Amazing for the right price.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excellent performance for the form factor and price if it's on sale (I bought it on sale for $650). No windows bloat. Steam OS is easy to use. Battery life is very short for very demanding games such as Cyberpunk 2077 (1-2 hours at max power usage). Much longer battery at idle and for simple games. LCD screen looks good. Ergonomics are good. Not a lot of 3rd party accessories when compared to the Steam Deck. If you value raw performance the most, want to play modern demanding games on it, and battery life is mostly an after thought, then buy this if the price is right for you. If you value battery life the most and prefer playing simpler games, buy the OLED Steam Deck.

Legion Go S is the way to go.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I gotta say, I love my legion go S. I had the unfortunate event of purchasing an open box legion go 2 with difficulties of parts being swapped out so I returned it and picked up the Legion go S instead due to the increase in price for the legion go 2. I must say though I have no complaints so far with the legion go S. Personally I prefer the Steam OS over the Window OS so the LGS works out for me. The 32gb with the 1 TB makes it a lot easier with smooth gameplay and tons of storage. The screen looks great, even though it doesn’t compare to the OLED screen on the LG2, about the only thing I miss from the LG2. Only negative thing I would say is the battery life is pretty short, obviously depends on the gameplay and what not, you can adjust the battery consumption but personally I don’t feel that big of a save. I tend to play on the go and I purchased Lenovos magnetic battery pack along with it which helps gameplay for another hour or so. The way it gets in my hands feels comfortable, I did buy a case for it from Dbrand which makes it feel better for me, I have big hands so it feels comfortable. Overall I enjoy the legion go S and have no regrets purchasing it. Highly recommend it.

Perfect machine for the average gamer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In love with this machine, SteamOS is so quick with launching games. Battery isnt the best but not a problem if you game near a plug. Fan does get pretty loud but again a non-issue if you use headphones most of the time. Screen is probably the best LCD out there. Not OLED level but the 7" makes up for it. Ergonomics are amazing too.

Love it
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excellent highlighting its great screen (especially with SteamOS), powerful performance for its price (Z2GO version), and solid ergonomics, but often criticizing its poor battery life, sometimes bulky feel/size, and Windows software quirks, with many users recommending installing SteamOS for a better console-like experience and better performance management.

The prime Z1E handheld with some small negatives
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.PC handhelds with Z1E have evolved a lot over the past years and i believe the Lenovo Go S Z1E is the pinaccle of all the engineering. The extra RAM helps in aome modern games where lots of textured need to be loaded. The CPU and GPU performance is in fact slightly better than both ROG and other Legion handhelds with the same APU. I also am biased towards SteamOS as it’s very streamlined and light - perfect for a handheld. The screen is a good size and resolution (Ally too small and Go is too big). Cons? Battery - thats a big one for gamers. It runs about 2 hours on AAA games where you’re trying to hit 60 FPS, but thats it. You can lower the settings and make it last longer of course. And with indie titles you get great performance. If you’ve heard about the loud fans - yes all the rumors are true. They can get pretty loud when you’re working this at max pwrformance but so does every other handheld. On the Balanced profile it’s usually perfect. It’s also not a whiny high pitch sound, which is good. Also, it’s easy to install non steam games using the heroic launcher. The only downside is probably that the competitive games with anti-cheat just dont work well with linux, but you can always dual boot Windows. The handheld community has come so far that you can find tons of guides to mod and improve your devices in eveey way imaginable. Overall, would recommend 100%.

Amazing!
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Coming from an OG Steam Deck, this thing is a an absolute dream. Everything feels like an improvement. It has a better processor plus double the RAM. The buttons feel sturdy and are satisfying to press (although the clicks can be a bit loud). The joysticks feel smooth and the customizable RGB lights are super cool. Steam OS works just as well as it did on the Steam Deck. The overall design and color is great. It’s really comfortable to hold for long periods of time. I did think I would miss the track pad but I really haven’t felt its absence. Now, there is one downside, especially for those looking for something portable to bring on roadtrips and stuff - the battery. If you play anything demanding, you have to be okay with having it plugged in all the time. With this in mind, I feel like it’s perfect for those wanting the flexibility to play games around the house instead of being glued to your pc.

