Hill 2 Remake, all the Resident Evil remakes, all of which play like a dream on this model. SteamOS has made accessing the vast majority of my collection a complete breeze. I have had no problems with connectivity issues playing online. One important detail to consider is that my model was SteamOs on Linux, not Windows. For me, this was a big advantage as I find Windows makes the system slower, more expensive, more dependent on unwanted updates and generally less smooth. If you stick to SteamOS this isn't going to make an ounce of difference—you probably won't even realize. But if you want to add games from GoG or Epic or other launchers you'll have to do a little work with Linux. Ultimately, I found it a very slight learning curve and got all my games and some emulation running no problem. I'd just advise temporarily hooking up a mouse/keyboard to navigate the the desktop with. With a dock or USBC to HDMI cable and a controller you could effortlessly turn this into a console to play on a big TV. Overall, this is not going to match a dedicated desktop gaming PC for tech or value. It is made to satisfy a distinct need (portability) and if that need isn't important to you, spend your money on a desktop. Nonetheless it is still a powerhouse in portable form and if this ended up being my only system, I'd still feel I was getting a complete gaming experience.

This console is the much needed boost for the Steam Deck. I really like the performance and the size of the screen, looks gorgeous. Controls are also nice, high quality. The plastic of the case and the finish feel cheap. But the console is well built, is just how it feels in the hands. The only two downsides? 1. The speakers... The literally just suck. Not sure if there will be some sort of algorithm to make them better or is just the quality of them. Compared to Ally X or MSI Claw 8, this has nothing to do in front of them. 2. It feels kind of late in the game...What I mean is that the Z2 Extreme Xbox Ally and for sure more models as well are about to launch late this year. Reason why this will fill the gap just for a few months, then, off to buy the newest toy.

Handles ghost of Tsushima at mostly high and max settings at 65-75fps average. The screen is bright and looks really good in all games. Highly recommend this handheld.