Perfect Handheld For Anyone
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This handheld is phenomenal all round, this is my very first Pc handheld along with PC gaming. It’s simple to setup and use, along with understanding the layout and how the system works. The SteamOS is very easy on the eyes and brain, it makes pc gaming easy to understand and access in the palms of your hands. The performance on the machine varies based on what you want to focus on, either more performance to get higher FPS, or relax the output on FPS and focus on fidelity. I personal find it very simple and accessible to go in and tweak the settings to assist in what you want most. The one thing that leaves more to be desired is the battery life, now this is based on the type of games you play. If you’re the type to get as most as you can in performance and visuals with every game, you may find yourself plugged into an outlet or power bank more often than not. Overall for a first time pc gamer, this has been an amazing purchase and pairs perfectly with my PS5. Being able to create the perfect gaming environment for me has been something that I would love everyone to do!

So much power, so much fun!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Coming from a steam deck (which is my first pc handheld). This is a great upgrade! For one valve working with Lenovo to create a device that works flawlessly with steam OS is probably the greatest collaboration. The windows counter part (same hardware) Runs much sluggish compared to steamOS version. It’s a work horse and is an emulation beast . Now …. The battery life sucks . And that’s to be expected with this type of hardware. So for me it isn’t a negative . It’s no switch 2. Expect to have a power source near you. I play ps2/ps3 games and can get almost 4 hours on it. The screen is beautiful, brightness is wonderful, colors are vivid. The sound… I wish was a little louder . That’s my only complaint about this device . It feels good in the hand, I haven’t had any issues running anything I’ve thrown at it. I can get cyberpunk to run over 60 on medium with 1080p. The controls are super responsive. The joysticks are smooth like butter and the triggers feel like butter . Everything about this device was thought out very well. I bought this during a sale …. For 650. It’s worth it for that price . I’d wait for a sale to grab it .

Legion Go s Steamos
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’m extremely impressed with the Legion Go S (SteamOS, 32GB RAM / 1TB SSD) from Best Buy. This handheld is an absolute powerhouse. SteamOS runs smoothly and feels perfectly optimized for portable gaming, with fast boot times and an intuitive interface that just works. The 32GB of RAM makes a huge difference—games load quickly, multitasking is effortless, and performance stays consistent even with demanding titles. The 1TB SSD is a massive plus, giving plenty of space for a large game library without constantly worrying about storage. Build quality is excellent, the screen is sharp and vibrant, and controls feel comfortable and responsive during long play sessions. Battery life is solid for the performance you’re getting, and the overall experience feels premium. Best Buy delivered it quickly and in perfect condition, making the purchase process smooth and hassle-free. If you’re looking for a high-end handheld gaming console with serious performance and flexibility, this is 100% worth it. Highly recommended!

Hands down best handheld currently available.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Perfect handheld imo. Steam OS runs flawlessly. Hands down better OS than Windows for mobile gaming. I can put this device to sleep, and the hop back on days later without having completely drained the battery. The performance, particularly with Loss-less scaling installed, is phenomenal. I'm playing FF7 remake at 1080P high settings, with lossless scaling, at 60fps locked, on balanced settings (~22-25W TDP), and only occasionally dipping into the 50s. If you have a backlog of indie, emulation, or even AAA games that do not require super tight latency, this is an amazing device. Ergonomics and screen are phenomenal. The 8 inch screen is definitely on the larger side for a mobile gaming device, but the ergonomics make it very tolerable. I have no hand fatigue after hours of playing. Battery life is also decent at around 2-2.5 hrs for AAA games running on balanced settings. If all you play is competitive FPS shooters, then this is not the device for you as you're limited by SteamOS. I can only comment on the Z1E version. Based on reviews and previews of the upcoming Z2E devices, there is likely to be little meaningful improvement in the next generation of mobile gaming devices, and at much higher prices. Until Steam releases a new Steamdeck with a generational leap, this should be the device to get.

Steam Deck on Steroids
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Lenovo Legion Go Extreme is a worth purchase. Its a Steam Deck on roids. You can see the specs on this site. It performs really well. Fast and fluid UI. Very comfortable in the hands. Didn’t feel any cramping in my hands like when I play Nintendo Switch. Everything is controller sized so its all comfy. Games load fast and play so smooth. If you have a smaller library of games from Steam, I would check first to see if they are compatible with Steam OS and the Steam Deck/ Legion Go Extreme. Also the battery is good but you really have to lower your settings to get the most battery time out of it. If you’re like me, I don’t do that, everything is Maxxed out! So I keep it plugged in while I play. The touch screen also is kind of sensitive and sometimes I accidentally touch it when my right thumb touches the screen while using the thumbstick. This Device might look expensive but you have to really think about the incredible value for this price and the fact that games on Steam go on sale often and are dirt cheap for some Triple A titles. Also wear headphones. The fan can be loud so its sometimes difficult to hear the dialog on the speakers. Totally recommend Lenovo Go Extreme!

Great device for on the go play
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently bought the Lenovo Legion Go Z1 Extreme, and my experience with it has been excellent so far. The device performs incredibly well and has handled every game and application I’ve tried without any issues. The Z1 Extreme processor is very powerful, making gameplay smooth and responsive even on more demanding titles. Load times are fast, and multitasking feels effortless. One of the best things about the Legion Go is the large, high-quality display. The screen looks sharp and vibrant, which makes gaming and watching content much more enjoyable. The controls feel comfortable and responsive, and the detachable controllers are a nice feature that adds flexibility and convenience. The overall build quality also feels premium and sturdy. I have not experienced any technical problems, crashes, overheating, or software issues since purchasing it. Everything worked properly straight out of the box, and setup was simple and quick. Battery life has also been solid for a handheld gaming device, especially considering the level of performance it delivers. Overall, the Legion Go Z1 Extreme has exceeded my expectations. It’s a powerful, reliable, and versatile handheld system that I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a portable gaming device with great performance and no problems.

An excellent handheld gaming system
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great system. Good battery life, plenty of RAM and memory for playing popular games. Generally, intuitive controls (though this is somewhat dependent on the game you're playing). It's like having a computer in your hands. Pros: - Decent battery life - Generous screen size - RAM - Memory - Available protective accessories (screen protector, carry case) to increase longevity - Surprisingly lightweight - Steam OS, use your existing game library - Easy to play online (I play a lot in airports/on planes) Cons: - The fan can be somewhat loud on occasion - Difficult/impossible to play games that are mouse/keyboard dependent (check what games are compatible through the Steam OS)

Posted .Hi WheatonS-
Thank you for choosing Lenovo and sharing your experience with us. We are happy to hear that you are enjoying the performance, battery life, and product design of the Legion Go S. We aim to offer great user experience and would like to offer some solutions to improve the fan noise you described.
The Legion Go S can also adjust the active performance profile and fan speed of the device based on your needs. To start press the hexagonal options key located on the right controller, then select the performance tab represented by the rocket ship, from here you can adjust the performance mode. We suggest using Quiet Mode to reduce fan noise and enhance battery life.

Great and comfortable handheld!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great handheld! Having Steam OS makes the handheld experience much better. The Z1E chip is still powerful and great for AAA gaming. The screen is gorgeous. The handheld is super comfortable. The only nitpick I have is the battery size. I wish it was 80wh. Other than that it’s near perfect.

Best Value For A Gaming Handheld (when on sale)
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off, this machine us a beast. Although the Z1e processor (brains of the device) is getting a little older, its still one of the best mobile gaming processors on the market when it comes to sheer power. When you pair that with 32GB of unified RAM, this thing can handle just about anything. Unified RAM means its shared between the computer processing and graphics processing (default is 16GB for the computer processing and 16GB for the graphics processing). The device is also very comfortable to hold. I’d say its the second-most comfortable handheld on the market: slightly less comfortable than the ROG Xbox Ally but significantly more comfortable than the Steamdeck or the Nintendo Switch 2. The screen is awesome as well. I was worried the 8” screen would be too big but it’s honestly perfect. Although it’s not an OLED screen, the vibrant colors and VRR (variable refresh rate) makes for an extremely immersive experience. The piece that makes this device truly incredible is SteamOS, though. It’s so nice to simply turn on the device and start playing. No driver updates and no crashes, just gaming (which is novel in the world of PC gaming). As a dad, not having to put in the time and effort to troubleshoot games on widows is a major plus. There are two potentual downsides to this device depending on how you planned to use it: portability and SteamOS compatibility. First, the unit is large due to the screen size and does not come with a case. This makes throwing it in a backpack a little more difficult or will require an additional purchase. Second, the battery life is relatively poor when playing demanding AAA or AA games. If you’re not connected to a charger, you’ll maybe get 1.5 hours (not even long enough for most short flights). You can fix this by picking up a nice battery bank but again, that’s another expense. Lastly, although I love the ease of SteamOS as a busy dad, not all games can be played on the opersting system. These are primarily limited to competive online games that require strict anti-cheat protocols. Namely, this would include Battlefield 6, Call of Duty, Madden, and GTA V. You can sideload Windows if you really want the device and not being able to play the games would be a major issue, but I would just check to make sure your preferred games are compatible before buying. For me, I primarily game on the couch so the battery life isn’t a dealbreaker and 99% of my gaming consists of single-player games (most of which play great on Steam) but YMMV so make sure you check your use cases. I was able to snag this during the 2025 black friday sale, which was an incredible deal. I doubt the price will ever drop that low again and with AI datacenters consuming most of the RAM production worldwide, devices like these will only get more expensive. If you’re considering picking something like this up, i don’t think you can find better value than the LeGo S but I would buy it sooner rather than later.

Best Handheld Gaming Console 2025
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A brilliant machine. Beautiful big screen, comfortable and very fast - easily play AAA games on the largest colorful 120 Hz screen with HDR and VRR. Great ergonomics, the most comfortable handheld on the market. And add to that a fast Z1 Extreme processor (don’t buy the version with the Z2 Go processor which is considerably slower despite the confusing name!). All in all this thing is within a few percent or a few fps as fast as the 50% more expensive Legion Go 2 or other handhelds with Z2 Extreme. And with SteamOS it’s much much easier to operate than any Windows 11 handheld (that OS is NOT designed for handheld use! It doesn’t have the ability to turn off then on and resume games with no battery drain. Win 11 also runs games slower!). This is the best handheld gaming device on the market. 7” screens are so 2022!

Great Gaming Handheld
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Legion Go S (Steam OS version) is honestly one of the best handhelds I’ve ever used. I’ve owned the Steam Deck, and this version of the Legion Go S legitimately feels like an upgrade in almost every category. Steam OS runs perfectly on it — smooth, fast, and optimized — which takes away the main complaint people had about the Windows model. The 8" 120Hz display is the game changer. Compared to the Steam Deck’s screen, the Legion Go S looks brighter, sharper, and way smoother. The higher refresh rate makes everything feel premium — from navigating menus to playing fast-paced games. Visual quality is easily one of the biggest advantages over the Deck. Performance is another area where it pulls ahead. With the Z1 Extreme chip and Steam OS optimizing resources, games run cleaner and maintain more stable frame rates. You can tell instantly that the handheld is more powerful — load times are faster, the UI is more responsive, and demanding titles handle better overall. Battery life is solid, especially with Steam OS instead of Windows draining resources. And because it’s built around Steam just like the Deck, all your games, cloud saves, and settings carry over with zero effort. The ergonomics are great too — lightweight, comfortable, and easy to hold for long gaming sessions. The controls feel tight and responsive, and the whole unit feels like a premium device. What really brings it home is that Steam OS removes the hassle of Windows and lets this device shine the way it was meant to. With a bigger, smoother display, stronger hardware, better game performance, and full Steam integration, the Legion Go S Steam OS edition is absolutely better than the Steam Deck. If you want a handheld that feels next-level while still having the simplicity and stability of Steam OS, this is the one to get.
